We've lived in Grosse Pointe for years and have driven past Cleopatra, but never gone in. Last month we were looking for Mediterranean food and decided to try it. It's amazing! There's an oven where they bake the homemade pita so you know it's fresh. Our waiter was very polite and the food was delivered fast. I ordered delivery (via postmates) from Cleopatra during Covid-19. The menu is OK, but is kind of basic and not particularly exciting. The prices seemed high for the sides, but the main items are well priced. I ordered the shish tawook sandwich and a side of rice. The sandwich was good, and the chicken was good quality. That said, the chicken was dry. The rice wasn't very good at all. It didn't have almonds in it like most Mediterranean places do, and was undercooked. I ended up throwing most of it out which frustrated me for the price I paid for it. Overall, I probably wouldn't seek out ordering from here again. read more

We ordered the hummus and baba ghanooj to start, fatoosh salad with chicken for me, my step dad had the chicken gallaba and my mother had a bowl of crushed lentil soup. The fatoosh with the chicken was good but I enjoyed the chicken gallaba and veggies the most. I should have known to expect problems when I approached the door and a "Help Wanted" sign scribbled in poor penmanship on a sheet of notebook was posted on the door. Despite slow and clumsy service (I waited 25 mins for order, overworked cashier/waiter/bread baker burned 2 batches of bread while I was there), I've had the food in the past and it was solid. So I wait. The cashier gave me a discount on a glass of wine, that was cool. When my dinner was ready however, the bread wasn't. He asked if I wanted to wait 5 more mins for bread. At that point, I just wanted to leave. So no bread for my garlic sauce. My problem was really with my meal. I ordered lamb shank special. Meat appeared to be missing from the bone! This place is great! Food is fresh, portions are huge and they bake the pita in a giant oven right in the restaurant. We usually order some combo of shawarma and hummus/baba/tabouli and we're always happy. The sampler mezze platter is HUGE and you get to try a little of everything. My favorite Mediterranean restaurant period. The Salads are amazingly flavorful. The bread is fresh and warm and delicious, and perfectly scoops up the creamy and tasty hummus. I tend to go with the lamb shawarma and it's never failed to fill me with leftovers for the next day. The meat is tender and spiced just right, cooked to perfection. Came in for lunch. Great chicken shawarma salad!! Complimentary garlic spread (amazing could eat with a spoon for real) and spicy tomato dipping sauce kind of like salsa and pita. Also free refills on dips. Everything you could tell was made fresh to order. Got a side of grilled vegetables that were also perfection- not greasy at all and with a nice char. My dad got musaka with rice- large portion and amazingly flavorful, however not traditional if you have the greek "moussaka" in mind. This I actually really enjoyed and stole many bites of- it was primarily meat (I think lamb) eggplant and onions and peppers. there was no potato, no beshamel sauce and no layering, like what I think of as moussaka (and generally dislike). also got a pita sandwich to go. total for four people was $41. can't wait to return!! read more

Like a giant tortoise inching out of its embarrassingly barren feedin' patch toward succulent, green meadows, the East Side is finally starting to branch out food-wise. First Thai and sushi...now a Middle-Eastern joint! After a few carry-outs and a dine-in, here's my take on Cleopatra. The people there are SO nice! My server tonight was Blanca, and she was sweet, attentive, a total sweetheart. In fact the good-natured banter of the servers between themselves and with the patrons provided a pleasant backdrop to my meal-relaxing after a long day at work. The vibe there is upbeat and family friendly, points for cleanliness too. As I perused the large menu, I was served puffy bread with a tomato based sauce and my downfall...delicious mouth-waterin', breath pollutin' garlic spread. The food came out quick, though I think it could be improved. Their smoothies are a bit too diluted down with ice and in need of a hit o' honey. The baba ghanoush has an interesting, chunkier texture-decent, but needs a more garlicy, smoky bite. The sandwiches tend to be bland and dry (hit us with more tahini sauce please!) and they're smaller in size (narrow with much less filling) than you get at the other Middle Eastern places around. Across the board, portions are smaller here while prices are higher. Cleopatra is surely a pleasant place, and they're new so there's room to tweak things. read more
