However, I experienced a outage that I could not troubleshoot, and I called customer service for help. However, the agent had a not-so-good attitude, which said I did not appreciate. For which he apologized by blaming it on me. For example, he said the box should have 3 cables. Mine had two. He insisted there were 3 over and over, implying that I had a significant lack of knowledge or experience in troubleshooting. Two of my relatives were with me and also confirmed the two cables, yet he kept insisting there are 3 and that we were mistaken in an exasperated tone. I have always had pleasant experiences with customer service agents, so this was quite shocking. He also did not explain things well. Only after repeated clarification questions could follow his directions. We ultimately were not able to fix the outage due to the cable situation. Hopefully, other agents are more helpful than this one, and only I have had this unpleasant experience. Otherwise, the internet service and installation process is great, I have had no other issues.

Call him if you want good customer service: 206-254-7317. Pricing was great. My advice: make sure the local loop is good and test it before completing your order. Make sure you have at least one line going inside from the box, they don't do inside wiring install at all, but they will set up equipment and have your local telco provision lines, etc. Do not expect any inside wiring or line pulls -- you will need to hire someone for that. Make sure your inside wiring is current as well. When in doubt, pull a new line to make sure you get the speed and low latency you need.

When we first signed up for a DSL account, we were far enough from the phone company's CO that we were limited to ADSL at 1.5/768. This worked fine for years, but the broadband speeds have degraded to the point that they recently had to downgrade our service to 604/384. Apparently, changes made by the phone company have increased our distance from the CO so that we are no longer able to receive decent DSL speeds. So we're paying $49.95 / month for broadband speeds that merit a grade of F from the Ookla speed test. It blows my mind that this is the best DSL service that a major national ISP can provide to customers living within the Seattle city limits. Both the tech who made a service call and a Megapath sales rep have suggested that we really should switch to another ISP. Yes, a fine idea. If we would have done that back during Speakeasy days, we could have continued with email-only service for a modest fee. Apparently, that's not an option with Megapath -- switching ISPs will require obtaining new email accounts. Besides notifying friends of the change, I'm not looking forward to updating my email address on every user account and software registration I have.
