My experience like many others is ATT STINKS! Services outages are frequent. Billing errors (like double billing) are a nightmare to fix. When you need help, the phone AI auto-attendant prevents you from speaking to a person. It keeps giving you canned messages as if that fixes every problem. UPDATE: Internet went down in windstorm in April of 2026. Would have taken AT&T over a week to arrive. They didn't. (They often don't show up in the Outer Sunset section of San Francisco, then blame the customer.) Though no repair was made, and I didn't have AT&T Internet for over a week, they charged me full price for the entire month. Have had other gross overcharges in the past - including with an old landline they kept charging me for calls on I'd never even heard of! And I was told to bring a burned-out modem to a location on Market Street in San Francisco that subsequently said they'd never received it back. Don't trust or believe them. I KNEW IT! I pulled up to my 84 year old mom's house in Rancho Cordova, CA and an ATT person was there in person telling my mom she HAD to accept their new broadband high speed service (new wiring to her house.) One week after their install... ZERO service for four days and no fix in sight. Absolutely horrible Ai only customer service for the first 2 days and then someone who could only schedule a tech. Then a tech who could not fix the problem , "oh I think it's the controller/relay from the other block, I will put in a work order." The service repair tech, Jay-Jay in the San Francisco Bay Area is DISHONEST and did NOT do his job!! We had a repair ticket open up for our house land line phone to be serviced because of no dial tone and one ring tone, we purposely cancelled ALL our appointments so someone was home for his visit because the house is equipped with an alarm, but he did NOT show up for the promised time. All our follow-up actions failed after numerous attempts trying to find out when he would show to make up for his "no-show". We finally got his report from the service department saying he had written down that he could not get to the phone box at our house as "a legitimate excuse", NOT TRUE at all because we WERE at our house all day that day!! We are leaving AT&T because of Jay-Jay and HE does need to be retrained fully to do his job ethically!! read more

AT&T provides fast internet, has no annual fees, maybe you save some money. But there is a reason. Anytime I have a problem with AT&T, they can't just fix the problem and get back to me when it's fixed. I just have to continue to be transferred from department to department giving each new person all of my identifying information. When one person can't figure it out, it's transfer and wait. Hours on the phone. No compassion for the fact that my business isn't operable in the meantime and no plan to help me in the short term continue to run my business while they figure it out. They have a bad business model to help customers when there is a problem and that's the bottom line. Why can't they troubleshoot the problem and get back to the customer? I've been an AT&T phone customer for more the 20 years. I recently switched my internet from Google to an AT&T bundle. All went well and had service for 3 weeks. Got a text yesterday that my internet is cancelled. Spent 4 hours with customer service and got absolutely no help whatsoever from 3 different reps who barely spoke English. Had to return to the store to reapply for the entire setup and now we have to wait for a new box to be mailed to us. Noone was able to give us a reason for the disconnection. I just got internet from AT&T, it's install it yourself deal. I'm 80 years old, but used to be an IT worker some 20 years ago. It took me days and a visit from their repair man to get the wiring right. I'm scared by what I read about how bad their internet is. So far my speed test shows 50.7mbps upload and 11.7 download. I also requested a landline and wireless. After a month of waiting, neither have been ported over. They have no record of the order, so I've been paying for both providers so I don't lose my phone numbers. I've literally spent days talking to their support person who had terrible English so that I keep having to ask that repeat themselves. I have been with AT&T a long time and generally am happy. Two years ago, I exchanged my daughters phone for a "free" upgrade. It took me a couple billing cycles before I realized I was being charged for her new phone. I contacted support and they told me I had to request that a "coupon" be applied to my bill each month that would offset the phone charge. This seemed a little ridiculous that they could not just mark the phone as paid, but whatever, I had no plans to leave AT&T. Fast forward to last month when me and my daughter took our first trip to Europe. I did my research and I purchased eSims for us to use while there. It worked seamlessly for me, but her phone would not allow it because AT&T still has it locked since it is not "paid off". I did have the international plan on her phone, but I still had to pay $12 a day for her phone, where the eSim cost me $12 for a full week. It may not sound like a lot of money, but the principle that they would play this silly game of applying a coupon instead of just giving me the phone like promised. read more

The house I'm moving into has att wiring for fiber internet service. I installed the modem with the att smart home manager app. It didn't activate the internet after many attempts to troubleshoot with the att app. I called customer service and they said they would help resolve the issue. After being on hold for 50 minutes while they were apparently attempting to resolve the problem, the call was dropped on their end. Went to the AT&T store in Davis, to negotiate a long overdue upgrade from DSL. The store person suggested AT&T Air. When I asked, "What are the actual effective bandwidths that AT&T customers have received using this service, here in Davis?," the employee deflected my question and without looking at me, said "Well, it's going to better than what you're getting now." My wife was there and so I dropped the matter. We took the hardware home to set up. The 'setup' video link the store gave us was to an old router, not to the combination router-modem they gave us, and so we had problems. Eventually we got it 'working.' The effective bandwidth of AT&T Air internet was horrible. The store person was wrong, the effective bandwidth was SLOWER than the DSL service we were getting rid of, not faster. I have been a lifelong customer of AT&T and that's saying a lot given my age of 78 years. I have always been very satisfied with my phone service until recently. On Sunday March 8 I became aware that my landline was no longer working. When I called Customer Service I was eventually informed that I would have to call on another day as AT&T has no agents to address landline issues on weekends. The following day when I finally reached a representative I was assured that my service would be restored by 6 PM the following day. When that goal was not reached I was again assured that my service would be restored by the next day, Thursday, at 5 PM. When I called on Friday I was informed that my problem was caused by an outage. That was the first I had heard that. At that point I gave up on customer service and sent an email similar to this complaint to John Stankey, CEO of AT&T. As of this date, April 12, 2026, I have heard from no one in the AT&T organization and still have no landline. read more

I use AT&T through Sonic. I live in Bernal Heights. Service can only be described as abysmal. I recently talked with Somic tech support and they told me AT&T were blocking efforts by Sonic to address issues with the AT&T infrastructure, insisting on sending techs to the houses of users with problems even though Sonic knows, its customers know, I know, and presumably AT&T knows, the issues are with AT&T's infrastructure, not equipment installed at users' homes. AT&T had contractors out to lay fiber optic cable; in the process, they DESTROYED my garden where they dug. While I understand the need to do a job, it should have been done with the minimal amount of disturbance. I lost daisies & grasses got trampled. I filed a damage claim & ATT CLAIMED the contracting company would cut a check for an estimate from a landscaper. Don't combine your internet account with a wireless account if you are not using an ATT phone, it breaks you're account login. We wanted to help my aging in-laws who were getting too old to keep track. We started paying their ATT fiber internet and DirecTV and when that worked, we added their phone bills to our Internet account, but it broke our log-in. After 1.5hrs of chating, first AI then finally a real person, he finally said the only way to get a verification number to log-in is through an ATT phone. They can't use email like they were doing before. They don't have a way to white-list me so I can get in. Now if I'm visiting I have to borrow one of their phones or if I'm not there, I have to call and talk them through how to read their message and to read the number so I can look at my account. When I'm overseas it gets harder. At least the guy was responsive through most of the very long chat. It just took a lot of probing different ways (for about an hour) before he finally said there was no way to fix it. read more

I switched from Spectrum, because they are trying to sneak in higher fees without the customer noticing. AT&T ... fast internet for a good price. That's about it .. the customer service is horrible. The techs need to learn how to install properly. They tried to get me to switch my phone service, but like the other services they offer, it's only half-assed, they don't fully do everything, they only do just enough. I'd rather pay more with someone else, than be stuck with their phone service too ... because whenever you'll need help, there's not a REAL PERSON to be found! When it works it is fast. But we've had two outages over the last 6 months. The first lasted 3 days, with no calls our emails from AT&T telling us what was happening. The 2nd time, they sent a random contractor our who said that the node was down for the whole street and that the specialist that worked on this would be in on Monday because they don't work on Sundays. I was solicited door to door by a young inexperienced AT&T rep for Fiber internet last Friday. I've had Fiber through Frontier at a previous home and liked it so decided to try it again with AT&T. It seemed less expensive and faster than the internet service I had at the new home. We then had a tech come to the house a few days later (Tuesday) but it was late and it would get dark before he was done and didn't seem like a good idea to climb on my roof at night, so we re-scheduled for this coming Saturday morning between 8-10 am. I received a subsequent text from AT&T confirming that appointment. But the next night at 8pm I received a text from AT&T asking why I had not rescheduled my installation appointment. I responded that we had a Saturday morning appointment, to which the text responded that Saturday appointments were not available. At that point I realized this was an AI bot responding. I subsequently attempted to call AT&T directly, call the original sales rep, and call the installer who came and re-scheduled the appointment. I spoke to the first two and left voicemails and sent texts to the installer. I've received no response, but did receive another generic text asking why I've not rescheduled the appointment. In response I've canceled the installation and the account altogether. I can only assume that AT&T could not be expected to provide anything but terrible service based on these initial experiences. I would in no way ever recommend them. I hope that some other provider would offer fiber service but AT&T will not get my business. read more

Their internet service is very poor, cuts off frequently. Rebooting does not work. I've had a number of technician visits and have had to put up with no service for as long as two days. If you are going to use the WiFi for business or school, you may want to look elsewhere. I'll be looking for another provider once I move to my new location. read more

Turns out that the frequent internet outages at night were due to the temperature get cooler. I never would have guessed that. I have Spectrum now (way too expensive just for internet and the price is always going up). I hope the temperature changes aren't causing outages for AT&T's customers still. read more

I never thought about writing this about a company but I have to say that I am disappointed with At&t internet, I requested my internet from At&t on ​​2/7 with installation scheduled for 2/17 and when it arrived on the 17th I was told that there was no a connector on the network then it would be impossible to complete the installation on that date. I really understand, so they asked me for 3 to 4 days to do this service and due to the upcoming holiday, it wouldn't be possible to anticipate the service either. so after a week waiting for the installation of the connector that would actually bring the network to my house, I received some calls to access my backyard and finish the tests, which were completed successfully. Then my scheduling saga began to complete the installation and the technician's visit was scheduled for 3/1 and it failed, it didn't come, it was scheduled for 3/2 via central and it failed, so I appealed and asked almost begging that I need the internet for work and for my children's social use, so it was rescheduled for 3/4 and and and it failed, no technician showed up, no one called, no news, so I couldn't resist and begged the center to send me the technician on 3/4 it's nothing. ok, the attendant convinced me that on the 3/5th a technician would come to my house and finish the installation . What are the chances of this working? I don't think it's right to be treated this way and what makes me saddest are the days of lost work waiting for the technician who never came and this just makes me sad. read more

We had AT&T fiber 5Gb service for about 9 months. The internet service itself was actually fairly good; there had only been 1-2 service interruptions. But everything else was less than desirable. First, when the modem/gateway died in late September, we went to the AT&T store for a replacement, only to be told that they didn't carry the equipment in the store, so we had to call for a replacement to be shipped. That took 3 days, which was shorter than expected but nonetheless unacceptable for lack of internet services for even 1 day because we work from home. With so many AT&T stores around why couldn't they carry some replacement gateway/modems? Second, when we decided to cancel the fiber service out of necessity, the experience was even worse. Our service period normally ran from the 11th of the month to the 10th of the following month, with AT&T autopaid from our bank on the 1st in the middle. We called on Sep 30 to cancel the service, and was told that the service could only be canceled on Oct 10. We agreed even though we wouldn't have used any fiber service from Sep 30 to Oct 10. Our bank account was charged on Oct 1, but that was not the end. Yesterday, we received another bill for Oct 11 to Nov 10 and was notified that our bank will again be charged on Nov 1. So, we called AT&T (the 3rd time) to ask why another month of service while our account was already closed on Oct 10. The rep told us that we will receive a refund afterwards. So, at least a month of interest-free loan to AT&T??? The rep first defended the new bill crossed because we chose to cancel the service on Oct 10. I said no, AT&T forced us to cancel on Oct 10; we wanted to cancel it on Sep 30. Later, even the rep himself felt our experience unreasonable and helped us cancel autopay so we won't lose more money on Nov 1. read more

We had AT&T U-verse internet. It was not great but it worked and was priced right. We tried AT&T 5G but after the trial period our download speed was less than 10mbps and the upload speed was less than 1.0. Compared to the stated 100 down and 10 up this was terrible. Two calls to technicians did not help. Nor did a replacement HUB. The second tech explained the tower was at capacity, so speeds were impacted. Also, the one AT&T 5G tower was not positioned well for our getting a good signal. This is odd as we got a good signal during the trial. We were told we cannot go back to U-verse Internet as it is being phased out in favor of 5G. They should have more towers in place to handle the traffic of people moving onto 5G if that is the plan. We tried T-Mobile 5G, it is consistently delivering around 200mbps down and 30bmps down. There are three towers in our area so the traffic seems to be handled well. The price is about the same so why put up with AT&T? read more

Today was an red-letter day for me, because I was finally able to leave AT&T behind, after being a faithful customer for many years. Our internet service was never great, but it was okay. In December, we started having a lot of dropped connections, leaving significant gaps in our internet coverage. Between December and February, I called four times and got four different answers as to why it wasn't working. Each time, I had to be my own tech support and follow directions over the phone. Nothing really got better. Finally, AT&T sent out a service tech to our house, who told us that the extenders that AT&T provided were no longer supported and we would need to buy or rent new ones, on top of the already 100$ we paid for our service. Altogether, my AT&T bill was $400/month for phone internet and Direct TV. That was the straw that broke the camel's back, and I decided to cancel everything and move to another provided. I was on the phone for an hour today to cancel the service, and each person I talked to said that they would route my call to the correct department, but instead they sent me back to square one to start all over and explain my situation yet again. I needed to remember that the people I talked to certainly didn't create the problem, they were just doing their jobs, but the system is completely dysfunctional. I am so glad to be completely done with supporting this behemoth operation which has no consideration for their customer or anything resembling operational, effective customer service.
