Chicken Livers with onions and apples

One of the hidden Gems of Somerset!! Located right off the circle, Clay Haus is a quaint German style restaurant serving up seriously delicious food! The chicken tender basket was delightful. The perfect ratio of breading to chicken, cooked perfectly! The chicken was juicy and tender! The slaw was creamy and delicious as well. The chicken livers were some of the best that I have had. The flavor of the onions and apples give this dish lovely flavor and texture combinations! The liver was cooked perfectly! The restaurant is small, so getting a table may require a wait, but the food will be worth it!

I love the decor! The staff is SO kind and helpful! The food was very yummy. I love the pies baked fresh daily. We'll definitely be back.

Yum! Yum! It hit the spot and such a reasonable price for a German restaurant!!!!! My waitress was super friendly and helped me navigate the menu and what to order. (It all sounded so good). In our party, we ordered the meatloaf and chicken and noodle lunch special. It was delicious! Hearty! Truly hit the spot! While we didn't have enough room for dessert... we ordered anyway . Apple pie, German chocolate cake and the snickers cheese cake were delicious! The quaint atmosphere and lovely decor was added bonus! Come hungry

Truly an excellent experience. Home style cooking in a colonial inn atmosphere. The liver and onions are a treat. Good soup and salad bar and a fabulous Sunday buffet with fried chicken, homemade noodles, real mashed potatoes, yummy gravy, and lots of other goodies to choose. The desserts are made from scratch using in season fruits...and the walnut pie is mouth watering good. Lots of other choices on the menu including prime rib on Friday nights. Now has a Rathskeller in the original first floor with a full bar and craft beers. Gotta try this one!

Wow. This little restaurant is a total GEM! Its located in. Historic building and there are antiques and old photographs all over the walls. It's out in the middle of no where. My coworkers and I were in the area and stumbled upon Clay Haus in Somerset. Wonderful food. Wonderful service. They have daily specials of items not on the menu. We were there for lunch on a weekday. The food was delicious! Very fresh. The service was friendly, helpful and courteous. I plan to bring my 86 year old mom here who has traveled to Germany (among many other places around the world). She is going to love it and you would too. I highly recommend this restaurant!

Atmosphere and food were wonderful. Reminded me of my German grandmas cooking. Absolutely delicious, what a gem!

Authentic German food. Great place. I was disappointed that they're main dish was unavailable that day. Chicken livers were great.

That solution was found here- a delicious bowl of steaming hot homemade cauliflower and cheese soup. And I paired that with an incredible grilled cheese. The soup was thick and creamy, with plenty of cauliflower in a rich, thick soup. It was the best I have ever had and if it was an all you could eat deal - I would still be there eating! I felt like I was sitting in a warm country kitchen. The place was decorated tastefully and warmly for the season. I will have to come back and check out their other soups. I loved the whole experience here and think I will come here often!! And the service was as warm and friendly as the atmosphere! Hats off to this comfort food jewel!

So after a quick Yelp search of lunch near me, the first hit was Olde Towne Cafe and Inn which had five stars. I decided to check it out. I have to say I drove right past it! I was expecting for something a bit more store-fronty this really looks like a house and I missed their signage. I turned around on Rail Street... got distracted at Porters but within five minutes was back on track to Olde Towne. They have a small parking lot which had a space, so I eagerly parked and popped i side. It is super cute. Very farm house-ish. Definitely a old house converted i to a bed and breakfast with most of the downstairs rooms dining. The kitchen can be seen from the room I sat in. It looked very clean and organized. I browsed the menu and decided on pancakes. They are served with bacon or sausage.... Im not a huge meat eater so I chose bacon and crumbled up on the pancake.... Ended up pushing it off the pancake and not eating it. Not their fault. Bacon is fine but Im just liking bacon less and less. Today was a no bacon day. Lol. However the pancakes! Wowzers. Huge. Fluffy. i got two that were each almost as big as the oblong platter they were served on. I couldnt finish all of it. They were delicious. I see why people give this place a good rating. The staff was welcoming and make you feel at home. Its just a good old fashioned breakfast/lunch spot. Not bougie at all... which to me is a plus "not" to be bougie. Sometimes you just need a place that feels like home. This is that place.

Olde Dutch Restaurant in Logan -- so many people hyped this place up that we had to check it out…read more It's buffet style with all-you-can-eat salad bar, soups, hot dishes, and pies. Drinks are extra, and there's also a small $1-2 supplemental fee added on, which felt a little odd since it could probably just be included in the buffet price. The food itself is very classic home-style comfort food with lots of options. Nothing super fancy or out of the ordinary, but everything tasted fresh and the buffet was constantly being refilled every few minutes. We also got the iced sweet teas, which seemed to be really popular since almost every table had one. One unique thing -- the entrance and exit are through the gift shop, and you also pay there at the end of your meal, which definitely adds to the old-school country restaurant experience. Our waitress was attentive and friendly throughout the meal, too. Overall, worth the stop for the experience and comforting homemade-style food while visiting Logan.

This place was hopping but somehow everything flowed smoothly. We tried a little bit of everything- chicken and noodles, salad, stewed tomatoes, asparagus, has brown casserole, pie, etc. my husband seemed to really enjoy their fried chicken. They also offer a menu you can order from a la carte. The buffet was so extensive that we ended up sticking with it. I only hold off on the fifth star because some of the food was over salted and/or overcooked (especially the veggies- asparagus, cauliflower, etc).

We were able to buy a jar of horseradish to take back home to TX. We bought a vanilla cream puff and a chocolate one. After coming out of our food coma we had the vanilla puff and it was great. We first visited the information center where they showed a short video about how the German settlers came to Columbus. Before leaving, we asked where we should eat for a true German experience. The person there immediately recommended Schmidt's Sausage Haus, saying there were other good places, but Schmidt's was the place for authentic German food. We walked over and were seated right away. Our server greeted us and returned quickly to take our drink order. We both had iced tea. He also told us about the buffet and suggested we take a look before ordering. We checked it out, but it just didn't appeal to us that evening, so we ordered from the menu instead. My wife ordered the potato soup, and I ordered the Old World Sausage Sampler: "A combination of four sausages from famous recipes of the J. Fred Schmidt Packing Company served over hot kraut und pork with German potato salad, chunky applesauce, und split top bun." When the food arrived, it looked amazing. I honestly don't remember exactly which four sausages they were, but every one of them was excellent. The sauerkraut had great flavor, and the warm German potato salad was outstanding. The applesauce was good too, although I personally prefer smooth over chunky. I actually mixed some of the applesauce with the sauerkraut and really enjoyed that combination. For dessert, we took a couple items to go. My wife had the cream cheese tort with cherry topping, and I had the famous cream puff. The tort was okay, but the crust wasn't my favorite and the cream cheese filling was just average to me. The cream puff was definitely better. The shell was perfectly done and the filling was good, although I was hoping for a little more rich vanilla custard flavor. I think a chocolate topping would have made it even better. Later I found out they also offer a chocolate version, but our server never mentioned that option. Our server was very friendly throughout the meal. The only small thing that became a little repetitive was him saying "All right, all right, all right" after every item we ordered. Overall though, we really enjoyed our experience and were glad we stopped. The sausage and German potato salad were especially memorable, and I'm honestly considering ordering some of their sausage and potato salad shipped to us this summer.
