If you are looking to save a very pretty penny (i.e. bridesmaid dress alteration or denim alterations) this is your go-to stop. They are not my primary dry cleaner as I have one a bit closer to my place however their prices are the best in the neighborhood, by far, for alterations. And the owners are very sweet and professional. I just took a bridesmaid dress to be altered today and compared prices with my other favorite launder/dry clean spot that I checked in with first (proximity). Lombard Cleaners was $20 lower --- which in my opinion, is a pretty penny. I am paying $30 versus $50+. I have never had any problems here --- jeans and dresses come back clean and altered just the way mama asked. Yes, the dressing room is not really a dressing room and get ready for passersby on Lombard to see your ass, but when I'm getting cheap alterations, the last thing I care about is who's looking at my ass. It's a love-hate relationship between me and the whole designer jean movement. Like you know how that pair of $30-40 jeans used to be just fine? Or do you even remember regular ol' Levi's (not the special studio kind)? Now we all wear these Jeans with fancy back pockets - 7s, Rs, squiggles, or horseshoes. But hey, despite the ridiculous price tags, I can't say I'm not happy. I don't think a whole generation's average butt has ever looked so good. I really thank one of the original masters, Diesel for teaching me appreciation for the human backside. But the bad thing about the designer jean movement is that my legs have never felt shorter. I mean, since when would I look proportional with 5 ft long legs? Ok, so maybe just maybe, I'm not that tall, but I wouldn't say I'm short either. Anyway ... I digressed ... Well, thank goodness for places like Lombard Cleaners who can do the original hem alteration on that perfect pair of jeans. It's only $8 too! And you don't notice the seam at all. Quality work. I have been going to Lombard Cleaners for well over 15 years and have never had any kind of problem whatever. I work at the airport and drive in from Marin county, so it is a bit of a jog out of my way but well worth it. As to the comment that one's cashmere sweater is worth more than what this hard-working family makes I can only hope that in your next life you are born into a low socio-economic status so you can appreciate what it is to have any kind of clothes. I find them honest, and affordable they do good work and have never damaged an item or put one of those wimpy "we couldn't get the stain out" tags on my clothes. read more

They also have a short turnaround time of either a day or two! 2nd time this company has lost one of my shirts- this time a brand new shirt I hadn't even worn yet. They wrote down 8 on my claim ticket yet only handed me 7 shirts, yet somehow how they say it's the customers fault. Terrible customer service. Never going back here again. I learned a very valuable lesson today. Don't take things you care about to a laundry place that is rated 3.5 stars. Or rather, I should have read the reviews before doing so considering so many other cleaners close by have much better ratings. It's good to know that despite my old age I am always learning. If the owners are reading this I hope they take the following in consideration: 1) When a customer approaches you to ask if it is possible for them to check if a pair of stray jeans are some how unclaimed, do not automatically dismiss them. It is true that you have a process. It is possible that the process is flawed (see 3.5 star rating). 2) Accountability is an important attribute (even if you don't believe you're wrong). As I stood there another customer walked in to return a shirt that was mistakenly given to her. The owner's response when I made the obvious call-out was it was not her fault. To the customer, pushing the accountability down the chain does not build trust. 3) Make an effort to always act professionally. When the owner realized that simply telling me it was not her fault (and responsibility) that my jeans went missing would not satisfy me, she handed me a piece of paper to collect my information. I asked her if I could also have a pen. She pointed to where the pens were and told me I was an "adult" and could get them myself. To potential and current customers: If you happen to find a pair of light blue RRL jeans in waist size 30 in your laundry, please let me know. I try not to care too much about material things, but those jeans made my butt look really cute. And that is what I care more about. read more

I had a very intricate bridesmaid dress that needed significant alterations (went from a Size 8 to a Size 2). I was certain that there was no possible way to fix the amount of changes needed for this dress. However, Lombard Cleaners did a phenomenal job! The dress came out looking PERFECT. Given how much had to be changed on the dress, I was expecting to pay a significant fee for the work. I was completely wrong again. The price was beyond reasonable! Super fast alterations - have had 4-5 pairs of pants hemmed here. Did a great job with original hem on jeans. Extremely friendly proprietor, tons of attention to detail. Made me try on two similar pairs of jeans to be measured separately because she noticed that they were a different cut and therefore she couldn't just use the same measurement on the 2nd pair. My only beef is that (like most other cleaners in SF) they don't have a computer system and they don't take credit cards... luckily, the alterations are very inexpensive. read more

Excellent. I took two pairs of jeans in after reading the other reviews and they were right, great hemming plus super cheap, 18$ for two hems. I'm not naming names, but I've had jeans hemmed elsewhere and when they did the original hem, there was all this excess stitching and crap on the inside but here when they say original they mean original. My jeans look like they just came off the rack. You wouldn't know they were even hemmed. Good stuff. My only complaint about this place is the crazy fitting room they have, or really it's more like the little space in front of the shop where they pull some very thin curtains to semi cover you from the front window. Wander by the shop when someone is changing or getting fitted and you might just get a show. read more

I have been using this dry cleaners for 10+ years, once a week. They do our business clothes, special linens, and alterations and they are the friendliest, hardest working, aim to please style service I have ever experienced. It is a couple and they raised their children and sent them to college by running this cleaning business 6 days a week for 20+ years. Their prices are the best in town and they round down if you are a regular customer. I have had many alterations over the years from prom dress to jeans shortened and they come out perfect every time. I got quotes for the prom dress from 4 other cleaners to have it hemmed and none were under $150 except for them. She did it for $75 ~ that was how I met her 10 years ago. The shop is old and looks dusty in the window, the counter area is small and crowed, but the dry cleaning work they do it top notch! I will never go anywhere else. This is the kind of local small business I am grateful to have in our city and we love to support. read more

Lombard Cleaners were my dry cleaners and tailors for 10+ years. They did a VERY good job and are reasonably priced. They can dry-clean items the same day, when asked. The woman who's there most of the time (whom I assume is one of the owners) is very kind and personable. I have now moved away so I don't mind if 'the secret' gets out. :-) Lombard Cleaners is a great choice if you live nearby. I have used 2 other dry cleaners nearby and they were both fine, but Lombard Cleaners became my go-to Cleaners for years due to their combined good quality cleaning, good tailoring (when needed) and very reasonable price-point by San Francisco standards. They also clean your clothes onsite, which I liked. They also do wash-and-fold for large or small volumes of laundry, which was convenient when I had houseguests. read more

This place is right down the street from where I live so I take all my clothes here, except of course for hand washables. They do a decent job and have laundry ready quickly. The people who work here and run this place are always very pleasant to talk to. My only complaint is that my white clothes don't always come back that clean, so I'm not sure if they use bleach in their white loads. Based on other reviews, I will have to try this place for hemming my jeans/pants when I buy new ones, which are always too long. read more

i'm giving them four stars for alterations ONLY! they are great at the jean hemming (original hem for under $10 where other places would charge $20-25). i've had pants tailored here too and they've done a great job - like if i want my slacks more fitted (i always have issues with the big gap in the back of my pants and the butt part being too loose - like i said i have a little bum ok?!). really great quality work for a great price. 2 stars for the dry cleaning because i never feel it actually returns clean. i would never take my expensive clothes there (i go to union french cleaners instead), only my cheapie sweaters and stuff. once i gave them a blouse with a detachable gold neckpiece, and i don't even think they removed the neckpiece for cleaning because it came back completelly bent and and ruined the whole top. :-( read more

Pretty terrible experience here. Three major issues: 1) They wrote on all of my clothes in permanent pen on the inside so they could identify these as my shirts. My girlfriend kindly dropped my shirts off for me so now they all have her name on the inside. Not only is that super annoying but if we break up I have to buy all new shirts 2) The owner didn't realize that writing in black pen (not even lightly, he really wrote it in there) on lighter colored shirts isn't smart. He also did acknowledge this as a concern. I was pretty frustrated but his lack of English speak abilities prohibited him from either understanding or caring. 3) My clothes weren't even clean coming out of all of this. It seems like they just press shirts with starch so they appear clean. I've never been back so this is all based on one experience a few months ago. Wouldn't recommend to anyone. read more

This place is the most ridiculously unprofessional establishment. I dropped off my sweater to be hemmed and came back to pick it up and, I kid you not, the woman couldn't find the sweater anywhere! And it didn't help that she looked around for only about 60 seconds! She told me I must have dropped it off at a different dry cleaners. Absolutely ridiculous. Moving away from the Marina after 12 months meant I had to find a new dry cleaner. It was after I used two new location of Pacific Heights I realised how good Lombard Cleaners are! I used to get my dry cleaning dripped off on a Friday morning and grab it Monday morning. It was always there, always clean and well pressed, nothing was ever lost and it was super cheap. Service was always with a smile. I enjoyed the cash only element. I fully recommend this dry cleaners after not being able to find anything as good since I left. read more
