This place constantly closes early. Not by 2 or 3 mins, but by 10 to 15 mins. This is not a one off. It's a consistent theme with them. I've been a customer for more than 10 years. Originally as part of Buchanan Cleaners and continuing on after the two merged. No more. I live in Lakeside and it takes me 30 plus mins one way to reach this place. No more. First time coming here and a great experience- they were able to offer a quick turnaround/express dry cleaning on a number of items. My husband accidentally created these ridges in his suit (which was VERY noticeable and we thought unsalvageable to the point where we'd just have to toss it) when steaming it and I asked if they were able to do anything about it and they said let us try! Locust Cleaners is open M-F from 8:30-5:00 and on Saturday from 9-4:00. If you try calling before their business hours you will not get through. I called ahead to see if a dress I brought in on a Wednesday morning could be ready by Friday afternoon. The answer was yes, and I also asked for a quote and was told a regular dress without stains would cost anywhere from $15-$25. I've never dry cleaned anything before (typically I don't buy any clothes that are dry clean only). So I'm not sure if this is a reasonable price or not. When I picked up my dress on Friday, there was a lady there to pick up her ID and credit cards (that were left in her dry cleaning) and she was super happy to recover them. I paid $22 and I was out the door in 5 minutes. Locust is right by my job and I would return again in the future. read more

Have been a customer for 7 years. They ruined an incredibly expensive designer double faced silk crepe de chine blouse; they explained it was their fault - dry cleaning different clothes too 'close together and another persons blouse bled dye all over your shirt' .. clearly not very professional.. only offered to pay a tiny portion of the cost of the blouse in dry cleaning credit. Plus, they were nasty when I pointed out the blouse was 10x about the cost and they could find it online. Tried to forgive and move past that. Brought a brand new pair of pants to be dry cleaned; they lost a metal piece off the pants which looks ridiculous without it. I brought them back a week later as soon as I took them out to pack; they told me they could not find the metal piece on the floor. They kept telling me to come back to talk to owner. I went by 4 times. Then, she called and yelled at me, was very nasty, refused to fix pants with a same piece, as well as woman at counter. Buh bye. Go to Mulberrys or New Parisian Cleaners.. you will find great service from friendly folks! read more

STAY AWAY! Especially if you have fur/faux fur items. THEY WILL BURN THEM TO A CRISP! That's what happened to my custom made faux fur coat. IT IS COMPLETELY RUINED! And did I get my money back? Nope! I literally cannot replace this once beautiful coat now ruined because they burnt the fur so that it's in tangles and feels like sandpaper. As I said, completely BURNT! Sorry, but first one-star review. Typically happy to give the benefit of the doubt, but there was not much to go off from start to finish. The owner was a little short with me dropping off the clothes; that's fine, maybe a bad day. Understandable. I got a phone call, again being short mannered, with her refusing to wash the shirts I dropped off because the adhesive collar stays which have never been a problem anywhere. When asked if I had any other options, I was met with a stark "No u take them" I figured I would just address it when I picked them up. When I didn't pick up my clothes on the expected date, I got a message telling me essentially you NEED to pick up your clothes. I don't know if it was a language barrier, but don't most cleaners just hold them for another day if you get held up? Finally picking up the clothes, I was hoping she could elaborate on why she couldn't do the shirts, and she just said "the collars stick together", which we've established, but didn't mind paying more to have it done. At this point I'm kinda losing my patience and say that I haven't had this problem before, and just ends up clapping back with "OK u take it away then" Pricing was decent, and quality was OK... However, I am now missing the main button to my pants that I wore just the day before brining them their. But for someone's demeanor to be so consistently stark and quite surprising and just icing on the cake here =( read more

I have been using Locust Cleaners/Buchanan cleaners for nearly a decade but after today I am finished using them. I totally get accidents happen so I politely called when I found a hole, pull and dangling thread on my newly dry cleaned sweater. I was told to bring it in. No apology was made and I was told they would repair. When I picked it up today you could still still the hole and pull in the sweater. When I mentioned my concern the owner came out gas lit me, berated me, and blamed me for the damage. He said I should be thankful their seamstress did such a great job trying to repair my mistake. I folded up my favorite sweater and left - saddened by how I was treated after so many years of loyalty and with my favorite sweater ruined. These guys are great until they aren't. read more

How do you not love this place! the owner is so sweet. I got very sick before my wedding and lost a lot of weight. I didnt even realize it until i tried on my dress a few days before the wedding and it was practically falling off me! I couldnt find anyone to take in my wedding dress on time and was so stressed out .... until I found Locust Cleaners! The owner here was so willing to help me. She not only took in the dress but did it in a way that was SO much extra work for her but would keep all the pearls on the dress and the design in tact. I appreciated that so much! I have moved out of the city but still take all my dry cleaning back here. She really saved my wedding and went out of her way to help me. I needed to get a suit pressed in a pinch. It was Saturday morning, and I needed to get the suit back by Monday afternoon. My regular cleaners couldn't get it back in time so I was forced to find somewhere else to go that wouldn't destroy the suit that i had literally just purchased. I looked up cleaners in my neighborhood, and low and behold I stumbled upon Locust Cleaners on yelp. I gave them a call - - they said that pressing it by Monday afternoon would be no problem at all. I picked it up that Monday afternoon. It looked great, and here's the best part - - it was only $10. I know my fancy shmancy cleaners would have probably charged double that. I am looking forward to venturing back to try them out with some of my regular dry cleaning and laundering to see how they compare! read more

I've been bringing my household's dry cleaning here for 6 years, after a $110 experience at Peninou down the street - my bad for not knowing "French" meant "crazy expensive." Anyway, I've always been 100% satisfied. That's a lot of years and a lot of dry cleaning to never have had a problem. They are incredibly responsible, always being extra careful about delicate and/or embroidered items I've taken in (without my prompting). The best-kept secret here are the alterations. The lady upstairs is great, and I've learned from some others that their changing rooms are actually an added bonus (how on earth would you have something altered without trying it on?!). I've had all sorts of things taken in, let out, or otherwise modified - and always been very satisfied. Overall - great, friendly, neighborhood-style service. Love the ladies here -- they are friendly and efficient. The cost for wash and fold (which is what I mostly use them for) is competitive for San Francisco, especially the Presidio Heights neighborhood. The hours are also quite long so it's easy to find a time that works for my schedule. read more

Not only did Locust get top ratings from Yelp, but it was also recommended by my tailor, so I thought it would be a trustworthy place to take my wedding dress to be cleaned both before and after my wedding. I had to take the dress to Locust about 2 weeks before my wedding. There weren't any marks on the dress beforehand, but strangely, when I came to pick it up, there was a gray smudge about the size of a quarter on the front of the dress. In disbelief, I asked them to remove it, which they did quickly right then. They charged me $46, which is noteworthy because of what happened next... After the wedding, I dropped the dress off for a deep clean. I didn't have any stains on the dress after the wedding, except for maybe a few gray scuff marks at the bottom. I opted to not have my dress folded up, boxed and vacuum sealed. I came back about a month later and they wanted to charge me $175 for the second cleaning. It didn't make any sense to me why I would be charged $46 six weeks earlier for the same cleaning service. After speaking with nearly every employee in the store, they finally let me pay $100 and be on my way, which was still double the price of the original charge. They said the first time I got the dress cleaned someone mischarged me by accident. And I certainly paid the price the second time around when they made up for it. read more

I travel a LOT for my work, and when I am in CA this is my go to place for cleaning! They always try and accomodate my schedule and do a wonderful job on everything I give them! My husband took his very expensive suit here to be dry cleaned last minute because it's near our apartment and we had a wedding to go to, despite the fact that other Yelpers said it was overpriced. He was happy to find out that a jacket, pants and shirt came to just $21. Why would you pay $5 less to have a nice suit improperly cleaned elsewhere when these people do a darn good job for what we found to be a perfectly reasonable price? Jeannie at locust cleaners has done my alterations for every single wedding bridesmaid dress I've ever been in and she does all my other alterations as well. She's literally the only one that I will trust with my important alterations so I drive from Santa Clara to SF just to see her. She also does a my hubby's dress shirts and altered his brand new Burberry suit. I wouldn't trust it with anyone else. She did an amazing job. It looks like it was made specifically to fit him. I've never had an issue with their services (alterations not dry cleaning) and I've been coming here literally for 10 years! If you have an issue, ask to speak to Jeannie. One pair PRPS denims, one pair Levi's. Both rigid / raw. Specific requests - dry cleaned, no crease please...... .......One week later, two shrunken pairs of jeans. When I asked the trying-not-to-laugh assistant, she told me to come back and speak to manager. Went back, and spoke to the owner, Jeannie Low. First thing, instead of listening, was to take one of the pairs of jeans out the back somewhere for a few minutes, and return with a tape measure, asking me what size I am. Then told me I had to try both pairs on so she could see....Which I did - An exercise in futility. Super tight around the waist , compressed nuts, jean legs shrunk. What followed was a five minutes in my face finger jabbing lecture on wet washing. They basically washed & dried, deciding they know what's best when it comes to denim.......Not once was the whole point of me being there addressed - My $400.00 dollars worth of shrunken denim. Google Locust, and their details come up, along with 'Solvent: Perchloroethylene'.....Which means dry cleaning. Perchloroethylene is being fazed out slowly in California, and I told the owner I knew what it was she was explaining. I chose Locust because they listed Perchloroethylene....Wet washing shrinks some types of clothes / garments. I used to use the dry cleaners next to the UPS store on Fillmore and Jackson - Perfect results everytime (They wetwash, but with perfect results)...Having moved up to the Presidio area, I looked up local dry cleaners, etc. The moral of my extended one star valuation? None, really - Just be aware that there a few unhappy customer reviews, and for me, it's either small claims court, or lose a size or two - which would then mean having to have all my other pants taken in; and certainly not by Locust. Cheap service masquerading as high-end cleaners...Location doesn't equate to quality. ps. My girlfriend's Dolce & Gabbana suit came back with buttons missing. They did offer to replace all the Dolce & Gabbana buttons with Locust buttons, so I guess that was something. read more

Locust cleaners does a good job, but they are SO overpriced. The only reason I was a customer there was because it was 2 blocks from my old apartment. The average price for a shirt is $7-$8 and for a dress or a pair of pants it's close to (or maybe even more than) $10. I once had them hand wash a simple cotton shirt and it was almost $15! Plus their hours are super inconvenient for anyone but the stay-at-home Laurel Heights soccer moms (who, I might add always seemed to be in front of me in line, dressed in their Lululemon yoga pants and snapping at the poor girls working there about their missing items). ok this review is overdue from about 4 weeks ago, I have bene athere a couple of times over the years when I lived in the city 1999-2005, I found a great Hugo Boss black mens suit perfect fit for $200 bucks at every thing cept for the length..I'm a 32 and the pants were 30 and with cuffs..I needed a suit by next day for two week long event that would make me a lot of money..and it was either this or a Target suit..yuck..so I go to Angela the seamtress/tailor there at Locust present my dilemma and relying on her professional opinion if she can drop the cuff down to desired length and there won't leave a crease and look retarded..if I bought the suit I owned it cause of no return policy at local consignment store.. She is always so so so nice and inexpensive too, she reassured me that 95% would go away if not whole crease..finally I decided to go with it, she would make changes necessary by next day because she is that nice and accommodating as a human being, I thanked and said I would be by to pick up 6 pm when they close on Saturday..I was coming down from Marin and it took an hour to get from Sausalito to the city, traffic was abnormally crazy..she waited and was so nice about it I got there at 620 and she was still so nice about everything.. I look rediculously good because of this suit and get compliments all the time about it/me..(all i need now is a very ncie caring, fun, positive attractive woman to fall in love with to be by my side while in the magical suit..LOL) Why she gets the max... 1. Workmanship- 5 stars 2. Customer Service- 5 stars 3. Accommodating special circumstances-5 stars 4. being a great person- 10 stars.. 5. My aunt has been going to them for years with nary a complaint. I moved to San Francisco last year and go to Locust Cleaners exclusively for all of my dry cleaning and alterations. I wouldn't say their prices cheap, but neither is the quality of their service. They are reasonably priced, especially since they are consistently kind to their customers and I can always count on picking up my dry cleaning 3 days after I drop it off. Also, they do really well with "light starch" - some places say it and your shirts are either too stiff or don't last through one-wear. Five stars for Locust Cleaners! read more

........Sigh. I just returned from picking up three Loro Piana pieces that I entrusted to Locust Cleaners last week; one cashmere watch cap, one windbreaker and one reversible cashmere vest. A little background: a few months ago, another cleaner had totally stained the lining of the windbreaker, and LP graciously shipped it to NYC for stain-removal. The jacket came back looking stunning; they had removed all the oily stains and the jacket was perfect. Let's face it, San Francisco weather requires outerwear of some kind virtually all year, so the windbreaker was due for another cleaning. The lady at Locust mentioned that there could be minor discoloration of the suede on the collar of the vest, but what I just picked up left me crestfallen and borderline angry. The edges of the slash pockets, on the quilted side of the vest have a greasy, oily appearance; the suede looks dry and brittle, and even acknowledging that some discoloration could happen, I wonder; is the end result of cleaning suede always so ugly? Something bled into the surrounding quilting, and the dark staining is visible, even on dark blue! So, now I'm faced with the very real EXPENSIVE option of shipping garments to NYC for ROUTINE cleaning. Also: the vest's deep blue now looks lifeless; it's not supposed to appear dull. This was my first visit, but I don't see myself returning. read more
