My friend and I got carryout pizzas for a picnic in a park. We got the La Dolce and Alfredo specialty pizzas. Both had a great balance of toppings to sauce and the dough was absolutely incredible. We added some of our own Mike's Hot Honey to the Alfredo one and would definitely recommend to anyone who loves sweet/spicy/savory combos. I was impressed with their spread of omnivore, vegetarian, and vegan options. On top of it all- VERY reasonable prices for such high-end pizza. These pizzas were some of the best I've had in Milwaukee. I will definitely be returning and am looking forward to trying out some of their unique salads, apps, and more pizza, of course. read more

I looked on Yelp and Facebook for some place in Milwaukee for pizza, and this place came highly recommended. It looked like the type of pizza I was in the mood for, so we went. I'm so glad we did! The atmosphere was fun, the staff were great, and most importantly the pizza was AMAZING. It was just what we were in the mood for, and it was so stinkin good. The crust was thin and crispy on the bottom, but not like thin/cracker crust. The pizza maker came out and spoke with us (which my son thought was super cool). Yum, yum, yum! One of the best vegan pizzas I've had thus far! I had the Mediterranean, personal sized vegan pizza. I liked the fact that this one didn't have vegan cheese, sometimes it tastes a little funny to me and I don't like too much of the processed products. However, it did come with just the right amount of alternate sausage which didn't really bother me because of the amount of veggies. If I remember correctly they have over 6 different vegan pizzas, and if you are vegetarian even more options! I will definitely be back to try more. Back a few years ago I gave Classic Slice a mediocre review. I wanted to update my thoughts as I have been back many times since. Classic Slice has become one of my "Go To" pizza restaurants. Cheese, crust, toppings, I love it all. I especially appreciate being able to order just a "slice" and leave feeling fulfilled. For those of you who have never been there, a slice is as large as or larger than one of those little personal size pizzas. Here's a tip on eating one of these huge slices especially since the crust is so good. Nip a bite of the crust edge then take a bite from the other cheesy side. Yeah it looks kind of weird but this proportions out the crust to no crust better and at the end you don't wind up with a big 'ol crust left on your plate. read more

I found this place on a visit from Chicago looking for Wisconsin cheese. But I didn't even ask if the cheese was from Wisconsin. Turns out, I was just wanted cheese. First time I came here I got a large pizza with sausage and peppers. The ny style pizza was cooked well. The crust was crispy but soft and fluffy on the inside. Easy to fold and eat. I was a little disappointed with the sausage as it was fennel-y and sweet. I prefer mine spicy and garlic-y. But it was good nonetheless. The green peppers were chopped small and spread evenly on the pizza. Also got the Florentine meatballs. Comes with three 2 inch diameter meatballs and a thick slice of French bread. They were great. Topped with minced bacon and deep fried spinach. Not bad at all. Took home the pizza leftovers and it tasted just as good when warmed up in the oven. I came back to Milwaukee a week later and had to go back. This time I just got one of their huge individual slices with meatballs and mushrooms. Not bad, but the texture of the cooked dough was a little different. Likely because it was a premade individual slice (a little drier and crispier). S.O. got meatballs and ricotta. Pretty good as well. Bread texture was the same. Both times I got the cherry Italian soda. Sweet, tasty, and appropriately cuts the richness of the pizza. The staff was patient while I wasted time mulling over the choices. Very nice and helpful as well. read more

A little late but went to Classic Slice in Bay View this past Sunday while out and about using our PubPasses and needed a decent bite to eat. We ordered a large and a friend of ours a medium. We were all pleasantly surprised by the size of the pizza. The medium was more like a large for what we were expecting out of a pizza place like this- designed to be quick and more take out ish then a sit down restaurant. The pizza was GOOD too! I am picky about my Pizzas and our friend is a 'pizza connoisseur' which is just fancy for calling us all pizza snobs. :) Classic slice has plenty of tables for those that order a pizza, kick back a drink, and grab their pizza to go. Placed an order for a Vegan MKE with pinenuts, arugula and VERY LIGHT vegan cheese--I even walked back up to the counter a few minutes after ordering to make sure that, yes, I had indeed requested VERY LIGHT vegan cheese. I even said "less than half the normal amount, please" and returned to relax with my dad before we continued the drive to Green Bay. When our order was ready, roughly 30 mins later, I opened my box to see that it was covered in their scrambled-egg-esque vegan cheese and no green arugula to be found. Suddenly the blue-haired chef appeared and apologized for forgetting the arugula. I then asked her, "is this the normal amount of cheese?" And she said "yes, it is. Oh wait, let me check, I'm not sure." Before retreating to the kitchen to ask the woman who took my order. She then told me that the pie was how I asked--very light cheese. This was obviously false (see the photo I uploaded lol) but we didn't have the time to wait another 30 minutes, and walked away after shaking some nutritional yeast and oregano on top. I appreciate the friendly vibe and vegan options, I really do, but I don't appreciate being lied to. I'm certain that at least the cashier knew she was giving me a pizza that was not correct, and now I'm picking off an abundance of veg-cheese because of it. Taste of the cheese? Not bad, just bland with a strange sweetness. We drove out of our way to stop here. If I lived here, I'd give it another chance gladly, but I think next time I travel to Wisconsin, I'll just save myself the trouble and order typical delivery--no cheese. read more

I reeeeeally wanna give these guys more stars but I simply don't love their 'za. I'm a few blocks away so it's so convenient, love the casual punk atmosphere, real ingredients and nice menu options. Their spinach and artichoke dip with warm bread is quite delicious and I've brought home a calzone before, although they need a much sturdier to go box for those. My box soaked through and leaked pizza grease and juices all over the place by the time I got home...4 blocks away! Their slices are of a generous size but I'm just not a fan of the sauce. It tastes flat. Or "dusty", I can't quite put my finger on it. I've tried ignoring it and doctoring it up with extra parm but it still brings me disappointment. So in a pinch I will get something here but my slice of choice in MKE comes from Ian's. HOWEVER, despite my pizza-sauce-snubbing tastebuds, this place is a MKE institution and I do recommend making this place worthy of a stop! read more

Maybe as close as you can get to decent New York pizza (which is the best in the world) in Milwaukee. Slices are huge and tasty. Great stretch on the cheese. The sauce was okay, but the crust was nice and chewy. Good vegan/gluten free options. The space is cool, very spacious, with a large table in the middle. Dang! soda in the fountain, which is unique. Love love love this place. The slices are HUGE! Im talking half the size of a normal pizza. The price is right too. For only about $5 you can get a slice of cheese, sausage or pepperoni. They also have specialty pizzas that you can get too. These are only $7. My favorites are the Meatallica (think every meat on your slice and this is it), Top Gun (there's mashed potatoes on this!) & the sausage (can't go wrong with this). This is a favorite place to go for a lot of my co-workers. Whenever I get this it's always a two mealer for me. If you haven't checked this place out, go. Toppings range from the expected pepperoni to the unexpected curry sauce. Slices are huge and a meal themselves. Let's start with what an awesome community business Classic Slice is. They sponsor teams of all kinds, they support other local business and they are truly all-around good guys, always. And if this review was just about that it would be a neon glowing five stars. But looking at all the elements a solid 3.5 (rounded up on the good guys note) is the best I can do right now. You don't go here for ambiance, you go for pizza. The vibe has all the makings of a college pizza hangout except a jukebox. The employees do a great jobs of rotating the amatuer DJ duties and there's always a good jam in the mix. But let's talk pizza. Gluten free pizza to be specific. The Slice makes a very valiant effort to create their own pizza dough recipe make from all GF ingredients. It's very heavy on the corn flour and that nearly overpowers the taste of the sauce and the cheese. ($10 for an nine inch cheese pizza). I didn't realize until I had this GF that I'm very, very spoiled by the other local pizza joints that get their crusts from a local GF bakery that nails the taste and texture to the tune of six on a five star scale. Regardless of my personal disappointment in the crust, the sauce and cheese and fresh toppings are their signatures and all are at the top of the Milwaukee pizza game. So speaking from my pre-GF days this is one of the best pies in town. But it GF is your game you may want to seek out some other options. read more

Yeah, Classic Slice has pretty much the best pizza in the city. Slices as big as your head with tons of topping options and it's all really good quality stuff. A lot of times, just a plain slice of cheese just really hits the spot for me, but I like to get the avocado salad with it. I know this place is known for its pies, but don't neglect all of the other things they have to offer. They are not kidding around with this salad: arugula, edamame, crushed pistachios, mint, roasted golden beets, and avocado with red pepper dressing. HUH?! So unique and amazing. Dan always, always orders a slice of the Meatallica pizza, but if you know him, is it really all that surprising? I'm sure you'd like that one. It has all of the meats. MEAT PILE! I'll take a slice the size of my torso, please. I'll start by saying I rarely eat pizza. If I do, it usually is Classic Slice. I'm not in it for the massive quantities - I really like the taste. My favorite is the Super Veggie, minus broccoli, add vegan sausage, vegan cheese and "Anne Curry" sauce. I'm not vegan, but man, I love this pizza as listed. I recently ordered the slice of the week that featured roasted garlic, eggplant and basil. It was also divine. And yes, I added a side of the Anne Curry sauce for dipping. Where does this curry sauce come from? They do offer a pizza called the Anne Curry. It boasts broccoli, spinach, roasted tofu and this infamous sauce. It wasn't my thing so I worked out my favorite combinations from there. Dine in is funky and cozy with skateboards themed for local business, 3-player X-Men (R.I.P. missing joystick) and Ms. Pac Man. I also very much enjoy the cartoons, like the DJ cat. (I don't know how else to explain this, but if you go here I think you will understand.) Sometimes I am in the mood for a certain type of pizza, and Classic Slice fills that void. It may not fill *every* pizza craving but regardless, I have a special place in my G.I. tract for Classic Slice none the less. "I'm a fan" pretty much sums up my feelings for Classic Slice. The Mister tried CS last week and had been talking it up, so we decided to hit them up for a quick dinner. The space is great - open and very "Bay View". That's code for "consciously ironic" as evidenced by the clearly-appropriated-from-someone's-high-school chairs around the big communal table, the classic arcade games and the skateboard decks on the wall designed by local businesses. It's casual & fun. The menu caters to pretty much everyone - carnivores (see: Meatallica slice), vegetarians, vegans and those who are gluten-free. You can pick one of their creative specialty slices/pizzas or design your own. Because I'm boring, I did a plain sausage slice and really liked it. Most specifically the crust which is the right kind of crunchy & chewy for me. Next time, I might opt for their homemade meatballs - they're really good. Portions are absolutely huge - one slice WILL fill you up. So you order at the counter (friendly hipster guy in our case) and they call you when it's ready (about 5 minutes). I was glad that Angel "Angel & Jerry" Ü. took us to this place and we will most surely return. The first thing I noticed was how nice the staff were. I believe ear gages and sleeve tatts are required for employment here. They were all very patient as we worked our way through the choices. We opted for the popeye pie that was the size of a coffee table. It was good but I want to come back and find the pie that is great. They have a community table which is always a plus in my book, calzones I am curious about and since I love chocolate chip cookies - I must return to try theirs as they looked amazing. They're enormous! $7 May seem like a lot for 1 slice of pizza, but the sheer size of it easily amounts to 3 maaaaybe 4 slices. What I really like about classic is the creative variety of pizzas they offer. Anywhere from mashed potato to curry (they have regular toppings too of course). I've been bugging my husband to go to NY with me so I can get a good slice of pizza (I've had too many bad pizza experiences around here) but now I've found an amazing one here! I love the thin but chewy crust and the light ingredients. I tried the Ann Curry which was an amazing blend of a veggie pizza with curried tofu. My husband went with a calzone which was crazy big and also very good. Mother in law had the greek one which she really enjoyed. Checked out Classic Slice the other day. I've heard some good things about this place. It kind of has a cafeteria feel to it (In a good way). It's an open concept space. It's a small joint in Bay View with the classic local feel to it. They do gluten free, vegan, and vegetarian. They sell a couple different bottles beers. There is outdoor seating at a few picnic tables. The atmosphere is ideal for the neighborhood. The food is really where they shine. The pizza is surprisingly authentic NY. Great place for a bite of pizza! If you're stopping by be aware that there is a fitness place on the side facing Kinnickinnic, and the pizza joint faces S. California St., we went right past it... Eclectic interior with lots of punk/mucic posters, snowboards, and cool cats working behind the counter. We ordered Sprecher sodas to wet our whistle. And as for the pie, it's been a while so I can't remember what I ordered for pizza specifically, but it was a half and half bit of fun that was good enough for me to venture this way again.
