In my two combined visits here, they have probably saved me over a $1,000. The only downside to this place is that the parking situation is kind of stressful. There isn't an easy place to pull in, so you have to rough it with street parking. But that's a small price to pay for this kind of service. read more

CLM received all my business for auto related needs. I drive a 2004 Volkswagen Golf. Bobby and Mario were extremely friendly (and funny) and straightforward with their auto advice. They seemed to constantly look for the most affordable options for me and even voluntarily offered to drive me to work nearby. The highest compliment I can give is the fact that I am writing this review from Midland, TX right after receiving maintenance and repair by them. The longest stretch of driving was 22 hours straight from Virginia to Dallas, TX. Before I discovered CLM I had a suggested lists of repairs from an expensive diagnostic test performed by a Volkswagen dealership. They cut through the BS and focused only on necessary items while also reducing costs by more than half. I highly recommend them! read more

Lifesavers. I came to CLM very upset because I had scratched my girlfriend's car. Robert and Mario both helped talk me down from a ledge. They gave me free some relationship advice about trust and honesty, and then painted over the scratches for free! I pulled my car up and of course it lost power right in the middle of the street in front of CLM. They ran out, jumped it, pulled it into the garage and they gave it a quick look before telling me I needed a new battery. No run around or gimmick. They had me go sit down and wait while they changed it - that simple! I realize that a new battery is a quick fix. But the guys at CLM were professional, they obviously knew what they were doing and they made me feel 100% better about having a dead car in the middle of the street, blocking the entire flow of traffic. I'll say, the treatment I've gotten from other shops around this area was deplorable compared to CLM. The next time I need a car repair I won't waste my time calling around. Originally when I pulled up I was afraid the place was kind of ghetto, but they have a pretty large set-up inside for the cars. I'd rather have a ghetto place with great service that a fancy place with terrible one so I was very happy. I went in (on a Saturday because I work pretty late on the weekdays) to have my car's undercarriage looked at. With all the snow we've had I messed something up, and I knew that something was loose and kicking around down there. The guys were really nice and didn't try to push any extra service on me or anything. They explained that while the cover was a little loose, there was no real damage, they adjusted and re-fit the undercarriage cover and (upon request) checked my tire pressure for $35. I was in and out in about 30 mins. read more

I chose CLM because they were fantastic when my husband took his car in after getting rear ended. (Sort of - my husband took my car in for me before he brought his to CLM, but this is *my* first experience.) I was really pleased with my visit today, which I booked when my Check Engine light (ugh) came on. I had to run to work right after I dropped off my car, but they asked me to stay a couple seconds so they could quickly check the warning light code and diagnose the issue. Less than a minute later, they had it, and quoted me a (fair) price. They were also honest, letting me know that the work didn't have to be done immediately, but let's be fair - I'm the type to turn up the radio when I hear a weird noise (tada! Fixed!), so if I didn't have the work done today, I'd likely have to get it done when the car stalled some place inconvenient. I gave them the go ahead. When I picked my car up there were no surprises - no "recommended" repairs that the tech serendipitously "noticed," and the cost was exactly as quoted. They even knew who I was before I identified myself. And hey, that pesky engine light is off! I didn't even need to put black tape over it! Thanks, CLM. CLM auto in Cambridge is AMAZING. I've been taking my car here for years and have always had top notch service from them at rock bottom prices. I just got off the phone with them and it's entirely possible that they are the only honest mechanics in the world. They explained what was wrong with my car based on the dx the douchey mechanics in NYC gave me, and told me they'd charge $65 to fix it. The asshats I saw today in Brooklyn wanted $546 altogether. While in Boston, I had a slew of other shady mechanics before finally being referred by a friend to CLM, and if I hadn't recently moved out of state, I'd never have taken my car anyplace else. Also, they are usually singing Lady Gaga or Adele songs when I drop my car off for service. That ups them from awesome to awesome squared!! read more

Someone hit our new Honda Fit's bumper and it was badly crumpled. CLM took a look, gave a quote, and told us to drop the car off for the weekend. The repair was unbelievably fast, and on Monday, I picked the car up and it was as good as new! They carefully explained exactly what was broken on the bumper and even gave me the old part. These guys are crooks. Got into minor accident with ZipCar, and these guys ran up the fees for labor and replaced things I'm fairly certain most honest garage's wouldn't. Fairly certain these guys were running up the bill because they didn't have to answer to the particular person footing the bill... My recommendation, if you're foolish enough to service your car with these jokers, is to go line-by-line and ask them why they did what they did and why it took them so long. read more

The folks at CLM Auto Repair are awesome, quick, affordable and walked me through the process, so I'd have some ownership (and relay the work to others). There was a recent post about having a reservation, which freaked me out a little. However, when I called them in the AM, they said to come on down. It took 45 minutes for them to get my heater back up (which is SO needed). Rob and Mario were friendly, thoughtful and the final bill was LOWER than their quote. How awesome is that? I bought a used Subaru through a private party sale. It ended up being a lemon - engine trouble. I brought the car to a Subaru dealer first - they quoted me thousands. Then I brought the car to CLM for a second opinion, without telling them the quote or diagnosis from the Subaru dealer. CLM diagnosed everything the same, and quoted me 1/2 the price of the dealership quote! This made my decision easy. These guys were honest - a little gruff - but real honest - and they didn't promise me more than they knew they could do. CLM did the repairs, and the car has been running beautifully since. I went from having a lemon to a beautifully running car. I can't thank the guys at CLM enough. Not only did they save me thousands, but they made me feel confident in their work without ripping me off. I see why Zipcar trusts these guys to do their repairs - they run a good honest business. If you want someone who is going to hold your hand while you pine about your car issues - CLM is not the place. But if you want a good bunch of mechanics with a honest run family business, CLM is the way to go. They will definitely be getting my business from now on. read more

These guys are FANTASTIC! ANYONE in Boston who needs any work done on their car needs to come here. Ask for Mario. I came here last year to have my brakes re-done - I had been quoted $900 by another mechanic - I took my car here and they explained that I didn't need all that work, then explained what I really needed to have done - at a fraction of the cost. Today I took my car in since the battery had died 3 times this week (from the bad Winter, arg) and after I called AAA to get a jump start before work I didn't even call CLM, just drove straight there to see if i could drop my car off when they opened. They took my car in right away since they knew I was running late for work, fixed everything I needed and it was a lot less expensive than I was expecting. They have so many loyal customers that they don't overcharge people, they simply do great work at a great price. I have a '05 Tahoe and needed rear pads and rotors. Sullivan tire quoted me $550 or higher after I gave them all my info. I called CLM and they said $300, I had my truck towed over from my work @ 9:00AM and they had it done by 4:00PM and I didn't even have an appt. I know what parts would've cost me to do it on my own ($200) and they only charged me the original quote. Best mechanic I've ever had. When I had a crap-box of a car they kept it on the road and never beat me up on the price tag. Always reliable and great work for reasonable rates. My wife has a new car now and same deal... The fix it up right! They're straight shooters as well. If they can keep it on the cheap, they will. We were told by our local dealership that our car needed new brake pads and rotors, and they quoted us $950. We called CLM, and they quoted us $600 for the same repair, with Hyundai parts. When my husband actually dropped off the car, they looked, told him that the car didn't even need new rotors, and we ended up paying $250 as opposed to the $950 that the dealership wanted us to pay them. They could very easily have let us pay for a service we didn't need, but for their honesty and the fact that the work was done quickly and well, this place has earned our business permanently. Let's start with I generally despise auto repair shops. Maybe its because I have absolutely no understanding of how my car works and feel helpless dealing with those who fix them or because I had a bad experience while I when I was just out of college. When my car broke down right after New Years I had to find a place to get it fixed. A friend suggested CLM and even offered to go with me. I took him up on the offer and we went over to CLM on a Thursday morning. I was initially scared as it looks like an auto repair shop which causes me to break out in sweat. But I was introduced to one of the owners who asked what was wrong and after I explained it he said he would take a look and take care of it. All he asked for was a phone number (I guess he had my car so not bad for collateral) and said he would call me if he ran into anything big. I was called later that day and was told that the car was ready and come and get it. When I showed up they explained what they did and a couple of other areas where I need to be mindful as the car is getting older. My car has been going great for three weeks and the amount they charged was more than reasonable. These are good people and they do good work at a very fair price. read more

Called ahead made an appointment a week early. Completely explained the slipping in my transmission and the guy was adamant about having the car there promptly at 8am and that they would check everything out free of charge and it would take a decent amount of work to find the problem but they were more than happy to do the work. Well got there at 7:50 struggled to find parking, went in and explained the situation. He said without looking at the vehicle that I need a new transmission. He said I must have explained the issue wring over the phone and that it was my fault. What horrible customer service and what a shady tactic just to get business in. I cannot begin to tell you how great and FAIR they are. Their work is superior + and they bring a new meaning to "fair and honest" in the auto repair business. I have to agree with other reviewers on here - whose reviews helped me choose CLM to have a couple repairs done. Dropped my car off in the AM and picked it up after work with the first job done (window motor replacement, driver's side). A cable for the second job had to be ordered, but again when I brought that car in for the repair it was in and out same day. Stuck to their initial quote - both times the manager said the job was "a pain" but he may have just saying that for effect. Regardless, I REALLY appreciated that they were quick and stuck to the original quote (which seemed fair)! I'll definitely continue going there for any future repairs. One other thing, I accidentally left my gps in the car (meant to take it out just for preventative reasons) but it was still there when I got back - huge relief. Thanks CLM! read more

I could not be more pleased with the service I received today from CLM auto. I came in and asked them to look at my vehicle as it was making a funny noise, and they were able to repair it in the same day. Everyone was very friendly and kept me up to date about what was going on with my car. They did their very best to explain the issues to me (I don't understand anything car related). They were honest and upfront about pricing and pointed out other issues i will need repaired in the future. My interactions with all of the employees I spoke with were positive. Best, fastest, least expensive, most reliable mechanics I've ever found in the whole country, hands down. We are going on three years of service and I'm damn near excited when I hear what they're going to charge me. They squeeze me in and I could get charged 368 down the street in the very next day I got charged 250 for the exactly the same job here at CLM. ( left and right wheel bearings) I cannot recommend them more. No bullshitters,. Once I brought them my bosses car and said charge him whatever you want! You are so nice to the community, you should probably get some money off this rich guy who won't care at all, and they refused to charge anymore than they would've normally charge. I'll say this borderlines on the criminal. From the rude attitude, to the repairs being inefficient, to not caring about the car at all. I was told my car was all set, only to have an issue in less than 12 hrs. having a car stall out in the middle of the highway is one of the scariest things I've ever experienced. I could have been hit, or worse. When I brought it to another mechanic I was told that a piece in my car was painted to make it look new, but the piece was actually old. I don't think ever had such a smooth, pain free experience at the repair shop like i did yesterday at CLM Auto Repair! While not the norm in terms of speed probably, i brought my car in morning for unknown issues, they diagnosed, repairs were completed and was ready for me to pick up by 6:00 PM! The cost for two major repairs, one being the wheel bearings( whatever that is ha-ha) was under $500 for everything including labor. So, I moved to the area over a year ago, and have been apprehensive to take my car to any auto repair shop in the area- a) because I know absolutely nothing about cars, and b) i'm have been ripped off in the past due to my lack of car knowledge. I started using the shop my father uses, which was great, but now I live about an hour away, so it's totally inconvenient. ANYWAY- my car died in front of an auto repair shop in Newton last week. Not only did the guy working there tell me he had no time in the near future to fix it, but that I had to get my car towed out of there lot ASAP and that it was going to cost me about $800+ anywhere I took it because I apparently needed a "specialty" alternator, which he let me know was a huge pain to change, AND a new battery. Thankfully, he gave my battery a charge so I was able to drive home. I switched out my battery and hoped for the best. Then my car basically exploded, ha. I looked here, on yelp, for a close by shop with good reviews, and found CLM. Every single good review on here is absolutely TRUE. I mostly dealt with Mario. I called from home, he told me it would be $350 for a new alternator for my particular car, because it was a difficult one to switch out. I was thrilled to hear a quote that was largely less expensive than what that other guy told me... so I had it towed in to CLM. Mario came right out to me as I pulled up to the garage and was super friendly, looked at my car and told me $350 again. He even offered me a ride to the Lechmere train since he knew I was on my way to work, and out of a car. When I went back to pick up my car, he asked me what he quoted me, I told him, and he asked me how $300 sounded instead. How nice and unusual to hear a lower price than what I was quoted! Needless to say, I highly recommend CLM Auto Repair, and I will ABSOLUTELY bring my car back there anytime I need service! read more

These guys are awesome to work with, especially Mario. I've been twice in the past year. It's an informal experience--don't expect free capuccinos in the waiting area--but they're honest, quick and informative. What else do you want from an auto repair shop? Prices are on par with most of eastern MA and Mario always gave me different options if possible. Note: As of this review, there's no formal parking area. CLM fixed my BMW GT that had been hit on the side. I've had the car for a year, so it feels new to me and I was very upset about the damange. The damage included two doors + part of the back panel so there was a lot to fix even though the dents were not huge. They had it fixed, painted and back to me very quickly. They told me it would be a big job - up to 3 weeks and they were done in less than two weeks. They helped arrange for my rental to make it most convenient for me. I have been a customer of CLM for now probably 5 years. I have been with them through my 3 different cars and despite me moving into different towns around Boston I keep coming back to them. Why? Because they are tottaly worth it. They are the best and I am not exaggerating. Mario, the mechanic always tells me the truth about my car and if there is something that still can live without the repair he will tell me that and will tell me a probable outcome. He is like a doctor for the cars, very good at diagnosing (and fixing) it. Every time I go there, especially in the past, I was afraid he won't remember me, but they don't fail to impress me every time. He remembers almost every detail about my car. Rob, his brother is a wonderful auto body specialist. And recently had my bumper touched up within 20 min at my convenience. I also had my car left there for the auto body work for a few days and was very happy with the result.
