There's a walk up order window to place your order and the folks, there, deliver your cutlery and food to an outdoor table of your choosing. There were a couple groups of diners there, so the food came out really quick. The rolls were unique and wonderfully fresh. The Last Chair Roll was super interesting with crispy quinoa, which I think normally is tempura flakes. They close around 7pm, which I guess makes sense since it's all outdoor seating and no lighting. Def would come back, really refreshing for a warm day. read more

Every summer when we come to Tahoe, one of the places we most look forward to returning to is Cloud Sushi. We've been many times now, and it never disappoints. Tonight was delicious, as always. The sashimi was beautiful, fresh, generous, and served with all these lovely edible vegetables that make the whole plate feel special. They also have fresh wasabi, which is such a treat and not something you find everywhere. We also love the Cloud Roll, the Old Gold Roll, the miso soup, and the cucumber salad. Took a trip out to Truckee to try the Cloud Sushi spot. We decided to get a large spread that made for a nice tasting. It's a walk up window with some free, designated parking. There are a handful of tables outside that the team brings food out to. One of the really nice features is that you can get a side of real wasabi! The hawk tuna roll was great, especially with a little dab of wasabi. The last chair roll was quite tasty, very good. The Cloud 9 roll was ok but a bit underwhelming compared to the others. The A5 Albacore sashimi was delicious, very fresh and thick cut. The Moriawase sashimi plate was excellent with some stand out items. The medium fatty tuna was buttery and melt in your mouth,the scallops were excellent and a buttery taste, the salmon was nice and thick cut, the lean tuna was also thick cut and very good. This place is exceptional. By far, one of the best meals I've had in Truckee, as a semi-local and frequent visitor. We have heard good things about this place and gave it a try on Saturday. We placed an order about 3:00pm, for a 5:30pm pick up. We showed up at 5:30 to a very disorganized restaurant. There was no pick up spot for a pre-ordered meal......so, we stood in line for about 45 minutes before finally being helped. I have no idea why they would let us choose a specific pick up time when ordering, then make you wait in line for your food.......makes no sense!!!!! We ordered a variety of sashimi, nigiri, rolls and salads. The fish was absolutely amazing!!!! However the rolls were small and they forgot one of our rolls (14 bux down the drain) the 3 salads we ordered (sunomono and seaweed) were laughingly small, but delicious. Not sure we will be back to this spot. This is an update to my previous review: the chef/owner (Josh Brown) of Cloud Sushi promptly responded to my review. He went to great lengths to address my concerns, provided a refund for an item not delivered and sent photos of signage which they hope will correct the problems we experienced. As I mentioned in my initial review, the quality of their products is OUTSTANDING!!!!! I can't express how impressed I am by the care and concern Josh has gone to satisfy my concerns. Accordingly, I am changing my rating to "5 stars" and highly recommend y'all give this joint a try. Best of luck to Josh and his crew moving forward. Haven't been in Truckee on Wednesdays for awhile. Since this place is only open on Wednesday, I had to wait to have the best sushi around. I went on-line about 11:00 AM, started the order process. Now, I usually order the Sashimi box. I couldn't remember the name of it lol. So I looked at my old order to see the name. I Arrived 45 minutes late as the snow was getting heavy and lots of slow traffic. I was Greeted quite warmly. So convenient to order online and just walk up to the window and get your order. Miso Soup: I have to say that I do you love the Moriawase Sashimi Selection box, however, the star of the show was the miso soup. My only real experience with miso soup is the 'all you can eat' shops in Reno. If you have read any of my sushi reviews, having good miso soup is like a crapshoot. You never know what you're going to get. Sometimes watery with almost no flavor, sometimes so salty you could barely drink it. Every 10 or 15 bowls you may get lucky and get the perfect soup. This was not the case today. Here, the Miso soup is made with with leeks and brown butter maitake mushrooms. Perfection is the only way to describe it. It had an amazing Umami after glow that kept me sipping until all that was left was the maitake mushrooms. And those were just delicious. It's sad when you have an hour drive to get home and halfway home you realized that you did not get enough miso soup lol. Well I am sure that will not happen again. Alcohol: They have a few traditional/premium Japanese beers and sake. I do love the setting also, being right next to the tracks. I would love to come back sometime when I have time and sit outside and enjoy some of the alcohol with my sushi. Unfortunately I'm not sure they are going to be there into the summer as I know they will be relocating. Not sure exactly when. Meh. Had such high hopes for this place. I ordered the: Small mixed sashimi: sashimi was tasty and without gristle. But, it came in a small square paper take out box and felt like the very small pieces of fish were jammed in sitting amongst a bed of daikon. I don't particularly care to have to pick the daikon off every piece of sashimi before eating it. Daikon is an edible garnish, but shouldn't be sticking to the fish - the fish just seemed tossed in the box. CA Roll: rice is everything in maki-type rolls. It seemed stale. It was tasteless and hard, kinda dry - like it was sitting around in the open air for a couple of hours. Will I be back? Doubt it. Sushi is an 'experience dining' and eating it out of paper cartons is not my idea of a pleasant experience - especially when everything is jammed in a small little box. Perhaps a slightly bigger box where you can present the sashimi better? A longer rectangular box perhaps? *** Update from reply below *** Ok, discount the small paper container. That seems to be the rebuttal focus. I will say, this is the first time I've had to pick off slivers of daikon from my sashimi before eating it. It was a sloppy presentation. Now, about the food quality. Sashimi as mentioned was good albeit tiny slivers - like half the size (each cut) of what one would usually get. Rice. Sorry, it was dry like it was sitting out uncovered for some time (not enough water or vinegar?). It was missing something. And, it was tasteless. As I'm sure you know, it's all about the rice, in rolls. Not being anything but honest to my palette and experience from several maki-type of rolls from SF, LA and all throughout Japan and beyond. Your response seemed a bit snarky. I don't sense you take constructive critique well. When you hear the silence, it'll be too late - at least I'm taking the time to give a thoughtful review, but you keep doing you. Also, to knock a competitor isn't very professional. But, at least their (Americanized) "sushi" rolls, the rice has a little more 'life' in it, but sadly too, still doesn't stack up to places I've been to before. Perhaps, the local palette (for certain sushi fair) is, well, limited and I get that. My intent in this review wasn't malicious, but rather my honest opinion based on past experience around the world - nothing more. We're regulars, stopping in a few times a month, and the consistency is what keeps us coming back - the fish is always fresh, the food is always on point, and for a mountain town, finding sushi this good is a real treat!
