I saw a FB live video the morning of 6/19/26 in which the host said to comment below to "hold" a bag. Which I did. I went about my morning waiting for a message that my comment was seen but I did not so I drove to the store. When I walked in and mentioned the hold, the woman who did the video said she didn't have any holds and that she doesn't check messages on FB when it was clear in her video she said "comment below". The bag I wanted held was out on the floor and thankfully I got it but the experience was so disorganized. I decided to shop a bit and the store is so packed. It is not easy to see the size "signs" and it got pretty overwhelming. I love the bag I purchased and it was at a great price but I highly doubt I would shop there. read more

I spent 2 hours in this store and I found a tick in my hair that I pulled out. I asked the staff for a lighter to kill it or a napkin. The worked told me to step on it which you cannot step on a tick to kill like you would a spider. 5 minutes later the manager came out and asked me if I had an infection in front of all the other customers. I was absolutely mortified and in tears leaving the store after they wouldn't let me try on the clothes or continue on with a buy. I was treated like a biohazard for finding a tick in my hair which I could have easily gotten from their store. They threatened to call the police on me if I didn't leave the store. This place is a little more expensive than some thrift shops (average item is ~$15 or more), but sometimes they have sales when they're overstocked. Staff is nice. I walked into this store on Saturday, April 11th. Several employees and the owner were at the counter and did not greet me as I walked in not ask if I'd like to see wanting as I approached the counter with the designer shoe items. Customer service was horrible. I stood at the counter for at least 10 to two of the employees talking, eating, spraying body spray on each other and applying lotion without an acknowledgement. Clothes Mentor in Orland used to be my goto over Plato's. They have purchased more from me than Plato's has in the past. However, this has seemed to change in the past year or so. I have brought it plenty of age appropriate and name brand items with tags only to be turned down for them "not fitting needs of customers" or "being too worn"....how is that possible when they havent been worn at all? It also used to be the same employees id see everytime i went in, now its newer faces, which is nice too. However, last time i went in to sell, i looked around while waiting for my items to be looked at. I could hear them talking about my items. When i finally went up after getting the text it was ready, i stood there as who i presume was the manager Kristina looked right at me then ignored me to do other things like chat with the other employee doing work on the computer and then walk out from the back of the counter to mess with stuff in the baskets on it. Finally had to speak up to me acknowledged only to be told they were passing on everything....as i did have items i think wouldve fit perfect in the store for both the season and target customer. read more

This store is horrible with buying your items . Everytime I go here I always see them refusing to buy people's nice items some are even still New with tags. Meanwhile I've seen items with tears ,stains etc that they bought and are for sale in their store smh . They only wanna give you $3 and $4 for stuff that cost $hundreds of dollars . And they resale it for very high upscale prices. I've even brought a few items in there that they already have in their store for sale and they refuse to buy mines but they bought it from someone else . I will not be shopping here or recommending this store to anyone. I've seen people come pick up their items they drop off and they haven't even bought 1 item from them they will send you home saying your items are too pre loved or not in style. When you can walk around an and find the same item for sale that's in worser condition in their store or an item that's a lot similar for sale. Furthermore I find that a lot of the clothing they have for sale is outta style , old fashioned and outdated they have the nerves to refuse a lot of people items . I live in orland park and the store has been going down hill for years- but today was the absolute worst in my experience.., I brought in 4 coach items 2 handbags (1) was brand new never used . 1 large pouch still in the original wrapping with tags attached and a silk coach bandana scarf ..... I asked for the itemize cost for each item !!! SHOCKED THEY OFFERED ME $9 + $14+$5+ $4 ...terrible because my items were in like new condition and I did look at the subpar handbags they are selling for 4x times what they offered me and those bags look used beyond belief !!! The most uneducated clothes mentor around!Brought a vintage Chanel bag in and was told my bags serial sticker was missing sparkles and deemed unauthentic.Maybe the owner should educate herself on vintage Chanel 1980s bags they DO NOT have sparkles!! Store is over packed making it near impossible to go through the racks. The shoes are haphazardly thrown on top of a shelf over the clothes racks with mixed assortment of sizes. The purses are all tangled up on long wall hangers, again making it impossible to look through. As you know may or may not know, Clothes Mentor comes from the same parent company concept of Once Upon a Child, Plato's Closet, and New Uses. Customers can bring in new or gently used, brand name items (within for 2 to 3 years old) for a Clothes Mentor "Buyer" to evaluate whether they will accept the item and for the Clothes Mentor "Buyer" to provide a value they will offer you. The offer is "supposedly 30%" of what Clothes Mentor will turn around and sell the merchandise for. You have the option to accept or decline the full offer, or you may remove some items from your "buy" if you wish. In the end, the transaction is totally up to you. As an avid consigner and donator, as well as adventuresome thrift shopper, estate sale shopper, and garage sell frequenter for the past 25 years, I fully appreciate what is offered at Clothes Mentor. In most instances, Clothes Mentor has made life easier for the owner of the items so you do not have to stand outside in the hot summer heat to have a garage sale and possibly sell your items for pennies on the dollar. Clothes Mentor has also eliminated the expenses associated with trying to sell your quality items on Ebay. And, Clothes Mentor has eliminated the concern of having to deal with strangers when selling items on Craigslist. On the other hand, Clothes Mentor has made things easier for the purchaser as well. Clothes Mentor has eliminated the average thrift, estate sale, and garage sale experience of feeling like you have spent all day sifting through "junk" in order to find one or two gems. The major "Con" to the whole experience is as seller, you feel like Clothes Mentor is not truly giving you very much money for your very pricey, name-brand item(s). As the shopper, the major "Con" is you may feel like items are a little overpriced for "Resale." Overall, I have loved stopping in Clothes Mentor whenever I drive past. It is a nice Women's Resale experience, in a clean and organized store. Items are separated by category and size. They even have a behind the counter display of designer catches, such as Ugg, Juicy Couture, Coach, Kate Spade, etc. You actually never know what you may find, and as with all other Resale or Thrift Stores, you really have to look over your items well to ensure there are no defects you will be unhappy with. There are women's jeans, tanks, short sleeve, and long sleeve shirts, as well as dress slacks, casual slacks, skirts, and jeans. Additionally, you can find accessories such as scarves, earrings, necklaces, bracelets, rings. Finally, there are designer and handbags and shoes. There is even a small maternity section. There are typically reduced items, which have been marked with a colored sticker. You have to read the store signs or ask the sales associate for the color discounts at that time. And, every so often, there are special sale nights, as well as e-mail or text message promotions. So, it is a great idea to sign up for the notifications. Finally, there is a return policy for regular price clothing items (10 days), however you cannot return discounted items, any shoes or accessories. Sales associates are typically very friendly and helpful. Many of the associates have learned names of the regular customers and they seem to present a "family atmosphere." There is great parking available, especially now that Plato's Closet moved to another location. Word of caution: There is no public restroom! read more

The buyer at location is beyond rude. She seemed annoyed with my questions about the selling process and commented that my questions could be answered by looking at the brochure. As a seller and buyer- I LOVE THIS PLACE! They are so, so kind here and so helpful, and they have such an incredible selection for price points of any kind. Aside from that, they actually genuinely pay good money for your clothes, accessories, jewelry, everything! So I have been back to this Clothes Mentor location in the past week, and I really have to say I like how they have turned things around for the better. I have been a long-time customer of Clothes Mentor (been going to this location way back when it was Plato's) The store has changed hands lately when it comes to employees, but the staff they have now are amazing! When I go in this place to sell (as I don't anymore because I make more selling on OfferUp) for some reason they won't take my clean great condition clothing and Handbags for whatever lame reasons they always give, yet they have stained shirts on the rack and purses hanging by the last of its thread (not all of them but majority of the handbags) I mean Clothes Mentor needs to keep in mind if your trying to keep a business you need items and with that being said stop acting as if you can't take items in good condition, I'm sure customers ain't worried about how many years ago something came out as long as it's something they like.... My expectations were quite low as any store located directly next to a Plato's Closet has to be pulling their foot traffic....so I expected strange and odd finds and nothing that was going to be of interest to my fickle fashion sense. What I found was quite different.... A store full of organized, reasonably priced grown woman clothes. There were some oddities like a pair of a couple seasons ago Tory Burch sandal wedges that were quite worn for $90 but for the most part the prices were more than reasonable for actual designer merchandise not just Forever 21 throw aways. Spotted a pair of calfskin Jimmy Choo's for $80 and I would have snatched them up too but (sad face) they were too small. Roam around the entire store......you never know what someone put down in the wrong place. Definitely take some time here, it is well worth it. Bonus: They have a huge clearance rack that was 75% off the already marked prices which were ridiculously low to begin with. I got a couple things for around 3 bucks a piece. You can't beat that at a Salvation Army.... P.S.S.: The women who work there were really helpful and genuinely interested in helping every customer make an outfit out of their finds. I liked that they were interested in the customers and not just ringing things up like it was a Walgreens. Good job ladies you made me smile! read more

I went in a few weeks ago to sell some items, and I was mostly satisfied with the experience. I received $28 in cash for one nice dress, 2 pairs of sandals, and a Coach wristlet. I heard the manager say that they would sell the Coach wristlet for $25 and to give me half. In hindsight, I probably could have gotten more than $12.50 for it on ebay. Sometimes it's just easier to sell things immediately, in person, and be done with it. I looked around while I was waiting for my items to be priced. I didn't really come across anything I had to have, but they did have some nice clothes, shoes, and purses. There seemed to be a ton of inventory in bins behind the counter that hadn't been brought out yet. The clothes were mostly office casual. I didn't see any formal wear available. The jewelry section is pretty small. I'm not sure that I'd go back for shopping purposes, but I might sell some other items in the future. read more

Very organized store but needs to be more selective with their merchandise, I saw stains on some Ann Taylor pants that were still selling for $30...but like any resale store it is hit and miss. Let me start this out by saying that I LOVE the Clothes Mentor in Schaumburg. So, yes, I have a good base of comparison. This location is very clean and well kept, but could benefit from a bit of feng shui... The setup is a bit strange. And overall, I wasn't too impressed with their selection or their pricing methodology. I guess I'm a bit spoiled having shopped in Scaumburg and always happening upon real designer names like Chloe, Dior, and Yves Saint Laurent, but seriously, do used Ann Taylor pants really need to go for $30? That's probably what they were priced when they were brand new and on the clearance rack! Visited the store during the clearance sale and was pleasantly surprised by the plus sized selection. Lots of variety in designers and brands. Store is small, so you will be doing some maneuvering if there are more than 2 people in the aisle. Handbag section could do with some organizing. Had a few designer bags out with the "regular" bags and would not sell them at noted clearance prices. However, sales staff was pleasant about it and I didn't make a fuss. Well Clothes Mentor, our short love affair is unfortunately over. I recently discovered Clothes Mentor (CM) about three months ago. I was so impressed with the designer products at an affordable price. But, as of this past weekend, that all changed. I visited the store Friday. I purchased a couple things (as usual, more than I intended). I had been telling all of my friends and family about CM. The next day, my niece begged me to take her based on my previous recommendations. I was completely embarrassed. When we got there, we went through the racks and the prices on nearly everything was either double or close to it. I thought it was just me until the other customers shopping with me noticed the same thing. I was shocked to see price tags that read $50 and $60 dollars on the floor. Although I've only been shopping there a few months, myself nor the more veteran patrons had never experienced sticker shock like this. I/we feel betrayed by CM. To add insult to injury, when you bring clothes in to sell, the offers they provide are insulting. At first this was not an issue because I figured the prices were affordable enough and it would be a wash since I am a more frequent buyer. Well, I just brought some clothes in from when I was working, some I never got to wear, which still had the tags on them, High end names, like Dolce&Gabbana pants with the tags, Mercer & Madison angora top, new....A brand new Gucci top, yes, all authentic....and Lots of other very high end items.....They wanted nothing to do with the high end items, only took 3 items for 11.00, 1 a brand new dress with jacket from Max studio, and a couple of other things....I don't know what they were thinking but they definatly lost out big here....Also, the girl was quite "not nice", never made eye contact, very short with answers....and it was not even busy....Ok place to shop tho, but I don't think I will be bringing any more items in to try to sell. read more

Now Please example: I went in today, October 14, 2017 @7:32pm with a small bag of clothes to sell, when I walked in the lady at the front stated "I am not taking in any more buys, this is my last bag" she had one full bag on the counter which would've been done at a reasonable time and she could've went through my bag,I only had 5 things in the bag! She had dark black hair and is kind of chubby. I just don't understand why this employee thinks she can enforce different rules/times. NOTHING was bought from what I brought in, and I had to go back to my deceased mother's house with all of the bags and items and find other vintage stores in the Chicago area. Clothes Mentor in Orland is a blessing for a working woman on a budget. I love a deal and this is it. The prices are a bit higher than traditional thrift stores, but the brands are better (Ann Taylor, Banana Republic, The Limited, etc.) and sometimes the price tags are still on them. Clothes Mentor: This place is horrible. First impression? Dirty. That was my first turn off. It was also very, very messy and so crowded that you could barely move- especially if another person or two was in the same aisle. The racks are quite tall giving each aisle a "tunnel effect". Claustrophobia, anyone? I bought in clothes to sell- nice classic looks. The young woman who helped me rattled off a memorized list of what the store would accept/not accept. It was so fast I couldn't take it all in. Left counter area to walk around. I was a little concerned that my clothes might be a bit old but after looking at what was on the racks I didn't see a problem. I had worked for a major department store- in women's sportswear- until about nine years ago. I saw a few things that I recognized from back then. I also saw some really cheap, trashy looking stuff. There was an incredible number of capri pants and jeans. Frankly, I didn't see anything that interested me. So, I had much the same experience as Carol W.. Was offered $14 for three items. Their rule is that they won't accept clothes more than a year or two old. Ha! The accepted pieces from my pile of stuff were two tops probably six or seven years old and a jacket (very classic style, never worn) that had to be nine or ten years old. I asked why they didn't accept the other things and the answer was that those types of pieces don't sell. But the stuff in the store does?? OMG. They sure aren't catering to career women or even women with much taste. I have to say again- much of what I saw on those racks was old and out of fashion. The experience was something of a joke. I really expected this store to be quite different- perhaps more boutique like. Too bad that all it turned out to be was more junk crammed into a tiny, messy little store. It was my first time going into this store to sell clothing. I purposely showed up when the store opened as I wanted to sell them my clothing and wait in the store while they figured out how much they wanted to buy. There were only two women working on a Sunday and they told me it would be about 45 minutes. I wandered the store for about 20 minutes and they still never touched my two boxes of clothes waiting on the counter. Then I asked about how much longer it would be before they could help me and she answered about an hour. I took my son out for lunch in the strip mall and came back. After an hour and a half, they still had not touched my clothes. I don't live nearby and therefore didn't want to drop my things off and come back another day/time. I ended up leaving after wasting two hours and receiving NO help. There should have been more people working on a weekend. I will NOT be going back to this store. read more
