This is the first time I've ever got a slice of pizza and thought, there's no way I'm going to finish this, mama mia! Which was outstanding for someone who eats her pizza by the slice more often than ordering a whole pizza.... To leave full and satisfied and have a snack for later, I felt my $7 was reasonably spent. The only part of my experience at Classic Slice that could have been better was the wait. I waited 30 min for a single slice of pizza, not a time period I would be okay with every time I come in. There was a party occupying the mighty long table in the middle of the restaurant when I came in. Ethical or not, the part of me that's worked in a restaurant before sympathizes a bit with having such a large party at the already busiest time on a Saturday evening and will regard this experience as an exception for now. It's just hard to complain when the pizza was of the most delicious I've had in Milwaukee. I dined on Metallica (pepperoni, Italian sausage, bacon, meatballs), a meat lover's dream. The toppings were generous and well distributed on the slice. At first sight, it looked overwhelming, even dangerous after a few beers, but it tasted and digested splendidly. The not too thin, tasty thin crust and intriguing menu will make me come back soon. The atmosphere and service were also top notch. Funny to say, I came by myself and had a fun time. The large table in the middle allows you to sit with people you wouldn't otherwise talk to and can accommodate a huge party, while the smaller tables and strip of seats along the wall is nice for everyone else. I love Classic Slice. The slices are huge and thin crust. They have an abundance of toppings, everything from pine nuts to vegan sausage. My favorite combination is sun dried tomatoes, feta, giardinera and artichokes. You do pay a little more, but I think it's worth it for the variety. My only complaint is that they're only open until midnight and there are plenty of times I've been driving home or leaving Frank's after 12 craving some Classic Slice. read more

Word to the wise: after the girl at the counter says "Our slices are pretty big... are you sure you want two?", maybe reconsider your hunger. I didn't heed her warning and ended up eating way too much pizza (and not being able to finish my slices!). I opted for a plain cheese and then one with meatless sausage and a couple veggies. They accidentally brought me a "vegan" slice instead, which was a couple bites into before they realized and corrected the mistake. So, the vegan slice was okay, but know that it includes NO cheese. There's no Daiya or anything here. It was definitely not the best vegan pizza I have had, but it has a nice array of veggies on it. However, the slices I actually ordered were great. I have been going to Classic Slice since it first opened in Bay View. What a GREAT pizza place, the best! My favorite in Milwaukee for NY style thin crust. Don't forget to ask them to get the crust crispy. It's sensational. Besides the many places I have tried Pizza in milwaukee and there are a few good ones, (and a lot of bad ones), Last May i travelled to New York and ate pizza at a number of different places. Classic Slice is a great alternative to the average Milwaukee pizza. The slices are huuuuuge and the toppings are creative. I tried this place for lunch and took a friend along to get her opinion as well. I have eaten at several pizza places throughout the United States and even a half-dozen more in Naples, Italy. If you like New York-style pizza, this is the only place to purchase it in Milwaukee. The place was not sparkling clean, but it didn't look so dirty that we were afraid to eat there. We ordered four different slices and both sampled all four pieces. All four were delicious with chewy thin crust with just the right amount of char. All four were easily bendable. Don't expect this pizza to be as good as places in Manhattan and Brooklyn that have been doing it for close to 100 years, because many of those places have used the same sour dough slurry for many years, which gives them a distinct and unique flavor. However, this place is light years ahead of any other pizzeria in Milwaukee. It's a must stop if you want to eat NY pizza in the upper Midwest. Eat here. Seriously. I'm not kidding. A good friend of mine lives in Milwaukee and every time I go to visit, we eat at Classic Slice. Its cheap, the slices are HUGE, the atmosphere is calm, nothing fancy but nice. They have a nice selection of beer - including the famous Spotted Cow (all hail Spotted Cow). The pizza has a thin crust that sometimes almost borders on crunchy. The sauce is tasty, the cheese is fresh. YUM! My mouth is watering as I type. Classic Slice is a hipster-y joint where you can sit at a giant communal table and order massive slices of pizza. Serious kudos for selection and service. Lots of choices, soy cheese, no cheese, meat, no meat, veg, etc...build your own... all for $4.50 a slice. The slice is very big. The space is pretty retro with a couple of arcade machines. Four stars because beyong my personal knit-picking, the ingredients are fresh, interesting, accomodating, and fun. The side salad was good, and more like a sit down waiter restaurant. Yum. What I didn't love was how long it took from ordering to getting food and the plates/utensils. The pieces are so big there is no way to pick it up and not look like a slob. But the crust proved a challenge too great for the old cheapo knives on pizza pans as plates that has a curvature so cutting is impossible. I ended up having to rip my piece. The time from order to order up seemed like an eternity. It was probably more like 15 minutes, but the stomach is slave to no clock but its own. I would go again, but I wouldn't go starving and I would ask them to slice up my piece with their industrial slicer. read more

Pizza slices the size of your head...well actually bigger! Moving close by this was my place until we got food in the fridge and got settled in. Each day features a different specialty pizza slice that are always amazing. All of the pizzas can be made vegan too! The place is a really unique space with longer tables and various games to play while you're eating or waiting for your pizza. I've only got slices both to eat in and to take out so I can't comment on their whole pizzas yet one slice will be good. They also have one of the best specialty soda dispenser I've seen with all kinds of flavors. They also have a few beers to choose from. The outdoor seating is nice on the side of the building during the summer. Plan accordingly - the slices are huge and they do take a while to get it to you...This is the only drawback that I can see since I typically wait around 15 minutes for a slice yet have waited up to 30 minutes, which is crazy, yet just know that going in. The wait of 10-15 minutes is well worth it since that one slice will satisfy any craving you have of pizza. Each slice runs around $5-$8 depending on what you get. The classic slice has really good quality ingredients and slices are really huge. This is NOT new york style pizza- thank goodness! This is classic MKE crust- thin and crispy. We wouldn't want it any other way. I really like the sauce, and always order my pies with extra cheese. The decor is very mke, slightly worn, mismatched, skatepunk, videogames and tattoos. This is not for everyone. There are a ton of other pizza places around that make floppy ny pizza, or corporate pies. But if you want local and fresh pizza with a local soda in a great Milwaukee neighborhood, this is it. They offer a lot of different specials and merch, they have vegetarian and vegan options, and also really great carnivorous options, like the meatallica pizza. I like the pizza at classic slice. The only thing is buying a whole pizza is very expensive, and if it were just a bit more reasonably priced, I'd go more often. I was confused by the addition of actual, dairy, Mozzarella when they go out of their way to use the Vegan Sausage...but hey, whateves. It was great! It was also great to see one of the cooks actually tossing the Pizza Dough up in the air. I was passing through Milwaukee looking for good vegetarian pizza place this place got great reviews Unfortunately I would not recommend this place to anybody I ordered two slices without them having the prices posted and it came up to almost 15 dollars for 2 slices. Okay I figured these are going to be huge and really delicious so I didn't complain about it or change my order Truthfully they are quite large slices but they're definitely not worth $7.50 each. Furthermore they really just didn't taste that good the crust was nothing special the sauce was kind of sweet with not really great spicing and then the toppings were really pretty bad tasting overall. If it hasn't already been stated 100 times before, this is far and away the best pizza in Milwaukee. I've never had a bad slice, a bad pie, a bad calzone, or a bad salad. Great topping options. I was always a big fan of chicken, broccoli, and pine nuts, for whatever that's worth. I still crave the cheese bread. Huge slices. Huge calzones. I think the atmosphere is perfect for this type of place. There was always a nice cross-section of patrons here, as well. Ever since Pizza Man was burnt down for insurance reasons, Classic Slice is my new favorite local pizza joint. I have a friend who is obsessed with this place. Occasionally we'll order when I'm at his house... I LOVE that they really, really, cater to vegetarians and vegans. Next to getting a stonefired/or wood fired pizza, this pizza is really top notch quality - great dough, great sauce, great topping choices. I decided to order a pizza for the first time last week. Got one that is supposed to have sausage, pesto, fresh basil and fresh mozzarella (can't remember the name of it). I substituted the meat sausage for the vegan sausage. I was pretty good but I'll probably pick a different substitute next time. Not a huge fan of fake meat products- sometimes it's fun. Only major disappointment was when I brought the large pizza back to the house in Wauwatosa, I opened it and realized that they had forgotten the blobs of pesto which are really necessary if you only get the fresh mozzarella, cause those are sparse. It was good, but was bummed out about the pesto. It's a pricier pizza place, but when done correctly, worth the $25 or so. I just hope the next time I order, and I tell them about the missing pesto, maybe they will be cool and give me an extra topping for free. The place is mostly run by hipsters, so it's a toss up on whether you'll get a "cool attitude" or a "too cool for school" one. I recently found out that I have a diary allergy, which led me to believe I would never have a truly great piece of pizza ever again. I am so glad to have been proven wrong. Idk how they make their house vegan cheese here, but I am in love. They don't try to mimic the melty cheese you normally see from companies like diaya, but I think that's partially why they've managed to make a successful alternative. It's legitimately delicious. My boyfriend, who isn't dairy free, enjoyed it as well! Since I'm not actually a vegan, I gladly partook in the delicious local sausage and pepperoni they have for pizzas here. I love that they use local vendors for everything, and the prices are great. The ambiance is very chill - not fancy, but it's all about the pizza! I love this place, I just wish they had a location in Chicago so I could have it more often. My friend and I headed on over to Classic Slice tonight. We got a bit lost at first cause we saw the fitness club and only realized after we drove by that it was behind the fitness club. But when we cleared that up, we entered a refreshing vibe. We absolutely loved the bulletin boards filled with music from hopeful milwaukee bands, different spiritual meditation classes, and so on. The restaurant itself is quite small, but has a great atmosphere, and we were so thankful for no smoking. I came in excited to try one of the vegan mini pies. I decided to go for the Super Veggie and share breadsticks. The bread sticks, which were a great deal, were flattened dough drizzled with olive oil, basil, and garlic, with a side of marinara. Holy shit, this was absolutely brilliant. I could have eaten this just as my meal. They were the best bread sticks I have ever had. So fresh and flavorful. The portion is HUGE, almost 10 inches wide of the sliced pieces. Then the Super Veggie came out, I decided to try one piece since I was already so full. It was so delicious. All the vegetables were so fresh and perfectly cooked. Not too soft and not too crunchy. The dough is absolutely fantastic as well. The mini pie has nothing mini about it, so I came home with 3/4s of it still left. We definitely will be coming back! read more

In pizza warfare, two sides are pitted eternally in disagreement: thin crust versus thick crust. I am firmly entrenched in former, viewing thick crust proponents as knuckle-dragging, mouth-breathing dunderheads. While the advocates of thin crust prefer the delicacy of savory and sweet flavors intermingling together in perfect harmony atop a light, crispy and none-too-overpowering delicate crust. That's why I like Classic Slice. They deliver a nice, thin New York style slice hot, right out of the oven. No single ingredient dominates the flavor of each bite. Plus, if you're a thick-cruster, you'll no doubt agree that the slice you are served will be enough to fill your Neanderthal-like appetite. I like the pizza here so much, that I never try anything else. That said, I've dined with others who have equally enjoyed their NFL football-sized calzones. If you finish one of those, you deserve a prize or something. They're HUGE. Sometime in 2013, the company I work for will be moving to a new facility somewhere west of the city, removing me, considerably, from the choice locale I enjoy today near Classic Slice. Great pizza! The crust is thin and crispy, with a bit of char on the bottom from the oven. I love that you can customize your slice with a wide range of toppings. Perfect for picky eaters like me. The slices are huge and easily fill me up. Try not to hog the parmesan cheese! That is a pet peeve of mine. There are only 2-3 cans and people take them and keep them at their tables instead of just sprinkling it on their pizza at the counter. While you're there, sprinkle some of the oregano/herbs on your pizza too. The breadsticks weren't worth the cost in my opinion. They were basically pizza crust brushed slightly with olive oil and seasonings. Considering a huge slice of cheese pizza is cheaper than the breadsticks, and it only takes one slice to be stuffed full, I'll skip the breadsticks in the future. My wife and I have shared the large caesar salad before. It's about what you'd want or expect for a caesar and wasn't too large that we were full before our pizza came. If you go during lunch hours, you get a slice of cheese, pepperoni or sausage and a soda for under $5 (last time I was there). The atmosphere is industrial, with stainless steel tables, decorated skate boards for art, and a tall ceiling. You order at the counter and they call your name when they have something for you. One thing I noticed right away is that the slices are huge. Decided on a small house greens salad with balsamic dressing and a slice of the meatallica pizza. Salad came out first and was really good. Nice mix of greens and the dressing was good too. Next came the meatallica slice. Red sauce, pepporoni, meatball and bacon. I really got spoiled living in New York with great slices but Classic Slice did not dissappoint. MKE's offerings seem to trend toward either totally unique styles, or New York style. I'd say this is kind of a combination of that...New York style but unique, too.
