I've been training with Coach Chuck every week for about a year and a half now, and my only regret is not starting sooner. For context, I don't have a sports background, but I do have strength training and powerlifting experience. I wanted to find something that would build real cardio capacity while still challenging me technically. When I decided to learn boxing, I searched everywhere for a place that wasn't just another "boxing-inspired workout" class. I wanted real coaching, not a group cardio session. That is exactly what Classic Boxing Coach offers. I was quick to become obsessed with boxing. If you're reading this, I encourage you to make the call. Chuck will be honest about whether the class is right for you. This isn't the kind of gym where you can just walk in and spar with whoever's around. The training is technical, and safety is a priority. You can't improve if you're getting hurt. Sparring and drills vary between technical and looser sessions, and because the groups are small, you get a lot of focused attention from the coaches. Chuck is also highly knowledgeable about diet and overall fitness. I attribute a lot of my physique progress to his advice. I weighed 234 lbs the day I walked in, and I'm now around 202 lbs and in the best shape of my life (I'm 6 ft tall). I've also worked with Coach Andrew for a few sessions, and he is great as well. Very challenging and good for conditioning. I haven't yet worked with Coach Morgan but have only heard great things. Found this gym by accident looking for a boxing gym. Scheduled a trial session (which they offer at a nice discounted price) with Chuck, one of the coaches there, and ended up signing up for semi-private training. Chuck is very friendly polite and super professional. I've been learning how to box for a while and trained at various gyms in the US and in Europe and I have to say that I learned the most from Chuck. I teach for a living and knows what makes a good instructor and Chick is one. Why? Because he explains especially the fundamentals in a way that YOU understand it. That's real skill being a teacher: figuring out how the student understands things and offer a spontaneous and authentic explanation on the spot. Gym is clean, everyone is friendly. I travel a lot but will be back here for sure. Oh and if you're only in town for a short while...perfect place as you can purchase reasonably priced privates, semi privates off Thor website and don't have to commit to a membership (unless you want to). I've been training at Classic Boxing Coach for about six years and it's been a blast. If you want to learn the sweet science, the actual theory and practice -- Classic Boxing Coach is the gym to learn from the best. The coaching team, Coach Chuck and his Assistant Coach Morgan, are amazing teachers; you can tell they love what they do, they do it with expertise, attention to detail, infectious enthusiasm, and they really care about their athletes. The team is patient and explain and demonstrate the science so anyone can learn and everything is done safely. We have a new gym location near John Wayne Airport, a nice place with ample safe parking, even a shower, so a person can train during lunchtime, shower and be back at work in no time. Classic Boxing Coach is an inclusive gym, open to people of all backgrounds and conditions. I'm 65 years old with moderate lung problems, but Chuck and his team have respected my health issues. I can't speak highly enough about them. I was traveling for business from the East Coast and needed an opportunity to get some exercise and try something new! I had never tried boxing before and came across Classic Boxing Coach. I've been training with Chuck since October in the middle of the pandemic shutdown. Chuck is very professional and knowledgeable with a robust training curriculum that allows anyone from any background to come train and learn proper boxing skills. Chuck goes out of his way to be accommodating and is very good at communicating in a positive upbeat manner that is easy to grasp and he is always willing to try new ideas to get his concepts across better. One caveat is that this is not the type of aggro drill sergeant task master type place. There are other gyms that do that. I've been taking small group classes (no more than 4 people) with Chuck for almost a year now. I had no prior boxing experience and wanted to give it a shot. I wasn't looking for exercise per se, but more so the technical aspect. Chuck breaks down every movement and if I don't understand, he rephrases it and shows me in a manner I understand. This isn't to say that it isn't a great workout, as I go home after every session drenched in sweat. Chuck is extremely friendly and very passionate about the sport, which always rubs off onto everyone. Everyone in the gym is friendly and it has a close knit atmosphere. Yeah, this isn't the cheapest boxing gym around, but I think you get what you pay for. I think you can spend a year in another cheaper gym but won't be nearly as good if you spent a year with Chuck. Coach Chuck and Coach Morgan are professionals with a wealth of knowledge and they strive to provide quality instruction and training. Now in my forties, I came to CBC basically starting from scratch. My goal was to increase fitness and learn boxing skills. While going only once a week for the last 6 months, I've lost over 10 pounds, feel stronger and faster, and have learned so much. It's a "non-threatening" environment, again good for someone new, but you'll work hard & learn regardless of experience. On top of the workout, the teaching is methodical, fun, easy to remember, constantly progressive & challenging. I really enjoy my weekly small group classes. Depending on the day/time you'll be in with 3 others or even by yourself. I look forward to every class regardless of how many others are in there. Coaches Chuck and Morgan may cycle back and forth depending on class times/size, and they do an outstanding job, always are on the same page with a client's goals. I have trained mainly with Chuck but the sessions with Morgan have been great because both focus on the big picture the same way, just have unique spins on teaching; truly it adds versatility. Last, Coach Chuck recently re-emphasized fundamental stretching techniques (desk job+golf+working out!) to open up my hips, which in turn has tremendously helped with my constant lower back issues. I began going to Classic Boxing Coach two months ago, and I've been loving it ever since! I had no experience with boxing prior to joining and unsure of what to expect. The majority of the previous gyms I would be shown how to throw a jab, and then was told to work on that for 3 weeks etc. With Chuck he takes you through a very systematic program. I started going to Classic Boxing Coach about 5 months ago. When I first went the Classic Boxing Coach I had no idea what to expect but I knew what I wanted. I wanted something to loosen up after a stressful day at the office, get back into shape, and have fun. I got what I wanted and much, much more. First day in the gym was intimidating. When I walked in for the intro session, I thought, "what the heck have I gotten myself into?" However, after meeting the coach, all apprehension literally melted away. During the intro session the coach took the time to make sure I knew the boxing fundamentals and what the gym was generally about. Once the session was over, I was expecting to be pressured to join (like most gyms out there). Never happened. The coach thanked me for coming, showed me prices and recommended a regiment for me, which was not the most expensive option. Literally no pressure and no annoying follow up calls. Of course pressure was not needed because I was hooked. When I started the regular classes I was worried about how I would be incorporated in, I had no prior boxing experience and there are no beginner, intermediate, or advanced classes - just private or semi private classes. The semi private classes are small, no more than 4 people and everyone is at a different experience level. It didn't matter what experience I had. You will see, as I did, that the coach will move seamlessly between students and remembers where you left off with him in the prior class. You are always moving and the coach is always there to help. The individual attention that you receive is unparalleled. I know it's called semi-private but it fells like a private class every time! An unexpected bonus from the gym is the camaraderie that is built between the students. I now know almost all of the students that go to the gym on the same days as me. Everyone is friendly and helpful. Even when there is a new student you can tell that they feel at home, like I did on my first day. Expect to sweat, expect to burn, expect to feel better about yourself and expect to see changes. So glad I found this gem of a gym. Chuck is the best coach ever ! I wanted to get into boxing for a long time and as a beginner, Chuck's training prepares me both mentally and physically. He is precise, knowledgeable, motivating, enthusiastic, and just an excellent coach/person. The training sessions are fabulous because Chuck gives excellent instructions and guides you every step towards the goal. The work outs are intense but at the same time they are fulfilling. Chuck not only provides great knowledge to the sports of boxing, he also has great understanding about nutrition, weight-loss, and how the body works. When I told Chuck I wanted to lose weight, he asked me to write him a diary of what I eat. After going over my diary, Chuck wrote me a three-page long essay documenting all the things I can do to help enhance my health. That speaks a lot about Chuck because he doesn't see you as a client but see you as a friend and he wants you to succeed. I have lost 10 pounds since I started a month and half ago. I can't say enough great things about Chuck (the classic boxing coach). I had my first trial class yesterday ($35), and it was worth every penny. Like many of his students, I did not have any prior boxing experience, but that didn't matter at all. After a few minutes of stretching and a brief tour of the Training Center, we headed into the ring. Chuck then explained the fundamentals - proper punching techniques, footwork, and defensive stances. Aside from his technical mastery of the sport of boxing (which was very impressive), he's an excellent teacher. He broke down each of these techniques step-by-step, and made it very easy to understand. To top it off, he's a super nice guy. Then we wrapped it up by doing some mitt work to practice the techniques he had just taught me. Now, I thought I was in decent shape, but I was sweating like a pig after 10 minutes of it. With that said, if you're more interested in the fitness aspect (as opposed to self defense aspect) of boxing - worry not. Doing this stuff day in and day out will get you shredded in no time. *Side note: If you sign up for a class, Chuck has some loaner hand wraps and gloves you can borrow. However, I highly recommend coming in with your own. Your hands will stink to high heaven if you use the loaners. Hehe. I highly recommend Chuck and will be signing up with him for more lessons as soon as humanly and financially possible. If you're new to the sport or just want to give it a try, I recommend paying for a trial class. I trained with Coach Chuck for 3 weeks while traveling on business in Costa Mesa. Having boxed recreationally for years, I have trained with coaches in many different cities, including trainers of world champions and US Olympic team coaches. Chuck is the real thing: he has excellent technique, and a deep knowledge of the mechanics and strategies of boxing. He helped me with my footwork, and set a challenging pace that kept me striving and improving my technique. He is an excellent mitt holder, and a very nice, intelligent man. He was always respectful and never condescending, which I especially appreciate, since as a middle-aged woman, I sometimes encounter coaches with pre-conceptions about my abilities and potential. I believe I can keep growing as a boxer, and Chuck helped me to do that. I boxed at Classic Boxing Coach for about a year. Before trying it out, I brought no boxing experience to the table whatsoever. I started with the $35 trial session with Chuck about 2 months ago and he got me hooked from that 1 hour I was with him. I knew he really cared about training and knew I'd get my money's worth. After about 8 classes I have learned so much about the basics of boxing in this short period of time. Chuck has provided, and continues to provide me, knowledge and skills to be comfortable in the ring to spar and to be able to roll with the punches. Along with teaching me how to box, Chuck has assisted me with improving my overall fitness: he has showed me beneficial stretching methods to improve my flexibility, taught me shadow boxing and movement drills to improve my balance and advised me on techniques to improve my cardio. I have been training with Chuck at the Wardance Training Center. It is a great facility that has multiple types of bags to practice all the punches and a ring to practice drills and to spar. Wardance has a great atmosphere; everyone (all the coaches and patrons) supports and assists each other to better our health, fitness and lives. Love it here!! Chuck is the best instructor I've had. He always works one on one, and he is very intelligent with boxing. You will understand why boxing is the "sweet SCIENCE"...He is the real deal. I've been to a lot of gyms, and seen a lot of coaches. He knows a lot about the sport. And can break down technique very well.
