Worst customer service in the entire bay area. You will regret if you go to this place. Even if you had a good experience going to this place just wait and watch, You are going to have worst experience one day for sure. This people are rudest. You can't even tell them how you want your hair cut and if you dare to tell them that then they get mad at you. As a person who usually gets his haircuts from a family member and liked the results. My job didn't like them as much as I did and Clean Cuts is not even 2 minutes away from my house and I was a regular as a kid. I decided to go back and give it a try again a couple weeks ago. I came back today cause I liked the results of the last time I went. I told the woman that I wanted 2 on the sides and the back and trim the top and she did a perfect job at it. She is also very friendly while cutting your hair and I know her son from High School and a previous job. Small world. I've known Helen since I was in 4th grade. My family has gone to Helen since she was an employee at another hair salon. She quit that job, and we frantically went searching for her in San Jose. Lo and behold, she opened up her own shop next to Target on Silver Creek and Capitol. Helen has an exceptional memory. My entire family, my aunt's family, and my cousin's family go here to get their hair cuts. Helen remembers everyone's names and the most recent stories that they tell (that's 13 people total). Great customer service. Her haircuts are average, what you would normally expect from an Asian salon with mediocre prices. The downside to Clean Cuts is that when Helen starts getting more and more customers waiting for her, she speeds up her cutting - sometimes leaving you with an imperfect hairdo. =/ My brother still goes to Helen to get his hair 'lined up.' I once remember when I had the urge to get a wavy perm (2nd year college) AND I REGRETTED IT. I cried to Helen and she quickly removed the perm for me after less than 2 months. My hair was still damaged, but at least she undid the Shirley Temple curls that I had... Because of Helen's inconsistent haircuts, I have moved onto more high end salons (Umbrella in Downtown San Jose), where I can say I've had the best haircuts of my life. Helen, please give each customer the quality haircut that they deserve and be consistent. Customers, she doesn't take appointments, but only get a haircut when there's no one else in line. This is the absolute worst place to get a hair cut. I needed to get a cut quick! So like most I went to the closest place to my house. When I walked in I sat for a bit and then was seated. I told her what I wanted (zero low fade leave the top but blend because I do a comb over) and boom she said she will just to the sides. Said the top of my hair is to short to do a comb over. She literally took 5mins and was done. I told her I disliked the haircut and refused to pay. She didn't take any time and just wanted to move on to the next person. My family has been getting haircuts from this place for YEARS. They fully recognize and know us by now, so that's always great because they know we appreciate their work and they always do a good job of cutting our hair. I've liked most of the haircuts that I've gotten here. I used to get my hair cut by Michelle back when my hair was incredibly long and thick. She does a really great job with layering really long, thick Asian hair. Now that I've had short hair for the past few years, I've always gotten my hair cut by Michelle's sister (not sure what her name is). She usually does a great job with my hair. Sometimes she cuts it a little shorter than I want, but it doesn't really faze me too much. It's usually around $15 for a normal hair cut. I'm not sure about the prices for the other stuff. They share the place with a nail salon station. I know that a woman that rents the nail area out comes in and has her customers there as well. It doesn't really interrupt with the hair cutting stations, though. Overall a mediocre hair salon. Not a fancy place, but you get what you paid for. read more

I followed my mom/cousin/aunt's (it's a family affair) hair stylist, Lily, to this location. She used to be at another location, but she now has a station here at clean cuts. Bored with my hair, I decided to try blunt bangs again. I have a hair stylist I usually go to who I loveeeee but she did not do a good job during the blunt bang debacle of 2010.. so my cousin recommended Lily. "Bring pictures!" she says. My only gripe about Lily is that she is pretty difficult to book! Even for a bang trim! She does not work Sundays and Tuesdays, just FYI! Luckily she managed to squeeze me in, I showed her the picture of what I wanted and I really liked how detail-oriented she was. She pointed out that in the picture the bangs were not straight across, the sides were a bit longer, and she wanted to double check if I was OK with that. Even for a bang trim, she took a good 20-25 minutes, which I really appreciated because with a bang trim you can go from fab to ohmygaahd in .25 seconds. She was pretty conservative with the length and slowly went shorter until I was happy with the length. I let out a sigh of relief after I put my glasses back on, we've avoided another fringe fiasco. On top of it all, she only charged me $3 for my bang trim! I was like "whaaaat, you don't even know me!" but I was happy with the cut and the price. She's my go-to fringe person now, I'll be back every 2-3 weeks to maintain the bangs. Definitely got the bang for my buck. har har har. read more

I've been getting my hair done by Lily for 15 years now. Her clients have all been referrals and like another Yelper said, can be difficult to book. She is her busiest during the holidays so if you're considering on getting your hair done around NYE...plan 2-3 weeks in advance. She is one of the greatest colorists I've had do my hair and is a whiz with scissors. I always step away from her salon chair with healthier looking hair. I don't know how she does it. My boyfriend goes to Helen, and she is one of those hidden gem stylists which is always nice. The rest of her staff is what I'm rating. I went in here expecting the great hair cut I got from Helen a couple months prior. She was picking up her daughter so I opted for her older employee. To put it mildly, she screwed up... BIG TIME I showed her a picture of Kimberly Caldwell's hair when she had an A-line cut and the woman reassured me that she gets women all the time who want it.. yadayadayada. BS!!! I naturally have thick hair and this woman thinned out ... a really small portion of it. She pulled my hair so close to my roots while thinning.. now i have small hairs sticking up.. which ISN'T supposed to happen On top of that, while she was combing my hair.. SHE PULLED MY EARRING OUT OF MY EAR!!! I don't have extra large extravagant earrings or anything, I have studs.. small mickey mouse studs and she managed to pull it straight from my ear. Lady whose station is closest to the cash register is the RUDEST hair stylist I have ever met. I recently got my hair colored at another salon, and I wanted to simply get layers in my hair. This salon was closest to my house and wasn't very busy so I thought I'd give it a shot. The whole time the lady was doing my hair she kept saying bad things about my hair like "it's so dry, honey... This color is ugly, who did your hair? if you try to fix it, your hair might fall off," etc. I'm serious, the whole time it was like that... She didn't even try to have a nice conversation with me. She has the WORST customer service I've ever experienced... I would've given this place 1 star but she did an ok job for simple layers. Also, they only accept tips in cash. Helen is so nice! My mom randomly found this place when she was in need of a haircut and she recommended her to me. She's not my usual hairstylist, but I go to Helen when I'm in desperate need of a haircut and can't make an appointment with my usual hairstylist. On certain days (especially weekends) she can get busy though with walk ins, so there will be a wait, first come first serve. My regular hairstylist used to have a booth in Clean Cuts and Helen was very respectful of her coworkers' customers/regular clients. I also liked that when I did get a haircut from her she would NOT criticize my normal hairstylist's haircutting style like most hairstylists I go to. She also has a sister who cuts hair here too, I feel I mostly see her doing men and children cuts. She did cut my hair one time, but I wasn't a fan of it. I'd rather wait for Helen. The lady who cut my hair ( third chair from the cashier) could not communicated either in vietnamese or english. I wanted my hair to have u-shape n being lightly layered. She did not understand n kept talking about the A-shape where the hair on the neck is shorter and getting longer in the front. I finally told her to trim an inch off from my hair the way I had it which was ushape and she just had to layer jt a little bit. She ended up cutting my hair like a jelly fish with two distinct layers, one hella short and puffy with the other layer thin and long! The fuck? If you want a typical haircut that your mom or some untrained person gives you, this is the place. This is my second time leaving this place unsatisfied because she didn't know how to cut my hair. I gave her a detailed explanation of how to cut my hair, but she simply said, I quote, "I can't do that," chuckled, then decided to cut my hair her way. I think there are some qualified hairdressers there, but there definitely are some "hairdressers" who can't do a simple men's haircut. Stay FAR, FAR away from this place if you plan to get your hair japanese straighten. I used to have long healthy hair but now it is super DRY, FRIZZY, and BRITTLE. The damage was so extensive that I had to chop off more than half of my hair, leaving me with shoulder length hair. But even then, my hair is still fried on certain areas. To top it off, the main reason why I got my hair japanese straightened in the first place was so I wouldn't need to worry about flat ironing it on a daily basis but instead, that's exactly what I have to do now to keep my hair tamed.
