I was gettin' hitched and needed my wedding dress altered. And I wasn't about to spend a boat-load on it either. Enter Eileen at Classic Cleaners. I went in 3 times. She was meticulous with each of the fittings. I thought the dress looked good before getting altered - but afterward it was like Eileen had worked her magic - good, clean magic. :) And it only set me back a negligible amount of dough (the exact amount I don't remember - this was 1.5 years ago. it was maybe 20 or 30 bucks). The trippy thing about this place is that you have to be prepared to get dressed in this eensy leetle "dressing room" (which is just a curtain pulled around you) in the front lobby of the store front - behind the door! While you're getting fitted, lots of peeps walking by & checking out what's going on. Not a biggie, but if you're modest, be forewarned. read more

i feel bad writing a poor review because i've been going to classic cleaners for years and the women who work there are absolute sweethearts. they're also reasonably priced, which i appreciate. however, i just can no longer stand how awful my clothes smell when i get them back. the chemical odor is overwhelming. i get a headache just wearing my "clean" clothes. it's disgusting and infuriating. i've also noticed a decline in quality lately. for starters, my clothes often return with numerous visible stains that were not removed. i know some dry cleaners ask you to identify stains on your clothes when you drop them off, but if a stain is easily visible (and the entire point of me bringing my clothes to the dry cleaner is to get them cleaned - duh), i expect it to be removed even if i don't specifically identify it. also, each time i pick up a set of clothes, several items have a little tag on them that indicates the garment has stains that cannot be removed. in some instances, these stains weren't on the item when i dropped it off! and in other instances, different dry cleaners have been able to remove the stains. sadly, after many years, classic cleaners has lost my business. read more

CLEANING: Cheap and quick, just the way I love my dry cleaning. They do a decent job although I've never had to have anything complicated done. I warned them about white wine stains on a silk dress and they cleaned it out just fine. If you bring in an item for cleaning that also needs some easy mending (e.g., hole in a sweater), they'll fix it free of charge. ALTERATIONS: They did a great job hemming a couple of jeans and taking the waist in on one pair. What I do love about this place is that they'll be honest with you even if that means they lose business that way. Oh, they've reinforced buttons on most of my coats / jackets and so far (a few months later) I haven't had any loose buttons. No complaints =) read more

Love my girls at Classic Cleaners. I can bring the biggest bag of clothes here and still never pay more than 50 bucks. Love this place. However..if there is something big with a stain..I need to take it somewhere else. This is a kind of quick ..cheap place that doesn't really get stains out well. So take nice big coats and stains somewhere else. read more

Cleaning services at Classic Cleaners, I do not know about. Alterations, I do. Do not bother bringing any alterations beyond pants-hemming to Classic Cleaners. You will be faced with Elaine, who does not listen and screams instead, and who took my lovely Nicole Miller gown, which fit me like a glove and needed only minor strap readjustment, and magically made it too small in the torso. These cleaners are just about the bottom of the barrel when it comes to laundry and dry cleaning. I used to live near them and so I found it very convenient to drop off my laundry or dry cleaning but soon stopped after i continued receiving my laundry in an unsuitable condition. If you want SUPER wrinkled clothing every time, these are your girls! When I confronted them on it they would just play dumb or play up a very convenient language barrier that is never present otherwise. When it comes to dry cleaning, it gets worse. They would very often ignore stains on shirts even when I would personally stand at their counter and put red tape on each stain, then when the shirts came back, they would tell me that there must not have been tape on that stain. I probably don't need to tell you how frustrating it is to have someone tell you that you must not have done what you say you have because by default that would just be "impossible". Very often they would take 3 tries to get a stain out, that did in fact eventually come out. Last week an old friend of mine moved back to the city, and remembering that I used to go there, took her cashmere sweater in to be cleaned and they demolished it, and took no responsibility. She left in tears, and when I came in to talk to them, they claimed to not know anything about it. This is a VERY bad business. Beware!!! read more

the problem with being a munchkin is that i have to get everything shortened. i needed a maxi sundress altered days before i was flying out to hawaii. i called around even in daly city, b/c i thought it might be cheaper but low and behold the cheapest place was a 1/2 block away from me. Everyone else quoted me $25+ and this lady only wanted $10. She did a great job and it was done in 3 days. I think i'll take all my alterations here! read more

I only take a few shirts in every couple of weeks or so, but these ladies always remember my name, and even ask after my parents who've taken one or two items there during visits. They're super nice and work incredibly hard. As if their hours weren't already long enough, I've picked up things 15 or 20 minutes past "closing" several times on my way home from work. I've tried to move places to be closer to home but I always come back. We've been using Classic Cleaners for our weekly laundry needs, both wash and fold and dry cleaning for the last 4 years. We even moved to a different neighborhood 2 years ago and we still opt to drive our laundry past 4 other laundry service businesses to get to them. In my mind, they offer the best customer service of any San Francisco business that I use for the following reasons: 1. They learn your name quickly (I love "regular" status). 2. They turnaround your laundry quickly (same day wash and fold!) 3. They can find your clothes without your claim slip. I went here when I first moved to the neighborhood and came back to find they had ruined a silk blouse and didn't offer any sort of refund or reparation for the damage.
