The Clover Food Lab is located inside the Science Student Center, close to Harvard Law School and the Old Yard. You don't need a student ID to get inside. After entering, keep walking, and you'll see the Food Lab on your right. I walked up to the counter and looked at the menu. They serve vegetarian meals. I got the chickpea platter and rosemary fries, the latter of which was highly recommended. Service was quick, and the food was delicious, as it is at any other Clover Food Lab. The only downside is that the dining area is not kept up well, but I can't blame the staff for that. When the building is open to anyone, you invite all kinds of characters, who may not feel obligated to clean up after themselves. Otherwise, great food and service. Interesting layout in that their sandwich menu is on the opposite side of the seating area from the cafe menu. Super fast service - I ordered rosemary fries ($5.25) and got my order within 2 minutes! Sadly, by the time I sat down, the fries had cooled down. The seating area is huge with lots of natural lighting, but it might be difficult to find a spot to sit. The short benchlike tables along the window are next to wall outlets. I wouldn't say Clover is the most student budget friendly restaurant. Given that this is a chain outpost in an academic building in the middle of Harvard's campus, this place is better than it has any right to be. The Tunisian breakfast bowl was the best shakshuka I've had in ages, with the egg cooked perfectly and a pleasant level of fresh spices. Nice spot for a quick pastry or coffee. Their "larger" entrees like sandwiches and plates are good, but not very filling. To me the highlight is the coffee--they have several options of select beans at a comparatively low price, and I find them quite good. Service is quick, and the ability to order through the app makes it even quicker. Note that this location is inside a Harvard building--the seating available is for eating but also studying or socializing between classes. I always really want to like this place, because then I could come all the time, since I have a lot of classes in the building. But the service is painfully slow, and the food really isn't that great. The fries are made fresh to order, but maybe because it's too fresh out of the fryer they're always soggy and dripping in oil. The food is also not at all FODMAP friendly; there's garlic, onions, soy, legumes in everything. Their coffee bar, however, has very decent coffee. They have beans from George Howell, Barismo, and other specialty coffee roasters. Sometimes they have a pot of brewed coffee that's ready to go, but most of the time you're forced to wait for a pourover, which is nice and all, but a little annoying when you're trying to rush to class. Clover's Brussel Sprout sandwich is enough to guarantee a 5* from me. Their other sandwiches are tasty, unique, and in general reliable, but the Brussel sprout sandwich is one of the greatest things I've ever eaten, possibly the greatest. That said, it's only available for a few weeks in the fall, so here are my other thoughts on clover: The good: - Fast, reliable, and not particularly unhealthy- though I've been known to consume an entire order of the rosemary fries - The chickpea fritter sandwich is vegan, and always there for me - They use local produce and are all about sustainability - Their employers are all super nice, and all the clovers have a nice atmosphere The meh: - This place is kind of underwhelming, if not disappointing, in terms of their vegan options (despite being a vegetarian restaurant). Very few of their seasonal sandwiches are vegan, and even fewer can be made vegan (so many buttermilk batters and dairy sauces) - Even with the Brussel sprout sandwich I have to order it without cheese and swap the sauce for vegan mayo. Worth it? Without a doubt. Definitely check our clover if you haven't yet. And if it's autumn and you see the Brussel sprout sandwich on the menu, don't even consider anything else! read more

It's been years since I had Clover from one of their food trucks (that egg+eggplant sandwich left quite an impression!) and was excited to run across this new location while visiting a friend on the Harvard campus.  This location is on the bottom floor of the Harvard Science Center and replaces the cafeteria that used to be there.   I love the fresh taste and how filling the meal is (sometimes an issue with vegetarian options) - the sandwiches are huge and my sister commented that her chickpea fritter sandwich could have served as two small meals.  I opted for the mezze platter (a sampling of 4 of their side salads + hummus.. apparently they've gone through 60+ variations/iterations of hummus).  I love how colorful both options were! Like other locations, there is a large electronic menu posted in front listing the wait time for each item and self-serve sparkling, 42F, or 64F water! There is outdoor and indoor seating options but even during summer break (albeit during peak lunchtime) it was hard to find a seat for more than 2 people. It has the aspiring hipster aesthetic you find in many coffee shops in many cities. I say "aspiring" because it isn't quite there yet. It's a little rough around the edges and doesn't quite seem to have something that sets it apart. I was underwhelmed by the rosemary fries. They were greatly improved by adding their jalapeño oil. The other good looks good but I can't vouch for it. I was surprised by the coffee. It honestly looked too watered down when I got it. It doesn't taste watered down. It's got good flavor. I like that it's pour over -kudos for that. The space is very open and seems relatively clean and the staff are pretty neutral, neither rude or overtly friendly. The service here does not seem as on par with the one in Harvard Square, but the line is also shorter. I stopped in to pick up my favorite Clover sandwich, which is their egg and eggplant sandwich. Waited several minutes for my sandwich to come out, despite their being almost no one else in line. Nevertheless, the food is the same level delicious that I expect from Clover. I took my sandwich to go because I had a bus to catch. Grabbed a tote bag from a stack at the counter, and also picked up a fork, knife, and napkins from the self-serve station. Such a good decision! So about 1-3 times a year I have an experience that's either absolutely fantastic or completely weird enough that my brain goes, "YELPPP." And then I Yelp it. And here we are. The food is good, I'll give Clover that. Overpriced, yes. But tasty. Sure, the chickpea fritter sandwich is near impossible to eat without dumping some bit of it all over yourself, but still A-OK. What's not so good is paying $8-13 dollars for a single food item to then be treated like an imposition. I've worked in retail. I know food service is thankless work. But when I ask a valid, polite question about my order (even if it's lunch hour) I don't anticipate a flippant/curt response. I get it, it's busy. But don't take it out on me! I don't need fake smiles or enthusiasm, just an acknowledgment of our shared human condition and the need to consume food. I'll be sticking to the Harvard Square location. This place is great. It's all the benefits of other nearby Clover locations, but bigger, cleaner, and with a coffee bar. This month's highlights: blood orange soda, brussel sprout salad, sweet potato salad, some type of experimental soup with chick peas, the medlars, and, of course, the beet salad. I hate beets and even I liked this salad. The only possible downside here is that the lines get a little long at peak hours. read more

For some reason, there seem to be Clovers on every other block of Cambridge, and I can't quite figure out what the appeal is. I have been here a decent number of times because it is very convenient to where I work and is quite quick for lunch. I quite like the "chickpea fritter" (falafel) sandwich, although expect it to drip all over yourself because they are strangely averse to either plates or bags. I've tried to branch out and try a couple of the other sandwiches, but I didn't like them very much. The coffee is also very expensive and very light and acidic - definitely not the place I'd recommend unless that's really your thing (and even then there are probably places that are a much better value). Overall, it works in a pinch for a quick lunch, but definitely not somewhere to go out of your way for. The food at the trucks outside is usually better. read more

Love Clover! I come here all the time. Some favorites (but which of them aren't, really?) include: BLT, African Peanut Soup, Egg and Eggplant, Japanese Sweet Potato, and Apple Cherry Muffin. You should get their app to order online in advance and avoid the crazy lines! Clover, if you're reading this, my one gripe is that you should please incorporate more vegan options. EDIT... I don't have the heart to downgrade the rating, but I think posting publicly helps with accountability. The other day, I saw a woman who I think is your manager with a hacking cough just coughing all over my and a lot of other to go orders. Please stay home and don't create a public health hazard. Now I'm paranoid every time I sneeze or feel something in my throat. Is your sick day policy so bad that she couldn't take off, or is it a personal toughness thing? Anyway, it's not acceptable. Also, your catering orders are chronically late, like 30 minutes, not a negligible amount, from this location, and I know that this same individual has been managing that. read more

Pretty impressive drip coffee that doesn't taste burnt at all. Had a dark roast that was pretty sweet and mild . Also, I tried the chickpea sandwich which was probably the beat falafel sandwich i have had in a very long time. Price at $9 bucks you definitely get what you pay for. They have the impossible meatball which I did not try because its not vegan. Which kind of pissed me off since they sort of promote that they are vegan but their menu has Vegetarian options. The whole point of the impossible burger is to be completely plant based. The only reason I am giving a 4 is because of that really dumb way to ruin the product. I do not make a habit of eating vegetarian or vegan, and I thoroughly enjoyed my meal here. The salads are tasty, the fries are crispy and full of herb goodness. Inside the college space one can't expect service like at a restaurant so they did fairly well at the service end considering the space. Clover's coffee bar puts on the appearances of caring about coffee. They have all the right gear, all the right indicators. (One clue, though, might be that they have a Nespresso steamer for steaming milk.) They host multiple roasters, have a long bar of pour over setups and gooseneck kettles. But maybe this is all for aesthetics? Goosenecks, or so I understand, are for giving you more control and let you wet the coffee grounds evenly and slowly. This feature was of no importance to my Clover barista, though, and she just violently dumped as much water as she could fit into the pour over cone. Occasionally she checked to see if the water had fallen, in which case she topped it off again. When the cup was full, and the cone still half full, she dumped the cone and all its water into the trash and served me the cup. I, of course, am no pour over expert and I have no need to elevate coffeemaking too high, so while this preparation surprised me, it did not bother me. The coffee-scented water in my cup, though did. The coffee was near tasteless. Plenty of places have bad coffee, but when a place presents like Clover does, and charges $3.50 for coffee, its customers should expect better - or at least be forewarned. I, at least, expected more of my coffee and asked another barista to trade out my cup for a cup of the batch brew. They graciously and generously did so without any questions. So + for service! The batch brew was better - not worthy of $3.51, but drinkable. read more

Stopped in for a coffee, and after being served, I couldn't find anything except cream to add. Asked for sweetener and was told "oh, we don't DO sweetener, it ruins the flavor." When I told them I was diabetic, they suggested I use honey (which is probably the stupidest suggestion in the world). No offer for suggestions, they just looked at me like I was intruding on their space. I had to ask if they were going to give me a refund for the $4 coffee I couldn't drink. (which got a pretentious "Oh"). They directed me to a manager...or who I thought was a manager, but she just ran me through the same speech (we don't DO sweetener, blah blah blah)...and then had to get someone else to get me a refund, as she couldn't grasp the idea that a coffee I couldn't drink was somehow a problem she needed to deal with. read more

A few months back I started a vegan/vegetarian diet on my doctor's recommendation and began researching nearby lunch spots with such offerings. I found Clover near my office and on a whim, I ordered the Chickpea Fritter Sandwich. Wow! The freshness of the ingredients including their homemade pita, the smell, colors, taste, texture - incredible! I have since made my way through a portion of their menu including the Blue Oyster Mushroom Sandwich (two thumbs up and loved the lemony sauce), Mayor Menino BLT (the B is made of tempeh and curbed my craving for the real thing), Rosemary French Fries (cooked to order, served hot and plenty of rosemary - delicious treat), Impossible Meatball Platter (also served as a sandwich, love their tomato sauce and the meatballs were delicious, side salads with fennel were crispy and flavorful), hibiscus ice tea (delicious but I wish there was an unsweetened version) and finally, my least favorite, the BBQ Seitan Sandwich. Maybe I ordered on an off day but the seitan was extremely chewy and had a slimy texture to it - real turn off. The take out containers and flatware are all biodegradable.
