08/10/25 @ 12 noon for Party of 2 Sorry not sorry - We came across Clavo & Canela IG page the evening prior deciding to cross the Antioch Bridge with $8 toll bridge just so we can support local businesses and give this place a try! We were led to believe their menu was 100% El Salvadorean dishes based on the IG reels which was not the case (sad). We were immediately seated soon after we arrived and while waiting for the service, we witnessed a few groups that came in and left soon after since they couldn't wait 15-20 mins for available tables. Based on the menu presented to us, we were told that there were a few items that weren't available and one of them was "Ube pancakes" and that's when we kinda lost it a bit, like "Ube pancakes?!! Isn't this an El Salvadorean restaurant?! Why offer Ube pancakes?!" Whatever- anyways we told the server we came to try the following: 1 pc rice pupusa with queso con loroco $5.25 1 pc regular masa pupusa with queso con loroco $4.75 1 Desayuno Salvadoreño $15.95 As stated on the menu "Delicious deep fried plantain, scrambled eggs with vegetables, CASAMIENTO (see picture), sour cream, and cheese." There was NO trace of CASAMIENTO on the plate nor were we told otherwise by the server. Moving right along to SERVICE: Understandably so, we didn't expect much when it comes to service with two young adults running the floor (taking orders & cleaning tables) - definitely needs more training! Something as simple as bringing over napkins & utensils either soon after cleaning the table, taking an order or even delivering one of the orders or whatever. We waited probably a good 7 mins before we were given teaspoons for our coffee cups and I was literally halfway done with my rice pupusa (thanks to my teaspoon!) before we were given proper utensils and a mason jar of curtido. Note to self: BYO utensils smh It's as if you're forced to only order "to-go" rather than dine-in. Both pupusas were pretty good, nevermind the experience, but as far as the plate order, we will skip it for now until they figure it out whether or not to serve it with a couple of plain tortillas and/or bread (see picture) and perhaps actually serve CASAMIENTO as stated! read more

We came across this little gem on Yelp. We were very pleasantly surprised on how good and fresh the food is. The young man that is a server is nice, attentive, and patient. We were looking over the menu and decided to go with their Tostones Tropicales to start. Let me tell you to see something so elegantly served and with that flavor profile was great. Without exaggeration truly looks as if it's served at a 5 star resort. My wife went with the desayuno Salvadoreño and I went more classic chorizo and eggs. They were both great. Their tortillas are different than what I'm used to but much better. Their beans are very good. The plantains are perfect. If you'd like to experience a great breakfast at a bargain of a price and flavors that are not in every restaurant give this place a try. We love it. This is a late review. Stopped by to pick up lunch on Sept. 12. The restaurant is new, so everything was super nice; clean and bright with murals and Salvadoran decorations on the walls. I received a warm & friendly welcome upon entering. I ordered two pork pupusas to go. It was about a 15-20 min. wait because I didn't call ahead. The pupusas were delicious! I just wished they had given me a fork and napkins. It was difficult to eat them without any utensils. I ate the pupusas at Kaiser on a picnic table outside. Family went out last night and wanted to try out this place. There aren't much Salvadorian places around so we were curious. Order Pastelitos, Revuelta pupusas and Loroco pupusas. The Curtido was really good! Loved the lemony taste to it. We all really liked the flavor and the food was DELICIOUS! The taste is authentic and you can tell they put love in their food. I slipped into Clavo & Canela on a Saturday, just as the doors clicked open--10am feels a touch late for brunch hunger, but the welcome more than made up for it. It's a family spot through and through: open, clean, inviting, with Salvadoran roots stitched into the décor and the menu. The owners are genuinely kind--the sort who make you feel like a regular by the second sip of coffee. Service is a little green, but that's the Bay these days; front-of-house veterans are rare, and you can feel a young team learning in real time. A simple bread service would go a long way to tame the "I woke up hungry" energy while the kitchen fires up--just a thought from a serial bruncher. I went Santa Fe on the omelette. Next time I'll ask for an extra egg to give the fillings more room to shine, but the chorizo? Among the best I've had--deep, brick-red spice with just enough fat to carry the flavor. The hash brown patty was crisp around the edges but oversized; I'd love a smaller, thicker cake for that creamy-center, crunchy-edge contrast (salt-fat-heat harmony!). Rice and beans were comforting; the beans ran a bit long on the stove and edged into dip territory, but the seasoning was there. Minor hiccups aside, this is exactly the kind of neighborhood brunch we need: heart, heritage, and a kitchen that's clearly cooking with care. I was very excited when I heard there was a new Salvadorean restaurant in town and couldn't wait to try it. We stopped by around 11:45 today, Sunday, and the place was full, which is a good sign...so I thought. I was craving some plátanos fritos con frijoles y crema and my husband wanted to try the pupusas. To our disappointment, their breakfast menu left a lot to be desired. What kind of Salvadorean restaurant does not offer pupusas or plátanos fritos for breakfast!! we asked our waitress if there was another menu, and she said yes, but she could not bring it out to us until 12 PM or she would get written up! I really want to like this place for so many reasons. I do think they need to hone in on some of the flavors a bit more. The pupusas, while cheesey/meaty, are lacking a flavor that I can't seem to figure out. They also were off in size, which I found odd being that they should be uniform. They kind of fell apart which is not typical. Husband thinks it's that masa quality. Idk The curtido, while crisp and fresh, had a sort of floral flavor coming through. Idk if the oregano was mixed with another herb, but it was "distracting", however, I love that they brought it out in a jar. Reminiscent of El Salvador! Most places are scant in portion and inevitably I ask for more, so this was a nice surprise. The Jamaica was yummy, but I wanted horchata...they were out by mid day Friday. Odd The platanos needed to be sweeter and the beans were a tad runny. The sour cream was yummy. The vibe is great and I really like the signing wall. The service was spot on. I've never written a bad review ever until today. when we walked in no one greeted us. We ordered a horchata shake, water bottle, and Kolashampang for drinks. This took 20 minutes to receive. From this point i did not want to even imagine the wait time for the actual food. There was another lady in the restaurant that sent back her food for some reason. At this point we walked up to the register and requested to pay for the drinks and leave. We ended up canceling our food order also. I asked if they can take off the salvi horchata shake that i only took 2 sips of and unfortunately they were not able to. The place was empty and slow at the time, so not sure why it took long for drinks in general. I understand it's a small business but when it comes to customer service and understanding it was not at all there. Unfortunately, this is not a good review. The place was clean and the woman who took our order was friendly. The establishment was not busy so I don't see a reason for such poor customer service. Once she brought us our food (we were a family of three) she never returned to ask if we needed anything. We were there for about 1 hr. and no one came out to check on us. We flagged down the bus boy and asked him if he could bring us water, dessert, and our check. The pupusas were too thick, too much masa. I would have preferred they be a thinner consistency. The filling was nothing special, very ordinary and not flavorful. The dessert, not good. I do not recommend this establishment and needless to say, we will not be returning. read more

This new restaurant is super inviting and clean, the ladies were very friendly.. We went yesterday and got pupusas revueltas.. and empanadas de leche.. Love the fact the pupusas were not greasy . Good sizes for sure .. but need a tiny bit of more condiments it tasted really blend .. when we came home had to add salt/pepper to the curtido ( coleslaw) too . The empanadas.. the plantain was not ripe when they cooked it . In order to have a delicious empanadas the plantain had to be ripe that's were the sweet taste come from of course you can add sugar but the consistency of the plantain is very important.. too.. the filling was good. Good consistency .. over all price was good, we wanted horchata but didn't have it .. # 1 drink of El Salvador! It's always a pleasure to dine at Clavo y Canela! This Sunday it was busy with a very large party of 16+ and no seats available. We were going to order food to go but asked a couple to share their table. They were gracious and accepted. The flexibility of strangers was so worth it! We ordered a wide variety of items as we love to taste everything on their menu. We particularly enjoyed their pastalitas with shredded chicken, the platanos fritas, the tamales de elote and several of the perfect pupusas. A surprise try, and a very pleasant one, was the incredibly flavorful Tierra y Mar burger!! Wow!!! I thought my husband was crazy to order a burger at a puppusaria, but turns out he was smart to do so. Tasty!!! It's two days later and I reheated leftovers for lunch (6 minutes at 360 in the air fryer) and it's just as tasty as Sunday!! I was able to stop in this place on their soft open. Let me tell you. I have found my regular spot for breakfast and lunch. Amazing food! Everything we had was fresh and flavorful. We had the Huevos rancheros with hasbrowns. Excellent The hasbrowns were so perfectly made with that little crispy crunch on it Rancheros had fresh peppers with beans layered with sauce and egg. . The Santa Fe omelette loaded with chorizo and potato fresh peppers avocado and cheese with fresh tomatoes and cilantro on top with rice and beans. The omelette was fantastic but that rice and beans. We are from town. We came to try the arina de arroz pupusas. Which I rate 3/10. The cheese wasn't even streachy and melted it had like chunks of it that were not even melted. My son order 2 cheese which he left. Rating the arroz masa I give it a 2/10. The thickness was good but the texture and shape need alot of improvement. They are supposed to be round, super soft and not crunchy. I know that masa is very hard to work with. $5 bucks for a pupusa that wasn't filled with good quality cheese and bad texture is too much. We also order 2 serving of platanos fritos con crema. As soon as they were delivered to our table I could tell the platanos were not ripped and weren't ready to be fried. We paid $80 for 7 pupusas, 2 order of fried plantains,and drinks. Also they didn't have horchata... which is something they should always have ... is very unique horchata so I just got a kolashampan. It was 3 of us including me. As a Salvadoran I really wanted to love this place but it needs alot more improvement. I took time to see photos posted from others and the pupupas edges came apart. There open. Should not be that way. I might give it a second change and try the regular masa instead. Replying back: Definitely not high quality items. As you can see how the cheese looks. The arroz arina has to be soft, there are know for that all over El Salvador. I was born there. I completely disagree with you...a pupusa has to be perfect! Specially if it is restaurant and many people come to try it out and think is authentic. The cheapeast pupusas de arroz I had tried in El Salvador were 3 for $1 at a lil shack pefectly round shaped handmade and filled with ingredients. There is not such thing as "machine made" beacuse if you use common sence... if you use a tortillera to make it "perfectly round"the filling will come out. You can't assure other wise.. if you did not see what we ate. The platain were not good they were hard and were not easy to cut with a fork. Don't make look like I have lied here.. I don't even mind paying what we paid but it needs it for sure needs improvement. read more

The food is just OK. I'm a HUGE pupusas lover so I wanted to try them, service was fine. I placed a Togo order the young guy was kind. I got 5 pupusas every kind except plain queso a lot of masa not enough cheese or filling. I also got yucca fries and it unfortunately had very dry and hard chicharrones, salsa was taco sauce no flavor or veggies in it. The curtido needed more oregano y vinagre. I pray they fix what needs to be fixed since they are fairly new and I am wishing this business nothing but blessings! read more
