The first two technicians they sent spent hours troubleshooting but completely failed to find the issue. Instead of properly diagnosing the system, they installed a non-OEM control board without my knowledge or consent. This unauthorized part risked causing further damage to my electrical system through power fluctuations. When that didn't fix the AC, they guessed the AC contactor was the problem and replaced it twice to no avail. It wasn't until the sixth visit that a senior tech finally came out and identified the actual root cause: a damaged low-voltage power line leading from the AC to the house. This is a fundamental issue that should have been caught on day one. Dealing with a broken AC in the middle of summer is hard enough, but enduring a dragged-out, six-visit ordeal with a newborn baby in the house made their incompetence a complete nightmare. Ultimately, because they left my system compromised, I had to hire an entirely different, independent HVAC company to actually fix the problem. To make matters worse, I sent a detailed email to Duct Professor management outlining these failures and requesting a refund for the misdiagnoses and unauthorized parts. They completely ignored me. PROS: ServiceMax has been communicative, timely, and professionally responsive. Their $250 dispatch/diagnostic fee is comparable to other companies I contacted. They work on high-rise buildings with IEC coils and are willing to provide part numbers, which I appreciated. No complaints about the customer service experience. CONS: The repair pricing is expensive. The $250 diagnostic/dispatch fee does not transfer toward the repair. I was quoted $1,700 to replace a motor costing about $300, including delivery, with an estimated 1-1.5 hours of work. With the dispatch fee, the total would be nearly $1,950. When I questioned the difference, I was told the additional cost includes retrieving the part, traveling downtown, parking, and overhead. I understand that businesses have overhead and are entitled to set their own pricing. However, it puts the burden on the customer to compare prices. The challenge is that "shop around" can mean being without AC while waiting for other companies to diagnose the problem and provide estimates--especially difficult during hot weather. My impression is that larger franchise HVAC companies may fall within a similar general price range, but I would still recommend getting multiple estimates if possible. Ask for parts, labor, travel, and other fees to be clearly itemized so you can make meaningful comparisons. A few suggestions: 1. If you live in a managed building, send the quote to management/your HOA or board. They may have experience with similar repairs or recommend alternatives. 2. Research the actual cost of the parts and compare it with labor and other fees. 3. Ask about discounts, coupons, reduced travel fees, or whether the diagnostic fee can be applied toward the repair. 4. Depending on the repair, another licensed large appliance repair company may offer hourly labor rather than separate travel/part-retrieval charges. Remember Angi's list, Thumbtack, and TaskRabbit--where there are verified, independent contractors. Overall, I have had a positive experience with ServiceMax in terms of communication, responsiveness, and professionalism. I may still hire them. If your system requires a specialized company like ServiceMax and you cannot shop around, I have no reason not to recommend them based on my experience so far. However, because of the price and lack of discounts or credit toward the repair, I feel I need to explore other options first. If I move forward, I will update this review.

What should have been a simple service appointment turned into weeks of frustration and a complete failure of professionalism. We requested a quote online, paid a deposit, and scheduled an appointment for a Sunday afternoon (2-5 pm). We never received a confirmation email, but assumed the booking went through. When we couldn't reach anyone by phone to confirm, we let it go. On Sunday morning at 10 am -- hours before our appointment -- we got a call telling us they don't have technicians working on Sundays. Nobody could explain how we were able to book a Sunday appointment through their own online system, or what we were supposed to do next. I called Monday and spoke with a manager who admitted this was a known issue with their scheduling system -- one they were "working to fix." I was offered a discount and rescheduled for the following Friday, 8 am-12 pm. Okay, frustrating, but I gave them another chance. Thursday evening, less than 24 hours before that appointment, we received a voicemail saying our Friday appointment was also being cancelled because of "another service." No explanation, no apology, no alternative offered. I called back furious. I made clear I wanted someone to show up for the appointment we had. The person I spoke to went to check with a manager -- who couldn't even be bothered to call me directly. When they called back, the answer was simply: reschedule for next week. No compensation. No acknowledgment of the repeated failures. Nothing. The only thing Air Flows Chicago did quickly and without issue was refund my deposit when I demanded it. One additional note: their online booking system never made clear which location -- Air Flows Chicago or Air Flows Chicago Belmont -- was handling our appointment. We still don't know. That lack of transparency is itself a problem, and it's why I'm posting this on both listings. Two cancellations. A known broken booking system they hadn't fixed. A manager who wouldn't get on the phone. And zero effort to make it right. Save yourself the headache and book someone else.

All they offered was their typical 30-day guarantee, something you get no matter what, and for someone to come back out to clean the mess. I'm not 100% they did a thorough job, especially compared to the first company I had out the previous job...I didn't get exactly what was promised. I probably won't hire them again.
