Brought our 10 year old toy poodle for iral prophylaxis after some gingivitis diagnosis from a locla vet here in CV. Left home at 8:30 and Crossed the border from Otay Ranch and arrived at the clinic around 9:10am. We were #15 already in the line. Clinic is pretty busy, so please be prepared and be patient. Pet was seen arpund 10am and was given instructions to come back at 4:30pm. Heading back to CV at 10:30 am was a breezy 45 minutes drive. Went back at 3:30 pm, arrived around 5:15 due to traffic at the border and in downtown TJ. They did amazing with the oral prophylaxis and our pet ended having 6 teeth pulled. Left the clinic around 5:15 pm and areived at Otay Ranch via 125 around 7:15pm. Young vet spoke great English and exlained everything thoroughly. Paid $200 deposit and remaining $ paid at pick-up. They also groomed my pet with little boss, free of charge. They said they donit as part of their service since some dogs get blood on their faces so they want them clean when picking up. Highly recommend Dr. Alexander- We've been on multiple occasions for several of our family's pets & every time we had our issues addressed and handled in a timely and cost effective way. Very knowledgeable vet & the receptionist is always helpful and kind. There's some free roaming cats & birds when you arrive to the location, which is a plus in my eyes at least. There's a cute little bench and waiting area outdoors along with an indoor waiting area. I'm happy with the services we've received here and will be going back as it's super convenient and a lot more cost effective than San Diego vets in general; and even better they will take you same day: first come first served which is great in my opinion. A lot of places in SD you need appointments or a trip to the ER for immediate service. Overall would definitely recommend. Must say, we have only ever been seen by Dr. Alexander the son not the dad (which is the older gentleman), so can't speak on our experience there but the son is awesome and very helpful. read more

However, they sent me here due to more flexible hours that day. Doc Alexander was quick, to the point, very knowledgeable about animal care, and spoke to you about the best options for your pet. I not only go to México for the cheaper price the dollar value brings, but the quality of care and genuineness from the Mexican vets is simply better than the monopoly that is run by the American vets. My dog, Zeus, got seen pretty fast! On two separate trips here, here got his blood drawn, 2 separate x-rays, nails cut, full dental examination and cleaning, and a few small masses removed. I can't believe I'm writing this review as I have been taking my dogs to dr Alexander for over 15 years. It was great until dr Alexander's son Christian took over that this place has just been a money factory instead of caring for our beloved pets. My 15 year old dog had a toe nail that had grown abnormally large and we routinely had come in to have it checked out. We were told many times that it was a fungus and that he can live with it. Well the last time we came in Christian had cut it off so low that it got infected then needed amputation. A "don't worry it's cheap" amputation where we had asked for a blood test to make sure he was ok for surgery because of his age. we had to come in the day before to get the test which he said his kidney function is fine and that my dog was clear for surgery. We came in a couple days later and my baby was one toe less. We were given an antibiotic and sent home and was told to come back in two weeks to take out the stitches. So basically to make a long story short, Christian cleared my dog for surgery but a month later (during this time my dogs toe was infected and needed medication and a cone which wasn't given to us) after all that he went through all of a sudden now he's not eating so we went to a different vet to get full bloodwork and not only is his kidney failing. He also has liver issues. I'm not a vet so it's not like I can read what blood tests look like especially if they're in Spanish since that is not my native language besides that prepare yourself to take notes as if your the doctor on everything that you talked about when you come in because they don't keep any files or information on your pets. Every time I went in it was a different issue that I needed to keep up with. my dog had at one point had a "heart problem" and I had to put him on medicine which I eventually weaned him off and he got better than he was before. I'm exhausted even writing all of this because I realized so much had went on, and we just didn't realize because we trusted them so much. He was so proud to say how cheap the surgery was when we've been going there since my dog was two months old enough times for it to be prevented. Not just that I have notes coming in specifically about the toe. I think he has had the kidney issues and he just wanted you to do the surgery for the money knowing his life is short (as we were worried about). He even said to me that he would have done the surgery with out the test but I insisted on it. We we're very apprehensive and even doing the surgery but like I said did because we had trusted him. You could message me privately if you want more information but I used to send so many people here and was proud to call them my vet, and now I don't even want to drive past this place. It's too bad it had to end this way, and I feel sorry for my dog who had to endure more than he should have. I don't think anybody should support this place even the grooming salon cuts their skin, and the haircuts are always uneven My dogs have been traumatized by the groomers to the point where they tremble on the way in which was the last time we took him there as well But I guess you pay the price in the end for something that is "cheap" read more

Dr. Alexander Senior retired and left his son behind. It is not the same knowledge and quality as Alexander Senior. I assumed the son absorbed everything from the Dad, but I was wrong. This newer generation Vet prescribed unneeded medication to my small female dog, and she developed a heart murmur; she went from healthy and playful to just lying around all day and lifeless. When I took her back for a check-up, he found a bad murmur that he said was due to age, and he wanted to put her on meds that made my last pet's passing torturous. With that in mind, I refused! I bought insurance and took her to a specialist in San Diego who had seen her a few months before, but I hadn't returned due to the expensive nature of his fees. So, this vet in San Diego has proof that her heart was healthy before I took her to TJ! He suspended the unneeded (thyroid med) immediately, and we changed to a more nutritious diet and added a homeopathic heart supplement while we wait for a cardiologist appointment. With the changes the doctor in San Diego made, she came back to life!!! From tired, depressed, and listless to her old, playful, and happy self! What a HUGE disappointment with Dr. Alexander's clinic! Now that Doctor Alfonso is retired, this clinic is the new McDonald's of veterinary clinics. In the morning, they have 10-15 dogs from Mexivet and other people. The quantity has replaced the quality. I'll be getting insurance for both of my dogs to avoid taking them to this place. Sadly, Dr. Alfonso's quality is no longer there, nor is it being followed by the newer generations relaying and monetizing the fame of that great doctor. read more

The best vet in Tijuana. Took my poodle because she was having seizures. Turns out it was the dog food I was giving her. The vet put her on medication along with a special diet of boiled chicken. The office is on one of Tijuanas main streets so access is easy from the states. The doctor speaks and understands English clearly. I would recommend using a translation app for the office staff. Our Yorkies got 20 teeth pulled between the two and are recovering well. They got 5 days worth of antibiotics. We would suggest that the antibiotics be liquid for ease of dosing. We would highly recommend Clinique Dr. Alexander. The cost was literally 1/4 the cost of what our Vet quoted. Honestly! I wouldn't think twice about going again or referring. read more

This place helped me and my dog and I'm so grateful!!! I brought my 9 year old chihuahua here for dental work after getting an estimate from my vet in San Diego for $1,400. With rising costs in California I can not afford much, especially vet. Walking in this place, It's not the cleanest, I was a little worried but I went through with it, desperate to help my baby get out of pain. I dropped her off at 10:30 am, they did a quick exam, with me in the room then quickly explained everything and told me to come back at 3:30. I came back a little early and the doctor prescribed her some stuff for her skin, she's been battling this strange skin infection for years and the vets in San Diego always run tests and prescribe her the wrong things and it's never been properly taken care of. But somehow he knew exactly what it was and exactly what she needed!!! After everything, she got 4 teeth extracted, the dental cleaning, the skin medications and antibiotics for $225!!!! My pup, Redd, is an 11 month old Golden Retriever. I've been wanting to get him into the vet just for a check up, but refuse to go to San Diego vets. The greed in unreal in the states. They will find ways to charge for any and everything, including stuff you don't need. I did not experience any of that at Dr. Alexander's. Very honest business! So, my neighbor -- we mated our dogs -- told me about her vet in TJ and invited me to come with her. I've been all over the world, but surprisingly, never to Mexico and I could probably walk to the border...that's how close I am. We get in the car and enter through the Otay crossing because it's much faster. We arrive quickly (maybe 20 minutes from our house to the clinic) and there's a line, but it moved so quickly. It's walk-in only I believe. My Spanish is awful, but I understand the basics...the receptionist was able to check me in no problem. The Doc does speak English though, so don't hesitate to check this place out if you're worried about a language barrier. We get into the back office and I was told that my pup is good to go until September, but will need de-worming. If I would have left it at that, it would have been an $11 dollar visit, but I know flea and tick season is here and inquired about medicine. He gave me a one time oral medicine that is good for three months and only cost $30 something dollars. My advantix cost like $60 and it's one month worth of medicine that I have to apply weekly to his back. I couldn't believe it! Pros: Bilingual Prices Quick Used my debit no problem Cons: Parking - it's not a deal breaker, but it's a small rocky lot right off of a busy road. Back in if you can! This was such a quick, no bullshit, type of visit and I'll definitely continue to bring my dog here. read more

My dog in renal failure, mind you she was severely abused, was picked up by her four legs, laid upside down, put in a choke hold and muzzled for her examination. She was kept in a choke hold even after muzzled. This was the position she was examined in. I was in Shock and feel terrible until this moment that I didn't advocate more. Once decided she needed to stay overnight for emergency IV fluids etc, the assistant carried her away without giving me the opportunity to say goodbye. I called over 20x with no answer. No update until 24 hours later. I was dyinggg. MexiVet Express supports this facility. I needed to get them involved for a response from the doctor. I will no longer be using either service. I recommend being present during your pets services if using this vet office or MexiVet express. They do not have their customer service/bedside manner skills set. read more

I brought my 11 year old Chihuahua in because the garage door fell on him and he looked to have his back legs broken. Luckily he did not. Dr.Alexander and his staff are very professional he X-rayed my dog and determined he had a fracture on his spine. He gave him 4 shots to reduce the swelling and recommended we try this for 3-4 days and see if he improves if not he'd need surgery. Total I paid about $60.00 dollars. Finding this place is easy it's in the Xolos parking lot. They have a small parking lot so it was convenient. I came in today because my cat looked like she had ringworm on her ear. Wrong, it is eczema. Dr. Alexander treated her right away and gave her 2 shots. He also gave us a eczema cream for cats.
