Visiting from NY, staying in Boston and planning to have lunch with a friend who lives in Bedford...I figured Medford was about equidistant. I searched for diners and found Classic Cafe. It has an interesting location in a residential area. The waitress Mimi was friendly and delightful. At 1:30 pm the restaurant was not crowded and my friend and I were able to chat without interruption and enjoy our lunch. I had an egg sandwich on a croissant. Delicious! When I asked for a substitution for the home fries, Mimi suggested fresh fruit. I expected a few pieces of orange or melon. Instead I was served a very large bowl with fresh blueberries, strawberries, bananas, apples, and peaches as well as melon and orange slices. Classic Cafe is much better than a typical diner! Looking forward to going back there when I next visit Boston. read more

The place is OK if your someone who doesn't pay attention to details and if just looking for a quick bite! .. but there has been a couple of incidents where I received unclean material including a greasy cup with a dead fruit fly inside. The food is pretty decent but the pancakes tasted as if they were already premade and then stuck it into a microwave.... This little gem is located a few blocks from my house, my wife and I have had breakfast there many times on a Sunday morning after 9:00 am mass @ nearby Immaculate Conception church. But just recently we rediscovered it during this pandemic we are all dealing with walking our dog around the neighborhood. So we decided to order lunch from here last week and today. I am the type of guy who likes to have decent sized meals so I won't be hungry and snack in between meals, well I tried the Lamb Shank which was excellent, it was huge with a delicious sauce and fresh veggies and perfectly cooked rice (a complete meal that filled me up)!, my wife got the Aegean Deluxe wrap which comes with chips which was a nicely packed wrap with artichokes, lettuce,tomato, leeks, mozzarella cheese & mayo (it was so big she only ate half and saved the rest!) Today I got the American Chop Suey which was a hearty portion of ground beef and elbow pasta with tomato sauce, wife got the Aegean wrap again and only finished half again! lol! While we waited for our lunch today we chatted with Mimi the lovely host whose son owns the restaurant I believe, she made us feel like we were old friends or family members and the restaurant's food and charm mirrors that down home cooked by family members vibe too! So please stop in, help this nice neighborhood restaurant out during these tough economic times and treat yourself to some great food served by friendly people and you too will get that nice feeling that you ate good home cooked food from a place that feels like home (with out having to cook yourself) !! It's alright. Went for breakfast. It's like a home cooked meal made by your mom....if your mom was an -ok- cook. Homefries were the best part, seasoned well and as greasy as necessary. French toast was that square king white bread you get at demoulas 2 for a dollar a loaf. Coffee..skip it or bring your own. Eggs were cooked properly. Sausage was linguica- so glad it was an option! It was all very reasonably priced. I do like that this is a family owned and operated place. They are very sweet. When I walked In i was instantly greeted with a smile and told i can sit anywhere. I chose a nice window seat. She quickly came over with my water and a menu. From the time I ordered to the time the fodd came out was about 10min. They dont any veggie sausage but the California eggs benny didnt newr it with all its flavors. Needed a little salt but very fresh! The potatoes had a perfect crisp on the outside and was flavored beautifully. The French toast may need a little more cinnamon but the was quite tasty. The most "family" place ever, with deliciously large portions. Free street parking (thanks, Medford). A great alternative if you have a car to avoid the crush of college students that ruin Renee's Cafe brunches for September through May. They always seem empty when we show up, so I really hope they don't close, because that would be sad. read more

This place is a total hidden gem! Stopped in for breakfast this morning and will definitely be back. Started off with a fruit salad bowl which was fresh cut and delicious. I got the hash & eggs and my boyfriend got the banana & nutella French toast. Both meals were cooked to perfection, they even added green peppers to my home fries upon request with no issue. There was no wait, which I was shocked by-- I feel like 9 out of 10 breakfast places are swamped on a Sunday morning but not the Cafe! The coffee is hot, the prices are cheap, and they even deliver! What a great new neighborhood gem! The food is OUTSTANDING. Everything is fresh and made to order. You can tell a lot of love goes into it! The arancini, chop suey and the Cajun chicken pasta are favorites so far. Breakfast is fast and fresh and they have a huge selection of different types of eggs Benedict. Their specials are fantastic and should really be added to the permanent menu - especially the online menu for ordering and delivery. Their website could use a little facelift, just to promote how great the place is. First impressions are everything for people that haven't been yet! I just really wish they would deliver via Foodler or GrubHub. I pay small delivery fees from other restaurants and would gladly pay one to be able to order from Classic Cafe instead. They need a little more modern decor on the inside but that's just aesthetics that may help bring new customers in the door. Love this place. I hope they do very well! We stopped for breakfast and it was very satisfying. I had the Belgian waffle with fresh bananas. Others had the full breakfast with eggs, ham, sausages, hash browns, toast... The hash browns were very tasty and had a nice crispiness. It's not a fancy breakfast but it delivered exactly what it promised and prepared very nicely...not greasy and reheated. I rarely post reviews because I feel that Yelp! has become a whole lot of complaining, and honestly, I hope that people check places out for themselves if they are truly interested. That being said, I want to mention that from what we have found, the family that runs this place is great. As a customer, I truly feel as though I am visiting a grandma's home for a meal. The food is better than the local diners that we have tried around here. If you are looking for gourmet breakfast, this is not really what they serve, but if you are looking for tasty and made-to-order breakfast fare, this is your place. They have been extremely welcoming to young families during the two times we have been there- even offering to wash our tot's dropped baby spoon. It's also the type of place where customers feel comfortable talking to one another, and it's a good place to hear what's going on in Medford. If you really need a reason to visit this place, consider this: yesterday, a customer was feeling faint, and would have collapsed had the owner/grandmother-in-chief not caught her. Their bacon is to die for and their eggs Benedict is out of this world. It's impossible to pick my favorite because they are all so delicious but I usually get the French toast with fresh fruit, the Irish eggs Benedict, or one of the breakfast specials (2222). Wonderful Mom-and-pop establishment with delicious home cooked entrees for breakfast and lunch. We feel very blessed to have Classic Cafe in our neighborhood. The service is top notch and food is always fresh. I definitely recommend ordering any of the Mediterranean dishes and we love their breakfast sandwiches in the morning. Brilliantly named - it is a classic. Tho located in Medford, it has a Southie vibe a la Good Will Hunting or The "Depahted". Been there two mornings in a row "so fah". Yesterday was veggie eggs benedicts (think a Florentine-Benedict mashup without the ham) plus awesome black coffee for me, and my daughter had some kind of syrup in her ice coffee that was delish ("best ever" and other Gen Z descriptives). Day 2 I had Texas Toast French toast with real maple syrup, bananas and blueberries plus that coffee. Other members in the "pahty" had nutella french toast, omelette, and a heroes sandwich with spinach and maybe an egg and a couple of dozen other ingredients. Both days we had fruit cups. Everything is megafresh. Warning: portions are gigantic. We're here for a wedding so we're having fun waking up, coming here, stuffing ourselves, then napping. In normal times I might share orders instead. Best part is Mimi, who appears to be literally the chief cook and bottle washer. A lean granny from Albania with a ton of warmth and personality. If you're in Medford or Somerville you should come here. We ate outside on Day 1 on a quiet suburban street, and inside on day 2 because the rain arrived just before our meal. Cute little spot hidden in a residential neighborhood. Got a BLT- it came with fries. Both were good. Selection of drinks was better than most places like this. I don't usually drink soda or very sweet drinks. They had some nice options like snapple and honest tea and V8. Friendly service too. The potatoes and basic breakfast was good but the French toast was thin and had no flavor, the pancakes were thick and dry, and did not taste homemade as they claim on the menu but like a cheap version of bisquick. Ordering a simple meatball sandwich/sub and what I received looked like dog food. Having to wait 15-20 minutes to put meatballs in a sub roll shouldn't take this long. This considering there were 2 tables of customers, with 2 people each, who both had their food. The sub literally looked like it was packed down with dog food. There wasn't a ball of any sort in the roll. Neither was there any type of sauce. I took one bite and it was softer and mush, more than baby food is. On top of this the guy working the restaurant (if you want to call it that), once he rung me up he stampeded around the counter brushing me back so he could watch something on the TV. We love the Classic Cafe! The food is consistently good and Mimi is a great hostess! She makes you feel right at home. My family and I go there at least three times a week for coffee and something to eat and we feel like it's an extension of our own loving room. Breakfast all day, which I'm a big fan of. Plus they have lunch and hot dishes that you can take home for dinner later (meatloaf, lamb shank, American chop suey, etc.) It's just what the neighborhood needs. This place is definitely a hidden jewel located just outside of Hayne Square Medford at the corner of Central Ave and Spring St. I love it . It's family owned and operated.. They're open 7am-7pm. Seven days a week. On street parking you don't have to pay for (like the square). The food is awesome...everything is fresh.and they try to accommodate any special requests. They serve breakfast all day ..waffles, french toast, omelets, etc...and....12 varieties of Eggs Benedict. They have soups, sandwiches, subs, wraps, and a wide variety of homecooked meals for lunch and/or supper ..perfect for the nights you just don't feel like cooking..eat in or get it to go....they do take out and delivery .
