It's convenient if you're not looking to pay for a full service carwash in this area, but it's also inconvenient if the pay machine is broken or unresponsive like my experience. I ended up being charged double for a 10 minute job, and because there isn't any maintenance or staff member around, I just had to take my loss. Came by to this self-serve token-operated car wash the other day and was pleasantly surprised! The property is relatively new and in excellent condition. They accept tokens only and to start the machine, it's 3 tokens ($3) for 4.5 minutes. The foam brush was in pristine condition that was perfect for cleaning my rims after some wheel cleaner! The high pressure wax treatment had purple warm wax coming out while cleaning my vehicle! The highlight of the entire experience is that they have this air vacuum that helps air dry your car too...all included with the 4.5 minutes for $3! ...I'll definitely stop by the next time I'm in the area! read more

I got ripped off by the new credit card payment system. There's no screen or signs posted to tell you how much you'll be charged when you swipe. The day after I went there, I checked my credit card account online and saw that Clean Machine charged $10 for 2 minutes ... I just needed to spot clean some bird poop off the hood. If $10 is the minimum charge, swiping your card twice amounts to what you'd pay a full-service car wash -- where others do all the work. So, you do the math. read more

Token machine is cheating people. It spits out both tokens and quarters. Tokens are worth a dollar and quarters cannot be used. Every quarter you get, the business is cheating you out of 75 cents. There's nowhere to report this, nowhere to complain to or to get your money back. Since the stalls don't even use quarters anymore, there's no reason for there to be quarters in the dispenser other than the business is cheating customers and there's nothing you can do about it. read more

Bizarre and unsettling. As I was putting my crispy new $10 in the machine I was approached by a large brusque man who was washing a black truck at the next booth. He said "Give it to me, I'll put it in for you, it probably won't work" as he held out his hand for my money. " I pointed out that his hands were dripping wet so I would put it in myself. Which I did, while he repeated that he would do it for me. As the tokens were being dispensed he told me he was the manager, that I was rude, and asked me who did I think he was. I apologized, and started to explain that as I wasn't about to just hand my cash to a complete stranger and that I didn't expect to need help. He continued to ( loudly) state that I was rude, a terrible person and should never come back. I went to my car and he followed me. Then left and came back with a $10 bill, which he handed me as he told me to never come back. Then he got in his truck and left. I washed my car. This was my second time using this car wash. First time was fine. This time I noticed the card reader wasn't accepting the swipe so had to swipe multiple times. There is no confirmation of payment acceptance except for the sound of the hoses starting. I used two cycles of the wash and two cycles of the vacuum station which should have amounted to $14 total. Very spacious and very ideal. This is my go to self serve car wash spot, mostly because the location. Its five bucks for a real basic job if you hurry up . I've never had any problems here and of all the times I've used this service there's only been a line once. They have a great selection of fragrances to choose from. Its gotta great location right next to downtown San Carlos and also right next to El Camino. The brush has always been in great condition so I've never had a problem with cleanliness. My tires always come out crystal clean with the tire cleaner selection. The coin machine and all the service here have always worked great for me and I've definitely used them all. Do not go here. I have been here several times, consistently, the machines break down and they do not work. There is a return slip with no address or contact info, and the amount of sketchness from the next door hotel, is soooooo gross. I will not go into details. The machine the last time I was here, does not recognize the Wash Coins as its own coins. Instead, reads them as Quarters. The machines explicitly state they do not work with quarters. Please contact the San Carlos City Hall and report that they do not make make their contact clear! While I was there, three more customers lost their money because the machines suddenly didn't work!!! DO JOT GO HERE UNLESS YOU'RE A FOOL AND WANT TO LOOSE YOU'RE money!! I won't use this facility any more. Getting ripped off even if it's a small amount leaves a bad taste in ones mouth. One time the air blower (dry machine) didn't work after I dropped the requisite dollars in the coin slot. Last week many (3) tokens I bought from the change machine, were not accepted in the wash register. There's no number to call service anywhere on any of the machines. I'm done with this rip-off facility. We must not let bad service continue. A decent business of this kind should have a contact number to call when you have these kinds of problems. This is a tentative 3 star review. Clean Machine car wash has been just fine until today. At other car washes in the Redwood City area, I get ogled and sometimes harassed, so I thought I had found a home base in this quiet one. I've been there enough times to have begun keeping tokens in the car. The brushes have been clean, the water pressure is strong, and the spray wax definitely makes for a nice finishing touch. The tire cleaner doesn't do much, if anything. The "air shammee" works, but in a very small area, so you can easily spend four dollars just on air. The token machine is inside one of the bays, so I once left without finding it. The machine will only give tokens, worth $1 each, but isn't fussy about the bills you feed in. No option for a debit or credit card. The vacuum cleaners I've tried work reasonably well, nothing special, but they do work. Unfortunately, today the experience resembled one of the shady self car washes in Redwood City. After I pulled in, the person to my right took a look, then popped his head back in again five minutes later. While I was still in the car getting situated, the person to my left snaked his head over for a peek from the other end. Whatever, but I would think they were busy washing their own cars. The unpleasantness continued when I discoverd, after feeding in $6, that the soap and the wax weren't working. I was too annoyed to try the brush. I ended up with a water wash. Yay. Maybe the men to either side knew that bay wasn't working, and just wanted to see who the newbie was. Of course, no phone number to be found on premises. There is an unlocked mailbox labeled "REFUNDS" high up on one wall, so I reached up and in, thinking theremight be a refund form to mail in. I pulled out a piece of junk mail. Unsatisfying If this is an isolated incident, I could give this car wash a 4- or 5-star review. As it is, since they supposedly empty the coin machines every night, they should also be checking their machines every night. Multiple times now the systems is out of soap. Today out Of soap and wax. One does not know this until the wash is started. So essentially we are paying 5 dollars for water. If it was once I could understand it, but this seems to be systematic and consistent with this place. They also raised the piece not too long ago. I know most people would just deal with it and go on with their businesses and not report this. This is like buying a hamburger from in n out and they always leave out the patty, and sometime the patty and cheese. I use this place time to time when I don't want to spend more for a detail. It gets the job done. For $3 you get about 4 mins of time. You do have to hustle to get your wash, scrub, and rinse done in time. But for $4 or $5 you can get more time. Only once did the car wash panel eat my tokens (about two years ago), but I did notify the owners and they promptly mailed me enough tokens to cover my loss plus extra. This self wash is the best. Always clean and tidy. Recently upgraded to include new soaps and waxes that enhance the results. Owner came by when I was finishing up. When my work situation changed, I lost what had been an excellent self-serve car wash option. I happened to be in the San Carlos area, so I decided to try this place out. Initially, I was disappointed about losing money due to the token exchange/insertion process. However, Holly (who helps oversee this operation) called me back on the following Friday, the only day she is in the office, to discuss and rectify my concern.
