Clifton Thai is a small Thai food restaurant in Clifton, NJ. I visited here today and had great food as well as great service. It was me and my friend and we were served by the owner, who was very attentive and friendly. He made sure our food came out great and also came by to make sure. I had the Thai basil chicken with jasmine rice. They ask you what level spicy you want and I did 4 which was perfect for me. We tried their spices and oh lord! Are they hot lol. Yummy though, they're made in house. We also had the chicken dumplings to share and they were good too. The sauce that comes with the dumplings is pretty tasty. They have Thai juices however I stayed away due to sugar but the owner suggested I do unsweetened ice tea with half lemonade. It was perfect not sweet at all. First thing that put me off was they added a $7 tip to my pick up online order. Which is ridiculous especially if you don't catch it. Them I kept telling him about my cashew allergy and he was like did you put it in the online order and I said yes but can you make sure he kept saying if your wrote to it's fine the cooks will see. That's not reassuring. Now as for the food. The pumpkin curry was good and the curry puffs were good. The fried chicken dumplings were super flat with no filling. Complete waste of money. It was a special treat to see both owners and their daughter after 2 years. Greeted by Tony of the husband/wife duo team, who takes the time to get to know the regular customers, I was seated immediately by the window. With the brisk temperatures, I started out with the chicken dumpling soup consommé, which consisted of a Clear Broth Soup, Cellophane Noodles, Scallions, and Napa. My main meal was Pad See-Ew with Tofu from their lunch menu with a soda. During my meal, the other owner, Jib (pronounced: yeep), dropped by with their 10-month-old daughter to catch up. Beautiful restaurant, warm and cozy inside, very friendly and helpful staff. And the food is excellent! I love that their dishes are made to order. So if there's an ingredient I don't like, they will leave it out. Comes in very handy for making many of their staple dishes in a vegan version (they will omit the fish sauce or oyster sauce). The drunken noodles weren't it this time. I don't know if they overcooked the noodles, or if it wasn't fresh but the noodles were all broken down. The chicken was dry/rubbery and had a leftover taste to it. The pad Thai was pretty good though - perfect sour:salty:sweet ratio. I normally wouldn't order tofu as a protein but I'm glad I did because the tofu tasted fresh, and not boxed like the supermarket kind. Fried rice was kind of bland. A cozy, cute, place of Thai gem. Looking for Thai restaurant for Sunday lunch, we soon realized the one of our favorite Thai restaurants in River Vale would be too far away from where we moved in. Yelp search gave us two or three options nearby. Drove in within 15 mins. It has probably fewer than 20 seats, but a nice nana movable wall which can make the entire dining area a semi-outdoor. The owner seems very confident with the menu, and kindly asked us if we were a firs-time visitor. He also explained two other locations including the one in NYC which has been closed due to a fire. We ordered a Thai salad, Sauted ginger calamari, and of course shrimp Pad Thai with a coconut juice, and ended our meal with fried banana rolls. All meals we ordered surprised us and we left nothing but empty dishes! The Pad Thai was well prepared & seasoned and a right amount for two to share. We found all ingredients were fresh. The calamaris were a bit short in amount, but gingers, orions and scallions were more than enough in the salted wok. The fried banana were well paired with honey and cream. I got takeout from here and thought the food was not particularly good. I ordered a Thai breaded shrimp appetizer, drunken noodles, pad see ew, Panang curry, and basil eggplant. The best item was the breaded shrimp. The rest was subpar. The two noodle dishes were bland and lacked any sort of spice and flavor. The curry was watery and very much overwhelmed by the coconut milk where I could barely taste the curry. The basil eggplant was ok, but forgettable. The staff here is so friendly and efficient. The place is quaint and cute. We ordered a variety of food and everything was great. I especially enjoyed the Thai salad as it was so fresh and crisp. My husband ordered the drunken noodle. It should have been saucier but it was still tasty. The sauce on the wings was too sweet. I was expecting Thai Chili instead, but they weren't horrible. Honestly- average food. I'm wondering if it would be better in person. However when you order online, they ask you what spicy level you want your item. I got the drunken noodles at a level 9 because I can handle spice well. When it was received, it was as if they completely replaced the taste of kee mao/drunken noodles with sambal instead of adding more chilies or jalapeños to the sauce. Because of this, the flavor was completely lacking. I also want to point out that even if this was the case, the sambal definitely wasn't spicy enough to make the noodles categorized as spice level 9. The Tom Yum Goon was average at best. Not much spice, overly sweet and shrimp were pretty dried out (again probably because of delivery). Lastly, green curry- taste was totally there, but chicken was dry and I feel like they gave you tiny chunks and maximized on the bell peppers. Just some personal feedback. The food here was great! I came for lunch and they had some lunch specials. I got the chicken pad thai. It was cooked well with a good ratio of chicken. I hate it when it's too fishy and thankfully this dish was not. I got it at a medium spice level but it was not spicy at all. I'll have to keep that in mind next time I order. I also got the parang curry with chicken. It also was great but could have used more spice. I did take out and it's a small restaurant. The price is very reasonable. I ordered online because of the 4 stars ratings on Yelp and it's quick delivery to my home versus other Thai restaurants and I'm sitting here on the floor full of regrets. One redeeming factor is the Thai iced tea. Their green curry is watery and comes with the coconut milk and liquid already separating in the container. It's also .. sweet? Chicken is dry. Their drunken noodle is vile. I've never seen a drunken noodle so lacking in color aka sauce. It just looked pale red from the spice. The flat noodles were also broken up, undercooked and all stuck together. This was honestly so so so disgusting and I will not wish Clifton's drunken noodle on any Thai food loving person. So far, I've ordered from here twice. -First time was the Fresh Ginger w/Chicken ($12.00) which was excellent. In addition, I ordered the pumpkin custard ($6.00) for dessert. My first time here. It's a cute spot with about 12 tables. There is street parking only. I ordered the chicken pad thai, panang curry w/shrimp, and the pineapple fried rice/shrimp. The pad thai tasted like typical pad thai, nothing amazing. I will add, they did not provide lime. The panamg curry was deliciously spicy (spice level 4) & there were plenty of shrimp. The pineapple rice was disappointing because they used canned pineapple . I don't know about you but, if I pay $15 for a rice dish, I want real damn pineapple! First off, I apologize for no food pics, because the plating was actually nice, but I went through my food like a hot knife through butter. We went for a birthday dinner. Service was really friendly, and pretty attentive with having a party of 19, and another 3 tables in that tiny place. The mustard colored walls go well with the autumn decorations, and the place was pretty clean. Pay attention to your "spicy level." I suggest choosing a number a point under where you think you are. I had the stir fry with fresh ginger, onion, scallions.. sooo good I need to learn how to make their sauce, it's so light and tasty. The fresh ginger taste is strong which I love but if you don't like ginger get something else. The chicken drunken noodles were delicious as usual and again with a light sauce that was perfect. Just bummed because my husband picked up a take-out order for lunch and when I took the chicken satay out the packaging was torn through the bottom causing all of the skewers to fall out! Fairly easy to get reservations on a weekday. Started with Thai iced tea and chive dumplings. Dumplings were delicious, and are fairly large! Our regular go to Thai place was unexpectedly closed for a few days so we thought this would be a good opportunity to try out a new place. This place is about 20 mins away from our home but when Uber Eats delivered it was still warm and arrived 15 mins before the estimated time Here is everything we ordered: Veggie Pad Thai: 3/10 spice- was very okay, lacked any real flavor and had very large pieces of scrambled eggs Veggie Drunken Noodles: 6/10 spice- there was zero sauce in this so it tasted like plain noodles, chili and oil with vegetables Papaya Salad: 5/10- good salad, this was spicier than the drunken noodles though Spring Rolls: They we're good but definitely tasted frozen/store bought Mango Sticky Rice: good, there was still good fresh mango available. When the restaurant allowed seating before covid, the service was always fast & friendly. During covid the restaurant has been kind enough to bring the food outside to your car. The last time I went to pick food from this restaurant I had my pup with me in the passenger seat. The lady who works at the restaurant was kind enough to volunteer to open the back door and place all the food in the back seat. In addition, she spent some extra time to set up the food and drinks in such a way that I could drive it safely without worrying about spillage. So sweet!! - customer service is always above & beyond!!!!!!!!!!! This specific occasion we ordered food for Mother's Day. Each dish was absolutely fantastic. We got the fried red snapper with a sweet peanut sauce. My family is from an Island, as a result my dad loves seafood. He absolutely devoured the fish and said the complimentary sauce to pour on top of the fish was divine. My mom is not a huge sea- food eater and she absolutely loved it. I am not crazy about peanuts but since my parents complimented the dish so much I tried the peanut sauce and loved it! The other dishes were the red curry with chicken, Thai basil tofu, drunken noodles with chicken and spring rolls. Just writing this review is making my mouth water as to how delicious they all were!!! The coconut base for the red curry was sweet and just perfectly made! The tofu basil had so much flavor and the perfect bite. The drunken noodles hit the noodle craving! The Thai tea with tapioca and the Thai coconut ice cream was such a nice treat to finish of the dish. When picking the spice level between 1-10, just be careful cause I think we picked 8 for 1 dish and boy did it have a kick. 7 was a good number for our family. Just choose your numbers per how you handle the spiciness. This is a family owned restaurant so it's like such a cute mom & pap store. I remember in July after my engagement we made a trip to this restaurant with both my now husbands family & mine. I ended up getting food here for work for a lunch meeting and I have never had food from this place. So this concerns delivery :) I ended up ordering the eggplant basil on their vegetarian section and what can I say, very well done. Lots of striking flavors came through from the basil, the spice, the sweet and the savory and salty. I love how you can customize the spice, I wonder how they judge that so I went with 6 and it packed a nice punch. Came with some rice. The meal is definitely enough for two portions so I saved some for lunch and the next day's dinner. Will be looking to try more food from here. The amount of food was plentiful, so much that we both could have shared just one of the meals. We ordered a level 2 spice for the curry and it was on the sweeter side (how we preferred it).
