I am surprised to find a professional roofing company that is either unaware of or indifferent to noise ordinances regarding loud exterior construction, which is prohibited after 6 pm. Clow went until after 7 pm when it was so dark they could not see what they were doing, and what sounded like a sledgehammer fell off the roof. Their safety practices are also suspect, with inadequate protection to passers-by as they chuck gutters off the roof, straight ladders propped at precarious angles and not level, and plywood boards falling onto the front porch stairs while the residents are taking children down the same stairs. I called clow in early may 2017, got a quote a week or so later. By early november (6 months) they had still not done the work. This is with me calling regularly to ask when the work would get done. By the end of november they had performed only part of the work and did a poor job. Very little communication effort on their part. This company gave me the cheapest quote in town. They are clearly not well managed and in the end i had to hire someone else to get the job done. Ive included a photo of clearly clogged and unclean gutters. This is AFTER they said they cleaned them. I would definitely not recommend using clow. read more

Representative did a VERY minimal inspection. He didn't step inside the house, check the attic, or even go on the roof. Sent me an estimate via email. Here's an idea for how their bid stacked up; I got 6 estimates for a full re-roofing and the bids I received were as follows: $13g $15g $15g $15.8g $16.5 and $26.7 (CLOW) It's pretty clear what the real cost of doing my roof is, and there's Clow at the bottom, over $10g higher for the exact same service. Also, it took around a full week to get my estimate in the email, whereas with everyone else, I had it within 24 or 48 hours. The customer service wasn't the best, the inspection was minimal/low effort, and estimate was very obviously overpriced. Simply put, they are not the right company for me. But good luck! read more

This is all pre-COVID by about a year. Clow is the worst. The guy who gave the bid was nice to work with and very capable. After that it was a drag. We waited months to get the actual work done and could not get a call back no matter how many messages I left. When we did get the work done, the roof vent installation was sloppy, the flashing was badly tied into the existing structure and the off cuts were left on the roofing membrane! To top it off I found a pair of rusty tin snips on the membrane as well which is an indicator of how thorough that final inspection was. read more

I would not recommend doing business with Clow Roofing. Initial Service: We had them hired to inspect a roof leak. Their repair person, Vern, a nice gentlemen came out and told us that we had a leak in our flashing. He caulked that leak and said no problem. Next time the it rained heavily, the leak came right back. The Problem: Upon raining, the water leaks in through the chimney box and finds it way into the attic where it enters the home and then drips on the drywall ceiling. From there, it runs down to the garage floor. So you can imagine, at this point in the process, I've got 3 separate pieces of drywall which have black mold on them. The Process: After obviously seeing that problem was not fixed, my wife called Clow Roofing and spoke to their salesperson, Doug, who told her that he himself had come out personally and already fixed this problem. He attempted to convince her there was no problem with the roof itself and she kindly explained that the roof, during rainy periods, can be heard dripping water on to the garage ceiling. His solution to this: Just call their repair person the next time it rains. There was excuses made about calking needing time to seal, that roofs can be finicky, etc etc. I find this hard to believe from a professional roofer. The Discovery of the Main Problem: We ended up contacting another roof company, who inspected both the roof and attic, something Clow failed to even try, and showed us the chimney box was warped and needed repair and possible rebuild. They were very thorough in both their evaluation and estimate. Conclusion: I think Clow's repair people are fairly knowledgeable when it comes to making fixes. However, as far as evaluating problems and looking for a comprehensive solution, I would grade them very poorly. I don't think any professional construction business should default to "You know, Roof's can be tricky" as their answer when their business is constructing and repairing roofs. Overall I think their salespeople lack accountability - their repair people simply look for one solution (Flashing / caulking) and don't evaluate anything else even after their fixes have failed. They weren't apologetic about the issues, it was always something else besides them. They didn't offer resolution, they just instructed us to wait for it to rain and call the repair person. Simply put - if you want a good experience and good company to partner with, do not choose Clow Roofing. There are many better places out there to do business with. read more

I am very satisfied with my recent experience with Clow Roofing. They replaced the roof at my rental house 18 years ago, and the recent heavy winds blew off several shingles. I phoned Clow the next morning. Jeff answered and was excellent to work with. Within a minute he found my 18 year old invoice, and assured me they would repair the damage under their workmanship warranty. I knew they'd by busy around the city, with that big wind storm. He said he could get someone out here 'tomorrow or the next day.' I said, 'but rain is expected tomorrow, and I'm concerned that could cause further problems.' Jeff said, they'd do their best. I was very happy when, later the same day, Roofer, Justin was on the job. He impressed me in two ways - that he would do an excellent job he would take pride in -- and his 'customer service skills' - answering a few questions I had very politely and professionally. A great roofer, and a great communicator! I had to leave and when I came back, I saw there was still an area that hadn't been fixed. I phoned Clow the next morning, this time talking to Doug, and again receiving excellent communication. Doug knew of the situation, 'Justin ran out of both daylight and shingles yesterday. I'll call him now to see when he'll be back. What's you cell number where I can contact you?' Sure enough, Doug got back to me promptly, telling me, 'I just spoke to Justin, and he's picked up the needed shingles from the supplier, and he'll be back to finish the job ASAP.' I've already told several of my friends and neighbors (all homeowners) of my experience, and have told them to keep Clow in mind whenever they are ready for a new roof or roof repairs. I've learned over the years that being the Big Guy in town, doesn't always translate to being the 'best.' In this case, Clow demonstrated at every opportunity - they are the best. The Estimator was very Professional and even though they were a little bit higher I felt good about the decision to go with them. Our 1924 bungalow style Laurelhurst home was due. Way over due. We got several opinions from several companies. Sadly, and in addition to a wide range estimates of price, many of their recommendations (especially on venting) contradicted each other. Doug from Clow seemed to know his business more than all of them combined. Because of this, we knew we wanted to go with him, and as an owner he had more at stake than a salesperson who might quit before the job was done. We had the original roof covered by 3 other layers, making a real mess of a tear-down process but Clow's team was both cost- and time-efficient. We were referred by family and friends to Clow and have already referred two others to them as well. The only problem we had was with scheduling. As someone who works from home and unable to do so during the new roof installation, i really needed to have dates set in stone. That in addition to their scheduling department not getting back to me was very frustrating. As I later learned, concrete dates are hard to set in this business. When I complained to Doug directly for his office not getting back to me, he asked me to contact him directly and from that point onward all was fine. I still give 5 stars for the end result being done so well and for Doug taking responsibility for his team's mishaps. Apparently, mishaps are going to happen in this and many contracting situations, but if you own up to it, apologize, and fix it, I'm all for giving top ratings. read more

We REEEELY needed a new roof, for a very long time, but my husband was seriously ill and I just couldn't have people pounding on the roof for goodness-knows how long. My husband was impressed with Dougs attention to detail and particular questions he had about our roof and appreciated that he got on our roof and checked things out personally. They were happy to work with our mornings and didn't start until after 8, which was very much appreciated. They did a great job, worked quickly and even finished ahead of schedule. Our chimney repairman recommended Clow along with two others and we chose this firm based on the professional service we received even though the bid was in the middle of the three. Doug Baker, one of the owners and an estimator, pointed out deficiencies of the old roof that the other two companies overlooked and saw to it that the job was done correctly and exactly as was outlined. My personal residence roof was damaged by a landscaping company's dump truck and Clow came out the same day to assess the damages.
