He wanted to give it to his "neighbor" mechanics to fix it for cheaper labor but my brand new car deserves the dealership. Now I'm dealing with $4,200 in damages on a basically brand new car at the dealership. The shop did admit fault and agreed to pay, but I'm still waiting on the check he gave me to process in my bank, which has been frustratingly slow. What makes it worse is how avoidable this was. This isn't a complex custom job--it's a basic exhaust install that any competent shop should be able to handle without issues. Damaging a fuel tank is a serious mistake, not just a small slip-up. Just putting this out there so others are aware. If you're planning to get work done here, especially on a newer car, I'd be cautious and ask a lot of questions upfront. I had purchased the tips, called in about an hour in advance (as advised), and dropped by. Andy identified a slight mismatch between the diameters of the new tips and the pipe, but he resolved it efficiently by creating an adapter and completing the welding work thoroughly. I'd like to also add Andy is honest. While I was waiting, another customer came in with an issue with their car (which was raised by a major car service shop), and they wanted Andy to fix it. After an inspection, he confidently told the customer that a fix wasn't needed and not to throw the money. I would have appreciated more attention to detail, I was trying to fit an aftermarket diffuser and noticed that one side was higher than the other. I pulled up and he just eye balled it from far away and said it was fine. Before I could pull the trim out of the trunk he already said it's manufacturers fault. My car was in a previous accident before I bought it so I can tell you the left side is definitely not aligned. He also said it was a lot of work to even try but he had an empty bay. Trust the Reviews. Context matters. Took my 26 year old truck in for its smog check. Failed. My truck has a 2 catalytic converter system but the smog check tech (see what I did there) said that the rear catalytic converter was a "front" version and failed the car. I told them this is what the truck came with and it has passed smog tests for the past 12 years (been going to the same smog check station) Test showed all emission levels were well below states requirements, but the fact that it had a front version (catalytic converter) mounted as the second (rear) converter it failed the test. "says here in the states database of catalytic converters, this is the wrong type" Really? Mind you, this is how i bought the car and as stated previously, it had pass smog tests for the past 12 years that i've owned it. Nothing has changed on the car all this time but some how now it's the wrong converter? So, I paid the man for documenting that my car had a clean emissions test and will be given the opportunity to come back and pay some more money to get another clean emissions test when the "wrong" converter is replace with the right one. Talk to Andy The same day, I saw the reviews and immediately call Classic Muffler. I talked directly with Andy, told him my situation and he said come down at 3:00. I did. He took a look and said "no problem" he has the part in stock. Jacked the car up, sparks were a flyin'. Next thing I know, the jobs done. Things said in other reviews I would whole heartedly echo. The absolute sweetest man works here! I called one day for a quote, and the following week he not only remembered me calling, he remembered what he quoted me. He installed a Borla exhaust I bought myself and brought in and he had it installed SO fast! I had my local Subaru Garage tell me I needed a cat and an O2 sensor AND since the dealer no longer made a cat for my older car I needed to call a DMV referee and get a proper replacement approved (and that even after that they could not install it for me). I called Andy and he said bring it by and let him look at it. Not only was he able to help me, he had the replacement in stock. He replaced the cat in under an hour. He didn't have the O2 sensor in stock but also noted my check engine light was now off after the new cat was installed. He suggested giving it a smog test to see if it really needed an O2 sensor. (He noted it still might need one but about a 70% chance I didn't). I drove the car for 100 miles per the smog shops suggestion and it passed! His pricing is very fair and way lower (about 1/3) than the garage had quoted me had the OEM part been available. Stopped by Classic to see if he had time to install a muffler on my 1974 Porsche 914. There was one car ahead of me and I could see that the repair he was doing was above and beyond. My turn. I provided the muffler and the install was so much better than I got at Babes on the Alameda. He spent almost an hour making it perfect. I was looking into upgrading my OEM exhaust because it didn't have that sporty sound note that I was looking for. My local muffler shop who I've gone with in the past was asking for too much (x2) to have my aftermarket exhaust installed so I needed to look elsewhere. A few weeks prior to deciding to upgrade to an aftermarket exhaust, I was having the vehicle smog-checked. Luckily my smog test guy and friend for many years referred me to his friend Andy here at Classic Muffler Service Center. I gave Andy a call and he scheduled some time the following Saturday to have my aftermarket exhaust installed. I didn't have the convenience of driving a few miles away to my old shop, but the 20 minute drive down from my town to Andy's shop was well worth it. Andy charged me 1/2 of what my old muffler shop wanted and the results are outstanding. Not only was the new aftermarket exhaust installed perfectly but it was done in about 45 minutes. During the entire time, Andy and I bonded and had a great conversation while he was installing my new exhaust system. His shop is clean and well organized, but the entire business complex is filled with cars that are visiting other shops and/or ones that are in the queue to be worked on, so finding a parking spot can be a challenge. Now back to the install, another customer was there to fill-in the conversation and the entire experience was a blast! I mentioned to Andy that I had another person who was interested in buying my OEM exhaust and he was surprised that I didn't want to throw it away, so I asked him to cut the exhaust into 3 sections (some at the existing weld-points) and he did so per my request. Good thing I was able to resell that OEM exhaust the same day, and the guy I sold it to had Andy install it in his ride. So in return, I was able to bring Andy some more business. Not only was I super-happy with the installation, including the price I paid and also the friendly conversation I had with Andy and the other customer, I left with a big grin on my face once I got back onto the main road, hit the accelerator and finally let the exhaust rip. My car now has the sound I've been looking for thanks to Andy. Since Andy's shop is so popular, I might add that I did have to wait for about 1hr since another customer had already had an earlier time slot before mine. While I waited in my car, a few other customers came by for quick fixes and after Andy helped out one customer, he didn't take any payment, even after the customer insisted. Andy just said, "Next time, don't worry about it!". Andy is such a friendly guy, but he's also generous and understanding. He's more concerned about his customers and providing them solutions rather than just taking their money. I noticed that he does take-in everyone who visits his shop and that's probably the reason why he has so many great reviews. If you're waiting for your turn, have patience and don't feel like others cut in front of you, because Andy doesn't forget that you're next in line. I initially had that feeling while waiting for my turn, but I quickly realized that if Andy knows that if the customer needs a quick fix, he'll quickly help them out before sending them off on their merry way. No reason at all that I should knock-off a star for that. It's just the nature of his business. Ultimately everyone gets serviced, just need to be patient. It was for my 2024 Audi RS3's AWE track exhaust, install took two hours and he charged 300 for the install. Great value and even made adjustment cuts to my exhaust to make it fit properly. Andy replaced my catalytic converter without an appointment. He's literally a one person show and specializes in exhaust systems. He has all the parts necessary and can do them quickly. He's honest, fast and operates safely whilst others are not in the twilight of the pandemic. Andy can replace any part of the exhaust system of a car quickly, whereas a traditional mechanic would struggle or take longer. It's cheaper to see a specialist like Andy for exhaust. I've found you can make appointments and the lot the business is located in has several other car businesses. It can become quite difficult to find a parking spot. Most of the businesses only let their own customers park in the few spots in front of their garage and this causes much double and triple parking. It's easier to visit early in the morning at opening. The good news is unlike most repair shops, Andy will do the work while you wait...which won't be long.
