When I arrived there was just one other person in the waiting area. The lady before me looked like she needed to get some highlights done so that took longer than a regular haircut. One of my friends recommended this salon to me - I've never even heard of it or noticed it prior to her recommendation because it's pretty low-key. Located in the Safeway plaza in between Safeway and CVS, this salon is a gem : ) well, especially for someone like me! I've only been here once, but I look forward to coming back for a trim. I got my hair cut (layered) by the owner's wife (I forget her name), but she genuinely took her time on my hair, despite the fact that I have a TON of hair. She's super sweet and actually listens to what the client wants. You want your hair a certain length? You got it. You want longer bangs? You got it. She's NOT like any of those other Asian stylists that just cut according to what they think looks good. I've had so many bad experiences with stylists like that and I was so delighted to have a stylist that listens to me! To top it all off, haircuts for long hair is a flat rate of $18!! I was so surprised she only charged me that much, even with all of my hair, so of course I tipped her extra. : ) I'm not sure if appointments are necessary, but I made an appt just in case. My mom and I have been coming here for years and have no intention of going anywhere else any time soon. We always come for the owner since he is very consistent with his work. He's always busy, so we always call ahead before coming in. Appointments aren't required, but if he is too busy, he can tell us to come at a later time or a different day so we don't have to wait. I've seen guys and girls come here just for him. He has other stylists available but most people would still prefer to wait for him. He's quick but the quality is still there. When your hair starts growing out, it still looks the same. There's no awkward in-between stage where you have to do something different with your hair while it grows out. I have been here a few time for an undercut trim. They usually do a good job but today I had a horrible experience. I asked for my usual 1" at the top faded to 0" at bottom. The woman helping me seemed rushed as she had hair dye on herself. The cut is uneven, no fade and her response was that my hair which was one inch long was uneven to begin with. In her efforts to fix it she ended up going above the undercut defined line and left it crooked. read more

But because the service this place gives me, I have straight, smooth hair at an affordable price. About 2 to 3 times a year I make an appointment for Japanese straightening. Its different from Brazilian blowout. It costs me $120 including a haircut. When I get price quotes from other places, for the exact same service, every single place would charge me over $400! This is a family owned business, a husband and wife, and his dad works there too. They are very pleasant people and I never feel like that they are trying to milk me. I started coming to this salon just for my eyebrows with Angie. She's the only person I trust waxing them! All of the tunes I've been here she never tried to sell me other services! One day I mentioned wanting to do something different with my hair, and she suggested some small highlights for my curly hair. But she wasn't pushy about doing it with her or right away. 2 days ago I went there to get my women short hair cut.I showed the picture for my hair cut to the owner (Angie).I wanted my hair cut even length everywhere .She said he ( vin) will cut your hair the way to want.when he start cutting my hair he cut my hair too short(1inch) on backside and my top and front hair cut was about 4 inch.The cut was uneven.I told him that my hair is too short on backside , I want my hair same way like I showed them in the picture but it was too late .He got upset and said next time you come I will not cut your hair.Your hair is so rough.If I cut your hair short, you will say my hair is too short.If I cut your hair long, you will say your hair is too long.they both start taking in their on language.I just wanted my hair to be cut like I showed them in the picture.He mess up my hair and got mad at me.Very rude person.Will not go there.0 star. read more

I really enjoyed working with Angie on my wedding! My mother has been going to this salon for years and recommended her. Leading up to the wedding, we did a test run of the hair and makeup. I have dark hair that I haven't colored in years, and she suggested doing balayage highlights two weeks prior to the wedding so that the braids would stick out, which I went with. Angie was able to do an updo with my short, shoulder length hair, which was very impressive. She also did a facial a week prior to the wedding. Angie does it all! Came here for the first time today with my mom. My mom is a regular and she told me she loves this place so I decided to try it out. I wanted to get a hair color and so I looked on the reviews and decided to go to Angie. Others have said that she's good when it comes to hair. When I got to the place, Angie gave me some books to look over colors of hair and she helped me choose what was best since I had highlights. I went for a dark color. Throughout the whole process Angie took her time on my mom and I's hair and did not rush at all. She even convinced me to get a hot oil while waiting. Wanted to try a new salon place nearby so my boyfriend and I stumbled upon this place.. Brand Hong Kong.. Had the old man dye my hair (I assume he is the owner since his daughter and maybe son were working there). I wanted to dye my hair light brown and even showed him a picture.. after he finished.. MY HAIR COLOR WAS EXACTLY THE SAME COLOR I CAME IN WITH. I was so upset and told him and he had the audacity to tell me it's lighter because right now it's nighttime it would be lighter in the sun. NO. So his daughter Angie knew that her father was wrong but they said they couldn't get that light brown unless I bleached it but it would be too dry since I just dyed my hair... So they decided to add some free highlights to lighten my hair... So in end it turned out ok thanks to his daughter who did the highlights for me, but it was not what I wanted. I didn't even want highlights to begin with I just wanted one color. But since I was already there and wasted 2 hours I wasn't going to leave. I went into the salon "Brand Hong Kong" at around 2:30pm on 12/16/2018 to get a haircut. At the time there were only 3 men in the building. An older man, a younger man, and a customer who was getting his hair cut. The younger man seems to be the son of the older man, and at this time he was cutting a customer's hair. I was seated and told to wait. After the customer was done. They call me to seat on the first row. where is the man is seated.There was hair all over the seat and the smock he put on me has a lot of hair. He then left the building and then returned.I asked him why there was hair all over the smock and if he used it on a previous customer.He seemed flustered and quickly change the smock. Then he begun cutting my hair, at first i did not notice but i feel like he was using the same scissors from the first customer. My suspicions is confirmed when he grab another dirty pair in front of me and quickly wipe them down.I asked him why his using a dirty pair of scissor he rolled his eyes and quickly sprayed them with water then said they were clean. I stopped the haircut immediately went to pay for the work he had already done, then asked them if they clean their tools. They seemed defensive , started yelling at me, then kick me out. All i wanted were clean tools to used on me, Instead I was getting yelled at. Don't ever go to this Salon they are rude, don't care about health and safety of their customer. read more

Even though I moved to the city over a year ago, I wait until I come back home to San Jose so Bonnie (my favorite hairstylist) can work her magic on my thick, coarse, Asian hair.
