This used to be a great local hangout and a place to eat a quick bite. While the weekend entertainment is still good (well, for the most part. It's starting to become a biker bar in the evenings), the menu has lost its creativity and is just low quality bar food. We used to stop in a few times a week for lunch or dinner but our recent visit will be our last. With other options popping up in the area that offer homemade high quality food at similar prices, the draft house needs to be upping their game not lowering their standards. read more

The server was nice but not very attentive. Refilled the soft drink with tea but came back to correct the mistake after the patron took a gulp. The food came out wrong and the correction came out cold as well as the other entree that was ordered and supposedly reheated. The frustration proved to be too much and we left without eating either meal. Perhaps they should stick to beer because, obviously, food is not their specialty. I love this place and frequent it often. You can sit and enjoy a meal on the restaurant side, or you can play pool and sometimes hear live music on the bar side. I prefer the restaurant side, where the walls are adorned with images from classic films, and the ceiling has a wide variety of interesting beer taps as decoration. The beer selection is very good. My only complaint alcohol-wise is that this place doesn't make good mixed drinks. I ordered a Tom Collins once that was sub-par. Stick to beer or non-alcoholic beverages (free refills on sweet tea!). The french fries here aren't that good (soft and not crispy), but they make up for this in my other two fav dishes. They have a chicken tender platter with four large pieces that is absolutely delicious. But the real show stopper for me are the fried jalapenos. Those alone are enough to make me keep coming back. I love them. The waitresses are always cute young girls from the area who will chat you up without being too annoying. Just the right amount of southern friendliness. Overall, I would highly recommend this place for a beer and a bite to eat. read more

This place was good and consistent when I moved to the 40/42 area in 2009. Five years later the food isn't as good and the service needs improving. I do like the selection of beer there and there are plenty of TVs to watch a game. Unfortunately the bar area is limited with space for tables. This place is so hit or miss. I want to give th bar staff 5 stars but the resturant and hostess staff 2. I been there to have a girls night out the past to Fridays, and the resturant side has rushed us, ignored us and left us high and dry. But when ever I sit on the bar side, they take such good care of us. Food is always good, and beer is nice and cold. Very awkward coming in. No one at hostess desk and waited five minutes before WE found someone to seat us. Only one waitress dining area. Food was okay.....caution on ordering kids meal pasta with butter. very small serving and doesn't come with anything else except a drink! No bread or salad. Scott, Thank you for your time, comments and willingness to fix issues. I believe the visit was either the 7th or 8th of this month, weighing more towards the 8th at around 8pm. I do not have the receipt so I do apologize. We sat on the restaurant side in the booth by the side door, there were 4 of us, and had a server with medium length dark brown hair. I would like to mention one thing. I had family wanting to stop by there and have dinner Friday night because it was on our way home. I figured, knowing the industry, that I could give it another try. Sometimes there are just those "off" days. We had a great server, I chose a wrap this time and while it could have been warmer it was still good. Nothing was over cooked and everyone seemed to enjoy their food. The best part, I didn't feel horrible after eating like the first time which was probably a result from eating hamburger beef that wasn't cooked to the temp my body is used to. We again sat on the restaurant side and had a blonde server who's name I can't remember, because again I didn't take the receipt(bad habit) we sat in the large booth by the Hannibal picture around 8ish. The handicap parking at the new Clayton location is horrible!! Note that not all handicap people are in wheelchairs and are still able to walk, however very limited. What were you thinking when you put in those spots? Was it something where you realized at the last second that you were legally obligated to put handicap parking spots in? Ridiculous. Ok I realize this is a Johnston County establishment so I did not expect much. I guess I should not have ordered a glass of red wine- they served it to me in what was supposed to pass for a "stemless " wine glass- but it was really more of a small tumbler- I thought this was funny but well ok. Food took over 40 minutes to come out- kind of long considering not real busy. BUT really- we ordered two blue cheese burgers. The menu said" blue cheese crumbles "- that is how it is supposed to be served on a burger. Instead we got a heavy melted thick layer of blue cheese- way too much- and it ruined the burger. The chef obviously does not know his stuff. I asked for mayonnaise on the side. Didn't get it- our waitress didn't show up until we were almost through eating. And asked if she could get us anything else. I asked for mayonnaise again. She "tossed" 1 packet of mayonnaise at my plate. Really? I asked our waitress about a small cup of mayonnaise they is normally served at a restaurant when asked for. She said" we don't do that here". And then$31 for two burgers and a glass of wine? Been here many times. We really enjoy sitting on the patio and eating. Everyone we have dealt with has been friendly and efficient. Typically I order one of their salads or one of the wraps. Food is good for the price. We've never had a problem getting a pool table however we typically go in the afternoons between lunch and dinner. The atmosphere is fun and yet family friendly. 1st time we were here was last week...EVERYTHING was amazing. New to the area, we were happy to have finally found a place to enjoy. All staff had face covering, and respected distancing. Yesterday July 5th was entirely different (right in the midst of record high Covid-19 cases), while we were able to get a table apart from the patrons that obviously didn't care about themselves, we couldn't get our server to stay out of our face. I finally got it across to her that we take social distancing seriously, so she haphazardly pulled a mask out of her pocket...covered her mouth ONLY, and continued to lean in close to us. Next thing you know, mask is hanging around her neck, and none of her face was covered. Happy we came at shift change...new waiter seemed a bit more conscious of our space and wore his mask properly. That said, we will not be back as all customers concerns are not taken seriously, so when places like this are required to close the doors once again we can't care like we did and when the doors are closed for good, so be it. ANYONE who is taking this pandemic seriously should not go here to get a break from being stuck at home. It's sad, because it really isn't that difficult to respect other's space. read more

I have lived in the area for seven years and regret that I haven't tried this place until now. The wife and I came here last night for our anniversary dinner since we both wanted to try something new and as I said I regret that we didn't come here sooner. The wire ordered the Redneck Special and I ordered the 1/2LB fried shrimp. Needless to say the food was cooked to perfection! Everything was great and I sampled the wife's ribs and they were some of the best I have ever eaten. A nice smoky flavor and falling off the bone tender. The wait staff was pleasant and the atmosphere was wonderful. I can;'t wait to come back and try some of the other menu options because I think we have found our new place to eat! read more

While we did not enjoy our visit on the restaurant side because the food was not great but we do enjoy hanging out on the bar side. If you go only expecting bar food like apps then it isn't too bad. Beer selection is decent for this area and the pool tables are great. Service on the bar side is not always the best though. read more

This is a very good pub. I read all the reviews and some were pretty harsh. For what you pay it is very very good. You can't please everyone. The variety of items on the menu is good. The prices are good. The place is clean and welcoming. The bar is big. Overall a good place. It is not the Taj Mahal, but if you want a good place to go with decent food and decent price, it is great. And a wonderful selection of beers as well. I've live in Garner for 10 years and go to the one here and have pretty much always been happy with the service and food. read more

Worst service ever!!! I used to be a regular customer and the service was good when they first opened. It has gone steadily downhill for the past 2 years. I have eaten here (in the bar area) three times in the past few months and the service was terrible all three times. A couple of the servers will ignore you for about 20 minutes before even asking for your drink order. Today I had time to drink 2 beers and the person I was eating with had finished their lunch before the server noticed that she hadn't brought my lunch. (This was about 45 minutes after I arrived.) At that point I told her not to bother and that I wouldn't be back again! read more

Not a place for people who care about their food. Been meaning to try this place for some time, but the smoke kept me away. That should have been my tip off. The smoke is gone now, so I gave it a try. The service is very good. This concludes the "pro's" part of my review. I tried the chicken parm, as their is none in glorious Johnston county. There still isn't. The size of the chicken slice was good, it was a big piece. The sauce....sauce on this dish should be on the thin side, and very spicy. Theirs was thick, and very plain. Breading, is very nice on chicken parm...this place should try to get some. There was none. I should have just ordered a piece of chicken, room temp, with mayonaise, it would have been better. The linguinie was ok. Two things that make me angry: THE WIFI WAS NOT WORKING. I got an IP, but no page loading. They couldn't fix it. I have seen this problem in places that are too cheap to get good internet. Free wifi, is no good, if it's crap wifi. Another, and this is REALLY bad, as this place has been here for SOME TIME. I'm 5'10. Really, I am. My mother had me tested. So, why, when I sit down in the both, is the table five, six inches too high? So I can eat my food like a five year old? Really, a short person would have to ask for a high chair at this place! NOT ACCEPTABLE. Other eating establishments seem to have solved this problem. Now, I can see, in some situations, where a table that is high enough, to accomodate you, and your girlfriend, sitting on your lap, and her girlfriend sitting on hers, would be a good thing, but this is not that kind of place, right? This is the kind of place, where you bring your kids for a party, so you don't care, or meet some friends and get drunk, so you don't care, or bring your kids and get drunk, so you don't care. This is quickly becoming one of my fav's..The restaurant is divided by a main dining area and the bar, lounge and pool table area..The Burgers are off the hook good, appetizers are also good..Just as good if not better than Carolina Ale house. Stephanie is a great waitress and will check on you to make sure that you do not go without something. Tons of pool tables available and the bands are decent on the wknds. Can't wait for our Clayton location to be built; hopefully it will be as good as this one ! read more

So the service was pretty good..had multiple servers in bar area. The medium burger I orderedwas burnt sent it back and then they brought me the wrong burger....correct burger finallywas still not medium. I asked if they were 1/2 lb burgers but the server didn't know. The atmosphere was good, sat at the bar and they did just open. Give the kitchen a couple weeks. Waited for food for 30 minutes. Food was ok. The ribeye on garlic bread they need to say it is opened face. Beer selection is great. I could do without the people who sit where the pool tables are....they end up hovering over your booth if you sit in a booth at the bar. I've finally gotten irritated enough to write two reviews. Things have never been spectacular at the Draft House, but evidently it's getting worse. But let's start with the pros. Free live music on Saturday nights is excellent, though it's hit or miss whether it's good. But that's not there fault. I'm pleased with the opportunity to at least have the chance. Next and final pro, the location. There isn't much of a night-life in Clayton, so this is pretty much the main option. Saturday nights my bf gets off late so it's nice to take a 10 minute drive down the road instead of to Raleigh. Onward to the extensive cons. I have never seen so much inconsistency. I like the Key Lime Pie Martini (80% of the time it's made good), but it is insanely inconsistent. Sometimes too strong, sometimes creamy, sometimes very acidic... Sometimes you have a nice foam on the top, sometimes it's all runny and that's normally when it's too strong. I normally order a glass of wine because I know that it'll taste consistent through my Martini. The inconsistency continues into the wings. Sometimes overcooked, most of the time average, I've probably had the greatest range of spicy in Honey Barbecue that I have ever experienced over multiple restaurants. One time I can eat them, the next time my tongue is on fire. My stomach gets torn apart easily by spicy food and so it's a risk. I've ordered them at minimum 5 times... I'm never ordering them again. Some foods are consistently boring. The onion rings have zero flavor and taste soggy. Cheesecake tastes like it's been in the freezer for months. Mozarella Sticks were decent. BLT was also very bland... and this from the person who hates spicy food and likes most bland food. So, there isn't a very good balance going on here. The absolute worst, though, is the service. The servers, bartenders, and manager are never rude, but man are they inattentive. It's almost like they see right through you. Just be ready to wave to get their attention and stop them anytime you can because they will rarely come to your table to ask. This is consistent over the multitude of times I've been there. It doesn't matter where you sit, close to the bartenders at the bar, a table, or a booth, you're overlooked unless YOU put out the effort. I waited over 40 minutes with an empty glass without being asked if I wanted another, wanted my tab closed, or asked if I was okay. Not until 1:57, when they wanted people out did they ask me if I wanted to close the tab. You'll find signs around saying they need your credit card right away due to the number of walkouts. I guess they don't realize that the most likely reason for the walkouts is because they don't come around and ask if you need to close your tab. Normally I'm a great tipper, but this place is the second place I have ever left zero tip at. I've been here many times just to make sure. I know I should probably just take my business elsewhere, but the location is just too convenient, so my disappointment will just continue to reflect in my tips. I have server and bartender friends. I know what they go through and that they don't make much... but these people don't seem to care so I guess I won't either then. I've tried over tipping to get better service, but that doesn't work either except an extra thank you. Maybe one day I'll contact management... really, I just want to encourage people to make sure they don't walk out and get a default gratuity added. Leave something that reflects your experience. If it was great then please reinforce it so maybe they'll be great when I roll in there so I can leave something great. If they suck... don't feel forced to leave a high tip just because it makes you look bad. I just see so many servers working too hard for this service to get good tips. read more

When thinking about restaurant selections at 40/42 we always prefer Cleveland Draft House. We have gone for lunch, dinner and late night drinks. I prefer to go for lunch as the service is always quick and friendly. They have great selection of burgers and sandwiches. They also have a nice selection of beers. The servers are always friendly and welcoming. The hostesses could be a little more welcoming though. I kept writing it off as a bad day or evening but it is the same "ho hum" every time we enter and leave. I love bringing my kids here for a nice family dinner, but I also enjoy it for a quiet local date night. It is defiantly worth checking out as it is locally owned and operated and provides a superior experience to the local chain restaurants. read more
