EXQUISITE FOOD WITH A VIEW This is one of the few restaurants in Tahoe City I hadn't been to, so my sister made reservations for my birthday. Since we arrived fifteen minutes early, the hostess sent us upstairs to the rooftop bar to wait. The view was gorgeous, and we perused the menu. Our hostess returned at the exact time of our reservation and escorted us downstairs to our window table where there was a cute Happy Birthday sign, along with a lake view. So many tempting items were on the menu! We started with PNW Oysters ($4 each). Since we were skeptical because it was still August, we only ordered 4. What a mistake! I could easily have eaten more of these fantastic and fresh ocean delicacies. Next we had the Gyoza Dumplings ($18) - 6 Chicken and Vegetable flavorful pastries with a creamy ginger dip. My sister was still craving the Ahi Poke Cones ($14), which I had originally vetoed, so I succumbed to requesting them at the last minute. Fortunately, our helpful server could accommodate this sudden change. Like everything we selected, these light and crispy cones were beautifully plated. We both opted for the same entree - Grilled Filet Mignon ($59), and the chef was kind enough to make mine medium. Every tender morsel with the demi glaze was a scrumptious delight. So were the Yukon Mashed Potatoes. We were so satiated, that we took a brief look at the dessert menu and passed. That didn't stop the waiter from bringing us a pretty Dark Chocolate Mousse with a candle and a birthday greeting. Of course, we couldn't resist sharing this thoughtful treat. By the time we were done with this feast, we were so full we had to get some exercise, so we took a look at the Bacci Ball court and the fire pit below the restaurant. When we popped by the bar, we ran into people we knew and had a great time reconnecting. All in all, it was a stellar evening. We were also there last night (Greg H. & Carmen H.) and witnessed the interaction that has been described, and the claims about "terrible screaming kids" are simply not accurate. The service, staff, and overall evening were wonderful. The children were well behaved and acting exactly as you would expect at a family-friendly restaurant. Wolfdale's has always been a place where families are welcomed, and that was certainly our experience. What we did witness was the complaining party confronting and harassing the family with children, which was unnecessary, rude, and completely uncalled for. We have been coming to Wolfdale's since we were children ourselves, and it has always been one of our favorite restaurants because of its warm, welcoming atmosphere and exceptional service. Unfortunately, every now and then, there are people who seem to believe the world should cater exclusively to them. Thank you to the entire Wolfdale's team for handling the situation with professionalism, grace, and kindness while making all of your guests feel welcome. I made our reservation on Open Table and noted it was for a birthday. We were sat at a corner table with the lake view and a Happy Birthday sign was placed at the table. It was a very nice touch. Emily provided us with excellent service and explained the chef was Japanese trained which made sense given some of the inspirations on the menu. We had the house made bread rolls, ahi poke cones, the seafood chowder, halibut, and the scallops. I absolutely loved everything we tried. If I could I would give this restaurant 20 stars!!! I will back these stars with the details I have about how amazing this place was and what a great experience I had with my husband. Before we made reservations we looked at the unique menu of Asian fusion with almost French cuisine. If I'm wrong then I apologize, but fancy fancy food but delicious also. We got there when they first opened and we got an amazing seat outside with a beautiful view. The weather was not very cooperative so we did ask to sit inside and they let us pick where we wanted to sit which was nice. We ordered drinks, elevation and alpenglow. Mine was a vodka with pear vodka with a home made sweet n sour and a sugar rim, husbands was rum, pineapple juice with a coconut sorbet. Delectable!!! It tasted like a dessert. We ordered teasers, scallops, oysters and they had a soft shell crab special. The scallops came with this cream on a shell that was so amazing!!! The oysters came with goldfish and cocktail sauce and horseradish and an Asian vinegar mixture that was amazing. The soft shell crab was the tastiest soft shell crab I've ever had in my entire life!!!! The seasoning, the lightness the crispiness. The sauce that came with it was so complimentary to the crab. And everything that was meant to be hot came out piping hot. Like my mouth seriously had to do the haaah haaah sound because as soon as they make it they bring it out!!! Amazing. I was amazed by that because I have gone to so many places that I have spent a good penny on and I can never remember the food coming out so hot that I noticed. I am amazed. I ordered the paella with lobster. Once again piping hot where I had to take a moment for it to cool down a bit. Taste was very light and flavorful. Husband got the seared Alaskan halibut with basil pesto in a Thai broth. No one would think to put pesto and Thai flavors together but the combination worked so well. Fresh coconut Thai flavors with that pesto flavor. I think this restaurant will be our go to every time we go to Tahoe from now on. I cannot express enough how impressed the presentation, the flavors, and the warmth I felt from the staff. I believe the lady that said hello to us was the daughter of the owners. She was super nice. And our waiter was polite and helpful. The two bus boys were very friendly and great conversation of where they were from and they enjoyed working at this amazing restaurant and wanted to come back if they get their visas approved. So rare is it to find a family-friendly establishment with five-star food, though this could easily be a great date night destination as well. I am so glad I read the yelp reviews and chose Wolfdale's for our dinner yesterday. We had the crab, hamachi crudo, and split the halibut entree. My baby daughter adored the halibut with basil & coconut curry, and so did we! The chef even came out to say hello. Our server was knowledgeable and kind, which went for all of the staff we encountered. I got a lemon drop which was fantastic, and we couldn't end the night without their coconut and salted caramel gelato. Decadent and amazing. To make the evening even more special, we walked down to their outdoor patio after dinner, which is complete with bocce ball court and fire pit tables. My husband and I agree that this is one of the best dining experiences we have had in the Lake Tahoe area, north or south. We will definitely be back to visit this gem!! read more

We loved our dinner at Wolfdale's. Both the food and service is excellent and the ambiance is very traditional Tahoe but elevated. We ordered the ahi tuna cones and smoked trout to start, and the scallops, lamb chops, thai seafood stew and short rib for entrees. Everything was delicious. It's hard to pick a favorite, but if I went back I'd probably order the ahi tune cones, scallop or lamb again. The cocktails are excellent too. We had the Paper Plane and Blue Jay. Were a party of 9 with no reservations, got turned away the minute we walked in to neighbor restaurant, Christy's. IMMEDIATELY we left, walked into Wolfdales and they got us in, WITH a lake view. White tablecloth dining in Lake Tahoe. That's the first thing you need to know. It's quality. It's quiet. It's appropriately slow. Wolfdale's is a solid spot to catch your breath and eat tasty well-prepared dishes from New American cuisine. For the LA or SF expats, this will remind you of home. It's not a cheap Tahoe spot, so plan accordingly, but you'll eat well and be satisfied and the bill will look familiar. Our first time here for dinner on a Thursday night. Small but intimate main dining room. Our waiter was friendly and helpful and delivered our $17 cocktails quickly. I ordered the roasted tomato bisque soup and it was very tasty but could have been hotter temperature. My husband ordered the Lamb Shank and he said it was good. I ordered the Surf N Turf for close to $90. Again, my food was barely warm. The Lobster tail was small and left me wanting for more but my filet was there for the win - very tender and delicious. For dessert we ordered the ice cream. Two small scoops for $14. All in all, the food was good and the ambience was nice but it was more expensive compared to other places we've been to. read more

The food was consistent with past experiences. The ambiance and attention to customer service was HORRIBLE!!! This is marketed as an upper-scale dining experience. However they seated next to us two tables of large parties with young children under the age of 10 that were screaming while their parents enjoyed martinis at the other end of the table. The restaurant moved one table that asked to be moved. We spoke to the hostess who acknowledged several complaints from other customers and the waitstaff. When we made a comment to the parents - they replied that they thought they were at Applebees. I guess Wolfdales is now the new Applebees of Tahoe City! read more

I was very impressed with Wolfdale! My friends and I were celebrating a birthday with a large group of 11 people and the service was fantastic. We even got a free round of shots with dessert! It was the perfect setting for an elevated dinner with actual great food. Everything we ordered was impressive, and we particularly enjoyed the Asian fusion aspect of the dishes. We tried the Thai Seafood Stew, Surf & Turf, Beef Medallion, and Risotto. We also shared the Combo platter, which was excellent. Came here on a weeknight during a trip to Tahoe. We were seated immediately in a cozy area in the back, and our server was very kind and attentive. We started with sashimi and lobster tempura. The sashimi tasted fresh, and the tempura was perfectly crispy. We split the Thai seafood soup as our main. This was super flavorful and not too salty. There is a lot of seating so a large group can be accommodated but could also be a nice date spot for two (although it does get a bit loud with all the different conversations in the open room). They accept walk-ins but I would suggest making a reservation. If you have the chance to try the baked oysters when they're on special, do it! They make a great appetizer and everyone at my table loved them. The three of us also split the Tomahawk steak. It was cooked perfectly, tender and full of flavor. Along with the other appetizers ordered, it was a filling amount for us. Then one special thing I want to note: we were there for a friend's birthday. We hadn't mentioned anything about it on the reservation or to the waiter. However, he overheard us talking about it and without any prompting he came out with a special birthday dessert. Highlights: * One of the finest restaurants in North Lake Tahoe * Chef/Owner with 40 years of fine dining experience * A unique menu combining Asian and European fusion with farm to table influences * Homey, casually elegant * Bargain prices for the quality Having travelled to ski areas in Aspen, Vail, Park City, Telluride, Breckenridge and the North East and being serious foodies we were disappointed to learn that the fine dining scene in Lake Tahoe is very limited. However we were excited to fine Wolfdale's which I think will reach or surpass most serious foodie's bars. Chef/Owner Douglas Dale studied in Japan for 20 years before working with a celebrity chef in Boston and then moving here. Tahoe is lucky to have him. Although Dale's motto is "Fresh Food Simply Prepared" it is far more than that. The food is fresh but artistically presented, pleasing to the eye and served in unique china. The "simple" refers to focusing on the main ingredient and only adding as much as is necessary to enhance its flavor, in my opinion. Our visit was in early January, so I am late in my review and my apologies for any lapse in memory. We created our own "tasting" menu from 9 small plates that gave us an appreciation for Dale's talents. Much of the menu has Japanese influences from his many years of experience. We tried the Ahi Poke Cones with wasabi cream, the Hamachi Spoons with guacamole and ponzu, the Ahi and Hamachi Sashimi with Arame, Shoga Ginger and Wasabi, the Nojito I think, a Velvet Squash Soup with water chestnut, the Gem Caesar with white anchovy, the Gyoza Dumplings made with pork, vegetables and creamy ginger dip, the Smoked Trout and ended with the Limoncello Zabaglione with Raspberries, Blackberries and an added scoop of delicious coconut sorbet. Every bit of every dish was on point. And the prices were far, far below anything comparable in Colorado ski areas or any major city. I don't recall the size of the wine list, but there were about 10 wines by the glass ranging from $12-$18, along with cocktails, beers, ciders and sakes. If you are serious foodies in North Lake Tahoe, the restaurants on your Hitlist should be here, Sole Domain and Trokay, with Trokay being far more expensive but excellent. Where do I even begin?! Our server RV was amazing. We came in as a party of 8 and he was very attentive. There was never a dirty plate left on the table. The attention to detail is amazing. The food was even better. There was NOTHING seriously nothing that we ordered that didn't taste amazing. As a group of 8, there were many taste differences but everyone was satisfied. Must try this place while you're in Tahoe, little bit pricey for the portions but they taste unique and good quality seafood. Is kind an elevated Asian fusion. I actually really loved everything at this restaurant. Everything we ordered was made almost as well as I could ever imagine. The ahi poke cones were good and the truffle fries with asiago cheese were nicely made, not too greasy. Surprisingly, I absolutely loved the Thai seafood stew, which was hands down delicious and had fall apart forbidden rice in a rich, flavorful broth and seafood (wish there were more than three scallops but overall was still delicious). The dessert was a pleasant surprise. We got the coconut and berry sorbets with toasted coconut and berry sauce. I think this might've been my top 5 favorite sorbets/gelatos of all time.
