Read before you judge the ketchup there is an explanation- i been going to Riviera Pizza in Fox Run since 1992 it's always been consistent, never outstanding just a little better than average it's been my favorite FOREVER...not the best just my favorite. So we went yesterday i got double meat, double cheese, fried no onions. sh got a monstrosity...pickles, mayo, fried onions, ketchup and lettuce for some reason...now take note i said double meat....we ate inside there and they brought out the sandwiches with the exact same amount of meat???? hers was ruined by the ingredients she wanted on it so i'll stick to mine. as you can see by the pics it's atrocious looking....not only didn't they incorporate the cheese and steak but they didn't even bother to melt the cheese on the steak NOR did they bother to season the steak....overcooked the shit out of it...big huge inconsistently cooked onions some cooked some not...bread fell apart when you pick it up...so the reason there is ketchup on this atrocious sandwich is it had zero flavor and was dry as the dust bowl in Wizard of Oz! 1.4/10 worst experience with a steak there in 33 years read more

Chicken cheese steak was inedible. So dry, chicken was burnt, brown, worse than beef Jerry. I called to complain and ask for a refund for a sandwich that my dog refused to eat. That was 6 hours ago. I'll be returning the bacteria ridden sandwich tomorrow and I better get my money back, otherwise I will be called the FDA. The food is very good! The people are nice. The prices are fair and reasonable. The Stromboli was sensational!

I just wanted a cheese steak, have to go through a 3% surcharge to use a credit card but they don't tell you when you place the order, then they want you to add a tip on the next screen. Sandwich had half the steak it used to and price was $5 higher than online price listed. If its an outdated menu, you need to remove it and advise customers of credit card fees on purchases. Riviera has been our "go to" favorite. However, we ordered yesterday and so disappointed. The sandwiches were SKIMPY. They use to be packed!! My Rivera Special Italian sub was sad, super THIN slices of meat, forgot to add the cheese, it was so lacking that I could fold my sub in half, I usually can't close it to get my mouth around it. We also ordered a roast beef sub too and again THIN, just one very thin layer of roast beef and the cheese was thin too, "see through" thin. It too could be closed and folded in half. The cheesesteak that was ordered no complaints and it came with fries. Needless to say I doubt we will continue coming here, Wawa's subs are better for the value and have MEAT!! I got a large special cheesesteak. It came with fried onions, mushrooms and green peppers. My immediate concern upon opening the wrapper was it is a skinny cheesesteak. The grill man put a good amount of oil on this cheesesteak and it was evenly hot throughout the whole cheesesteak. It had a good amount of extras but they needed to spend a lot more time on the grill getting to know each other. The cheese was okay but I think it needed a couple more slices. read more

Great for grab and go slices, a good variety of flavors and the slices are a great size and reasonably priced. The white pizza with the broccoli, tomato and ricotta was delicious and is my current fave, but the barbecue chicken and Sicilian is also great. Horrible experience!!! Food was nasty! The ravioli was swimming in a tasteless sause and hard melter cheese, some of the ravioli were hard some chewy and cold on the inside. The soup was not hot, the salad was sad looking. When the waitress asked how everything was and we told her, she went back to ask to take the ravioli off the bill, she came right back with the bill that included the ravioli, so they didn't even care to resolve the issue. We paid 60 dollars and didn't even eat the wings because they were soaked in oil. On top of it all, the whole time it felt like we were being g rushed. Food was subpar. Ordered lasagna and had them add two sausages on the side. The lasagna was watery, sauce lacked flavor and the two sausages was actually one sausage split in half and I was given one of those halves that was then cut in half I guess to make two! This is a great local spot for a calzone or a stromboli! I always get a calzone with ricotta and mozzarella and tomato sauce on the side with cheese fries. This is another go-to spot for ordering out on a weeknight. Food is always hot and fresh with very generous portions. read more

I have been visiting Riviera for years. I ordered 2 pizza turnovers. Online it says the price is $6.95 each. When I arrived to pick up my food tonight, they rang it in for 11.99 EACH!!! When I inquired about the price difference, this elderly woman behind the counter pointed to a hand written sign taped to the counter, which was being blocked by items on the counter, advising prices had gone up. I paid and left politely. I'm in totally shock that they marked up the price by $5, didn't have any announcement online , and they didn't offer to give me the items for the price I expected to pay based on the online menu they provide. I called in the order, they didn't even bother to advise that prices have gone up. Needless to see, I'm never going back after being a loyal customer for 15 years. They could have offered at least to discount the price because the inconvenience was caused by the lack of courtesy and failing to update there online menu, which I imagine most people use to make their orders. They make pretty good pizza which is balanced with a sauce that's not too sweet and not too tangy, it's just right. I normally just get a cheese with extra sauce and that's my go to. Haven't tried anything else on their menu as of yet and not really sure if I will. My brother put me on to this spot when I asked him who makes a good pizza in DE. Only thing I don't like about here is, over the weekend I guess the older lady that normally be at the register is off so it's another younger woman taken orders and she must have problems hearing when I told her loud and clear as day extra sauce twice cause the 2nd time I said " You know, Extra sauce for the pizza to eat" like so she could comprehend if she already failed at understanding. But as I received my pizza, there was no extra sauce and I was pissed cause the other woman always get my simple order right. Had a horrible experience as a first time customer! I ordered and paid over he phone the girl told me 25mins and it took me 25 mins to get there ! When I get there they tell me 20 more mins ! The mozzarella sticks were awesome here. The pizza was pretty good but nothing special. Did not like all the grease covering the pizza but hey that's what you get when you order a pepperoni pizza ! Ugh. Starting to be a hit or miss with this place. Pizza has been disappointing lately. Beef pepperoni is about a $5 add on . They barely add it on. My more recent experience was yesterday when I ordered a large pizza and felt it was on the light side so I opened the box. The pizza was the size of a medium one but in a big box. I guess everyone had tricks of the trade now. Every time i order with them, i find myself calling ahead asking them to not do something that they did wrong on previous orders. The cheesesteak was spectacular! The roll was nice and fresh/soft. The meat tasted fresh and the onions were caramelized to perfection. The Buffalo wings were too wet. I didn't actually get to stop by the place, but was treated to take out pizza from them. Heard from friends that the facility is clean and the staff friendly and helpful. The pizza was a normal size, not gigantic or small. The crust was crisp and thin with a soft center. Has a nice oven baked taste and texture to it. The tomato sauce was fairly standard. Mushrooms tasted like they came from a can, but no metallic taste, but a bit one dimensional. The white pizza with mozzarella, spinach, and garlic was the start of the order. mozzarella was creamy, soft, and warm. It was not separated and oily at all. The spinach was soft and easily chewed, not stringy or fibrous. A mild garlic flavor permeated the pizza without being overpowering or harsh. Instead it was a mild nutty and clean garlic taste. Overall good pizza, the white was better then the standard. I have had some that were better, but I have had many that were worse. read more

We were in Bear long enough to eat twice, once for pizza on our way to White Clay State Park and once for family cheese steak night. My brother in law finally had a cheese steak that was large enough with your 14 inch large and Italian friend, Mike, said the Sicilian pizza was perfect. My broccoli pizza was really good and felt like a healthy choice. We all thought the flavor of the cheese steaks beat the local chains hands down. And your fries are pretty good as well. Best pizza in Northern DE; haven't had anything we didn't love yet. This is the only pizzeria we order from!

Strip malls often contain the best places. My favorite Chinese place for years was nestled in a strip mall. So when I pulled up to this place I could tell I was in for something good. This place is what I imagine good northern pizza joints are like. Small, warm, smelling pleasantly of baking dough and various other ingredients, a cook diligently pounding out pizzas. Riviera Pizza was exactly like this. I walk in and the lady working the register is having a conversation with a regular. They pause to take my order. They both help me through my selection which ended up being a special steak (mushrooms, onions, and peppers). We bantered for a few minutes and then I received my sandwich. It was great. The flavors were magnificent. It was perhaps one of the best cheese steak sandwiches I've ever eaten. It was perfect. The meat was seasoned to perfection and though I was offered ketchup, I needed none. It was juicy but not overly so or greasy. The vegetables still had a bit of a crisp to them. It was just good. If you find yourself in the Newark, Delaware area, take a minute and check this place out. I highly doubt you'll be sorry. read more

The tomato sauce has the right level of sweetness and tanginess; I was less impressed with the white pizza I tried. The staff are friendly, and I get the sense that there are a lot of regular customers. One cook knew by name several of the people who came in. By the way, this is not Italian-style pizza! Whichever other reviewer said that bit about "pizza made by real Italians" doesn't know what they're talking about. I have been going here with my family for years. I live by a lot of pizza places and still drive down to Fox Run to get pizza. Riviera Pizza is my favorite pizza place. Back to update, we decided to give them another shot because their pizza is REALLY good. We were pleased to discover that it seems that Mr. Crankypants has learned to maintain his chill. There is a lady there now, which I assume to be his daughter(?) and it seems like she is trying to get them back on track. We have been back a few times since and the pizza is still amazing! When we moved here one of the first orders of business was to find a great local pizza alternative to all the chains in the area. Turns out, we didn't have to look too far before we found this gem! Sure, it's more expensive than a chain, but it's so worth it! Their regular level of cheese is like everyone else's "extra cheese" and the crust is always crisp on the edges, chewy in the middle. My current favorite topping is spinach with ricotta cheese; they are smart enough to steam the fresh baby spinach before putting it on the pizza, so it retains its flavor without drying out. Small grievance, they used canned mushrooms (how hard is it to slice fresh?) and the meatballs have a weird flavor, but other than that I have yet to find a combination of toppings I don't like. read more
