We loved our dinner at Wolfdale's. Both the food and service is excellent and the ambiance is very traditional Tahoe but elevated. We ordered the ahi tuna cones and smoked trout to start, and the scallops, lamb chops, thai seafood stew and short rib for entrees. Everything was delicious. It's hard to pick a favorite, but if I went back I'd probably order the ahi tune cones, scallop or lamb again. The cocktails are excellent too. We had the Paper Plane and Blue Jay. Our first time here for dinner on a Thursday night. Small but intimate main dining room. Our waiter was friendly and helpful and delivered our $17 cocktails quickly. I ordered the roasted tomato bisque soup and it was very tasty but could have been hotter temperature. My husband ordered the Lamb Shank and he said it was good. I ordered the Surf N Turf for close to $90. Again, my food was barely warm. The Lobster tail was small and left me wanting for more but my filet was there for the win - very tender and delicious. For dessert we ordered the ice cream. Two small scoops for $14. All in all, the food was good and the ambience was nice but it was more expensive compared to other places we've been to. read more

I was very impressed with Wolfdale! My friends and I were celebrating a birthday with a large group of 11 people and the service was fantastic. We even got a free round of shots with dessert! There is a lot of seating so a large group can be accommodated but could also be a nice date spot for two (although it does get a bit loud with all the different conversations in the open room). They accept walk-ins but I would suggest making a reservation. If you have the chance to try the baked oysters when they're on special, do it! They make a great appetizer and everyone at my table loved them. The three of us also split the Tomahawk steak. It was cooked perfectly, tender and full of flavor. Along with the other appetizers ordered, it was a filling amount for us. Then one special thing I want to note: we were there for a friend's birthday. We hadn't mentioned anything about it on the reservation or to the waiter. However, he overheard us talking about it and without any prompting he came out with a special birthday dessert. Highlights: * One of the finest restaurants in North Lake Tahoe * Chef/Owner with 40 years of fine dining experience * A unique menu combining Asian and European fusion with farm to table influences * Homey, casually elegant * Bargain prices for the quality Having travelled to ski areas in Aspen, Vail, Park City, Telluride, Breckenridge and the North East and being serious foodies we were disappointed to learn that the fine dining scene in Lake Tahoe is very limited. However we were excited to fine Wolfdale's which I think will reach or surpass most serious foodie's bars. Chef/Owner Douglas Dale studied in Japan for 20 years before working with a celebrity chef in Boston and then moving here. Tahoe is lucky to have him. Although Dale's motto is "Fresh Food Simply Prepared" it is far more than that. The food is fresh but artistically presented, pleasing to the eye and served in unique china. The "simple" refers to focusing on the main ingredient and only adding as much as is necessary to enhance its flavor, in my opinion. Our visit was in early January, so I am late in my review and my apologies for any lapse in memory. We created our own "tasting" menu from 9 small plates that gave us an appreciation for Dale's talents. Much of the menu has Japanese influences from his many years of experience. We tried the Ahi Poke Cones with wasabi cream, the Hamachi Spoons with guacamole and ponzu, the Ahi and Hamachi Sashimi with Arame, Shoga Ginger and Wasabi, the Nojito I think, a Velvet Squash Soup with water chestnut, the Gem Caesar with white anchovy, the Gyoza Dumplings made with pork, vegetables and creamy ginger dip, the Smoked Trout and ended with the Limoncello Zabaglione with Raspberries, Blackberries and an added scoop of delicious coconut sorbet. Every bit of every dish was on point. And the prices were far, far below anything comparable in Colorado ski areas or any major city. I don't recall the size of the wine list, but there were about 10 wines by the glass ranging from $12-$18, along with cocktails, beers, ciders and sakes. If you are serious foodies in North Lake Tahoe, the restaurants on your Hitlist should be here, Sole Domain and Trokay, with Trokay being far more expensive but excellent. I actually really loved everything at this restaurant. Everything we ordered was made almost as well as I could ever imagine. The ahi poke cones were good and the truffle fries with asiago cheese were nicely made, not too greasy. Surprisingly, I absolutely loved the Thai seafood stew, which was hands down delicious and had fall apart forbidden rice in a rich, flavorful broth and seafood (wish there were more than three scallops but overall was still delicious). The dessert was a pleasant surprise. We got the coconut and berry sorbets with toasted coconut and berry sauce. I think this might've been my top 5 favorite sorbets/gelatos of all time. If you want a fancy restaurant with decent prices (for a fancy place), Wolfdales is the place for you! Hamachi spoons appetizer - They had a little bit of avocado with ponzu sauce. Tasty, but not my favorite of the foods. Scallops with polenta, bacon, and edamame - if you love scallops, you'll love this dish. The scallops were cooked perfectly. The bacon was crispy, and the polenta went well with the dish. I've never had polenta before, so I wasn't sure what to expect, but I ended up really liking it! It didn't look like much, but I was pretty satisfied at the end of our meal. S'mores brownie - I loved it! The marshmallow was light and the brownie was a rich, dark chocolate. Drinks: Blue J - everyone liked this drink. It came with frozen grapes which went well with the drink. Not a super strong alcohol flavor. Elevation - I think that's what it was called? It was similar to a strong lemon drop. Everyone said it was too strong for them. If you sit in the back outdoor area, the views of the lake are beautiful!!! My office hosted a dinner here during a retreat in Tahoe earlier this year. Loved the location and the ambience. Got to try a couple of their drinks and wines. For dinner , we were served some asparagus and vegan arancini balls for the table and each person could choose a salad / soup , entree and dessert . I got the Arugula salad without the cheese, a vegan entree which was not on the menu and vegan sorbet not on the menu again. Loved how they took care of all dietary preferences. I just had/ am currently having the most unacceptable restaurant experience of my life. We ordered the surf and turf with a rare filet mignon and were given a medium well filet. We sent the dish back and instead of refiring the whole dish, they offered to just bring us the filet back cooked correctly. Unfortunately when we tried to enjoy the lobster tail, there was a long gnarly hair throughout it. Bob (5"8, early 50s) came over and gave us the most condescending and rude explanation of events ever. He presented the check before we were done eating, threatened to call the police on us because of our complaints and antagonized us relentlessly. I guess if you live in the mountains and are used to bar food this might seem like an amazing upgrade but do not walk into this restaurant expecting high quality food or unique flavors as their slogan implies. We started with oysters and the salmon spoons. Paying $25 for a half dozen oysters is expected at a nice restaurant, but a platter of goldfish crackers served along side said oysters is not... the salmon spoons were just okay and nothing I'd consider ordering again. Unfortunately the same "unique flavors" appear in every dish. 3 out of the 4 dishes we ordered all shared the same cucumber kimchi, making each dish taste the same. The flavors, quality, and proportions were just not up to par with the price point. Do yourself a favor and just enjoy the bar food scene in Tahoe.
