We have passed the Astoria Crest Motel many times on our way to Astoria, and always thought it would be such a great spot if they fixed the place up. The owners must have thought so, too, because they spent the last year undergoing some serious renovations and officially rebranded as the Herrondale Hotel! We stayed on a Friday night in July to celebrate our first wedding anniversary. We booked last minute and didn't want to spend $350+ on a hotel in town, so decided to try this place out. It was a good ~$100 less than other nearby hotels, and the pictures of the renovation looked beautiful. Here's where this place gets stars: The service was excellent. We mentioned in our booking that we were celebrating, and arrived to a chilled bottle of wine in our room (a very nice gesture, although neither of us drink. Worth including a N/A option in the future!). The woman at the front desk was very kind and welcoming, and gave us a brief tour of the grounds. The renovations spared no expense. The hotel was very thoughtfully designed with premium touches, from the beautiful bathroom tiles, to cozy Parachute robes (when I say the nicest robe I've ever worn, I mean it), to the whisper quiet split AC unit. The before photos of this place painted a picture of a dingy roadside motel, but the renovations brought a clean, luxury coastal vibe. The view is unbeatable. We've splurged before on a riverview room at Bowline but the riverview option here includes sweeping views of the mountains on the Washington side. It's a perfect spot to watch the sun set. The price is competitive! I hope it continues to stay lower than other hotels in the area. Here's where I took stars away: The bed we got was the firmest mattress I have ever felt. I understand people have varied preferences for beds, but this one felt objectively stiff and uncomfortable. I've read a number of reviews saying that the beds at Astoria Crest were super soft, so I am guessing new mattresses were purchased during the renovation. I am not sure if all of the beds are like this, but the lack of comfort of the bed is making it difficult for us to imagine returning. And last but not least, the biggest offense: the hotel blasted music outside all. night. long. We were told that the common area with adirondack chairs and a firepit was open until 11pm, so when we got into bed at ~10pm and heard the speakers still playing music at a considerable volume, we assumed they would turn it off at 11. We were unfortunately incorrect. The music, which was a selection of loud, energetic jazz, went through the entire night. I would like to give them the benefit of the doubt and say it was perhaps a mistake that it was left on all night, but if this is not the case I need to urge that this is not a practice they continue. We would have loved to sleep with our door open to enjoy the breeze off the river, but even with the door closed you could hear the music (AND with the TV on, AND with ear plugs in. No exaggeration). If I were to return, I would ask for a room as far away from the common area as possible, but again, I really hope this is not something they continue doing. A couple of details that aren't deal breakers and could be easily remedied: only one set of bath towels was provided in the room, which means we didn't have an extra set to bring down to the hot tub. Would have been nice! There's also nowhere to get water outside of the bathroom tap. I would have loved to receive some sort of carafe of water and a place to refill it. Overall, we had a great experience at the Herrondale until it was time to go to sleep. The renovation is still very new so we hope things improve as we would love to return! read more

This is the perfect overnight stop for a dog friendly road trip. The rooms are clean and large with a perfect grassy area in front for the dogs. The view is iconic and literally the highlight of the stay. The patios lead you on to a shared grassy lawn so very convenient for dog people. It's on the outer area of town so nice and quiet, but just a minute away from three main streets and the river walk. read more

Clean, older hotel, with some upgrades. Breakfast of waffles, items to toast, juice, coffee and oatmeal available. The only protein is a hard boiled egg. A nice jacuzzi large enough for 6 comfortably. Plenty of indoor and outdoor patio seating with a great river view. The room was clean with a mini frig and table for two. The mattress.....so soft my small frame sunk. Definitely ask about the mattress if you like firm. read more

Man. I hate writing negative reviews, but here we go. My family has stayed here for decades , my mom once calling it "Astoria's hidden gem of a hotel." It's inexpensive, amazing view, okay breakfast. About 6 months ago my husband, two kids and myself roll into town on a busy weekend. When checking into our room there was only one queen bed. Husband goes back to lobby to let them know we booked a room with two beds. They said they weren't sure what happened but they (and every hotel in Astoria) were booked for The Weeknd. So, we kept the room, we ran to Walmart, grabbed two inflatable pool lounge floaties and put my kids on the floor, sleeping on the floaties. We adapted and overcame, perhaps the booking was out fault, booking a room with only 1 bed. In June we book a room for another busy weekend in October (now). I got a phone call from then in September saying they were going to be doing renovations to the building during our stay. The man I spoke to said he would put us in a "non-view" room instead. No big deal, at least we'd have a roof over our head on an incredibly busy Astoria weekend. Last night I call to let them know we were rolling into town late. The guy, I'm certain it was the same guy I spoke to in Sept, said we weren't on the reservation list. He said the only thing he saw on his end was a cancellation. "What do you mean we don't have a room!!!?" All he could say was "Sorry but we have a couple rooms with single beds." I asked for two rooms at the cost of 1, so we could all fit. He said "No, and that comes from management." Although no manager present when I asked to speak to one. I was at a loss. We had been on the road for hours and still had a couple hours to go. Hotels in town were all booked so we scrambled to find a room in Seaside. We are just so disappointed at their fault and lack of help trying to problem solve. When the man canceled our room to move our reservation to another room he never followed through to finish what he started needing to put us in another room. read more

Well 2 days before check in I get a message they are canceling my reservation due to the building being under construction. Did they just figured it out 2 days before? Didn't know that a week ago, so maybe we could get something else. Now everything is super expensive and no money back in my account to pay for another room somewhere else. Refund can take days to get into bank account . What horrible customer service and great way to ruin a trip FYI: Don't take reservations for a building under construction not knowing if it will be completed in time. $1M views for $130 price! This is our second stay here and will be our go to whenever we want to hang out in Astoria and close to the ocean. The staff is super friendly and accommodating. The rooms are clean and quaint although softer bed. The hot tub is nice and it's conveniently just outside of town for a long walk or short drive. read more

We had a wonderful stay here over Thanksgiving weekend! The room was big, the breakfast was awesome -- and the views from this place are epic. Don't go in with high expectations of a fancy hotel. This place is super clean, but furniture and rooms are definitely dated. No fan in the bathroom (but a window) and our suite felt a little interesting with the fridge in the bathroom sink area. But the room is massive and very comfortable for chilling out and looking at the view (which again, is pretty epic). Breakfast had a waffle maker and lots of tasty choices. Definite bonus. And the eating area was comfortable and never too crowded. This hotel is on the end of town farthest away from Seaside, but it also is kind of secluded-- which means you won't be in the bustle of downtown Astoria like many of the other options at the same price point. If you're going to Astoria, I highly recommend you stay here! read more

What a cute motel! Our stay was so cozy and comfortable. The staff was friendly and they were helpful in answering our questions. The room we were assigned had a balcony which had a lovely view of the water. It was so relaxing drinking our coffee and watching the fog roll in on the water. You could even hear the sea lions barking from pier! Although the room decor was a bit dated, it was a minor detail because the room was clean and the property itself looked well taken care of. This place is a gem! This is a small older motel, but right on the Columbia River where the barges anchor at night. No other hotels or buildings in view. It is on the site of Lewis and Clark's Expedition on a scenic walking trail. The motel has been remodeled, inside and out. Beds are comfortable, very clean rooms. Hairdryers are available for the asking and bath amenities set up. Every second floor room has a full view of the river. They serve the basic continental breakfast included, indoor and outdoor seating. I don't know why it has a hotel rating of just two stars. This place has every extra the newer larger hotels have at less cost. Did I mention the hot tub in the patio overlooking the river. This is our second visit. We will stay here every time we are in Astoria! read more

Large room with a small fridge and microwave. Comfortable bed with a foam mattress topper made for comfortable night's sleep. Only 3 small pillows (smaller than a standard pillow). Bring your own additional pillows if you're picky. Balcony with a water view. Not close to anything, but just a short drive into town. They provided an 'ol school box fan and it's all that we needed during our stay. Because of Covid *boooooo* we had to make reservations for the outdoor hot tub (one party at a time), in 15 minute increments. We met some cool peeps during our stay so we reserved back to back and enjoyed 30 minutes in the outdoor hot tub and it was plenty of time *smiles* Very friendly staff. They let me borrow a bottle opener. Ice is located at the far end/corner of the property and it requires a room key to get into the laundry room where the ice machine is located. They do have a continental breakfast downstairs in the main office area every morning until 10am. The room coffee was *eh*, but the coffee downstairs in the morning was much better. They had the standard yogurt, bagels, toast, cream cheese, make your own waffle and a couple of apples and bananas available to choose from. Oh and a dispenser for orange and cranberry juice seemed to be the standard. Not at all fancy, but better than nothing. Everything else is just a short car ride away. I love finding non-corporate feeling places to stay/eat. This place is super reasonably priced, a little off the beaten path and most definitely not the Hilton *if that's what you're looking for* Taking into consideration the price, level of comfort and the spectacular view, I'd most definitely stay here again when visiting friends nearby. I will admit I booked this hotel by accident. The one I thought I was booking is higher up in Astoria, near the column. But...it's an adventure right? Location is incredible. One star just for that. View is of the Columbia, the Astoria-Megler Bridge and cargo ships moored outside your patio. Added bonus: some of them had Christmas lights on them! Another star for the outdoor jaccuzi...wowzer....strong jets and amazing view, according to hubby. Personally I refuse to freeze on the trip there and back. I have a serious aversion to cold. He lived this feature though. We slept too late to know how the breakfast is.... The last star is for the staff. Every one of them...attentive and kind. Even brought a hair dryer to the room. Now, the cons: Bed is way too soft. It was like sleeping on a sway back mare. It is also very low. Painful to get out of. Furnishings are from 1960. We will probably return...so hubby can hike the trail and enjoy tge jacuzzi...I may sleep in the couch lol. The staff is worth coming for...for sure. And the view....beautiful Oregon. read more

Here is an update from stay #2 (this time with a toddler). The views were very nice. My wife liked the hot tub a lot. The breakfast had options and was yummy. The bed was a little uncomfortable. The biggest thing I want to suggest to the owners, is they consider installing a sliding inside lock thing (I guess it's called a door security guard) for the next upgrade. Our toddler could unlock the one lock on the door and open it and run outside by himself. That was very dangerous. We pushed a piece of furniture to block the front door. read more

This is a reasonable priced motor lodge with a terrific view out the backside of the place. The folks working there were very nice and helpful. Due to the naturally cool location, there is no AC in the rooms and unfortunately the temperature was a rare 95 degrees when we stayed there. Fans were employed to get us through the first night and then the cool weather came the next day. Beautiful town. read more

There aren't many rooms, and just a handful that don't have views, so we were lucky to avoid the non-view rooms during a fully booked weekend. The staff was incredibly friendly and helpful, when we checked in we were told a number of amazing things in town. The view was certainly amazing and I would book a stay again. There are just a few small things I would change. I would love to see a hot food added to the breakfast. Right now it's waffles, muffins, bread/toast, cereal (surprisingly had individual Cocoa Puffs, so that was nice), yogurt, and hard boiled eggs. It would be perfect with a side of sausage or bacon. Parking a wasn't great when we got stuck in a tight corner, and the COVID restrictions were out of date on the website. read more

The two stars are ONLY for the view and the customer service. It stops there. The cons, and why I won't stay there again. The walls are paper thin. It was noisy. The bed is too soft with flat uncomfortable pillows and sheets that felt like laying on sandpaper. The furniture is aged. The power outlet for my phone was across the room. The only one I could even find. The tv is very small and only basic cable is included. Wifi isn't any better. No safety bars anywhere in the bathroom. Terrible shower head with little pressure. No hair dryer so in October I left with wet hair! For $150 a night I expected more with decent amenities. read more

This is the second time we have stayed there, and I can only recommend this motel if you stay in the main building. The one-floor units on the other side of the lot are AWFUL. (I guess they are the "pet-friendly?") We expected similar quality to the rest of the motel (we brought no pet) and had no idea how bad this would be - particularly as there was no price difference from the view rooms in the main building. Extremely small, dark, hot, and cramped, they are a ripoff. When you book, insist that you don't get one of these. Even if you are bringing a dog, go elsewhere - these rooms are that bad. We left a night early just to avoid spending another night. Very disappointing. We will look for other accommodations next time. read more

The room was the WORST motel room we have ever stayed in! We will NEVER stay here again. We booked a 2 day stay, an additional $15 fee per night was added for our mini dog. There was a strong mildew/sweaty odor when entering the room and felt like 90-95 degrees even with their box fan running. I immediately went to the front desk and asked for a different room and was told there were none. We were in town for a scheduled family event and had no other options to go elsewhere. We were stuck! There were only 2 small windows and a window in the small bathroom to get any ventilation. We left the fan on and came back at 10:30 PM and the room was still a stuffy, smelly 90 plus degrees while the outside temp was 67 degrees. The bottom bed sheet had a stain on it and the mattress was like a marshmallow. The whole room needs major updating. The breakfast room was clean with a nice view and had a variety of food which is the reason for giving at least one star. read more

I would give this place a zero if the app would let me. The Saturday morning manager is an a**. The worst customer service I have ever had. She threatened to have us trespassed for coming down to use the hot tub three minutes before 10. I tried to joke with the young man who went out to unlock the hot tub area but he flipped attitude instead of accepting the fact I knew we were a little early and we were headed in to wait in the lobby. The manager came out she wanted to know why I was commenting about poor customer service. Then rather than saying sorry let's resolve this she started with attitude. I did try to calm this all down but then she said something to my wife who works in the service area. The two of them then had a discussion the manager getting ruder and ruder. She then threatened trespass at this time I was ready to leave. Don't come here if you expect even reasonable customer service. read more

Honestly a great experience. Got the hotel last minute on Hotels.com and they helped us out and gave us a military discount on top of the hotels.com discounts. The service was great, the views were INCREDIBLE, the hotel was very clean, the free brekfast and coffee/hot water and tea 24/7 was very nice. VICKIE WAS AWESOME! She was working so hard in the morning to help with brekfast. Overall a great hotel even, though everything was way too short for anyone about 5'6". read more

We enjoyed our stay. Pros... The Astoria Crest Motel is a bit outside town where it's more peaceful yet not too far of a drive for food and such. The beds were reasonably comfy and the pillows quite soft. Enjoyable view, saw many cargo ships. Breakfast was super cool! They filled our order perfectly, delivered right when we requested, and even gave us a couple extra goodies. The shower has very nice water pressure, good temp controls, and the shampoo/conditioner made my hair feel nice. Cons... When the shower is running, it's very loud inside the room so if there's more than one of you in a room, plan your bathing to avoid disturbing each other. Was very clean except one friendly little spider with a web in the corner behind the door. Coffee was not very good but they provided plenty of cups, both plastic and paper. The bar soap is very strongly scented and the scent stays on your hands a bit even after a thorough rinse. The bathroom door wouldn't latch. The door to the balcony was quite hard to open/close. Overall not perfect but also not bad. I'd probably stay again if I was visiting the Astoria area again in the future. read more

Great, affordable motel just minutes from town. What sets this place apart is the view looking out over the Columbia River, it is amazing! We even saw bald eagles flying over the motel and down to the river looking for food. The rooms are basic but clean with comfortable beds. Sweet older style but updated motel. Our room was spacious, clean, and nicely comfortable. The only thing I could think of to change is the bed: is they are are super soft--so much so it was hard to roll over and hurt my back a bit. Still, Brandon & Brittany make this place an awesome experience and I will stay here again next time I come to Astoria! And don't forget to hit the hot tub in the rain--it's so fun! read more

Let me start off by saying the view is what you stay here for. It's wonderful. It's a bit out of town so you can over look it and the water. I called to ask if check in could be moved to earlier. The woman said the rooms would finish being cleaned in 1.5 hours. Yet it was clear that my Room had not been occupied as there was a ring around the toilet from the water sitting. There was also finger prints on the tv. Some of the paper items and sugar packets look like they had been handled a number of times. The internet signal was weak and I did mention it. They said it was due to weather. They do deliver breakfast in the morning, which is nice. The bed was super super soft, which I didn't mind, but thought it good to mention in the review. Out of all the places I have stayed on my trip, this room was the most lack luster. But I would come stay again for the view as the sun was setting. read more

We had a positively fantastic two-night stay here. Yes, the rooms are a little run down, and the carpets have that clammy "motel" feel. But the sheets were clean, and there was a coffee maker & mini-fridge, which were nice touches. The view was where you got your money's worth--the rooms face the river, and watching the sun set on the water was a great way to end a day. And: Jacuzzi! Loved being able to soak while watching the boats on the river. The basic continental breakfast was also a fine way to start the morning. Staff very nice as well. read more

Really enjoyed our stay, the view and hot tub was the best part! The room was a little out of date but the price is cheaper compared to other options in the area. It's definitely off the main drag but a close drive to downtown. Could use more pillows on the beds, and soap that doesn't smell like lemon cleaning product. Overall great stay! read more

Not only did our room have a view of the Columbia River, but we could see Fireworks shows across the river on July 3&4, but we got a great show on the 4th from the downtown Astoria show! The room was bery spacious and clean. There's a huge fridge and microwave too. The hotel is at the top of town so you don't have a lot of noise. I am going back next July too! Stayed here for two nights. Probably the most uncomfortable bed I have ever slept in, barely slept for two days. The pillows were like flat pieces of sheets.No room service even though the staff did not wear masks (another place trying to get away with not hiring and paying cleaning staff with the excuse of Covid) VERY SLOW Wifi when it worked, which wasn't often. Grounds and the view were nice and the room was clean upon arrival, however I would not stay there again considering the price and lack of service. read more

Nice clean motel. Beds were comfortable and the view was great. 4 stars because the SMALL tv mounted near the ceiling in the far corner of the room was useless. You couldn't watch tv from bed. If you tried watching from the couch the tv was too far away. So if you want to make use of the tv while you stay this may not be the place. Staff was nice and helpful. Continental breakfast was ok. The room deck had no privacy from the room next door. This was a big deal if you wanted to sit on the deck without hearing your neighbor. I'm not sure the price per night is worth it. read more
