Pretty good ramen shop. I usually don't like ramen because of how heavy and creamy it can be, but the Amber ramen here was perfect for me. Toasty noodles, flavorful soup, and portioned just right. The poke bowl was just OK, and they forgot to put eggs in two out of three of our bowls. However, they were quick to remedy when asked so appreciated that. Service is just alright too. Had early dinner after skiing and the delicious broth def helped warm us up. Parking was easy, as it was about 4:40 pm and the shared lot was not full. The restaurant was not busy when we walked in (about 2-3 tables) but it got busier afterwards. Due to the restaurant not being super busy, they only had one employee waiting on us and the initial wait for our food was about 15-20 minutes. Later on, it appeared more staff came in and additional ordered items appeared faster. Items ordered: Green tea- great nutty flavor and perfect for fellow green tea lovers! Free refills Spicy cucumber - they used Persian cucumbers and this was a small dish. Taste was fine but I prefer the Northern Chinese style spicy cucumber over this one (if you compare these two dishes) Garnet Ramen - Good dish and delicious broth! Hubby enjoyed this. Pearl Ramen - I really enjoyed the clear broth and subtle but good mix of flavors. I preferred these noodles over the Garnet as these are thinner. Quartz Ramen - The creamy broth was my second favorite and the amount of chicken, fried onions, and broccolini were a nice touch. Delicious Had dinner here tonight. Service was spot on and attentive. Ordered the miso ramen spicy and it was tasty. Please see the picture, I accidentally ate one piece of the pork and some of the cabbage before taking the picture. The pork was tasty, the egg was also. The broth and noodles are very yummy. The broth has a nice flavor and just the right amount of heat. I also order chicken Karage for and appetizer and it was very yummy! My friends and I were really craving a hearty bowl of ramen especially during a chilly autumn day. We drove out to Rakkan since they also had vegan friendly options and I thought the experience was just okay. I ordered the Spicy Garnet Vegan Ramen ($19) with mushrooms, corn, bean sprouts, and topped with fried and green onions. The bowl of ramen was honestly just fine. It was not piping hot as I was hoping and the lack of protein made me feel this was too pricy for the food. Prior to our food arriving, it took us nearly 15 minutes before anyone came by with menus and another 20 or so before the food came out. They said they were pretty backed up (which is understandable), but wished they had told us before we sat down. We also came around 14:00 so it wasn't even a large lunch-time rush anymore. Rakkan is a chain from Tokyo with locations in the states and even one in Barcelona. I tried it out before in their Folsom location, and was a bit disappointed by the ramen. So instead of ordering ramen, I went with the sushi flight this time. I didn't have high hopes for it, but was hoping to be proven wrong. We came in to dine as a group of 5 on a Friday night after a day on the mountains. We waited around 10 minutes for a regular table when we came in right before 6pm. We ordered 2 large Karaage, but when they brought our appetizers, they only brought 1. I had to check in with our server and I believe they forgot our order. My boyfriend got the garnet, and it was pretty flavorful (4/5). I got the quartz and it was REALLY bland (1/5). It was by no means creamy and even with chili oil, the broth was still VERY LIGHT. I don't like to leave bad reviews but... The spicy curry ramen was super bland. It felt like eating plan booked noodles in water, except a bit spicy. I don't know if they forgot to add salt? But the curry taste is pretty faint as well. I could finally stomach it after adding some chili oil and the lemon and soy sauce doing sauce for the gyoza. The broccoli in the ramen was good. The bell pepper looks cool all charred but just tasted all right. The chicken is good, but I'm not sure about the egg. the yolk is firmer from soy marinated eggs I'm used to. My friends didn't have the same issue with their ramen so maybe it's just the special. I also really appreciated that there wasn't any plastic -- the bowl was ceramic, the chopsticks were wooden, the spoon was metal. This place appears to be reasonably priced. Considering the area, I expected to be at least $25 a bowl. I had the Quartz. It was very good. But seems they charge extra if you want it more spicy!!! That I don't agree with!! It's the same soup base. The same meat and noodles. To charge an extra $1 to make it even more spicy is BS!! Lucky for me, i wanted it mild. So reg and mild were the same price. It was tasty but I couldn't spend $20 all the time on a bowl of noodles and still be hungry at the end. As for the service, it was good when we dealt with the older Caucasian lady. Initially, we put our order in with the young Asian girl. We were still deciding when she wanted to take our order. I can sense her rude expression. I can feel her rolling her eyes inside as if we were bothering her!! We were hoping the older lady would take our order but the young girl came back. Total RBF!!! Or maybe she has no personality or customer service experience, or maybe daddy made her go get a job instead of being on her phone all day! We were planning a snowboarding trip to Northstar California Resort, so we did a little research on where to have lunch on the first day after arriving. We decided to try Rakkan Ramen because they offer chicken options for ramen, and we don't eat pork. The ramen was actually very delicious and exceeded our expectations. The restaurant itself is beautiful and clean, with plenty of parking available, which makes it very convenient. Another nice bonus is that they also have local beer available, which pairs great with ramen after a long drive. Overall, it was a great first meal before heading up to the mountain. We really liked the Redondo Beach location, so when we stayed near Northstar we decided to try the Truckee location too. Unfortunately, this experience was disappointing. The service was not very nice or attentive. We ordered pork buns and ramen, but the food did not taste the same as the Redondo location. The bowl arrived with a soft boiled egg by mistake and although I was told it was remade I highly doubt it based on the temperature of the ramen when it finally came back. Overall the creamy broth was pretty good and came with a fair amount of toppings. The tofu is unfortunately unseasoned and soft. It would taste better if it was at least crispy. The place was filled with a lot of Californians (my assumption), so I figured it must be good since they have a lot of good restaurants to compare. This is definitely a good ramen place to stop at, and it probably gets even more crowded during ski season. The server was helpful and told us the popular dishes.
