    Restaurant Hunters Goat
    Dick G.

Bon G and I have been hankering for the delish taste and aroma of Indian fare. We had scoped out Clay Oven on Yelp awhile ago and decided to give them a whirl last Tuesday. Its located in a large shopping center in Coram right off Middle Country Road. Upon entering we were greeted by the owner and host Lubna.. Such a nice lady, who engaged us in conversation. We expressed our desire to try homey Desi Indian food. She explained various dishes and gave us a appy of Chaat which was incredibly delsh! For mains we got the Restaurant Hunters Goat and an off the menu Lamb dish which was also tasty and wonderful. Lubna can sub any protein with any dish to your likeing as well as the level of burn. We enjoyed the Chaat so much we took one home for later! Cant wait to return to eat the whole menu!!Thanks Lubna for such a wonderful eating experience...

    Paneer makhani

I too am a big fan of chef and owner Lubna and had frequently visited her last Clay Oven establishment at Selden. So it was such a joy to hear from the owner via Yelp that she has now opened a new location in Coram. While the drive is a bit farther for me, certainly I wouldn't miss this opportunity to taste her delicious food once again. We were there for their soft opening mid August. Walking in, you can tell the size of the restaurant is a tad larger and parking lot is ample. I ordered shrimp peri peri stew in which the shrimp was fresh and prepared in this peri peri chutney sauce. My wife got the baingan bhurta which was eggplant cooked with onion in tomato gravy. Both portions are satisfying and came with a large plate of rice. My son got the paneer makhani and the owner knew and remembered that my son loved the large size cheese cubes. We also got 1 nann. The price is certainly reasonable. All in all, fantastic food and amazing wait service. Can't wait to go back and really hoping they have buffet selection soon.

The atmosphere is so cozy and inviting, and the service is great. The woman who helped us (Lubna?) was so warm. And with the prices on point, I'm definitely going to be back a lot. I'm hitting this place up for takeout, too. I tired the Gulab jamun dessert for the first time, and was really happy with it. They're described as "fried cheese balls," so I was expecting something crispy or crunchy, but that's not the case. They're fried so delicately that the crust is extremely thin and soft. They're nice and light and refreshing for a dessert.

Lunch special! So much food for 10$!!

When we entered, the gentleman taking our order seems lackadaisical and had to clarify a few times about the contents of my order. Please keep this in mind, only one other customer waiting with me and it took over 30 minutes to receive my order for just two platters. Finally received my order and that was just the start of my poor dining experience. Me and father couldn't eat in peace because there's an abundance of flies that's absolutely ridiculous and keep flying around our food and the entire restaurant! I spent half my time shooing away flies from our food. Now let's get to the quality of food. I ordered a mixed Platter and I can't express how highly disappointed I am. The lamb and chicken was very tough and chewy, it's the first time in awhile I didn't finish my meal. Also when compared to other similar halal platters, it's noticeably less than what you get. I will give credit their whiting fish is surprisingly good. Last but not least, it's not worth the price at all. I ordered 2 platters, 2 bottles soft drinks and side of pita and everything came up $31 and that's pricey for what you're getting (less food) and disappointing quality.

TLDR: Better than Shahs/H&M. Beware of the red sauce (it's hot hot)…read more Probably one of the better halal spots you can find on the Suffolk LI area (without having to travel deep into Queens). Go here if you are looking for quick, delicious, and cheap halal food. Ambiance is mid, only because there were these ginormous bugs chilling/flying inside the store. Otherwise, it was pretty clean. Workers/owners are super friendly and very accommodating. Let's get to the food....: Falafelina over rice: YES. A place that finally does the falafels right!!! They are actually crispy, unlike local competitors such as Shahs and Hamza and Medina which are soggy. The owners said that they are cooked and made fresh, and not frozen. OP. They offer side salad such as chickpeas, black beans, and lettuce. The white sauce was normal + red sauce was very spicy. Great job. 8/10. Combo over rice: Friend said it was pretty good. No complaints. 7/10. Lamb gyro: Also no complaints. 7/10. Come try it out!

Nah, we're all the way out east in Lake Ronkonkoma for this Halal action with Hamza & Madina rockin' their combo plate. My fiancée and I recently ventured over to this spot to grab some dinner and we were hit with just what the food cart customer ordered. Well, that's the thing about this Hamza. It's an actual brick and mortar place! I mean it's not massive, but you could totally sit and dive right into your Halal after ordering it. For us, we took it to go as per the usual experience (it's super close to our new abode, but it's nice to know we could sit if needed). What's also pleasantly nice was the employee who helped us. He was relatively friendly and liked that I knew of the original Hamza cart. I'll say he was a tad pushy at the end trying to get us to buy some drinks and/or dessert, but otherwise the guy was a fine chap. What was also fine (or beyond fine!) was the food. This chicken and lamb combo platter was exactly like the ones we were used to having. Tender meat, creamy white sauce, a little kick from the red/hot sauce, and great flavor from first to last bite. I do have to say that Halal Guys' red sauce just packs a better punch (and their pita on the side is a nice touch too), but Hamza is still superb. The only mild downer compared to the food cart is the price. Things still came in it at a cheap total (under $20), but that's a bit more than the cart itself. Plus no free drink along with your combo which was a bit of a bummer (even if not needed). Overall, this Hamza & Madina location in Ronkonkoma is deliciously delightful. It's got the exact same tastes as the original food cart which gives this New Hyde Park-raised fella a touch of home that's not too far from my new home in Ronk. I'm looking forward to many more white-sauce-doused meals from this green and blue Halal building.
