I needed the flowers next day and it was already 3pm yet Nicole took my request with patience and listened to my vision/ideas. I was able to order flowers and a balloon on the same day and was assured it would get there. Since I am out of state I appreciate Lisa letting me know she was waiting on her flower order to come in but they would get them out the same day. I assume when one decides to become a Florist, they expect Valentine's Day to be their busiest day of the year. I also assume that when said Florist decides to work with an online ordering service, such as Teleflora, they expect (and hope) sales will increase. I went to Business school, but I'm pretty sure even my dog understands and would agree with these assumptions. My husband ordered two bouquets of flowers for me for Valentine's Day (2012). One was red roses, from him, and the other was purple Tulips, from my 15 month old son. Sweet, right? I think so too, which is why when this sweet, kind hearted guy was visibly (and vocally) disappointed, then distraught, and finally angry when my Tulips did not arrive with my roses, I was sad too. The gesture was enough for me, but he was so excited for them to arrive, that it broke my heart, for him, when they didn't. Fast forward to February 15th, and Teleflora has wait times 20+ minutes long (guess other mom's didn't get their Tulips either!), and emails are not being returned. The day passes and then CRASH! We run to the front door to see what our dogs have gotten into now......yes, it happened....my Tulips had finally been delivered. LEFT ON THE FRONT PORCH WHILE WE WERE HOME! No one bothered to ring the doorbell. Apparently they decided that since they were already 24 hours late, it would be cool if our dogs just ate them.....and the glass vase. My husband spent 20 minutes outside washing our one dog's mouth out (which was filled with glass) and cleaning up the remnants of what were once my Tulips.....Oh, and they weren't purple. After calling and complaining (using not my nicest choice of words), I was assured I would receive a full refund, as many other complaining customers were getting. Nice! I appreciate the refund, but regret having to force it. A professional service provider would have called when they flowers weren't delivered on time, apologized and after delivering the flowers in a timely manner, still given a refund. read more

Ordered flowers through FTD for my wife for Valentines Day. They delivered the flowers on the 15th and what was delivered was NO WHERE NEAR CLOSE to what i ordered. I ordered a "Better" type of arrangement and what they delivered was grossly inadequate for what i paid for. They do not respond to emails and phone calls from FTD. I have made my 3rd call in 5 days to FTD and still no response from these folk. If i could rate them a negative 3 i would. Stay away. read more

I'm surprised to see the other reviews here. My dad sent me flowers for Valentine's Day from this florist. Not sure if he ordered directly from them or if they were just the ones who filled the order, but my arrangement is GORGEOUS. It's also lasted much longer than arrangements I have gotten in the past! They looked as nice as the day I got them for a week, and now a week and a half later only the roses have wilted, the rest still looks beautiful. I'm very impressed!! read more

My Mothers Day flowers were delivered on Monday at 9:00 pm. I felt sorry for my Son who let me know earlier in the day that I would receive flowers. Late Sunday I sent him a text to let him know they never arrived.He then received a text Monday around 3:00 that they where on their way. I cant describe how awful this arrangement is, all daisies a few almost dead carnations, and one rose. They are all stuffed into a small bud vase! I was in the floral business for a few years and this is far from professional. Just a small hint, when ordering flowers don't go through a national co. I used this florist recently, and must say that they gave me a pretty arrangement at a more reasonable price than other local florists -- but the flowers did not last for very long. The arrangement looked nice for a couple days, and then it faded pretty quickly. Even though I'd recommend them to someone who wants something a little more economical than one of the Clayton florists, I have to say that the experience could have been better. read more

I didn't have a customer service issue, the girl who helped me was really nice. I guess I'm just confused about what they do. I just needed a small bouquet of any kind of flower for a casual flower giving occasion. I sort of expected to be able to walk in and pick one out from a cooler of ready made bouquets. But they don't do that here. They are more of a special order place I suppose. Is that my fault for assuming that? Or would other people think that? Regardless....I waited for a while before anyone came to the front to help me. And there was no bell or other way to get anyone's attention. And they had one ready made bouquet of tulips that was kind of sad looking and cost me $27. I saw some other lovely flowers through the display window and inquired but was told they were for a wedding. Which is fine, but the contrast of those beautiful flowers made my only bouquet option seem even sadder. We were in a hurry or I would have gone elsewhere. Maybe they are good for an event, but not for your everyday floral needs. read more

This was our 3rd try with this florist. My husband knows now, NEVER order from City Florist in Clayton. He sent the latest arrangement for our 35th anniversary. He told me he paid 90.00 for a case of wilted flowers. A message was left on my phone from a MD phone number. It was a guy I could barely understand. The message "your flowers are on your porch" That was it. No this is a delivery from City Florist etc..... I had no idea flowers were sent so no clue what this message was. The arrangement has less than 12 assorted flowers and the rest greenery. They look like they have been around awhile. I think they get rid of old flowers on phone orders knowing the person ordering prob won't see the flowers. It's been 2 days and most are wilted now. The flowers never opened up. I made sure they had fresh water for the past 2 days. You can go to Harris Teeter floral dept and get 10 times the flowers and they are fresher and last longer. My husband was disappointed and felt bad when he saw what I received. I told him don't worry, lesson learned. Never give them your money again. I contacted them an did not get a response. So much for 100% satisfaction. read more

My husband and I just recently went through a death in the family, and City Florists of Clayton was recommended by several family members/friends. I went into the shop to order flowers, and was not initially greeted when I walked in, even though I could hear people talking in the back (you can see through a doorway into the back where they make the arrangements. I was greeted after a few minutes, and was ushered over to a sitting area (couch/chairs) where they had arrangement (picture) books, in order to find what we needed to order. While, I have never ordered flowers for a funeral, I was guided (I asked questions, and the woman I worked with gave me suggestions) to what would be needed for a viewing and a funeral/graveside service. I was lucky the day I came in, because the wholesaler was there, delivering flowers, so I was able to have a wider selection of flowers to choose from. The flowers were delivered without issue, and once I was able to see the arrangements, I was blown away at how beautiful they were. We received comments from the visitors (to the viewing as well as to the funeral the next day) on how beautiful the flowers were. This place may not be for everyone, but they did an excellent job for the flowers that I needed, and I would highly recommend them to others. read more

This is a bit late but I have been dealing with more pressing matters. I called a day or two before Mother's Day and told the woman that I was talking to take the opportunity to have artistic creativity in terms of what kind of bouquet I was going to purchase. I only had one specification; it was to include at least one orchid and work with my budget. That was all. I was told to come in the following day at 9 to pick them up and pay for them. I showed up alongside another customer before 9 and waited until they opened. They opened and we both walk in. I let the other lady go in front seeing as she seemed to be in more of a hurry than I was. She was trying to pick up a corsage for her child's prom. Her order was not found so therefore it was not completed. I had to wait about 15 minutes for them to make one for her. This should've been a sign. When they finally got done with hers, it was my turn. I gave them my name and told them as much as I could but since I gave them open reign, I couldn't say much. Turns out that they don't have very good organizational skills since they couldn't find my order either. This is where it gets better. After they realize that they cannot find my order, they ask me again what I wanted in it and what was my budget (40-50 since they aren't going to last long). She walks away to "create" my order. 2 mins later, I am asked if I am being helped, I say " I think so" and repeat the story and she goes to the back and gets updated, comes back out and asks me if there is one out on the floor that I am interested in. I look around and no, there is not since half of them are already wilting or just don't look like what I am looking for or is not in the price range I am in. she walks away. Another woman (this is 3 now) comes and asks me if I am being helped and seeing that at this point I am REALLY not sure, I repeat the issue. I am AGAIN asked if there is something out on the floor that interests me and I tell her that the ONLY one I wanted is about $30 above my price range and she states "yea, I can't take $50 for that" and walks away. Keep in mind that this is now a hr. later of waiting and at this point I am ready to start blowing up. They have all disappeared to the back and I am about to leave when she comes up and asks me if I like the bouquet she has put together. Now, I am not going to lie, I grabbed and said fine to this bouquet simply for the fact that at this point what should have been an in and out process that should've taken 10 mins max, has turned into far longer and I was bordering on being late for work. I get them home just to realize that the bouquet has flowers that have already wilted, discolored, or even broken and that the one flower that I had asked for never even made it in. I am beyond disappointed. But I am still not even done. Turns out that one of my customers works there and so I vented a little bit about what had happened, she asked me for my name, number and address so that I can be contacted about resolving the issue and I was never called or contacted in any way. All I know is that I am not going to be recommending this location nor is my hard earned money going to spent enforcing such behaviors/treatment. I would advise that unless some major changes occur, don't even bother. read more

If I could give this florist shop 0 stars I would. My husband ordered flowers from FTD and this shop was the one that created the arrangement and delivered them. I received a call the day that they were supposed to be delivered around 2PM. I politely answered my personal cell phone and was not greeted professionally but barked at asking me if "we" were open. I then asked who she meant by "we" as she dialed my personal cell phone. She was very rude and seemed agitated that she had to call me to do her job and finally explained who she was and the information she wanted. I informed her the business was open and gave her directions since they did not seem to be able to use googlemaps. Skip to 5PM as I'm wrapping up to leave work. Another rude woman calls me directly demanding to know where my location is and instructions on where to go. I explain again where the address is since this woman cannot use googlemaps either. She tells me she is 6 minutes away and I tell her I will meet her in the lobby (even though she is supposed to deliver them to our front desk.) She calls again 15 minutes later saying she *thinks* she is her and demands to know where I am and if I can see her green van. I explain again that I am inside the building waiting on her. 5 minutes later she appears inside the building and says "are these your flowers?!". At this point, I'm about to lose it on these extremely rude women and politely ask if they are addressed to my name. She shoves them in my hands, mumbles I hope I don't get a ticket (even though I explained where parking was) and turns around and leaves. To make matters worse, the arrangement looked nothing like what my husband picked. They were supposed to be all red roses, greenery and babies breath. The *creative* direction City Florist of Clayton took was awful. They added wilting light pink lilies, bells of ireland and purple filler flowers. They also added a giant baby pink bow that looked like it belonged on an arrangement for a baby shower. read more

They deserve 0 stars, but I'm not given that option. They have disappointed me twice and I will NEVER order from them again nor will I recommend them. I placed an order online for flowers to be delivered to my mom for Mother's Day, approximately 4 business days before I needed them delivered. I spoke directly with the owner on the phone to complain that my mom did not receive her flowers until 4:30 PM on the Friday before Mother's Day. In my order under the "Special Instructions" box, I requested for them to be delivered by 12 noon to the elementary school she works at. She did not receive her flowers until 4:30 PM, right when the office was about to close. I understand Mother's Day is your busiest time of year but why did it take that long to deliver her flowers at a public school? Knowing good and well that the school day is typically over around 2:30 or so. Again, I understand its one of the busiest times of year. If you don't have enough delivery people, maybe you should think about hiring a couple more beforehand as seasonal help. "We tried our best" with a snotty attitude sure as hell doesn't make me want to do business with you again. Several years ago, I ordered flowers for my mom for her birthday to be delivered to her school and she never got them. Her bday is the beginning of December, so I doubt you were that busy. I asked for a refund and was told we'll send her a really big arrangement next week to surprise her. I believe everyone deserves a second chance but after last week's late delivery, I'm done with this business. DO NOT DO BUSINESS WITH THEM. When I requested a refund for the late Mother's Day arrangement, I was told with a nasty attitude by the owner that I don't deserve a refund because my mom still received her arrangement on Friday, regardless that it was at the end of the day. When I said I will never do business with her again, her reply was something along the lines of "Well sir, I hope the rest of your day goes well and that nothing in the rest of your life ever goes wrong and everything always goes your way." I have never been more furious in my life and I am usually never one to complain about a business transaction because I forgive and forget. But when you talk to customers like that and treat people like that, there's a damn good reason why you have such low reviews. If you can't handle the rush of Mother's Day, get out of the flower business. Maybe you stop taking orders if you can't fulfill them in a timely fashion, but nope, you'll gladly take the customers' money. UPS, Fed-Ex, and the like have a better track record than your small business. read more

Not the best flowers. My husband got me a bouquet as an after wedding, pre-honeymoon gift and I was less than excited...about the flowers, not the gesture. They looked liked the flowers you bought at a grocery store right before they died. Hopefully this was just a one time disappointment, but I would not go back there again. read more

My sister [#2] in MA. bought my other sister [#1] and myself [#3] a "fruit basket" for Christmas. Mine was delivered last Monday, December 22 from Cleveland's Florist and my other sister's [#1] came from a florist in Wake Forest. #1 sister's basket had a pineapple, oranges, apples, grapes, giardelli chocolate, loose mixed nuts, cheese, crackers, pasta, sauce, etc. Very nice tall crammed filled basked. Even the quality of the 'basket' was nice and sturdy. But my [#3] basket left a lot to be desired. 2 apples, 4 bananas, red grapes, clementines [packed on the bottom and bruised, 2 oranges, 2 lunch size bags [3/$1] 1 of cheetos and the other fritos, then the grabber [which I consider Halloween candy] laffy taffy, nerds, KitKat, sweet tarts, 2 packs of DunkAroos. A bag of peanuts in the shell. All this for $65 with $6.95 delivery. So I called Clevelands and mentioned to them that I am disappointed with this basked and she states "well that is the Willy Wonka Basket" I then mentioned to her that there is only a few items in there that is Willy Wonka AND I DON"T EAT CANDY. She said that is for the children to eat. Our Kids are 30 and 28 years old. She said that there is suppose to be a cheese ball and crackers in the basket . I mentioned to her that there are no cheese and crackers. She offered to deliver them that night [12/23]. I said it is 6:30 pm why don't you deliver it tomorrow [12/24]. She said that she would. I AM STILL WAITING FOR THE CHEESE AND CRACKERS. I called again on Thursday. Left a message that I'm still waiting. I called again on Tuesday morning, 12/30 stating that I would like my #2 sister to receive her money back. The girl that answered the phone said that she cannot handle that end and that Melody would have to do it as she is the one that dealt with me last week. I went to the website and checked out thebaskets that they have. There is NO Willy Wonka basket. Melody said that she is the one that filled those baskets that day [as she states that she was working on 5 baskets at a time] and is sorry that she left out the cheese and crackers. What really gets me is that there was no re-delivery like she stated she was going to do and what I considered 'Halloween' candy. The kind/size you hand out. Not the good chocolates, but the cheap grocery store fillers. The baskets you get at the grocery stores were better filled than this basket was. Especially for $65. I am glad I took my pictures of this basket. It could have been that they were really busy for the holiday and definitely ran out of stuff. They have been nice over the phone but the customer follow-up and quality of the product is very poor. Today is 12/31....still no follow-up with them. Need to call sister #2 and see if she got her money back yet. The florist in the past [Flower Barn] is who I usually get my deliveries from when my sister sent us baskets and they have been great and the quality of the food/chocolate and nuts were superior quality [not Willy Wonka]. Sister #2 has called her florist that she placed her order with and complained about them choosing Cleveland's for the delivery down here. I will keep you posted on whether they follow-up....because I sure am. I do not recommend them at this time!! read more

VERY UNHAPPY about the flowers I received for Valentine's Day 2013. They only delivered 11 roses in my arrangement. When I called I was informed that they would deliver me A SINGLE rose FOR ME to put in my arrangement but it would not be Valentine's Day. After having my boyfriend call (from FLORIDA) to report the issue, they agreed to deliver another dozen. He asked to speak with the owner at least 3 times in that conversation and has yet to speak with the owner (as of the writing of this review). The attitudes of the staff were lacking -- I understand it was one of the busiest days for a florist - but still....for what was paid for those flowers, they could have been a little nicer.
