The second optometry store insisted that I could not wear rimless glasses because my prescription calls for bulky lenses.

Ok so let me start by saying I just turned 28 & this was my first eye exam since ... I don't even…read moreknow when, probably elementary school when they give you those free ones! (I know, I know, smh) BUT I never had any issues before so it never crossed my mind. WELL, I guess it all goes down hill after 27 because I started getting really bad headaches like every other day and I could start to feel my eyes straining while trying to watch tv or driving ... & then it just got worse from there. Soooo fast forward a couple months (probably shouldn't have waited as long as I did) I take the plunge and finally get an eye exam and was prescribed some glasses. Quite expensive since I don't have any vision insurance. (I did get Ralph Lauren frames though) but they were SO cute and I figured since they were my first pair it would be worth it. I was totally right. LOVE my glasses and I honestly can't imagine not wearing them now that I can see so clearly. I probably will go back to get contacts eventually. LensCrafters was awesome. I saw Dr. Cunningham and he was super helpful and knowledgeable. He made me feel very at ease and I had the greatest experience! Prices - $100 for eye exam (no insurance) Frames - $140 (for my bougie ass Ralph Lauren frames) & those were cheaper than most surprisingly. Prescription - about $200 w/ tax & fees (bullshit) BUT WORTH IT.

Beware of Bait-and-Switch Sales Tactics at This Location…read more THE SALE: We specifically requested premium Crizal HR coatings and XTRActive Polarized Transitions lenses that would darken while driving. THE "WAIT 3 MONTHS" TRAP: When the lenses didn't darken in the car, staff told us to give them three months because they would get darker over time. We followed their advice, which pushed us past the 30-day window. THE REVEAL: Within two months, the lenses were also severely scratched. When we later reviewed the order with LensCrafters, we discovered we had received neither the Crizal HR coating nor the XTRActive Polarized Transitions lenses we specifically requested and were told we were getting. THE BLAME: Management then told us we were past the 30-day return window, wanted about $1,400 for replacement lenses, and said we should have caught the abbreviated product descriptions on the receipt. You shouldn't need an optometry degree to decode a receipt and make sure the salesperson ordered what was requested and promised. This is about trust, and LensCrafters completely lost ours.

The office staff, particularly Maddie, is very friendly and cares for the needs of the patients. What I don't care for (and this is not reflection of Dr. Keller) is the Clarkson Eyecare way of pushing their doctors to recommend procedures that may or may not be necessary. Again, this is not reflection of the care of Dr. Keller, I just don't like the Clarkson method of selling procedures to clients. I have changed eye doctors. Again this is not reflection of Dr. Keller. The doctor I am moving to comes highly recommended from a fellow pilot and the location is more convenient.

I ordered prescription glasses from Clarkson Eyecare and specifically asked multiple times whether…read morea larger frame would make the lenses thicker. I was repeatedly assured by staff that the larger frames would be suitable and that the lenses could be adjusted ("shaved down") so there would be no noticeable difference in thickness compared to my current, smaller-framed glasses. Based on this guidance, I followed their recommendation and also paid an additional fee for "premium" thinner lenses. However, when I received the glasses, the lenses were significantly thicker and heavier than expected due to the larger frame. This resulted in considerable discomfort and dizziness, making them difficult to wear. After noticing the issue, I called the store the same day and was told that this would not be an issue and that I could return to have the glasses replaced or restyled. Based on this assurance, I returned to the store. I went through the process again, including additional measurements and selecting a smaller frame. However, only at the conclusion of the visit--after I had already returned the original glasses, the store manager informed me that I would need to pay an additional $147--essentially charging us for a second set of lenses--because the original lenses could not be reused. This was never disclosed or authorized in advance. I explained the entire situation to the store manager, emphasizing that I had relied on the staff's recommendations regarding the larger frames and had been led to believe that a replacement would be provided at no additional cost. Unfortunately, my concerns were dismissed. Rather than addressing the issue directly, she stated that the earlier communication may have involved new staff and that the original lenses could not be reused, and therefore an additional charge would apply. However, this situation arose as a direct result of the staff's incorrect recommendation and misleading information, not due to any action on my part. I communicated this clearly, yet no effort was made to acknowledge responsibility or offer a reasonable resolution. Due to the urgency of needing functional glasses and the manager's refusal to resolve the matter, I felt compelled to pay the additional $147 at that time. This charge was incurred solely to correct an issue caused by the store's own guidance, rather than any preference or error on my part. Since then, I have contacted customer service twice and have been waiting for more than two weeks for a resolution. I understand that the store manager has characterized this situation as a matter of personal preference ("not liking the style"), which is inaccurate. This experience has been extremely disappointing and unfair. The misleading advice, the unexpected charge, and the manager's unprofessional behavior have caused significant inconvenience and loss of trust.

AVOID THIS LOCATION. The level of professionalism at this facility is far below what patients…read moreshould expect. We clearly stated that we were not getting contact lenses, yet they still enrolled us in a Sunbit loan for over $1,000 tied to a 12‑month contact lens prescription we never asked for. They also failed to enter our insurance information, which appears to be why our basic exam was billed at an unusually high amount and not covered. We confirmed this after speaking with both Billing and Insurance on the same call. It's concerning that they were able to add us to a loan without issue, but now claim they cannot remove us from it. We're now stuck dealing with the loan provider ourselves, all because the office processed a contact lens prescription we explicitly declined. And yes, this has already been escalated to an attorney who is on standby. Customer service has been disappointing on both the Sunbit and Clarkson sides trying to get this resolved. There needs to be real accountability for situations like this. UPDATE: After the Clarkson manager told us to call Sunbit to cancel the loan, Sunbit informed us that Clarkson must submit documentation in order for the cancellation to happen. So now Clarkson is holding the eight boxes of contacts they ordered, despite us clearly stating we did not want them and we are still stuck with a $1,000 loan we never agreed to. FOLLOW‑UP TO OWNER: We resolved this issue on our own over a month ago, and we're only now receiving a response in April. Neither the in‑store team nor the corporate office offered any assistance, and although we were told a district manager would contact us, that never happened. You don't need glasses to see that you're more focused on making a quick buck than actually addressing the issue. If you were genuinely committed to rebuilding trust, you would have reached out long before now, and the fact that we're heading into July makes that pretty obvious. Save yourself the headache and look elsewhere for eyecare. This place is all about sales, not service.

When I called Walmart Vision they said they were able to do that so I made an appointment for a Saturday afternoon at 1:30pm. The woman on the phone told me to arrive 15 minutes early to fill out all of the paperwork. I am overly prompt and was probably strolling in at 1:10. They take your temperature and wipe everything off before they let you in to sit down. I was handed a huge packet to fill out. You don't need the particulars but I wasn't called in for my appointment until 1:45. The wait was excruciating. Once I was in the exam was fine and the optometrist updated my prescription a bit. I then sat out with one of the techs and went over what I was getting and gave him my frames, etc. The glasses were ready 5 or 6 days later and I am happy with them. My only complaint here is that 1. I'm sure I paid more to have lenses put in my own frames but that is on me and 2. Why do they tell you to arrive so early?

I decided to try the Walmart at Chesterfield Commons in the hopes of a better selection. Not only was the selection better, but the service exceeded my expectations in every way. "Erlene" assisted me, and the first thing she did was look at the measurements on my current glasses. Then she informed me of what size bridge and lenses would work the best and explained why. She was mindful of my budget and didn't try to up sell me. After I picked out the frames we went over to the desk to review my lens options. I gave Erlene a copy of the recent prescription I got from Crown. She noticed the "add" corrections were not the same and commented that "usually they are." She decided to verify those figures with Crown and called them up and asked them to check. It turned out, they were incorrect and should have both been the same. She asked them to fax a corrected prescription to her, which they did. That told me I was right in returning the glasses to Crown because the correction was off. Erlene spent another 25 minutes explaining the different lenses and I settled on Poly Lens that had scratch resistance, glare reduction, high definition, and Blue Blocker. It felt like I was getting a car with all the options - yet, the total was less than my glasses from Crown, and that was with my insurance. Walmart doesn't take Essence, but their price without the insurance was less than Crown's price with it. I highly recommend the Chesterfield Commons Walmart Vision & Glasses department and Erlene. This experience was the complete opposite of my bad experience at Crown (see my review). I felt the optician was extremely knowledgeable, the selection abundant, and the costs reasonable. Even though it's not in my neighborhood I will return when I need my next pair of eye glasses.
