Billy Walker was a lifesaver. We had a pesky ceiling leak for almost a year and have hired multiple people to try to diagnose the origin - everyone just assumed it was the flat roof and wanted to charge $5K - $10K to replace. Billy took the time to discuss with me on the phone and when he came out, he was extremely detail oriented and his intuition was confirmed - it was the cornice gutter and not the flat roof! I'm surprised no one's left a review of these folks before -- they are TOP NOTCH! Alan did our inspection of a recently "flipped" home and did not miss a beat. He caught everything from loose wires, missing lightbulbs, jiggly toilets and cabinets that opened into each other to larger items like improper grading in the yard (potentially causing basement flooding) and missing caps on chimneys. He spent 3+ hours with us and never once checked his watch. This guy is a home buyers dream, and a home sellers nightmare! read more

Bill Walker inspected my home prior to closing on it. I was buying a fixer-upper with 40 years of neglect, so there was more wrong with it than was right with it. Bill spent a long time at the house and poured over every detail. Not only did Bill point out a lot of things I wasn't seeing, but he gave me great advice on what should be my priority, what will be expensive, what won't be expensive. He even got on the roof twice to check things out (not easy to get up there). We've purchased three properties in the course of 14 years (one an investment condo) and each time had Claxton Walker inspect our homes. The first two times Skip Walker did the inspection, on the third property we had Billy. Each time we were very happy. Their inspectors are very thorough and knowledgeable. They spent a lot of time with us, walking us thru the issues, letting us know what might be an issue over time if we didn't eventually address is. We got detailed reports on each home, a list of things that were required to be repaired before we moved in, a list of things that somewhere down the line we'd have to keep an eye on. I've recommended them to several friends buying homes and I know many agents who use them as their go-to inspection company. I would never use another company to inspect a home that I am about to purchase. This company is fantastic. I'm surprised by the negative review given to them by Ed E. I have to assume that he wasn't an active participant in the inspection process. You don't get to ask for new windows on an old home just because they open/close with difficulty. And there's no way for an inspector to predict when an a/c unit is about to die. read more

We had a bad experience. First mistake, went with recommendation from our real estate agent. Two guys and they spent about 4 hours at the house, then wrote up a detailed report, but first 5 pages are all legal disclaimers. We moved in, then started finding all the things that they missed. Windows not closing properly, AC old and had to be replaced within a few months. Just one thing after another, and we've fixed/replaced each... but as we did, I thought... how could those guys have missed this. Frustrating. And they are very expensive. read more

I chose this company because they aren't affiliated with any contractors or realtors, which in my book gives me more peace of mind than using someone recommended to you by someone who has a vested interest in you making a purchase. I was very happy with Alan's home inspection. He was super thorough, knew his stuff really well, and then emailed me a full report with pictures and details on how to address any issues. I am about as far from handy as you can be, so I appreciated the time he took to explain basic home maintenance to me and how to fix minor issues to improve the value of the home. He spent almost 2 hours inspecting every corner of a 2 bedroom condo even though it was a flat rate, so I feel pretty confident that he did an extensive and thorough inspection. read more

He gave me run down of all the problems the house I wanted to buy had, gave me an idea of what the costs might be, and how I should prioritize them.
