Clothes Mentor is one of the best and now have an online presence as well - but I love old school browsing, still. After 40 years of buying, today was a first. Today was my first try at selling. I wasn't sure what to expect - but they made the process very simple. I have been purging and donating... hand-selected some brand new with tags jewelry and shoes, along with some gently-used shoes. I did well.... they offered to purchase all of the new items I brought, and I felt the offer was fair. You do receive more funds if you are willing to accept a store credit - but since I'm downsizing, it felt like a good decision to take cash. All in? I dropped off my basket and had a text advising my order was processed. You have 24 hours to meet with the store and discuss the offer to finalize. They keep what you agree to sell and you take back your basket of what they pass on buying (which includes any boxes from items they buy). I recycled the boxes and dropped the rest at a local donation site. Easy! The store is clean, well-organized, and well-staffed. I was helped by 3 people between the drop off and offer and they were all very friendly and helpful. This really is a great way to reduce, reuse, and recycle fashion and accessories. I shop at high end stores, and don't wear my clothes for too long. They are current and in very nice condition (no tears, stains or wear). They take nothing. I go through the clothes on the racks, and I am stumped. I see tops that are so worn, they should be in the garbage. I brought in seven jeans from Nordstrom, Lululemon pants (worn once), WHBM tops. They took none of it. I'm not even sure they went through it. It was a young lady, so I'm not sure she knows what women my age are looking for. I am not being biased when I say my stuff was by far nicer that a lot of what I saw they had. Very disappointing. read more

I have been selling to clothes mentor, particularly high end handbags here and there for years and primarily at the Dublin location before it recently shut down. Almost EVERY time I try to sell at the Upper Arlington location, I'm told they will "pass" on my handbags because there's a smoke smell ?! I do not smoke and live in a smoke free home and I'm a clean person. A lot of the handbags I attempt to sell to Upper Arlington location are actually brand new, almost never been used that have been sitting on my closet tucked away just taking up space so I find it "interesting" how my items are accused of smelling like "smoke" ?!! Sidnote, never had this issue at Dublin location right up the road and every time I have walked into the Upper Arlington location, I'm being stared down and looked at like I have 3 eyeballs -the energy is always weird and fake , maybe because I'm a black woman, light in skin tone who could pass for white but who wears their hair in braids and thats not something you see often over in the Upper Arlington area is to why I'm steady getting denied a sale ?! I just tried to sell a brand new Coach bag I bought in March with tags still on it that had a MSRP of $150 and they tried to give me about $20 for it ?! I've sold here a handful of times and had a pretty good experiences until recently (as good as resale clothes can get). One worker was very rude regarding some of the items I brought in and her comments were not necessary. Very unprofessional and will think twice before going back. read more

Horrible experience. Been selling here on/off for several years. It depends on who is working and buying. Large turnover of staff. Recently though repeatedly awful. Young snappy workers who now have a bit of "buying power" SMH, terrible, they didn't buy anything??? Usually most of my items are purchased. They were snickering.. it's really becoming too much trouble will just donate in the future. Management really needs to address service issue. read more

A little out of the way over on Henderson Road, this women's resale clothing shop fills a gap in the Plato's Closet family: clothes for the working woman. They carry gently used clothes from stores like Ann Taylor, Gap and Nordstrom. Unlike Plato's Closet, Clothes Mentor sells clothes for adults. They are also a little better about what they will accept for cash here, though they are still darn picky. How did they end up with some of the crap on their racks if they are so picky? Service here was great. Organization was ok. Racks are a little packed to browse easily. The reason for my one star review? The sign above the register. "Your husband called and said you could buy anything you want." When I asked about it and explained my discomfort the answer was 'well we've had that here for years.'. Not good enough. I'm an empowered, employed woman who doesn't need to have her husbands permission. This sign just promotes a view that women cannot make good choices on their own. Sorry clothes mentor. I took expensive, high end clothes for resale. All in good shape. Several coats, 2 leather jackets, sweaters, skirt. Banana Republic, Talbots, Ann Taylor to name a few. They did not buy anything. They do not realize what good clothes are. I do not recommend them. I now will donate to the needy. read more

Wow, I cannot believe I have not written a review for Clothes Mentor in Columbus, OH! Upon recommendations from my friend, I visited this store towards the end of my time in Columbus. Graduation was coming up, and I needed a graduation dress. I wanted to find a beautiful white dress. Upon entering this store, I didn't know what to expect. There were a few things here and there that caught my eye, but nothing yet, until... I stumbled upon the women's dresses in the "higher-end" professional wear section. I fell in love. I kept finding items that were in mint, like-new condition in my size. I remember taking over 10 items in the dressing room. They had to ask me to leave a few items on the door rack outside, which I didn't mind. I ended up loving three professional-looking stressed, one of which was the white graduation dress I ended up taking professional pictures in, and a casual dress. I had a fantastic experience here. The prices were less than half of what I would pay for a brand new item. I felt like I was leaving with one of a kind gems. My only regret is not finding this store sooner...I wish there were Clothes Mentors in California! Whenever I'm back in Columbus, this store will be my first stop. read more

Apparently all the clothes I brought in weren't within their 2 year window, so I was given everything back. Yet I know for a fact I have a few outfits that were fairly new, at least 2015. I was completely shocked! As a design student I do not understand what constitutes, their idea of fashionable attire. As fashionable pieces never goes out of style, especially classic pieces such as a clean white shirt and 2 denim shirts(which I had) as it can be used in several different ways. At this store I noticed several items that looked as though they belonged in 2012. In my opinion, it makes more sense to shop at Ohio thrift or retail stores such as T.J. Maxx Marshall's or H&M, as they know more what they are in style and you'll definitely get a better deal there! Anyways I'll be donating my clothes to my local UA goodwill:) read more

I have some gently used clothes and shoes and I took them to Clothes Mentor for a quote. They are name brands: Loft, Banana Republic, J Crew, Aldo, Celvin Klein, and are in good conditions, a few of them even have price tag on them. But the result was an absolute joke! Out of 20 items, they only picked 2, and the offer I got is $7, less than 1/10 of what I spent on them, not 1/3 as they advertised. I noticed a lot of retuned items are unfolded, they did not even look at them! I would NOT sell anything there, all they want is to buy clothes real cheap and resell to make money. The customer service there is terrible, I'd rather donate my clothes to Goodwill! Never ever coming back! read more

Boy oh boy do I love you Clothes Mentor! Here is what is important: Great second hand goods that are really well organized by size. They have tons of great clothes here, and I have yet to leave the store empty handed. You'll pay more here than you would at some thrift shops, but this is not what I would consider a thrift shop. I love hoe spacious this location is, because several people can browse in one aisle at the same time without bumping into each other and crowding in. They have accessories, bags, shoes, coats, maternity, athletic wear and everything else. I love the selection, the cleanliness and the helpful staff. I do wish they'd let me take more than 6 items into a dressing room at one time, but they allow you to park your cart outside the fitting rooms and swap them out as you go. All in all, GO QUICKLY. Unless you wear the same size as me and have generally the same taste, in which case I prefer you don't come here and let me have all the great deals to myself! read more

Besides having the WORST name of any business ever created and being IMPOSSIBLE to find using Google Maps, I like going to this place! There are two locations in town, and this one seems to have the better selection of purses and maternity clothes. The people are friendly and helpful and the selection is great. I am always impressed with their shoe selection, the majority of which seems to be either new or just worn once! They advertise how they have such name brands but when I went there I was hard pressed to find many of those name brands. Sure they had the name brand purses hanging on the walls but for the prices they were asking for - you could get a new one at an outlet mall or wait for a good sale at Macy's. Their prices were just too high for a resale place and the styles were limited. I thought I was in a Goodwill for a moment (until I checked out what they were selling some things for). Again - go to an outlet or sometimes TJMaxx or Marshall's and get it new. What really ticked me off was I brought in some things of mine I wanted to see if I could get a few bucks for - the girl eventually got to my box, lifted up the first thing and peered into the box at the others and rejected the lot of them without even taking them out of the box. Rejected????? I had JCrew, Calvin Klein, Banana Republic, and Ann Taylor in that box. A couple of the items still had the tags on them cause I never wore them (one silk blouse was just a month old) and they were all rejected? What? Pencil skirts aren't in style? There has got to be a better resale place out there somewhere cause this is not it! read more

I've never been a big fan of consignment/thrift stores, for the simple fact that most don't carry plus-size section. This store is different, however. There is plus size items at the end of each "department" (ex: shirts, pants, jackets, etc). They are separate by size, then further grouped by color. Quality items - a lot of name brand clothes at a very decent price! I will definitely make it a point to come here more often! read more

A national chain (affiliated with Plato's Closet) that sells dressier/business"i-er" women's clothing, targeting 20's-40's Inventory summary -they boast designer labels, which is so/so. They have a couple of racks dedicated to Dooney Burke and Coach purses, but the prices were pretty outlandish for used stuff. -nice shoe selection, with some really cute finds -athletic section -large casual dress section Clothing Sale Summary: -clothing bought outright -Present a valid photo ID (must be 18 and older) -drop off items in a basket/box -pick up your cash and stuff they passed on (they give you 30% of what they price the item for) The process itself took half an hour, no appointments read more

It was not too bad of an experience, but they gave about 3.20 per item they took. 1 xl purse a pair of jeans and a dress and then 4 pieces of jewelry.......i was ripped off for sure, but kinda knew that's how they do it. For years I have been dropping my clothes off at the Goodwill. But things have gotten a little tight this year and when I discovered I could earn some cash for my gently used clothes I was relieved. I brought in a large box of business casual clothes on a Saturday afternoon. You have the choice to drop off your things and wait or return later that evening to get your cash and unwanted items. I decided to wait since I needed a pair of jeans myself. I spent about 30 minutes total cruising the racks and unfortunately didn't find anything. If I didn't have a thing against wearing someone elses shoes I would have hit the jackpot - great selection of shoes! But no jeans for me and the sweaters were a little too worn. After another 20 minutes the staff was slowly looking through my things making two piles. They ended up accepting everything that was in season and asked that I return in March with the spring items. They ended up giving me $25 for a pile of clothes that initially cost me about $350 four months earlier. But I'll take the $25 cause I lost 20 pounds this summer and have to intention of fitting into them again. I'll be back in the spring, and hopefully they'll have some cute skirts! read more

If you want to try to sell your once loved clothes and leave feeling like crap, by all means come here or even worse go next door to Platos closet. Clothes mentor took NONE if my items except for 2 real silver necklaces with tag still attacted and gave me $4, wow! If I would have really not liked them (christmas gifts) I would have kept them but the fact that I dropped off a huge bag of stuff and came back hours later I wanted to leave having made SOMETHING and not have it be a total loss. I have stopped in here several times since my last review. I have sold clothes here, rag-o-rama, and plato's closet. While the other two stores really only want casual clothes, Clothes Mentor takes dressy clothes AND active wear. I recommend this place to all my teacher friends. The price point can get pricey ($6-12 is the range) for already-worn clothes. However, I tend to get sick of my clothes fast, or spill something on them anyway, so I don't really need nice clothes to wear to work. I determine my size, what color I am in the mood for, and work from there. I like that there are so many misses brands all together just waiting to be discovered. I never would probably buy Ann Taylor, The Loft, or Express clothes full price, so its nice buying them cheap. A few cons that stop this from being the best store it could be: -6 item room limit, locked doors. Do you really think people are going to steal used clothes? All the nice purses are locked up. It slows down my shopping flow! Boo! -The dresses are way overpriced ($10-25) and everyone knows you wear dresses far less than tops or bottoms. -Only 7 days to return items, no returns on sales. All in all, a good store for a lady on a budget! Great for the times when you don't feel like walking the entire mall for a bargain. read more

I also love Genny and Holly they do such a great job they are always super helpful and friendly. I had a wonderful experience today shopping! I have been really having a hard time for years trying to find what really looks good on my body type-and Jessica was like we got this!! She then took me around to each department and started grabbing clothes in my size. I got a few key pieces for work....exactly what I came in there for!! I have been to Clothes Mentor a few times now. The workers are friendly and helpful. As I'm not confident with putting together outfits, I asked for help tonight, and within 20 minutes had exactly what I needed. Although I haven't tried it yet, they also offer a personal shopper service, where they'll help you pick out an entire wardrobe, including bling and accessories! After tonight's success, I may have to try it out. read more

I took several high end items in excellent condition into the store as I waited for them to look over my items I browsed their racks of clothes. The clothes I saw on the racks were either out dated or showed signs of serious wear. The clothes I brought in were from Ann Taylor, J crew, BCBG and Victoria Secret all in excellent condition and maybe worn once if at all. Out of the 20 items they only kept 2 pair of pants, of course they kept those because they were boot cut and nobody wears boot cut any more. Since when does nobody want a cashmere black sweater?? That is something that is always classic and in style. So long story short, if you want out dated clothes that are worn out.. Go to clothes mentor. read more

Went here to sell clothes with a friend. My clothes took an hour before I received a text that they were ready for pickup. My friend has been waiting over 5 hours. We dropped off our items at the same time so it was very frustrating that they were not going in order of arrivals. When we complained about how we were told an hour one of the workers snapped back and said that is just an estimate time. That she was the only one going through clothing. While their are two other workers just chatting behind the registers not doing anything. I used to love coming here to shop and and sell clothes but I don't appreciate the attitude from the worker I received today. Thank you Miranda for the negative attitude I will never be shopping at you location again. You talked negatively about the schedule and staffing instead of doing your job. People come to shop and have a good time, not to be surrounded by the negative energy you create. read more

Overpriced for what it is. A lot of stuff seems really worn--I've seen stains and holes in clothes there several times.

Love this place. I always walk out of this store with a deal! I'll agree with some of the other comments-some of the clothes they accept are outdated and certainly not "upscale", but you can find some gems hidden in those racks! I've walked away with Macy's-quality clothes that were hardly worn for a fraction of the price I would have paid at Macy's! Clothes mentor is good to shop at but NOT to sell. They pretty much give you pennies for the clothes you bring in. & no I'm not talking old, worn in items. I'm talking about pretty much new in style items. Once I sold them a pair of boots I had only worn once, the manager told me a story about how she didn't think they could sell them for much so she just paid me $12 for them. 2 days later I went in & they were on display to sell for $70 dollars. If you want to sell your clothes go to clothes encore. They give you more money & the one in gahanna is right around the corner from clothes mentor. Thank me later. read more

I have been to other Clothes Mentor in Illinois and so excited to find out Ohio does as well. I am accustomed to other mentor stores being more high end where the Prada, Jimmy Choo, and Gucci handbags and shoes are displayed behind the register. This one does not have super high brands but I still find some great items. Be prepared to stay for a few hours. You do need to look through every rack since they carry so many brands sizes do vary. I do bring in my items to sell and generally they buy about 70-80% of what I bring in. It not much but it typical covers what I buy that day and maybe a few dollars back. read more

Terrible experience. I brought in 3 high end pieces that I've never worn (never fit right) and a beautiful full length faux fur (VERY high end). The staff (and I suspect the owner) was unprofessional. They requested my ID (to be entered into their computer system) before they even looked at my items or discussed an offer. When I challenged the necessity and security of providing that type of information, I was trated as if I was the problem and told "anyone can find your socialsecurity nmber online so what's the big deal". I asked to see a written explanation of the security of their system and they couldn't provide. Of course then, they had no onterest in my items. If this is a franchise operation, you'd think they would be anxious to at least create a good impression. I can understand if my sophisticated clothing style doesn't sell in their location, but there's no need to be ignorant. I would neither sell nor buy from this location or any other, nore recommend to friends. I'd rather give my leathers and silks to friends or charity than support such a poorly managed franchise owner. read more

I've found this to be a great place to shop for additions to my wardrobe. I'm on a tight budget, and I love coming in to get mall-level brands for a very small cost. Last week I stopped in and bought an Express sweater ($6) and an Ann Taylor Loft casual knit shirt ($5.) Last year while I was pregnant, I bought about 80% of my maternity clothes here. I found some fantastic dresses that were like new, cardigans, and some basic Ts. I'm very glad this store is so close to my home. I'm surprised at the numerous negative reviews. However, that seems to stem from the frustration of them not accepting clothes for sale. I've never sold clothes to Clothes Mentor, so I can't speak to that. Even though they only had one isle of actual maternity clothes, I liked it. When they told me that only the first isle had maternity clothes, I was a little disappointed. But I looked through the clothes and I was impressed. At first I didn't think I'd find anything because I was skinny pre-pregnancy and basically look the same but I'm all belly and all I was finding was like really large shirts that wouldn't fit me even though I was pregnant lol. I kept looking and found a lot of nice clothes that I'd even be able to wear after I got back in shape. I thought that it would be by itself but one side is Platos Closet and the other is Clothes Mentor in the same building. From my experience, I recommend to the mommy-to-bes that are just all belly to try it out. But I did see a lot of stuff that pregnant women who gained extra weight could wear too. read more

Drove all the way from Delaware to bring in a purse and wallet because it's difficult to find places that buy brand names. The lady at the counter said that she had two other sellers ahead of me, so she wouldn't get to my one item for half an hour. I couldn't wait around, so I left it with her and decided to come back tomorrow. The next day, I called ahead of time to see if an offer had been made. They passed on it. I guess a Dior purse and wallet that I got last year isn't good enough for these snobs. Waste of time. read more

If you can get past the rude women at the North Olmsted store it is a good place to shop and sell. They tell you to come back in half an hour and people who walked in after you and waited have their money handed to them and your clothes haven't even been entered so you can get your money. It used to be fairly easy to find great things here, but I guess when they got bigger they started getting less picky about what they take in. In the past I'd found great buys here in excellent shape, now their "designer" labels are more like store brands.
