I have been a customer of this establishment for the last 10 years. I have both bought clocks and had them repaired here. I have gotten to know the proprietor, Nile over the years. He is an incredible resource. Not only is he personable, he really knows clocks. He is always willing to share details about my clocks, and offers suggestions on how to keep them running and other tips. I routinely go into the shop to see what's new and enjoy the discussions. Last week my antique clock needed some tender loving care that I could not do myself. A good friend told me about a business in Livermore that bought, sold and repaired clocks. I drove the thirty miles hoping that this was the right decision. I was promptly greeted upon entering the shoppe by Nile Godfrey: proprietor of Classic Clock & Antiques. I explained the problem, within two minutes not only was my clock fixed, he explained how to fix it myself if it happened again. My Godfrey did not charge me for his expertise. Avoid this place like the plague. Was told 4 weeks to replace mainspring on Seth Thomas clock. Four weeks later I called to be told that the spring had just come in, and it would be done in 1-2 weeks. Four weeks later I called and was told it was apart and the spring was being installed. Went in today after 14 weeks to find that the clock, covered with dust, had never been touched. Niles the owner never called and the three times I called him he mislead me each time. Nile is a total flake! He never returns calls. Makes hollow promises on completion dates. He is real nice on the phone and in person but he fails to deliver on his stated time. I took a cuckoo clock to him in early December and finally get it back in February when originally he stated he would return it before Xmas. He gave excuses about illness which were acceptable and understandable. When he returned the clock still had problems. I returned to have him fix the problem and still have issues with the clock. Sadly I gave him another clock to repair in early February and asked for a delivery date. He said a month. Called him last week and he said a week. Called yesterday and he said another week, and then got defensive when I told him he has said the same a week previously. I just want my clocks back in working condition and no excuses. I recommend going elsewhere for any clock repair! Nice little shop to buy stuff in. I wish the place did repairs in a complete fashion and timely manner. read more

I didn't make it to his shop but I called to set up a time where Neil could come by and fix my clock. He was able to help me troubleshoot the problem over the phone and now for the past two hours it has been keeping perfect time. He is very knowledgeable and was able to explain to me (someone who knows absolutely nothing about clicks) what I need to look for and do to fix it. I will go out of my way if I need anything that has to do with clocks and get it at his place. He has made a customer for life. read more

I bought a pendulum wall clock on eBay that was not working when it was delivered. I took it to Classical Clocks and he fixed it while I was there. It was a fairly simple fix (for him) and he did not charge me! The clock was advertised as new, but the owner said it was made in 1984. Armed with this information, I requested and received a partial refund from the seller. read more

i did not get a clock repaired so i have no idea whether some of the 1 star reviews are true. i do know that while i was in the store having Nile inspect my grandfather clock he knew what he was talking about. also the store was fairly busy and a few customers picked up clocks that had been repaired. personally, if i go back to having a vintage clock this is where i would get it repaired. read more

I tend to write reviews only for businesses that I have had very positive encounters with, but I'm afraid this time I feel compelled to share an experience that will hopefully spare others a lot of frustration. I brought my mantel clock in for repair in February of 2017 and was told he would give me a call when it was ready. In May, after hearing nothing, I went into the shop and the owner told me that he had been hurt and in the hospital, and that he'd get working on it and give me a call. After hearing nothing again, in August I went into his shop again, and he told me more excuses (no apology), and that he would work on it that week and give me a call. Again hearing nothing for two months, I went back into the shop this week to get my clock and take it somewhere else to get repaired. He found it sitting on a table in the shop, near the front of the store, chiming. I asked if it was repaired, and he responded as if, "of course it is!" Then he proceeded to tell me that he had tried to call me back in May to let me know it was ready. When I reminded him that I had been in the shop in August and it had not been repaired, he looked up and said "I was testing it." Another lie. Never once did I receive an apology for the slow service or for his failure to call to let me know what was going on. He even suggested that I should bring it in for service every year to two years. I told him that I would not be back because it took sooo long. My receipt says "Oil and adjust- $125." That took 9 months to complete. I have not purchased a clock from him, so I have no idea what that experience would be like. However, if anything ever goes wrong with it, good luck getting it repaired. read more

WARNING, WARNING, if you want excuse after excuse about Niles personal problems why your clock isn't fixed after months and months, (8 to be exact) yes, Niles is nice enough, but he takes forever, and each time the excuses kept coming, a dog bit my finger, I am waiting for the spring to come in, each and every time we would call on our clock there would be another excuse. When we finally picked up our clock it was covered with dust, almost like it had never been touched. We would never ever go back. read more

Beware of using the shop for any major repair. I inherited a clock that my grandfather had built. During shipping to me it was damaged. The damage was to the movement and the case, Niles quickly gave me a quote so I could collect the insurance money for it. Once I asked Niles to go ahead and make the repairs it took him over a year and a half. I constantly had to contact him to receive information about the progress and was met with excuses about his personal injuries and sub contractors leaving the country. The final visit to get the clock back he told me he had lost the handle to the face door and the clock face was missing a number. It took him two hours to reattach a new handle and find my receipt. I reluctantly paid him because it was a family heirloom and he refused to discount the price. I brought the clock home and found one of the columns was not even attached to the case. This maybe a store where you can buy clocks but if it is a clock that you like and want repaired properly do not use this store. read more
