I've stayed here a handful of times. Very simple and dated accommodations. Not expensive. Great location. Friendly staff. Amazing kitchen. Tons of charm--from the squeaky floors to the actual keys for the door. I opted for the shared bathroom accommodations, which was perfectly fine. There was some pretty significant construction noise on my outside wall that woke me early, but I've never had any noise issues before. read more

We stayed in Astor Suite 707, a corner unit with FANTASTIC views, a balcony, and a full stove/oven. Paying the optional parking lot fee, charged per stay not per night) was well worth it for this delightfully walkable city! Each morning, we had a lovely "breakfasts with a view" of yogurt, berries, cheese, hard boiled eggs, quiche, peanut butter, and biscuits. Although the kitchen range is not to be used for actual cooking, we were told it is fine for reheating, and found it perfect for our biscuits, quiche and ...chocolate chip cookies! Though a bit on the pricey side, we found walking to the Astoria Co-op wonderful for breakfast foods (and ice cream). The apartment was nicely cleaned, and the simple decor was perfect! We also enjoyed the little snacks in the fridge. Please note that the spacious, modern with historical ambiance apartment, in an incredibly gorgeous and convenient location more than makes up for the inconveniences discussed below. But I am including them in hopes the Norblad wants to perfect the experience, and also so guests might be aware. 1. While the gorgeous, huge windows lining two sides of this apartment provided lots of light and views, they do not stay up, and when we arrived in mid-July, all the blinds & curtains were left open and the afternoon sun had baked the 7th floor apartment. With creative engineering to keep the windows up, little air came into the bedroom and sleeping was made even more difficult due to the street noise. Availability of a window box fan instead of the floor tower fan which barely moves air would have helped immensely! Between closing all the drapes/blinds before heading out for the next day's adventures which kept the apartment cooler, and placing the small, round (dusty) fan we borrowed from the Norblad in front of the one bedroom window we propped open with a book, sleeping was improved due to the cool night airflow and the fan's white noise masking the street sounds. The bedding was quite comfortable, but the mattress was quite soft. And while the towels were also very soft, they were barely absorbent. (If the hotel uses fabric softener for towels, I'd suggest stopping as it is counterproductive to absorbency.) 2. Concerning Trash & Recycling, info about what can be recycled, and where to put our T/R would have been helpful instead of letting our can get full for the cleaning staff to dump. 3. Please consider installing a wall hung coat rack as there is no closet available near the entry. I imagine that on rainy days, hangin wet jackets would especially be appreciated. 3. Maintenance overdue: * The freezer is due for defrosting. Heavy ice buildup put strain on appliances. * The bathroom sink does not drain properly. * The toilet paper holder is missing from the wall, presumably where the two large holes in the drywall remain. (If not already done, perhaps the cleaning staff could be tasked with or reminded to let maintenance know when things need attention.) We really had a wonderful time in the Astor Building and look forward to a staying again next time! It is such a charming and convenient location!!! read more

On this trip to the wonderful city of Astoria, I stayed again in the Astor Suites in Dolly Pop, an 8th floor room that has a great view of the river. I appreciated the blinds on the windows, being able to open those windows to let the fresh river air into the room, and my comfortable bed. These rooms are basically like small apartments, but I never heard my neighbors, which I really appreciated. I prefer this type of arrangement to the average hotel experience, which is often underwhelming. And when I'm on vacation, I want to get away from everything. In the Astor Suites, I definitely can do that. read more

This was a solid choice for a short overnight stay in Astoria last month. The downtown location invited exploring of the surroundings, and although it was a Sunday night into Monday morning, the strong character of the town was still immediately apparent. The "cabin" room was effective for me as a solo traveler and offered a more comfortable than expected bedding experience. Sharing the bathroom facility in the hallway was efficient and not problematic. I might have enjoyed utilizing a larger kitchen space, but others seemed to be comfortable with the arrangement. I found the staff to be helpful and personable throughout the lodging experience. I did feel that the hotel's follow up efforts through email AND text were excessive and would have preferred a single email survey option or something like it. I would consider staying here again if given a chance to return to Astoria. Thank you! read more

This was our second time at Astoria and our first time at the Norblad. Last time we stay at the Commodore which is similar but quite frankly I liked the Norblad Hotel better. It is a older building and its one floor BUT its upstairs so be prepared for that. Its in the a great part of downtown so its easy to just walk everywhere. The staff was wonderful and the shared bathrooms were always clean. Our room was quaint and perfect for us just being there to sleep. It had a little table which was a perk. The biggest thing I appreciated is the shared kitchen which sounds funny but leftovers where in a refrigerator and we could warm them up. That is huge in the hotel world. read more

I've never stayed in a hostel-style space like this, but I was very impressed. I booked at cabin light, which did not have a bathroom in the room. I read the reviews beforehand and every said they had no issues with the shared bathroom. I had the same experience! Never had to wait to use a bathroom or the shower. Both were clean and well-maintained. The rooms were very cozy and cute. Common space is warm and inviting, and they had a fire in the fireplace in the morning. A shared community kitchen/fridge was another nice touch. We brought a white-noise machine which was definitely useful, though there were packages of ear plugs provided in the room. We stayed for Festival of Dark Arts in the Astor Building in the Joshua Tree suite on 7th floor. The bathroom and kitchenette were well appointed. I wish there was a comfy chair or recliner to hang out in. There was just the bed and table and chairs to eat at. The view to the Megler Bridge and the town up the hill was nice. Check in was easy across the street. There is no elevator in the building to check in. The Astor Building had a very fast elevator. We plan on staying with the Norblad when we go back again. read more

We stayed here for the Goonies anniversary weekend. I wasn't the one who booked the hotel, so I wasn't super into the idea of shared bathrooms or showers, but it turned out perfectly fine! We just went to vegas a couple weekends ago and our experience here was so much better than staying at the mgm in vegas. The rooms were obviously much cleaner and the bathrooms and showers were as well and even with the hotel being fully booked there were only a couple times there was someone in the bathroom or shower when we were trying to use it but even then it was just a couple minute wait. Cisco (sorry if that's the wrong spelling lol) at the front counter was super kind and helpful our entire trip. He's a cool dude!! Will definitely be staying here again if we come back to Astoria. read more

Service was good and staff was helpful. However, I didn't do my research! This is a hostel! I was more concerned about a pending surgery and was just looking for a quick overnight. After looking at several sketchy motels we found this one. After circling the building I discovered that you had to climb a flight of stairs to get to the lobby. I then discovered that the bathrooms are NOT in the rooms. Good news though....the rooms were nice and reflected this historic building nicely. The bathrooms were clean and acceptable. 3.5 stars. The staff 5/5 stars. The staff was so nice during check in and check out and made the process very fun and easy. They gave us the run down on community spaces and even have record players you can borrow for your room. This hotel is part hostel so you can also choose rooms without bathrooms just sinks and use the community showers and bathrooms if you choose. I loved the overall retro vibe and also the fact that they promote not watching tv or being in your phone. My fiancé and I had a very nice night being unplugged and hanging out and reading which was an awesome night for us! The downsides for me was the sink was severely chipped in the porcelain. The tile in the bathroom floor also needed a little work. The other thing to be very aware of is this building is very old so the walls are pretty thin. You can hear everybody coming and going all the time. I think that's just a given with older hotels though. Overall really did enjoy our experience though. read more

whether you're an introvert or an extrovert, this place is going to make you happy! it's clean, got a great vibe and cool community spaces including a shared kitchen for all to access, very friendly staff and a great location. you'd have to sleep at fort george or blue scorcher bakery to get any closer to those two amazing businesses. as a matter of fact, the proximity of the hotel norblad might make you want to roll out or into bed after patronizing them :) key point here: do not sleep on a visit to each----both are amazing! easy peasy to make an online reservation and don't worry about the street parking. it's 2 hrs and free anytime between 9am-4pm. i had no trouble getting parking essentially right in front of the hotel entrance and underneath my room both days i stayed there. even if i hadn't been that lucky. my car would easily have only been half a block away. if you're coming from the big city where you may be used to paíd overnight parking lots or parking apps, there was none of that. it was just so easy it made me yearn for times when things in our daily lives weren't so complicated. as for the places to hang out, there's a cool central area in the lobby with a fireplace and a ton of records. the shared bathrooms looked just as clean as my private one and every day i would see the housekeeping staff hard at working doing the laundry or cleaning rooms that had been vacated that morning, the ice maker in the kitchen was a godsend to be able to access ahead of day trips and i think they also have a pot of coffee brewed each morning. i will definitely come back here! one last thing i will say, without naming names: i had done a fair amount of research of places i might want to stay in town ahead of making this booking. at first, my goal was to stay on the water but i read some reviews of noisy places, thin walls, loud stellar sea lions partying on their own accord and with much higher prices than the norblad, i chose to stay here. while in town and on walks, i made sure to go by the two other places that i'd identified. one was much larger, red in color (does this help you know which one i'm talking about?) and essentially immediately west of the bridge, it looked fancier than i'm used to but lovely, if that's your thing. it didn't look like it would have thin walls or a lot of extraneous noise. the other place is by one of the breweries down on the water, with a clear view to three sea lions who seemed mighty content to be hauled out on the wooden platform both times i stopped by. this place has a bar and outdoor seating which looked nice enough for an afternoon drink but the string of rooms i noticed are directly on the trolley path and right where early morning walkers and runners might be. suffice it to say, i was quite happy with the choice i made to stay at the norblad, i also don't think i would've been as happy with the on street parking options at the second place i investigated. hopefully these insights help others in making informed decisions when deciding where to stay overnight in astoria, but i had such a wonderful couple of days and lucked out with the fall weather, so maybe i'm just looking at everything with rose colored glasses?! read more

COVID reivew: This was the first hotel I stayed at when places started to re-open. I enjoyed my stay at the Norblad because it is in a great location, within walking distance to everything. They are also dog-friendly, which was a huge plus to me, because I do travel with my dog everywhere. There was no actual parking for the hotel, but I was able to park my car within the residences and nearby streets for free. I enjoyed the decor of the hotel, it is definitely a modern boutique hotel. For my dog, they had dog bowls and a dog bed that I didn't even request, so I thought this was a nice touch. The front desk clerk was very friendly and provided us with a list of recommendations, since it was our first time in Astoria. I felt that Norblad Hotel was clean and I like that they had hand sanitizer at the entrance of the door. Overall, I felt safe staying here and would definitely stay here again on my next time in Astoria. read more

Booked this place as last minute based on plan changes. We were fortunate to find street parking right out front. The whole parking thing was confusing as it is all two hour on the street until 6pm and I assumed maybe the hotel had some sort of allocated spots but that is not the case. The area is hopping so there is no guarantee you will park close. There is no elevator and it is three flight of stairs so be prepared. The hotel is beautiful and steeped in history. We booked a suite with a private bathroom. The room was great with a couch, chair and king size bed. The windows were huge and old. No screens in these between you and outside. It was a warm day and there is no ac so between the breeze and the ceiling fan we got it to a comfortable temperature. There is no TV but they offer iPads if you so desire. The bed was amazing! They really invested in quality there. The bathroom was beautiful and had everything we needed. There was a small fridge in the room but they offer a community kitchen with a huge fridge and all amenities you would need. This place is different as they have a hostel type setup mixed with rooms with private bathrooms and some short term rentals all together but it worked great for us. Walls are thin and street noise is easily obvious but we popped in the complementary ear plugs and sank into the bed with no problems. The area is super walkable for shops and food offerings which was great because we were afraid to move the car and lose our spot. I would absolutely recommend this as a stellar option if you are staying in Astoria! read more

If you can tough it out without a TV and a private water closet, you'll be happy. They provide an ipad with movies, an in room sink, along with bathrobes. We've all been to restaurants where the staff hasn't quite finished wiping down the table. It's fine. You know the table isn't your personal property, you're only borrowing it for the next little while. There's no expectation of at least a nod to exclusivity. Now imagine going into your hotel suite after checking in and finding the bed unmade. Different feeling, right? Are those clean sheets, someone else's sheets? What's the deal? I don't know. It's kinda gross. This was the experience of my wife and I on our anniversary trip to Astoria. Doesn't make you want to stay here any longer. So of course I called the front desk. The man I spoke with didn't express very much concern about this. Maybe this is usual in the post-lockdown days? I don't know. Nor did he even apologize. I assumed we'd be moved to another suite but we weren't. He said he would call and look into it and I asked him to call me back and simply LET ME KNOW WHAT WAS HAPPENING. He never did. Someone from the housekeeping staff showed up after a while and stripped the bed and made it up freshly but for me it was too late and the whole vibe was ruined. The only Norblad Hotel person who apologized was the woman from housekeeping. We determined the rest of the suite had been cleaned and I tried to calm down from the apparent lack of concern on the part of anyone in any position of authority. There we no apologies, no attempts to make things right. Nothing. Maybe they were too busy playing records ironically? The hotel is fine. As I said, we rented one of the suites. Someone who undoubtedly has hip credentials decorated the room in mid-century furnishings and ironic photos of Barbie, Ken and friends dolls around a pool and at a snazzy cocktail party. Maybe they were too busy decorating to notice how dirty the windows are and how it compromises the view over part of downtown, the Columbia River and the Willapa Hills. You can always find flaws, especially once I had been primed as described above. This place relies heavily on superficialities for cache and seriously lacks any apparent training in any culture of service. I was there on 06/23/23. I will never stay here again. read more

Know the details & enjoy your stay. This spot exceeded my expectations & I will absolutely be staying here again. The vibe was great, Cisco was fantastic and answered all questions at check in. Yes, shared toilets/showers. Not an issue. There are like 4 toilets & 2 showers I believe, I never had to wait to use either. Everything was perfectly clean. Each time I walked into my room, I could smell the cleanliness of the linens. I'm super sensitive to smell - it wasn't over powerful or perfume like. Just clean. It's basic, not frills, but a swanky vibe. No television- doesn't hurt my feelings at all. It's within walking distance of Fort George, food carts, Reveille Ciderworks, as well as the weekend market. It wasn't too noisy on a Saturday night, and they leave early plugs in your room. Super thoughtful being you ARE downtown. I was very impressed, I wasn't sure I'd like it as much as I did. One of the two showers took a little long to get hot water, but it came. They do provide towels for you. I have zero bad or negative to say. I can't wait to stay again! read more

4.5 stars. I really enjoyed my stay at the Norblad Hotel. It's a small cute, modern hotel. My room was clean and the bed was comfortable. The room has a flat screen tv, table, chair and closet. The room also has a sink because the toilet and showers are communal, which I did not have an issue with since they were all very vary clean and I never had any issue waiting to use it. My only issue with my room was hearing the loud truck(s) outside my window at night/ early morning. Check-in was quick. The front desk guy (Matt? He was an extra in Ring 2) was friendly and recommended great places for me to go to. The lobby area has a bunch of sofas and I saw some board games. It's located in a convenient spot in town. You can pretty much walk to a lot of restaurants and stores. There's free street parking. The hotel does not have an elevator. You will need to walk up a set of stairs to get to the hotel. read more

Don't expect a typical hotel, and read up on this place first! This isn't a traditional style hotel - the showers and bathrooms are shared. They were clean and well stocked for our stay. -parking is street parking only. Read the info on their site for their recommendations. We only stayed one night so we checked in at 4pm and left at 11am. It's a 2hr max during 9am-6pm so if you're staying multiple nights you'll have do arrange something else for daytime parking. -kitchen is clean and has most anything you could want. The reason I docked one star is: -the floors (at least in our room) are incredibly squeaky. I mean SO loud! -there is a large gap under the room door so you can hear everything happening all around you. -it was 85 degrees outside and there's no AC. Thankfully we got a room facing east so we got shade and kept our windows open the whole time, but the cheaper rooms are facing the inside of the building and I can only imagine how toasty they got. Cisco was kind and helpful and provided great service! The room was SUPER clean! From what I've found, the "boutique-style" hotels in this area don't have AC and some have the same shared bathroom/shower areas. And most have the same parking situation. So this is pretty standard. Just know what you're getting into when booking :) read more

This was a super cute hotel. You have your own room with a bed, table, sink, closet, and giant window. There aren't any showers or toilets in the room but the bathrooms and showers are right outside the room in a hallway. There is no tv in the room but they have record players and iPads available complimentary. It's located right in the middle of downtown so walking distance to breweries, restaurants, and shopping. There is a kitchen for guests to use as well. Very clean and the front desk staff was welcoming. read more

Honestly if you know what you're in for - you'll have a good time. Yes it's noisy. It's downtown Astoria - trucks drive in the morning. The brewery across the street turns on music early in the morning. If you're looking for a cozy sleepy place this ain't it. The design and feel of the hotel was unique and modern. The shared bathrooms were not an issue, to be fair ours was next door so we didn't have to walk far but it was always clean and stocked. We LOVED the huge windows. They don't have insect screens but I actually really liked that because I could peak out of the window. It was fun :D Although if I had kids - I'd probably be worried if they opened windows lol The staff are super helpful and friendly! The hotel is clean, unique, great location. We walked to our dinner, breakfast, the shore. Astoria is so charming. We loved it. We would def come back! read more

The Norblad is part hotel, part hostel. It's no-frills but centrally located. I've stayed there before, and it was no-frills-fine. This week, my wife and I were checking into the Norblad for a rare getaway, and were casually informed at check-in that the water would be off in the whole building for 8 hours the following day. No offer to allow us to cancel our non-refundable reservation, no offer of a discount, not even an offer of a water bottle so we could brush our teeth or flush the toilet after they turned the water off. My wife woke up early (on our one full vacation day ) to shower before they turned the water off. She works hard and was really looking forward to a lazy morning. I spent our whole trip asking the front desk person to put me in touch with the manager. I asked before they turned the water off, while it was off, after it was back. The manager was elusive our whole stay - never available. I ended up chatting with him while we checked out. Dude was unapologetic, told me that he couldn't give me a discount, and generally seemed to not care at all that we had such a bad experience. I understand that they had a plumbing issue that needed to be resolved. In my experience, management is about how you handle things when they inevitably go wrong. This was a bad disruption of our stay, materially diminished the value of the accommodations, and dude couldn't even be bothered to say "I'm sorry this impacted your trip". Maybe he was just super high, but I don't think I've ever talked to someone in a management role that was more apathetic and passive. He didn't give a damn that we had a bad stay. So, dear reader, beware. If everything goes right, your stay at the Norblad might be no-frills-fine. If something goes wrong, however, the manager will run and hide and pretend that nothing happened. read more

This is our second time staying at the Norblad. We have been extremely happy with our stays on both occasions. As others have said - this is not a traditional hotel so it's important to do your research before booking. With that said, the staff is always exceptionally friendly, and most importantly, the rooms and bathrooms have always felt clean. It's in a great location and really is a perfect jumping off point for experiencing Astoria. We love taking advantage of the record players and vinyl records they have on hand! One of the biggest reasons we continue to book here is that they allow pets! Despite that, the place doesn't feel like a dog kennel, which we appreciate. The carpets, floors and furniture are well maintained. The building itself is cool too. An old, historic Astoria building. They don't make them like that anymore! We'll be back! read more

Cockroaches in the room. Front desk gal did her best, but after calling and telling her manager about there being cockroaches in the room. The manager told her to tell us we already received a discount, the 10% received by booking directly online. This was as good as was being offered... Never offered a different room, left right after, don't need to have cockroach eggs brought home etc. if there was in one room and being ignored, they will be in yours at night. Never heard from anyone after leaving, they were happy to charge the full amount the next day though, credit card charge disputed. No response to that either. read more

Fantastic service, clean, and fun! Vanessa was very helpful in recommending places to eat and drink. She also was very kind and chatty! The room itself was well furnished and clean. It had a couch that could fold down to be like another bed too. There is a kitchen where you can cook, store leftovers in the fridge, or purchase some food as well. Bathrooms and shower rooms are clean and have cute wallpaper. There are no TVs in the rooms but you can check out an iPad and watch Apple TV on them. You can also check out a record player and vinyl and listen to them in your room as well. All free! It gives a similar vibe as a hostel does, but a bit more refined. Not accessible as there are two flights of stairs and I did not notice an elevator. Would absolutely recommend! read more

In the books as "Most Unique Stay". Front desk area is a room lined with vinyl records, a gas fire place and retro couches. I'm into it. Fella at front desk was pretty great and told us all the pertinent details. We thought the community kitchen would have a fridge, but since it didn't we able to keep it in the office fridge. Only we wouldn't be able to access it from 10pm til 9am, door is locked. If we really wanted something we could ring someone during those hours though. Next morning I go to get the cream for my coffee. I didn't even have to ask, gal at front desk gets it for me. I say morning...no response. I than ask if she wouldn't mind retrieving a few other items of mine from the fridge. She sits back down at her computer. I wait a moment and repeat. No response. Another gal who works their says her name and repeats what I said. She retrieves the items. No response to my thank you, expression neutral. Sits at computer with back to me. Even though this is not the customer service I'm use to, I went back to my room and had a good chuckle at the quirky moment. Important details: community kitchen has most things but a fridge. Self service laundry room is available, I believe coin operated. No specific parking lot, we found one a block over. Two bathrooms and one shower for my floor but surprisingly always available when needed. TV has cable and WiFi is available. I believe the pricing before tax was $70 a room, $30 a bed. Really enjoyed the stay, wished they had a hot tub. read more

First let me say that we have stayed at Norblad three previous times, and had good experiences. It's an affordable and generally comfortable option in Astoria. Our last stay was a big disappointment. As other reviews mention, one room (207) is right across from reception. We had stayed in this room before, and it's not pleasant. You can hear every word of conversation at check-in, it's directly across from a noisy brewery, and it's a lot smaller than the other cabin rooms. For this stay, we called Norblad a couple weeks in advance to request any room except for 207. The front desk said it was no problem, and confirmed that we would be in a room on another side of the building, facing Exchange street. When we checked in, we were handed keys to... 207. We were flabbergasted. They had no record of our conversation/request, and the hotel was fully booked and so they couldn't move us. Seems like a pretty big hospitality faux pas to assign a guest to exactly the room they asked not be in. The best they could do was a 20% discount. Appreciated, but this experience damaged my trust in Norblad and it's unlikely we'll come back. read more

Great spot for low-maintenance travelers! Clean, charming hotel with European-style bathrooms and showers, with a full community kitchen available for guest use. Pros: clean, HOT water in shower, comfy beds, huge windows, right downtown, walking distance to everything, iPads with Apple TV available, vinyl LPs and record players available!! Cons: Bathrooms are not heated (bring slippers!), and staff is loose on mask compliance (theirs, not visitors). Pro tip: Let the shower run as it took a LONG time to get hot when outside temps were below freezing. (Then it was *very hot* and nice!) Note: 2nd story walk-up, no elevator. First thing's first, I was majorly apprehensive about staying at a hotel with a hostel attached. I thought it would be all dirty communal restrooms and weirdos. Happy to report that nothing could be further from the truth. This might have been my most favorite place during our road trip. We booked a suite which had it's own private bathroom, bedroom, closets, and bathrobes. The whole place, hostel or otherwise, was so fantastically decorated. Lots of records, communal areas (with orange doors signifying their use), tall ceilings, heat, and everything else in between. If anything, it felt like we were staying in a boutique hotel. Kind of crazy when you think about it since you're in the middle of nowhere. The awesome reception staff had great recommendations. On top of that, you're a hop skip and away from a fantastic brewery and restaurants. I couldn't recommend this place any more. Now, when in the world am I ever going to go back to Astoria? read more

So when I first stayed here was about 11yrs ago. It wasn't to bed then but still a bit ruff. BUT now, let's just say WOW. It is a lot nicer. Rooms are clean as well as the community bathroom and shower room. Beds are so comfortable and the atmosphere is relaxed. And the staff is nice and friendly. 100% I would stay here again. Stopped here for a night before a longer airbnb rental situation - I was so eager to get out of town, I decided to leave a day early. I had already scoped out the place online, but drove up and snagged the last remaining room for the night. First of all, a+ on the covid stuff, felt clean and safe the whole time. I brought my pooch, so we had a "cabin" room that was spare and easy to settle into. The service was top notch, everyone was so friendly and they treated my dog like royalty. :) Cisco was particularly welcoming - he took the time to write out a list of great local places to hit and later that night we ran into him at a local bar with some of his friends and I felt at home and welcome. i just did two reviews of restaurants that were disappointing, and realized I forgot to review The Norblad after staying there for two nights in October. (And, I didn't want anyone to think I am a grumpy old lady, ha ha!) I did a lot of research for affordable, CLEAN places to stay, and IMHO, unless you are out to impress your sweetheart, or someone else is footing the bill, The N is the BEST deal in Astoria - and, centrally located. Their regular rooms are very reasonably priced ($67!), with toilets and showers in the hallway, but everything was very clean, and it wasn't an inconvenience. Nice touch: two luxury weight, cotton robes in the closet, for use by guests. Spacious room, a comfy queen sized bed with comforter, a futon to sit on, and a table with chairs in the corner. My room was quiet; my friend heard street noise in the corner room with more windows. You need to be capable of walking up & down 2 flights of stairs, but I am 73, my companion is 80, and we didn't have a problem with that. All rooms are on one floor. Friendly young staff, morning coffee/tea/hot chocolate; a fireplace roaring in the lobby (guests can bring in wine & snacks to enjoy there), and a kitchen with frig for use by the guests. Astoria prices, in general, are high, since it's a tourist destination, and although The Norblad does have some high priced rooms, they also have these secret bargains! It is the oldest, continuously running hotel in Astoria, which is way cool! During my stay, there was no evidence of it being a party hotel. Free street parking right up the hill one block. Call the hotel directly for the best rate. (By the way, I am from NYC, and pretty picky, ha ha!) Climb Astoria Column: it's worth the view! read more

one of my favorite hotels in the country. literally a home away from home. at least that's what it feels like. I always request the same corner room and they're usually able to accommodate me. I love the simple layout so much and the bedding, pillows and mattress are dreamy. it's also the first hotel I've stayed in during covid and wow - I felt extremely safe. impeccably clean and all precautions taken. would return in a heartbeat. and I already have a reservation for next month.
