Waited an hour for a table. Waited two hours to get food after ordering. Lack luster bland sea food getting by on their location. Also, the DJ should be keel hauled. Loud terrible music with no food. Zero stars. Follow up--after they took 2 hours to serve us, we were rushed out so a bad cover band could start playing. Avoid this place like the plague. Further follow up-- a two star review below mentioned a bread basket?? We went on a VERY busy day, during the maritime festival. The food was good, nothing very memorable. The service was slow and the menu was limited. I was a bit disappointed by how few choices they had. I know they just changed ownership and hopefully under the new owners they can work out some of the kinks. Don't go here. Unless you don't care to waste your money. Ok here goes. Two bowls of lobster bisque(with hardly any lobster in it), fluke with about a tablesppon of greens and fish and chips. Bill came to $89.00. My husband and I had to look at the bill a few times. Unbelievable. Not only did that give me indigestion, but we had to wait for the help to eventually realize we were sitting there. New ownership, bad service. We went two years ago and the staff and food were great. Really went downhill since. Also, if you get there 5 minutes earlier then 5, they have you grazing like cattle in the bar area. Went here with my wife for an evening out, the staff is completely disconnected with you right off the bat from the hostess to the wait staff. Extremely short interactions that seem like you are inconveniencing them by dining there. Very unpleasant. The prices for the quality of food served is way off base. There are many other options in the area to consider for way better food at the same price. They need to revamp their entire approach, unfortunately they wont because the summer tourists keep going based on the history of this place. got off to a poor start when the hostess was a total b*atch - rude, short-tempered and just nasty. Rather than deal with her, we decided to eat at the bar. The bartender's service was pleasant and efficient. I had a bowl of the New England clam chowder, and found it to be a bit runny, and quite bland. The portion size was spot on, but that was the highlight of the dish. For lunch I had the fish and chips. The fries were terrible. The fish was a good sized piece of cod, but the batter was mushy, and it was overall very doughy. Pretty much a poor and disappointing lunch for me. Four of us ate at Claudio's dock side restaurant on a Monday afternoon. We all had lobster rolls that were amazing. Full of large chunks of delicious lobster for $28, a fair price. However it came with a bag of potato chips and cole slaw. Kind of cheap. French fries would have been nicer. Service was very very slow. My main complaint was the $10 parking fee and it wasn't even valet parking! The previous owners validated your parking however the new owners are not. I understand parking is at a minimum and there are other people parking there who are not eating at Claudios. But come on Claudio's. VALIDATE YOUR customers parking. We're certainly spending enough money at your restaurant. It's the least you can do to show your appreciation. read more

This restaurant is EXCELLENT!!! I'm still seated at my table and just couldn't wait to review. I ordered a caesar salad (no kale) and a lobster bisque. The salad came out first. The portion was huge and enough to split with my fiancé. It was also one of the best salads I've ever had in my life. Also, the bisque was so thick and creamy. The flavor was excellent. Also, our waitress Claire was so sweet. Only reason I took a star away is because the hostess was nasty and impatient. Also just a tip, there is a parking lot behind the restaurant that charges $20 to park, however the restaurant reimburses you if you eat here and don't just park to shop. Not sure if they do this for everyone, but they reimbursed us in cash, in full. I was just expecting it to come off our bill at the end. read more

Claudio's did a great job preparing a special family style meal for my family in honor of my mother. I worked with Thaddius King to plan the menu and he was very accommodating for our wishes. The food was plentiful and delicious for our family of 14. He also allowed us to bring in our own wine and pay a small corkage fee. We sat at a beautiful table upstairs with a view of the water. The service was very good. I would recommend the restaurant to anyone who wants to have a special meal. read more

I came to Claudio's when I visited Greenport for the first time because of its historic presence in the town. While I am don't know what the restaurant was like under its former management, I thoroughly enjoyed my lobster roll! The bun was buttery and toasted, the lobster was fresh and the fries were nice and crisp on the outside but fluffy on the inside. I am looking forward to returning to Claudio's! read more

Horrible horrible horrible. This happened this Saturday. My family and I were about 40 min drive away, so we called to make sure that they had room for the 6 of us. We spoke to a man on the phone, who took our name and assured us he would have a table waiting for us. However this was not the case. When we arrived, the two hostesses were incredibly rude and inappropriate. They claimed they did not have a reservation for us, and started yelling for the whole place to hear that we never called, even though there was a record of it on our cellphone. I understand that they could have made the mistake of losing our reservation, but to degrade my family like that is unacceptable. To offer no solution and to instead usher us out was shocking to me. I am giving this place two stars because they made me so mad today. First, everything else about it: Food: Delish. Service: Pretty good. Decor: Dandy. (I've been here about a half dozen times, and I've also been to the outdoor Claudio's about four times). Ok. On to my gripe: I stopped in today to order two quarts of soup to go. Literally, all the Claudio's people would have had to do is fill up two quart containers with soup. That's it. They would have made close to $40 on ladling pre-made soup from their soup vats into the quart containers. Ridiculous Claudio's Person: "Oh. We aren't doing to-go's today." Me: (Flabbergasted face). Were they busy? I grant you they were busy. But I've worked in the restaurant business. Unless you're doing it wrong, you are never too busy to do something as easy as I asked Claudio's to do for me today. Also, while busy, they weren't THAT BUSY. It wasn't like a line down the block or anything. It was good-busy. Busy you hope for, in a restaurant, when the economy sucks and you rely on the summer tourists anyway. Bread and butter stuff, right? Look, Claudio's doesn't need my business. They proudly proclaim that they are America's oldest single family owned restaurant; they've been around since the latter half of the nineteenth century. But you know what? They don't need my business? They won't get it again. Claudio's, it's been real. You aren't the only restaurant in Greenport that makes delicious soup. Overpriced. Underwhelming. Yuck. Aren't there any other restaurants in this town? Everyone seems to flock to Claudio's without good reason. Granted, this name swallows a large portion of the bay's view--but my party did not have the liberty of this spectacle as we were seated at perhaps the worst table in the house, which could have easily served as a reception area. It's especially difficult to enjoy overpriced and sub-par quality food right next to the entrance by the noisy booze-drinking crowd at the adjacent bar. Server comes with glasses of water and bread basket (fresh baked multi-grain bread with a side of herb-infused olive oil). Great bread, I was excited for the rest of the food! She takes our order of: Cajun Dusted Calamari - tiny rings of fried squid and tentacles topped with tangy pickled peppers, tomatoes and onions -this dish was more crispy than chewy, it's like we were served the scrap that was left over after making the "real" calamari -the clash of the soured/slightly fermented tasting tomatoes with the aioli atop this greasy manifestation was too much to stomach House Specialty Baked Clams - 4 shells the size of 1/2 golf balls containing mushy stuffing (there might have been some clam in there but it escaped my palate) reconfigured on a shell -I really couldn't decide which was worse, this or... Claudio's own creamy Lobster Bisque -too custardy, it was like a salty and slightly fishy bowl of orange cream. Where's the lobster content? Lobster Cobb Sliders -objectively speaking, these were not great but definitely the lesser of all the other atrocities served up that night. -pathetic burnt "Apple-Wood Bacon" bits... hah! BITS!? Not strips.... I was careful with each bite because I thought I was noshing on lobster shells -not stale but cold, untoasted potato rolls served as the vessel for the oh-so-forgettable lobster mix, THIN slice of avocado, and cherry tomato I was optimistic about eating seafood by the water (such beautiful imagery), but they're really slacking on quality... however since most people who come here are in love with the name or are feasting on the view, it probably won't matter that the menu is overpraised for these cut corners. read more

I WISH I had read some of the reviews of Claudio's before going, because I probably would've went someplace else. My husband and I were in Greenport for our anniversary and a friend of mine recommended this place. Usually she doesn't steer me wrong, but after our experience I might have to second guess her suggestions. We ordered oysters, lobster bisque, baked clams, stuffed shrimp over linguini and the fried seafood platter. First we were served bread, which was hot and delicious, so my husband and I thought we were in for a good meal. 1)The oysters were recommended by the hostess, and they were just ok. Nothing special. 2)The baked clams were downright gross. I've had delicious baked clams before, and this was just mush placed on top of clams. There wasn't any flavor to the breadcrumbs and it was barely cooked. 3) The lobster bisque had to be sent back TWICE because it was served to us cold. TWICE! 4) My stuffed shrimp had the same filling that was used on the baked clams. Same lack of taste, same mushy texture. The linguini was overcooked. Disappointed. 5) My husband's seafood platter was ok. His side of mashed potatoes was cold. We alerted our waiter to all of this but he could barely manage a mumble of "sorry." He didn't offer a complimentary glass of wine or even dessert. I guess that's not how they roll. We probably should've talked to the manager. Claudio's is lucky it's in such a great location on the water because they probably make so much money off of walk-ins alone. It must be a goldmine. If it was in another location it probably would not have lasted as long. It doesn't have to make an effort to be good because people will often choose a beautiful view out the window over decent food. Good solid food, friendly service! Located near the water, Claudio's is a great spot for a couple of drinks and a bite to eat. The lobster Cobb sliders are really good. Though this is one time is have to say bacon did not make it better. It comes with fries that were nice and crisp, the way i like them. The lobster salad is beautiful on it's own, complimented nicely by the avocado. The wine list contains several local wines which is always nice. OMG seriously what's the fuss!? This was my first time here and wow never coming here again. I have to say that I have not tried the other 2 locations, and might give them a chance. Where do I start!? The older lady who was the hostess was extremely rude. I mean there was no reason for her to be this rude. And to prove my point other people waiting gave her dirty looks. Anyways, the food was alright. Nothing to gush about. What killed the mood fro everyone was HAIR in my moms fish! If you ever find yourself on Greenport, the hipster town of the North Fork, you will undoubtedly find yourself at Claudios at least once every summer. It's not fancy, so when people whine that their waitress was out of a 50s diner, I wonder what they expected in this small ruralish town. This is where I brought my parents for their anniversary because they have solid food, great views and simplicity. They loved everything, and then we went for a walk by the water. Start your meal off with the mussels, which are classic, and keep your lobsters under 21/2 pounds or they'll be tough. The raw bar is very fresh, they even have foi gras and the clam chowder is legendary. If you're looking for pretension and airs, this is not the place for you. If you're looking for a nice place to go and have great seafood, then give Claudio's a chance. It's a tradition place, in that people go there every single year for whatever they are celebrating. Not cheap, but worth it as this is the definitive Greenport restaurant. read more

Had to try since new owners took over and the re-do.... staff was incredibly nice, accommodating and friendly. Went on a sat eve and they had live music, but way too loud.. was like being at a wedding. Food was ordered... got burata, delicious.. small reg salad (horrible). Bad dressing and had kale and some other weird lettuce. Entrees were duck which was very good and hanger steak which was quite frankly -- disgusting. Sent back, they re-made it and I had 4 bites and quit. Just horribly flavored and def bad meat. Do NOT get the hanger steak !!! But again, the staff was just so nice and they took the steak off the check.... honestly for what this is, it's just too expensive like most places on NOFO and the food quality isn't there. I love this place. I've been going here since I was a kid so everytime I go I feel like a child all over again. The location is great as you can watch all the fishing boats and neat stuff like that. greenport has really grown over the last few years. Lots of small shops surround this establishment now. Plus they moved the awesome carousel right next door. Go here if you want a relaxed atmosphere and some great food. A bit pircey but you'll deal once you taste how good it is. read more

A friend recommended Claudio's on the waterfront. She meant the other Claudio's. I had no idea that Claudio's owned a zillion places within a stones throw of eachother. A mistake I will not make again. The prices here are exhorbitant. The environment is stuffy and conservative. The flounder was drowning in butter. The salad was uninspired (iceberg lettuce featured heavily and the shredded carrots bore the telltale powdery hue that suggests it was purchased preshredded and/or kept a long time before using. Maybe I just ordered the wrong things. I suspect the target audience of this venue is someone more like the older guy who sat next to us prattling about how gays should not be allowed to get married. But the venue was all wrong for me, a tattooed mom vacationing alone with an anxious five year old in search of an easy breezy meal. (the next day we went to the claudios on the water and it was very relaxing and pleasant) The one redeeming factor was the really nice staff, I really appreciated their prompt attention and their kindness to my son. They let him ogle the lobsters and even took one out for him. If only I could have afforded to eat one here, then it might have been a better experience but $50 is too much. Can't beat the view of the harbor and the historic charm of this Greenport dining institution. It's been around so long for a reason! This clam chowder is rockin'! I didn't order it (my friend did), but I may as well have ordered it because I ate so much of her serving! Creamy, tons of seafood and addictively delicious. Dare I say this is one of the best clam chowders I've had? Loved the wine tasting - three small glasses local of reds or whites served in an old piece of wood. Though I enjoyed my lobster, I can't say it was the best I'd ever had. The local corn it was served with on the other hand was divine and I easily could have had a second ear of it. Our server was nice enough, but it was hard to pin her down when it came time for the check. Buying a gift card was difficult and we sat for an extra 10-15 minutes while the waitress tried to locate someone to help her. read more

Location is killer ! Overlooking the harbor does not get much better than this. Enough of the formalities....The food is barely OK. Sometimes the clams on the half shell are served really cold and they are delectable. Most times however, the clams and oysters are not cold enough to really enjoy. Anyone who loves a fresh "shucked" clam or oyster knows that ice cold is the only way to serve these delightful bottm feeders. Let's go on to the appitizers: Usually not served hot enough to enjoy. Main course is very "hit and miss". I have been going to Claudio's for over 20 years now, and all I can say is: Location, Location, Location ! We ate there about 10 years ago.....it was so, so. We figured maybe now we would try again, maybe better? Not! Tables and customers so close! On top of each other! Waitresses and busboys new and confused; just working here for the summer. Ice tea warm with 2 slivers of ice floating in it. Silverware stained. You have to pay extra for cold, greasy, sweet potato fries instead of the regular fries. Lobster roll - okay. Roll itself cold. Good seafood restaurant and wonderful renovation by the new owners. I can't believe they did so much with the space! It used to look like a Howard Johnson's! We had a very pleasant meal. I had the crab cake to start and the sea bass special as an entree. One of my companions had the Oyster Claudio as an appetizer and the local fluke. Claudios's went above and beyond to make everyone happy. The service was top notch!! The waiter had a baby girl on the way and still provided the best service I've had in a long time. Everyone working here made the group I was with feel special and provided great food and laughs. I can truly say that the wait staff went above and beyond to make girls night one for the books. The salad, with added grilled shrimp (not on the menu but a special request from me, truly appreciated!!) was delicious and gourmet, one of the best. Went here after spending the day on Shelter Island where the restaurants are extremely expensive. We thought we would have a better selection in Greenport so we made the trip back. It was later in the evening around 8:30 and we were absolutely starving. We tried finding a place that had some seafood and was reasonably priced. We settled on Claudio's since it was slightly cheaper than other places in the area but still pretty pricey. All I wanted was a lobster roll or burger. The Claudio's restaurant menu has mostly lobster, steaks and mediocre looking and expensive entrees. We should have gone to Claudio's Clam bar instead but didn't know if they had indoor seating. Anyway, if you're looking for simple seafood entrees, sandwiches, salads, raw bar, etc. for a reasonable price skip the restaurant and head for the clam bar. As for the food, we were kind of disappointed. The bread basket in the beginning was not warm (come on, that's the easiest way to make customers very happy!!) although the multigrain bread was quite good. The Lobster Bisque was just okay and had no pieces of lobster in it whatsoever. The littleneck clams on the half shell were good as I expected. I got the steamers appetizer for my main meal. It was gigantic (as it should have been for $19!!) but the juice was pretty bland. I tried some Parmesan truffle fries and those were actually quite good (the portion was very large too). The mozzarella special appetizer my sister got was very mediocre and bland as well. Overall, very mediocre food. It ended up still being $88 for 3 people with no drinks, no full entrees, and only 3 soups, a house salad, 6 clams, 2 appetizers and a side of fries. Claire made all the difference here! My mother and I were on a trip with no end destination and found ourselves in Greenport. Everybody - local and tourist - we asked along the street said we must eat at Claudios. Even being from NYC, I thought the prices were a little high but Mom was dying for lobster. We were sat immediately though my mother was disappointed when we were told there were reservations and we could not sit on the water by the windows. She even commented halfway into our meal the tables were still open. While they offer free bread - it's not worth it. Neither is the fishy-tasting coleslaw. But Mom liked her lobster and I enjoyed my clam stuffing baked flounder. This can often be over-cooked but it was not. My sweet potato fries were great too. Homemade tartar sauce - very good. And...I like that they offered wine flights from the local vineyards. Our waitress was named Claire. She's a vet at Claudios and a local. She provided us with recommendations of hotels in the area and overall was just WONDERFUL. I hope you can sit in her section and that her bosses see this because Claire and her service and friendliness are why this is 4 stars. read more

My husband and I ate dinner at Claudio's on Saturday night for our anniversary. We had a reservation and were seated about 20 minutes after, despite many open tables. Our waiter was clearly not familiar with the menu- we had to explain and point out the cacio e pepe dish when ordering. We received bread after our entrees had already arrived and had to continuously ask for more water- but our glasses were never refilled. Terrible service even though the food was decent.
