    Spicy Garnet Vegan Ramen
    Andy N.

My friends and I were really craving a hearty bowl of ramen especially during a chilly autumn day. We drove out to Rakkan since they also had vegan friendly options and I thought the experience was just okay. I ordered the Spicy Garnet Vegan Ramen ($19) with mushrooms, corn, bean sprouts, and topped with fried and green onions. The bowl of ramen was honestly just fine. It was not piping hot as I was hoping and the lack of protein made me feel this was too pricy for the food. Prior to our food arriving, it took us nearly 15 minutes before anyone came by with menus and another 20 or so before the food came out. They said they were pretty backed up (which is understandable), but wished they had told us before we sat down. We also came around 14:00 so it wasn't even a large lunch-time rush anymore. Needless to say, this was probably a one-time experience for me.

Rakkan is a chain from Tokyo with locations in the states and even one in Barcelona. I tried it out before in their Folsom location, and was a bit disappointed by the ramen. So instead of ordering ramen, I went with the sushi flight this time. I didn't have high hopes for it, but was hoping to be proven wrong. There were 6 pieces including salmon, aburi salmon, aburi hotate, and aburi shrimp. When it was brought out, I can already see that I made a bad call. The rice under the fish was loose and not neat. The scallop (hotate) was the only one I enjoyed.

I really like that they will give you lettuce in your bowl if you don't want rice. The service was sufficient. They could've checked to see if you liked the meal. The inside was bright and clean. The tables were a nice distance away from each other so you don't have to hear the conversation at the next table.

Good service. Nice restaurant. Food is just okay. - Garnet spicy ramen was decent but the ramen egg was too salty. - Pork bowl wasn't good. Just salty and that's it. There's no flavor really. And there's barely any meat for $20. Definitely not worth it and I don't recommend getting this

We came in to dine as a group of 5 on a Friday night after a day on the mountains. We waited around 10 minutes for a regular table when we came in right before 6pm. We ordered 2 large Karaage, but when they brought our appetizers, they only brought 1. I had to check in with our server and I believe they forgot our order. My boyfriend got the garnet, and it was pretty flavorful (4/5). I got the quartz and it was REALLY bland (1/5). It was by no means creamy and even with chili oil, the broth was still VERY LIGHT. The broth almost tastes like the water after you boil the dumplings. The fried broccolini in the quartz was amazing though. The egg that came with my noddle was so salty. On the other hand, I really liked the karaage. I am not sure if I was just hungry but I have to agree with other comments that the karaage was the best out of everything we've ordered.

I don't like to leave bad reviews but... The spicy curry ramen was super bland. It felt like eating plan booked noodles in water, except a bit spicy. I don't know if they forgot to add salt? But the curry taste is pretty faint as well. I could finally stomach it after adding some chili oil and the lemon and soy sauce doing sauce for the gyoza. The broccoli in the ramen was good. The bell pepper looks cool all charred but just tasted all right. The chicken is good, but I'm not sure about the egg. the yolk is firmer from soy marinated eggs I'm used to. My friends didn't have the same issue with their ramen so maybe it's just the special. I do appreciate that they have creative takes on ramen but maybe if you're don't monthly specials, do them justice? The gyoza is pretty good, the pork filling was flavorful. The decor is all right, nothing to write home about. There was a 40 minute wait when we arrived and service is meh.

TL DR: many vegan/vegetarian options, amazing ramen option Friendly service. I suspect when the restaurant is busy service could be a little slow, but I didn't mind the wait. Restaurant is clean with options for small tables and larger groups. Craving ramen on a cold evening, I drove 45 minutes to try this wonderful establishment and it was so worth it! The spicy cucumbers were refreshing with just the right amount of kick. A great appetizer to share! 5/5 The amber ramen has a great flavorful broth, not too salt and just the right amount of umami. The noodles were delightful. The egg was a little overcooked but I'm really being picky here. Overall the ramen is 4.25/5 easily one of the best ramen places around the area! Price is competitive.

Not enough broth, and just lukewarm.

I took friends and family here for a weekday lunch. We all love ramen (who wouldn't?) but we all are biased with Japanese and San Francisco ramens. Wanted to see this place with such high scores on Yelp would meet our expectations. The best thing we had here was Chicken karaage. Hot, crispy outside, tender and juicy inside. Well seasoned, but not too much. It was excellent. But ramen? A bit disappointed. My biggest complaint is the temperature. Ramen needs to be hot. It was lukewarm, and the noodles were undercooked. The boiled egg was seasoned (and cold inside!), but I prefer plain boiled egg. We all had different flavor ramens, but everyone agreed. Wasn't hot enough, and noodles were meh. It wasn't crowded, and the service was nice. Sadly our quest for good ramen continues...

We were excited to get warm bowls of ramen after a morning of playing in the snow with our little one. We already started to see seats filling up when we arrived at noon on a Sunday and worried we would have to wait but we got seated right away in a booth. I appreciate the kids' menu but my kiddo still opted to just order chicken karaage and fries even they have kids' sized ramen bowls. Unfortunately, once we were seated, the place got pretty busy and the waiter took orders from two different tables that were seated AFTER us which was a bummer. We really had to flag someone down before we got noticed and take our order. Then we waited maybe 30-40 minutes to get our order. Thankfully my kid's order came out really quickly because nobody wants to try to entertain a hangry child, but I was kinda disappointed that the side dish from the kids' menu was only two pieces of chicken. He devoured it all before we even got our bowls of ramen. Honestly the actual ramen is DELICIOUS! I got the quartz (which I assume is a tonkatsu) and my husband got a spicy miso. But the slow service and getting our orders taken after tables who were seated after us was a bit of a let down. I even noticed when those tables' orders came out, only one person's bowl came out at a table of two and the second person's order didn't come out until after the first person was long done with their bowl. All in all, this is more like a 3.5 stars because the food was good, but the wait was a disappointment.

We happened to go to this place during our recent visit to Tahoe. This place is a gem. Located near the airport, this place is big lots of seating. It's a very nice restaurant with attentive hosts and good food. Lot of us were vegetarians and they had so many vegan options. We got couple of Garnet and Quartz ramen. Their chilli sauce is sooo good with the ramen. We tried the gyoza too and it was really good. Few got karrage chicken and the loved it with the sauce it came with. The rice bowls were very flavorful too. Will definitely add it to the Tahoe restaurants to go to when I visit Tahoe next.

Food: 5/5 Service: 5/5 Ambiance: 5/5 I honestly don't know why this place is rated only 3.8 stars, I loved it! We ordered: - takoyaki: cute plating with their own wooden pick already prepared, the octopus inside was tender and perfect texture (I've had so many where it's too chewy or overcooked), great flavor, sauce was drizzled on top and not drenching it - garnet ramen: this one is a miso soup base, I definitely tasted the miso and overall the soup was really flavorful - quartz ramen: this one is a creamy soup base, this one was amazing so flavorful and so good after snowboarding all day! The server said there's no dairy in it either. Both me and my boyfriend liked this broth better but I think that's just at the moment we were craving something heartier. The broth didn't turn gritty at the end either. The thick noodles were yummy, the chicken it came with was decent, and the half egg after soaking it in the soup for a bit was at the perfect texture and warmth, just a bit gooey and not too hot, just salty enough too The bowl was smaller than some of the ramen bowls I've had and probably less noodles but personally I never finish those, so this was the perfect bowl size for me. I also really appreciated that there wasn't any plastic -- the bowl was ceramic, the chopsticks were wooden, the spoon was metal. Tbh this is a better ramen place than some of the ramen places in the south bay, so idk what everyone else is on about. The menu design is cute too and I love that you can adjust spice level or make it vegan for almost all of the ramen options. I highly recommend stopping by here on your way to or back from Tahoe!

    Bao and aburi salmon

Completely ready when I came for pickup. Surprised with the small portions. I should have gotten ramen like everyone else, but thought the appetizers would be more than enough. I got the four salmon aburi and a pork bao for $24. Kind of pricey for such a meager amount of food. Fish was thinner than expected and I thought the bao would have come in a pair, especially because online it says "steamed buns" and "pork baos" in the description which insinuates plural. Anyway, something to note! My friends got the ramens and enjoyed it.

The food here is good. Lots of flavor. However we did have to wait over an hour to be seated. We want on a Saturday night and that's our fault. I think the food is good and I would come back on a week night but I don't think I would wait that long again.

Clean and comfortable, with a lot of eclectic and funny signs throughout. Feels more like a quick meal spot than somewhere you'd stay a while. Service was good. Everyone was friendly and things ran smoothly. We had the tuna summer roll, fried gyoza, shoyu ramen, and tonkatsu ramen. The summer roll was fresh but pretty standard. The gyoza had a nice crisp, but the filling was just okay. The shoyu ramen was light but a little flat, and the tonkatsu ramen was richer but didn't really stand out. Prices felt a bit high for the quality, but that's pretty typical for Tahoe and tourist areas. Overall, it's a convenient option with good service.

I am a business woman so I show lots of patience especially when there was a new server definitely doing her best. We were seated off to a corner again no worries gave some privacy. Food delicious loved the ramen husband and I tried two different ones and we both very much enjoyed them. I loved the cucumber salad surprisingly my husband did too usually he doesn't like that sort of thing like vinegar cucumber etc but he definitely appreciated this one sweet and tangy. Tried two rolls Togo the mango one my husband was very hesitant due to past experience but family enjoyed including my husband. Husband and I both go Thai tea Boba and that was the best way to end the night. Definitely recommend, they also gave us complementary mochi ice cream and edamame due to the mix up and wait which we appreciated.
