Tldr - terrible customer service, and my car died 3 hours after they "fixed" it. After experiencing some shuddering/near-stalling on local roads. I stupidly kept driving for a day until my car finally broke down. I had it looked-at here, largely based on decent yelp reviews. I arrived on Tuesday morning; the guy said he'd get back to me in a few hours. I called back as they were getting ready to close; he said it hadn't been looked-at yet, that they'd get to it tomorrow (Wednesday.) Wednesday I call in the early morning, and the guy who takes the call tells me he'll take a look and get back to me. Roughly 4 hours later, I call back, and I'm told a $165-fix to the radiator is all that's necessary, and that it'll be done today, and he'll call me when they're done. I called back just before they were closing, and he says it's done and I should come by and pick it up. I do that. I ask whether the radiator problem explained shuddering/lurching, and the guy said 'yes.' As I'm driving off the lot, I'm still experiencing shuddering/lurching, but I figure it'll resolve itself. It does, by breaking down again (literally) 3 hours later. I tried to call the place, but they were apparently closed for the next 3 days for a holiday (without mentioning schedule on their phone tree or web site.) So I had it towed to a different shop, which provided a very different diagnosis (total engine failure.) read more

I had a leaking radiator and took my car in to a garage in Cambridge only because it was a Saturday and no other place was open. The mechanic looked at it told me needed to be replaced and told me the job would cost $425. Not knowing anything about cars and not being able to pay for it to get fixed, I waited until Monday and brought my car over to CLM. Without telling Mario I had already taken my car to another garage, I showed him the radiator and he looked at and and said, "You have to replace the radiator. It's going to be expensive." When I asked how expensive he said $250!!!! I'm might not be a math genius, but I think $250 is almost $175 cheaper than $425. The point is, Mario could over charge for repairs to rubes like myself who have no idea what things costs but he doesn't. I got my car a few hours later and everything and my car is running like a top. CLM is not only great a fixing cars and doing it fast, , but they are the most honest and affordable shop in the area. read more

We brought our car in a couple months ago to get an oil change and some fixes, they did a fine job, I guess. But now our check engine light comes on intermittently. At the time we had it in we were told that they could replace the casing or housing for a side mirror for about $100.00 I just got off the phone with someone there who was incredibly rude. He said there is not such thing as a mirror housing and that you have to replace the whole mirror. When I asked him his name he said goodbye and apparently hung up. This place is awful. The prices are low, but you get what you pay for. We had a tuneup and brake work done, and both were done haphazardly and needed to be fixed by another mechanic. Mario is a smoooooth talker. He easily instills confidence about his and his employees' capabilities and knowledge. This backfired however, when he was diagnosing a squeaky noise from my engine. He was sure it was the alternator. There was no doubt. He'd seen it many times before: Subarus have no guard to protect the alternators from the road dirt and salt, and they go pretty quickly, right around the time my car started making noises. No problem, he said. Quick easy repair job. He'd have the new one installed in less than an hour. I was so relieved, I thought I'd found my mechanical guru. Well, he comes back in 15 minutes and tells me it wasn't the alternator, that he put the new one in and the engine was still making that squeaky noise. So he took the new one out and put the old one back in (which is still working fine, by the way, over a year and a half later.) I was shocked, because I had totally believed him. I knew there wasn't any doubt either. But when said he was wrong, I started to wonder what else he had convinced me of that might not be true after all. Funny thing is, the engine started squeaking after his guys had replaced, then tightened some of the belts during the tuneup. Interesting coincidence, though they SWORE up and down it couldn't be THEIR work. Fast forward to now, when another mechanic - a known and trusted one - does our tune up and brakes. He couldn't believe how poorly the brakes were done last, and told us that it almost certainly shortened their lifespan by over 50%. We had grinding and improper installation on both front brakes. I really wanted to like CLM after all the great reviews they got, but I have to say - they're no good. They're quick, cheap, but chock full of bullshit. They talk better than they fix cars. After previously loving this location, I had two horrible experiences and will not go back. Suffice it to say, the "repair" damaged my car (finally confirmed by another mechanic, when i did not even bring it up!), when brought it in later to have them look at it, they literally called me "crazy" and then damaged the interior of my car with black grease. To top it off, when i questioned how they ruined the interior of my car, they claimed that *I* must have gotten grease on it and acted even more rude. Said the mechanic with black hands and greasy fingernails. Give me a break. Do not go here! read more

Ok, I admit it, I don't know much about cars... But I know when I'm having any problems with my Saab, CLM is where to go. This is a family run business that puts the customer first. They are honest and trustworthy. I've been working with them for about a year and a half and cannot say enough good things about them. This is my first Yelp review, and for good reason. My girlfriend's car had trouble starting so we took it to CLM based on its glowing Yelp status. After describing the problem, the guy at the front desk, Mario, confidently declared we had a bad starter and he would replace it for $250 (a pretty good price). We agreed and picked up the car later that afternoon and everything seemed fine. He told us we needed a new battery, which I said I could put in myself. So end of story, everything good... Until, the next morning when the car has trouble starting again. I looked up that he probably should have replaced the battery first and see if that fixed the problem, then do the starter. We took the car back and Mario said he would replace the battery and put the old starter back in and refund all of the money for the first job. The new battery fixed the problem and then when he couldn't find the old starter, he simply refunded the money for the starter, leaving in the new one. In my experience I have never been to a mechanic that will admit mistakes, let alone refund any money and Mario did both. I am shocked at how decent and honest this place is, seriously, I still can't believe it. If you want to go to an honest mechanic with good prices, go to CLM. read more

I signed up for Yelp to review these guys. After getting a quote for $1,500 from a nearby garage to replace my radiator (and one or two other things I didn't ask for), I called these guys up late on a Wednesday afternoon. Without hesitation, the guy on the phone said $300-$350 and booked me an appointment for first thing Friday morning. Super friendly, off the phone in less than a minute. Friday morning I dropped off my car. The guys were super friendly in person, laughing about the ridiculous quote I had gotten. They didn't have my appointment written down, but took it on my word that I had made one and took my car. They asked me to explain why I wanted to replace my radiator, had me fill out a very brief form, and I was out the door (the "other" shop charged $45 to even LOOK at the car). I came in on Saturday morning after they called me saying the work was done. They recognized me and began to ring me up immediately. The price? $300. No scummy upsell, no hassle, and they did exactly what I needed (and I get a one-year warranty on the work). I can't say I love having work done on my car, but I will definitely go to CLM next time I need it. This is the first time I've ever walked out of an auto repair shop feeling good! read more

CLM is the only shop I take my car to (and believe me, I've had plenty of needs with my car: alternator went out, had to replace all my brake pads, replace struts, had a dent in my fender, numerous banged up rims and busted low profile tires...). One of my best friends recommended them years ago and I've been sending friends there ever since. They're no nonsense and don't overcharge you or recommend unneeded repairs like your typical stealership. To that end they've definitely saved me a ton of money. Mario and crew do solid work there and they've certainly earned my trust. Plus, they do all the zipcar work in the area and you know how much abuse those get. Let me be clear when I say if there was something beyond five stars these people would earn that. My car was broken down I was stranded with my four-year-old daughter when I called they said they weren't sure if they could look at it until the next day but they gave me contact information for tow truck-he was lovely-got me there safely and in record time-when I arrived they told me where my daughter and I could go and get a lovely lunch and were able to get me back on the road within 90 minutes even throwing in an extra part and I was able to pick up my nine-year-old daughter from school on time. I looked for the best rated body shop in my neighborhood and CLM came up. I couldn't be happier they did. I had some dents and damage from getting backed into - minor stuff, but required replacing an entire quarter piece of the car. I had an insurance settlement and CLM took care of it for what I had. I have a tough color (silly blue green prius color) too, and they matched it. All in all they did exactly what you want from an auto body shop. BUT what really has them taking the cake, is that I had a bumper scrape courtesy of street parking no where near the fix they were doing. The scrape had been the bane of my existence since I knew I'd have to pay out of pocket to ever get it fixed and it just nagged me every time I walked up to the car. I didn't even notice it had magically disappeared until my boyfriend pointed it out. I literally jumped up and down in the street. They hadn't done anything too dramatic, just buffed it and covered it up with the paint they had left over, but it makes all the difference to me. I wish I had seen it when I picked the car up because I would have thanked them profusely, so I hope they see this review. Thank you guys! read more

These guys just can't be beat. You'll be part of their family before you know it. I've used them ever since I moved to Boston 10 years ago. One time I picked up the car late one night after some of the guys had just got back from fishing and they gave me a big bag of fresh shrimp for free. They do just the work necessary and you can trust them better than your friends and family. They won't replace parts with unnecessary gold-plated stuff, just with what you need to keep your car running in the condition you want it. I actually signed up for a Yelp account because of CLM! Last month, my new car got vandalized (two huge dents on the side of my car and even the paint fell off) while parked on my street. Needless to say, I was devastated. After searching online for a good auto shop, I read all the great reviews for CLM and took my car in. Robert, who greeted me at the front desk, took a look at my car and gave me a quote and said it'd take about two weeks to fix. He had a great sense of humor and was very clear with explaining what needed to be done to the car. Two weeks later exactly, I came to pick my car up, and he had replaced the whole side of the car and priced me at a very reasonable cost. They actually also told me I could leave the rental car (from Enterprise in Central Square) at the store so I didn't have to make another trip. All in all, although it was no fun paying for damage I never made, this process with CLM couldn't have been any smoother. I would definitely recommend CLM for any auto work. P.S. it was Robert who helped me out. Mario (Robert's brother), is also very nice, but I think people might have gotten them confused. read more

I have had 3 repairs done for my Nissan Maxima in the past 12 months and I am finally compelled to write a review for Mario, Rob and their team. My first was a simple welding job. Mario was able to accommodate me at a day's notice when I had to go to NYC, got it done really quickly and for a pretty reasonable price. The second was a major work when my car got vandalised and I had to replace tail lights, rear-view mirrors. They did the entire job for a little more than half of the dealer's price and restored it to a great condition. The third was the brake job. It was for some noise from the assembly that I took my car there for and Mario pointed out the issue clearly and I ended up just getting my brakes done. This was also at a very short notice as I had to drive out of state for a long trip over the new year's holidays and I am thankful Mario made an exception. I go there for Mario and he is honest, reasonable and fairly knowledgeable person. read more

The first time was busy and I waited patiently in the waiting area but of course no one asked to help me and it was clear I was getting the "dont ask me anything" glare. I decided to stop in on tuesday morning at 10 am assuming they'd be less busy. Again I was completely ignored as I leaned against the counter and then sat down by myself. The CLM staff are the best. I have been a customer for 3 years. I have had an alignment, electronic work, two inspections and will be having them mount some new tires this week. To prove they put the customer first, they informed me to purchase my tires on www.tirerack.com as it would save me money and they would only charge a mounting fee. I went to CLM Auto Repair today for a state inspection sticker. They were busy when I got there, but 15 minutes later, they were able to inspect my car. Not only were they quick, they also installed my license plates without my asking, as well as fixed a small problem with my headlight, for no charge. They were a little abrupt in their communications, but that was not really a problem. Came back a few weeks later to get a tire puncture fixed. They were very helpful, and filled up my spare while they were at it. read more
