Cleveland Plays you say?... but what do we play??? Well a little bit of everything! The staff of Cleveland Plays offers up a ton of different sports throughout the year. I've personally only taken part in their indoor/outdoor Volleyball and Kickball leagues, but I've got friends who've done Soccer, Flag Football, Softball, Euchre, and a ton of other stuff. The guy who runs CLE Plays is very nice! Always willing to work with a team if they aren't a full roster at the time they are due, and usually willing to work with you if you are having issues with payment as well. The locations for the leagues vary, but usually happen to do with Mulberrys in the flats, or whiskey island (atleast for the leagues I've been a part of) The people who play are all out for fun, they aren't here to kill people at volleyball, hurt someone while playing kickball, or slice your throat with cards during euchre.. It's really a social/sporting group that I've really enjoyed being a part of during my transition to Cleveland. read more

How many times have my friends and I gotten together and thought we should create a new Cleveland Plays...you know, one that actually is organized and updates their website. I've played several spots through Cleveland Plays. Football is a biggie. They don't post the field to play on until about Thursday before a Saturday morning plays - and that's AT BEST. Oh, and how many times have they changed the field the day of play? The fields aren't labeled. The refs don't always have updated info. They take FOREVER to update rankings and they're often wrong! I mean, seriously guys - if this is your job and we pay you a LOT for the pleasure of playing in your league - how hard is it to update a website? read more

I played kickball here for summer outdoor and winter indoor and had a fine experience and a bad experience, respectively. But overall, I do not recommend Cleveland Plays (for kickball anyway) and they aren't the only game in town. I do not recommend because: First off, you pay $440 per season, which is real expensive and $120 more than the competition (Hermes), which is competently run. You'd think with such a high service fee that the service would be good, but you would be wrong. If you have a problem or need to contact them they take their sweet time responding to you, if they bother to at all -customer service is not a priority. I had a legit grievance, brought it to John and the other dude in a timely manner (the next day) and they ignored and put me off until it was too late to do anything and then tried to make me feel bad about complaining at all. I guess I'm just one of those people that expects rules of the game to be enforced, but CP isn't of the same mind. Their refs don't always know the rules, take the time to know them, and sometimes don't enforce the rules. You are also supposed to receive a t-shirt as part of your (expensive) league fees but my teammates and I didn't either season. Other reviewers are correct in that they don't update the website with wins/losses/ranks, etc. and they take forever to get the season up. Basically, if you're interested in playing Kickball, having it correctly refereed, paying a reasonable price, receiving what is due your team and being appropriately communicated with about the league opt for Hermes Sport & Social and AVOID Cleveland Plays. read more

It's now mid-November and I am still waiting on a refund from August, when I signed up for softball but they apparently weren't able to put me on a team. No one told me this, by the way -- I just paid and then never received any info about my team or games, so had to email to find out what was going on. Turns out they didn't have enough free agents to make a team. OK, I can understand that, but I can't understand why I still haven't received a refund after following up and being promised one in September, October and November. It's really a bummer Cleveland doesn't have a better option for co-ed rec sports. read more

Sadly, they're one of the few companies in Cleveland for large-scale, organized recreational sports. It's a shame because, with a little effort by those who run Cleveland Plays, this could be a great, stress-free tool for everyone in Cleveland. Sadly, it's mostly an unorganized mess. For example, you pay a $50 fee UPFRONT for forfeits (on top of normal league fees). If your team doesn't forfeit a game that session, you're refunded that fee at the end of the session. However, it's been exactly one month/a full four weeks since the finals were played, and no team from our league has been refunded. I don't understand why they can't handle the promised refunds in a timely manner, and it seems a bit unfair to hold this money for so long. Generally, the schedules and scores are updated very, very late. We had multiple instances where our league page was not been updated for three weeks of games/scores. While this isn't a big problem, it would be nice to have an up-to-date standings page during the season. This would take minimal effort from the staff to keep this updated. There are some weeks they don't bother entering results. You'll have full sessions go by with missing scores. It takes a few seconds, but apparently our money/fees don't cover entering all of the scores. Their have also been instances in which schedules, which have been posted for weeks, were changed at the last minute with no direct notice to anyone on a team. There's also been instances in which they will schedule overlapping sessions - so, if you want to play a spring and summer session, be prepared to spend an entire night for a few weeks going to multiple games at different locations, because you'll have to jump between locations to get both games in (that's if they don't schedule your team to play at the same time at multiple locations). Fellow players have actually been able to reach a Cleveland Plays representative on the phone about a problem, were told they would get an immediate call back, but wouldn't get a call back. Generally, there isn't a response from the emails posted on their website, either. It's incredibly frustrating to have incorrectly reported scores or schedules that are posted and have to track down a staff member to get the information. These is when you can actually get ahold of someone. You're lucky if you can actually get a direct answer from somebody. Or you'll have to go to Facebook and post on their page, because that or through text is the only way to get some sort of answer, and, usually it's answered the day of or the day before the game in question, with no update posted anywhere else. Don't count on any communications for cancelations regarding outdoor events, either. They'll often announce games are canceled after the games were supposed to take place, if at all. They recently had an 'announcement' (which was just a comment they posted under their cover photo of their Facebook page) that all volleyball games were cancelled at 6:30 p.m., but the games started at 6 p.m. I can't comment on other sports (kickball, football, etc.), but if you can help it, go with one of the similar companies for volleyball. read more

Place is cool and alot of fun.. I play Football and Softball and the guys are always helpful. Some of the field refs aren't very good but they are improving, I would recommend for a fun time of playing and after game libations. read more

Website is almost never up to date. Very slow response to any request. Last minute changes to schedules without any notice. Sometimes you won't know what time your game is at until the day of. Volleyball ref treated us very poorly because he thought we were "too good" for the league we were in. After losing in the championship game the ref then went to play with the team we just lost too. read more
