Recent orders from the Newark store have been disappointing. A small cheesesteak is now $14. And is not as full as it once was. My mom got fish and chips and it only had one small fillet. I have enjoyed my food from there in the past. But I will not be ordering there anymore after today. 2 small cheesesteaks and fish and chips with tip and delivery almost $60. it's just not worth it anymore. I am in town for work and had someone with me who was from Texas. He hoped to get a cheesesteak before he went home. I passed this place and went without checking the reviews. The building looks really nice so we gave it a try. I ordered a Claymont cheesesteak with mushrooms, onions, banana peppers and wiz, with a side of cheese fries. The large cheesesteak was huge (quantity is the only reason for 2 stars). The steak had no seasoning so it was dry and flavorless, cheese wiz is yellow, I had to look for it and wasn't sure they put it on at first. Cheese helps keep the steak in the bun and there was so little that I ate more of this sandwich with a for than my hands. Mushrooms and onions were very light also. The cheese fries had plenty of cheese on them though, most places skimp on the cheese fries. My new friend was very disappointed in his first cheesesteak and I was not happy at all with mine. However, having an enormous pile of unseasoned beef with barely any cheese at all kind of misses the point of a cheesesteak. It's a compound word, that implies to the people asking for it to have both steak AND cheese. In fact, the main flavor in this cheesesteak was hot, dry, unseasoned beef. The phone service was absolutely unacceptable. My mom had so much trouble ordering food because the person on the other end could not understand us. When we got there, they still messed up our order even though my Mom had to sit there for an hour on the phone (that's what it felt like) trying to explain everything. Even when we asked for condiments on the side, they still drowned our cheesesteaks with condiments. The cheesesteaks have barely any meat in them. When we got there, the manager had to come over and literally watch the guy and fix everything. That guy really needs either more training or should stick to the kitchen area, someone with this much difficulty with customers and taking orders should not be in customer service. I don't understand the hype around this place. My coworkers order from here sometimes, but overall, Main Street has so much more to offer. read more

I should have trusted my instinct and canceled my takeout order when I saw a dead cockroach in the bathroom. But between the hassle of canceling and me trying to tell myself, "There's a drain in the floor; it doesn't have to mean the place is nasty," I didn't. Instead, I left with two pizzas and a slice of strawberry cheesecake. My kids and I ate the pizza, then when I went to stick a candle in the cheesecake for my daughter's 7th birthday, I saw that it had mold all over one side. She got it delivered, and it wasn't pizza so it was different. The steak was some what dry, the bread was saggy and kind of chewy. It wasn't anything out of the ordinary but the fact that the fries were thick cut, made the difference. The driver came on time and was pretty nice. The pepper cheese steak was delicious and looks pretty tasty with the green peppers, but it was about the same both sandwiches had though bread. In there defense it could have been the condensation could have made that happen, I would have to give this place another try when COVID is over. Loved the fries and the cheese what tasteful. Poor customer service. The staff was rude and hung up on me when I asked for a partial refund. Food was left sitting outside in the cold for approximately an hour because the driver never texted me that it was there even though my order said to text on arrival. I was basically called a liar and was told that there was no mention of asking for a text on the order. Staff explained that's what I get with contactless delivery! Grubhub gave me a full refund. Cheesesteak wasn't all that great and they added too much pepper. $7.50 delivery fee to travel 5 miles down the road is ridiculous. Disappointed. Do not buy the Claymont cheese steak from here at Newark Delaware. Only buy from Claymont DE. I asked to hold the lettuce and put my hot peppers on the side. The cashier charged me three dollars for toppings that were included in the price. When I asked why he said I had to pay for the little side container. When I got home with the sandwiches, there was little steak, no onions, no sweet peppers, no Mayo, no ketchup, no onions, no cheese, wilted tomato slice. It was the worst I have ever had. Also, they put lettuce on the sandwich anyway and charged me 3.00 dollars for toppings that already comes with the sandwich. I should get reimbursed, but it is too far away. I Ordered a sandwich via their website was directed delivery . The delivery took an hour and a half . When the hour marker hit we called them to see where the food was. They notified us that it was on its way. I happened to only be visiting Delaware so I didn't know the location was only 10 min away until I looked it up. When my sandwich arrived it was cold i called the claymont stake shop and the acted as if nothing was wrong. I notified them that I would be come to exchange my sandwhich for a new one. The manager acted as if it was my fault that sandwhich was cold. Between 3 of us we ordered Steak chz and peppersonions sub, Turkey sub, Ham n' cheese sub and 2 slices of cheese pizza. I had just got off of my flight for 5 hours and decided I wanted a steak sandwich for dinner. I live in Delaware and the Claymont location is sort of on my way home to Middletown. I ordered my sandwich over the phone as I picked up my vehicle and was told it would be ready in 20 minutes. I arrived at the shop around 40 minutes after calling and was told the steak was not ready yet. I waited for another 20 minutes and then asked about the status to which I was told they had no record of my order. I went back to the cashier who scrambled trying to find my ticket because I paid him directly. He couldn't find the ticket and after 10 minutes I said if it's a problem with making my sandwich you can reimburse me. He quickly did something on the computer and gave me a receipt and said my card would be credited a refund. I never got a sandwich! What pissed me off the most is that I drove there, waited and never got a Sandwich. The time it took him to look for the receipt and credit me back, they could've just made the sandwich. I left hungry and then stopped at Milan's cheesesteaks in bear a black owned restaurant and quickly got an amazing sandwich. As a black professional woman, I try to support all small businesses but I will not support Claymont steaks at this location any longer. They lost a customer due to poor customer service.
