Me and pupusas got a thing goin' on... And it's much too strong... To let it go nowwwww. Which is why an authentic Salvadoran restaurant is as prized as a golden goblet in my book, and the second my sister recommended this spot I zipped, whipped and glided like Usher in the "U Don't Have to Call" music video on over to check out the grub-a-dub. Mi Salvador definitely did not disappoint, serving up steaming hot pupusas alongside the staple curtido (the traditional delicious spicy cabbage slaw mixture) and tomato-based salsa roja sauce. The customer service here is great and the lovely women who assist whenever I call my order in are helpful and polite. "It'll be ready in 20 minutes" actually means it'll be ready in twenty minutes, no funny business, no shady unreliability. The restaurant can get busy with families and solo dolo diners trying to get their fix, so if you're fiending for a to-go fixin' I definitely suggest calling in so you don't have to wait. Since discovering this place a mere two weeks ago I've probably made more trips than I'm proud to divulge, but every visit has been more than worth it. They also stock a few Salvadoran food items and sweet treats, so look around and find something to grab for the fam. Or just grub and grab everything for yourself. I won't tell.

After all the ranting and raving, it was finally my turn. I didn't know for a while that "Pupusas" wasn't a "Mexican" dish, but an "El Salvadorian" dish. But when you think about most of the things we eat now in days, non of what we think is what it seems. "Mi Salvador" is pretty well known in my neck of the woods, and people on and off "Yelp" rave about what they have to offer. Some have even gone as far as to say that this establishment is the #1 spot for authentic food. I'm still new I guess to "El Salvadorian" food, a lot that I though I knew..I guess I don't. Here is what I did learn though.... Thursday July 26, 2018 Location: Mi Salvador Pittsburg, Ca People: 1 Adult Story: Well it was the calm before the storm for me, if you've read my previous reviews....you'll know why. I was hungry and I wanted to try somewhere I hadn't had before. I'm all about discovering and seeing what's new in my "hood" I been saying for a while to people that I needed to try "Mi Salvador", and lucky for me I was in the mood for "Pupusas" so after reading some reviews and looking at the menu on "Yelp" I decided to head on over and see what waz up. Service/Hospitality: It wasn't busy when I entered, but I was still greeted by a worker. The togo menu was in spanish and the worker helped me translate it. I told the worker (A lady) I had come here for the "Pupusas" and she helped me out by describing the different types to me. She was pleasant the whole time and I accomplished what I had come in for thanks to her. I would say this was a pretty good first impression and the service was pretty good. I was even offered some water while I sat and waited for my food, that's a pretty good touch. Food/Cleanliness: The establishment was pretty clean and very tidy, it wasn't busy so I feel that also contributed to the overall appearance. I went to the restroom here and it was very clean. Now on to the important stuff you in the "Yelpire" really want to know about.."The Food". I went with 5 "Pupusas", 4 of them being a different type. 1 Jalapeno and Cheese $$3.00 1 Bean and Cheese $2.75 2 Shrimp and Cheese $6.00 ($3.00 each) 1 Combo Pupusa (Pork/Chicharron, Cheese, Refried Beans) $2.75 Out of all the "Pupusas" the combo one was my favorite. All of them had a nice amount of filling and were super hot and fresh as I did wait the 25 min for them to be made. The Shrimp and Cheese ones were my least fave honestly out of what I ordered. They used those little baby shrimp in these ones and they didn't really mesh well with the overall dish. The bean and cheese, jalapeno and cheese both were good and simple. The combo pupusa or "Pupusa Reveuelta" was the perfect balance and honestly, I think what would maybe my go to at this establishment for my "Pupusa" needs. I feel like the prices are reasonable for what you're getting, I really would step out on a limb and say these are some of the best i've had in a while. Overall: I think "Mi Salvador" is the real deal, I look forward to trying more of what they have have to offer. As far as the getting my "Pupusa" fix, this now will be my go to place, lucky for me it isn't too far from home. I would recommend this place to anyone, if you like what I like then you wouldn't be disappointed here. This place has lived up to the hype and praise it gets on "Yelp" and the word of mouth rants and raves I've heard from various sources. So, if you come here for the "Pupusas" I warn you of the habit that may be forming.

Recently came here with my mother as I live overseas and Salvadorian food is pretty much non-existent where I live so I was dying for some pupusas. No one was there to greet us but as soon as we walked in and sat down, we had someone greet us and gave us the menus. I ordered two pupusas with some fried plantains on the side and my mom got some rice flour pupusas with some milk empanadas. No complaints on the food; it was great! Not as great as my mom's but came pretty close. Plus they have a type of mini-market of a few foods from El Salvador such as several types of snacks, Salvadorian sour cream, cheese, etc. service wasn't terrible but wasn't above and beyond either. It either way, I'd come back here; it was great.

    Horchata? I don't think so...
    Jennifer B.

Went here twice. The chicken and jalapeño pupasus were good, but both times they ran out card 4 times trying to process the order. We also got some chicken tamales which were really big, but were 90% masa. We got three horchatas and they were really gross. None of us could drink more that a sip. When we dumped them out the cup was full of sludge...

Out of the 2, I think the carne was my favorite as I could taste more of the filling flavor. The salsa was good but I think the curtido could have used longer fermenting to give it a little more tang. The combo comes with a small side of rice and beans. Both had good flavors but the rice was cold and the beans were too thin for my liking. The beans had more of the consistency of a thin soup which I was expecting more of a chowder. The staff was friendly in greeting and taking my order. Service is slow but expected as good pupusas take time. My issue for my first time visiting was figuring out their system. I wasn't sure if they bring you a check or you go to the register when you're done. At the end of my meal I waited quite a bit after finishing my meal to see if they'd bring a check to me but ultimately just went up to the register after I felt like I sat there longer than I felt comfortable and just wanted to head home. Not sure if that's the correct process or not still.

I've had a struggle finding things in the Pitt without seeming like a spoiled brat lol . This morning i was really craving pupusas . I follow a few foodies from the area on instagram and yessys always pops up for pizza and pupusas ! So I said F it let's give them a try . Pulling up it is located inside of laraza market which is next door to the gas station . Kind of a convenient one stop shop if you ask me :) there's parking infront of the store . When you walk inside they have a few tables for eating nothing fancy . I ordered a bean and cheese and pork and cheese pupusa . They said about ten minutes which I don't mind because I know they're making it fresh right there . I went to the market side , grabbed my squirt , sat in my car , played like 2 songs and went back in . They were ready to go . I don't live too far . So when I got home they were still piping hot ! Packaged nicely ( the sauce and cortido of course was in bags but that's how I'm used to it lol ) they were yummy ! Dough wasn't too thick . The cheese pull was pretty nice and it was the perfect balance of the pork with the cheese and beans not one taking over the other . Pork had great flavor as well as the beans . Their cortido lacked a little of that tang I look for but besides that . 10/10 I think I found my pupusa spot out here . They serve more than pupusas so I'll have to come back and try their pizza I've heard they make good New York pizzas and you can order by the slice plus other items as well . Don't knock it till you try it and I'm saying come try it !
