I was referred here by a coworker. I had a hard time deciding what I wanted but went with my gut and got the peanut butter and bacon burger and a side of tater totes. The tater totes were awesome and crispy! The burger was also good. The hamburger meat was a bit different from what I've tasted but nevertheless worth eating again. The service was really good. The waitress with the pixie blonde cut was super nice and quick. I sat at the bar and she was very attentive. If I get to stop by again before I leave I would probably try the jam burger which is what the waitress told me was another popular burger there. read more

The menu is fantastic. There are so many options and I am sure that everyone in your party will be able to find something they enjoy on the menu. The pimento cheese burger is great, as well as the jalapeño cream cheese burger. Can't go wrong with these great options. The milkshakes are also amazing. So worth the splurge. It bothers me how the sides (fries/onion rings) come out before the actual burgers. It makes it difficult for people like me (the snacking type) to save any when the meal comes out. Maybe I just need to learn self control. There is minimal seating, but that is to be expected with a hole-in-the-wall type of place. First of all, adorable little place that knows what it does well- burgers. I love when a restaurant has a speciality and owns it. Second of all adorable LITTLE place. So cold and we had to wait forever outside for a table as inside was tiny and limited. The service was not fast but the inside was adorable. Great posters and decorations. Bet the patio is great for summer. The prices are a bit steep. Coming from Atlanta, I can get a natural burger with fries here for the cost of just a burger at clocked. $8 for the burger only?! It was good (I got the onion ring one) but dang. And extra $3 for fries and .55¢ for sauce feels a bit ridiculous. Just call it $10 and get fries, a burger and sauce. Sometimes you visit your niece, an ambitious UGA senior, poised to take on the post-graduation world in a few months, and you ask her to pick a place for dinner. And sometimes you tell her to pick a place that SHE likes to go, cause this is her town, not just a place that she'd think "the grownups" would like. And sometimes she'll say, "Let's go to Clocked!", followed by a partially guilt-sounding, "I probably come here waaay too much." But it's easy to see what she likes in it. Burgers, dogs, and grilled cheeses, with fries, tots, or rings are pure college comfort. They even offer black bean and tempeh options for you veg-heads, and gluten-free buns for those avoiding wheat. Add on a milkshake, cheerwine (not actually wine) or a draft Bell's Brewery offering (if you don't want the more standard soda or sweet tea), and you've got yourself a reasonable night out with friends. If you're going to put a burger with bacon and a generous helping of peanut butter on your menu, I'm going to try it. And despite the fact that I was accused of making "a face" (I really only was worried about the tomatoes) when I first tried it, I really did enjoy it. Though it probably is more a "knife-and-fork" burger than I made it out to be. Wife was happy with her gluten-free bunned burger (she is a sucker for grilled onion). Usually I really like Clocked and we were super hungry and I wanted a burger so that was the destination. However, that's my last visit for a while. The wait staff was generally very inattentive and unfriendly and talked to people who appeared to be their friends while ignoring other customers. As far as my food, I was very disappointed when halfway through my burger there was a short curly dark hair sticking out of the meat. It was clearly not mine, nor the person I was eating with's... so yikes on that front. Mega yikes. I get that slip ups happen but it seems like a many of the cooks have uncovered beards perhaps? This is my personal favorite place to get a burger in Athens (I know, I know Blind Pig is an Athens staple) but Clocked has really good burgers AND an amazing selection to choose from. I found the environment very conducive to conversation although, I can imagine that during the school year if it's more crowded inside it probably gets harder to hear. This is a burger place and I am not a fan of traditional beef burgers but I knew they had vegetarian and chicken options! I decided on the black bean burger but was disappointed to find that it doesn't come with a side. It was a good black bean burger but there was nothing special about it. Recently, my baby sister obtained a sweet suite at the Gameday for my boyfriend and me. My goal heading to Athens can be summed up in one word: EAT. I had only been there once before and enjoyed both meals I'd had, and I knew there was more to come. What with everything being in walking distance, it was basically like having a clean caloric slate. My sister, boyfriend, and I are all huge burger fans (and we also like air and water! Weird!) so when Sister couldn't stop raving about Clocked, Boyfriend and I knew it would be a winner. I loved the funky decor--I would have stolen one of their jello-like glass light fixtures if I thought I could get away with it. The service was friendly and pretty fast. They have a BYOB policy and Boyfriend had just enough time to run to the Gameday and back with a beer before the food arrived. He and I split two burgers, whose clever names escape me (possibly the Meteor and Rodeo, if those are things). One had pepper-jack cheese, chipotle mayo, and jalapenos. It was super freakin' delish. The side of tater-tots were crispy perfection and my only regret is that I couldn't finish them all. The other burger had bbq sauce, an onion ring, and cheddar. The sauce wasn't too sweet and had a nice spicy kick to it. The side of onion rings were the fat beer-battered type. I think I only had one, because I was soooo disgustingly full. My sister's favorite is a bacon-feta burger, and it did not disappoint. She also sprung for the fried pickles, and dude. Not that they COULD be bad, but they were the total opposite of bad. In fact, they were so opposite that they came back around to bad and made it like in the 80s when bad, in fact, meant good. I mean, damn. Excuse me, am I getting ripped off in the teeny tiny village of Athens, GA with its $2 beers, $8 steaks, $5 shows, and $7 movie tickets, or did I accidentally stumble back to New York City? Judging from the expanse of trees and the intense calm outside, methinks I'm still in Georgia. So what is the point of paying that much for a stupid salad? None, unless they're aiming for a bad Yelp review. Despite all that, Clocked has been my favorite burger place for a while. They earn my four stars, because they always know exactly what they're doing when it comes to big, juicy, fluffy patties and buns. Hidden between the sprawling organic fine dining Farm 255 and that quirky thrift store next door, it is the perfect little diner to grab a bite. And their fries, too, are the tastiest I've ever had. (EDIT: Tastiest in Athens, GA) Although the salad, splashed with a home made vinaigrette, was really good, too, it was definitely no better than right-down-the-street The Grit's amazing salads. So, unless you're a vegetarian, I suggest you try the best burgers of your life. And unless Clocked is trying to suddenly become a fine dining restaurant (and failin' miserably), it really needs to embrace its diner identity and jack down the greenery prices. read more

Don't believe the hype. Clocked has OKAY burgers, but they're nothing special. The first time I went to Clocked, I was very drunk, so I didn't really recall too much about it. The second time I went to Clocked, I ordered the peanut butter bacon burger. They forgot the peanut butter. On top of that, I could not track down our server to let him know. The service that night was atrociously slow and there was hardly anyone in there, so I'm not sure why. The third time I went to Clocked, I'm not sure why I went since the second time was pretty much an epic failure. I once again ordered the peanut butter bacon burger. This time it came with both peanut butter AND bacon! It was okay. I mean, the combination of peanut butter and bacon on a burger is pretty unique and yummy, but their burgers are nothing spectacular. To be quite honest, I prefer Five Guys burgers.... and they are a chain. Clocked's burgers are freaking bland as hell. I would probably go back to Clocked... if someone else were paying. Or if I were drunk. But sober and on my dime, I can think of about 50 different places in Athens where I'd rather eat. read more

For my 27th B-day I decided to drag the husband to Athens for a day trip. I had never been there before and all I knew about the town is it's where University of Georgia is and it has kick ass record shops. We spent most of our time walking around the downtown area looking for adventure. Well since it was the summer and we were all types of sweaty, we decided to cool off at the diner down the street. Clocked was a great find. The plastic toy dinosaurs outside of the restaurant were the signal that this place might be totally worthwhile. First off, Clocked has an amazing old school soda selection. You can get Nehi Grape Soda and Cheerwine!!! Plus they serve corndogs and tater tots. I do love me some corn dogs and tots. And try the tots with the cajun seasoning. I still can't give it 4 or 5 til I try it a couple more times--the past haunts me. 8-14-07: Dear Lord. How many times can a girl swear off Clocked!? I have yet to give it another try since a new guy started managing it a few months ago, but going to this place can take upwards of an hour and a half out of your day. But let's start with the good. The decor is fabulous--colorful, sparkly walls, gloriously tacky chandeliers, and awesome posters. The food is pretty good (but not amazing, in my opinion and many of my friends'), and the outdoor seating is a plus. The staff seem overwhelmed when the place is more than half-full. It can take a while to get your glasses of water, even longer to get your order taken, and then comes. the. waiting. for. the. food. The overpriced diner food. I just don't get what the big deal is. The Cajun fries are good, esp. if you order feta dressing--but let's face it, we're stealing that trick from The Grill, an honest-to-goodness diner around the corner. That one burger with blue cheese on it is quite tasty, but when you're ornery after waiting for 45 minutes it's hard to enjoy. And yes, this experience has repeated itself many times over. First exciting thing I noticed: they'd replaced the glaringly bright fluorescent lights in the funky overhead chandeliers with good old incandescents. I am an environmentalist at heart, but I'm also one for nice lighting and happen to be photophobic when it comes to fluorescents, so those lightbulbs meant I couldn't eat indoors before. Now the glaring white has been replaced by a warmer, softer color that makes the place as welcoming as it was before. Close call, folks, as the best thing going for this place is its atmosphere. Pretty yummy, overpriced grilled cheese. $3.75 for a medium-sized sandwich that was perfectly grilled--melted cheddar delight. But only a few slices, so the pieces of bread touched themselves if you squeezed the sandwich in the least. Not the best sign of a supa grilled cheese. The cajun tater tots were yummy but, ya know, tasted like frozen tater tots heated up in the oven instead of in the microwave. And the service was realllllllyyy realllyyy slow. Not like the other times I've gone, but it was pretty bad. Guy put his finger in our glasses as a means of carrying them (ew!), said the food would be "just another minute" when it was ten, and we were there for quite a while. So stopped here for "linner" with friends on a Sunday afternoon after recommendation from hotel clerk. I ordered a special which was something Dobb's grilled cheese. OMG so pesto, spinach, fried green tomato and cheese. It was DELISH. Found it a little odd that the sent out our fries and onion rings, that were sides, before the sandwiches yet one friend got her salad after my sandwich. It made me super uncomfortable, especially when they made a joke about how I must love hearing about all their social lives. Huh? Yeah, ha ha. Funny. I came into this place very optimistic, having found it off Yelp and read all of the good reviews. However, I was let down. I rarely ever write bad reviews for restaurants, and I wouldn't say this one is necessarily bad. I just wouldn't go back. The cheeseburger that I ordered was soggy and fell apart as I ate it, which is a personal problem because I like my burgers to stay together. I ordered a salad instead of fries, saying to my waitress that I wanted it to come ahead of time because I was very hungry. The salad ended up coming after I had eaten my burger, which didn't make sense to me and bothered me because I no longer wanted it. The fact that sauces like Honey Mustard cost extra also kind of bothered me. The atmosphere outside is very nice and our server was nice, but there was nothing spectacular about this restaurant. I had a hard time deciding on whether to give 1 or 2 stars, so I'll just give 2 and let you decide if you can eat here. They have roaches. After placing our order, I gasped when I saw a roach crawling its little way down the wall by the bar. I quickly pointed it out to my friend who laughed at my disgust. After convincing myself that maybe, just maybe, no insect would be coming into contact with my food, I saw the same roach meet up with another roach! They just kind of chilled there for a little bit, like this whole thing was normal. It was then that I decided I just couldn't come back here, but since I was with a friend I decided to at least eat my food this time. (Crazy, I know.) I had the South Street burger and sweet potato fries with feta sauce. The food is decent, but I've had better. It truly is just like a five guys burger with more options. Nothing to write home about. The first time we went it took forever to get served but the burgers were good (they have very unique burger combinations). We thought we'd give them another chance... big mistake! The 30 min wait was expected. The 1.5 hrs sitting in the sun outside waiting for food was not expected. We were brought our sides (fries, onion rings, and totts) as appetizers because burgers were taking so long. After being there a total of 2 hrs or so we asked for our check and our food to come out in to go boxes since we were now running late. (BTW two of our neighboring tables has been waiting even longer, has received their sides as apps also due to the length of time, and left without ever getting their burgers). My husband and kids ate their food in the car on the way home (I drove). We had ordered our burgers all med and med well. They were all VERY well done. Definitely will not be returning. We asked the the man behind the counter at wuxtry records where his favorite place was to get a burger in Athens and he said Clocked. I am so glad we asked him because I had one of the best burgers ever. We had a double Bronco Burger and it was delicious! Our first meal in Athens after walking around post-arrival and we couldn't have been happier. The hostess seated us at a picnic table in front of the restaurant, which was great for people watching - though we all got tired of the slanted pitch of the table. The food very good - burgers had a bit of pepper spice to it and the onion rings were excellent. My daughter that doesn't like onion rings even liked them. My wife really enjoyed her salad as well. The only thing that kept this review to 4 stars was our server, who was not very knowledgeable. I've been here twice and both times have been so great. Both times I got the Friendship Burger with fries and garlic aoili. Y'all, such a good burger. My friend and I literally for the entire 30 minutes we were there, talked about how good our burgers were. The second time, I took my boyfriend and he got the ring of fire burger. He was so in love with the flavors and the spiciness. The garlic aoili is so yummy with the crispy fries. I also dabbed some of it on my burger. The service was great both times.
