Saw the previous review and just wanted to add my $.02. I too was extremely excited when Club Pilates opened on Quaker Ridge Road - how amazingly convenient it is! I will say it took some time and more than a few classes 'trying out' the range of instructors at the Club. It's really about fit and what style instructor or coach you want, especially as you progress through the levels (a personal favorite is Brooke's Level 2 advanced mon/fri class).
For those who have not taken pilates before or been on any of the equipment, there is specifically an 'Intro' class on the schedule, which is a great opportunity to learn some of the basic moves and ask questions of the instructors.
That said, my experience has been the exact opposite of the previous review, with instructors teaching more than a class or two that I've been in 'down' a level because the students either didn't realize it was an advanced class or they weren't really ready for the class. In those instances, every instructor has done their best to help individuals (sometimes several), but anything other than a quick correction is clearly a challenge given the pace that advanced pilates or some of the classes move at. Club Pilates leaves it up to the students to sign up for appropriate classes without restrictions, so the expectation is that the instructor will teach the class to the level or form advertised, because as you duly pointed out, we're all paying a pretty penny for the experience.
I do however, fully agree the website and app are HORRIBLE at delineating levels or prerequisites for classes (among other things) and they fail to alert you if you sign up for a class you might not be ready for (how hard is it to at least color-code levels?). Also, there is not much detail on the website / app or in the Club to tell you roughly what each class entails or what levels are what, but unfortunately again, that's all handled by 'Corporate' in California.
Corporate is an whole other topic, and to say that they are bad at responding to members or customer feedback is an understatement. I've used the 'contact us' form on the mobile website several times and never heard back. I tracked down a phone number for Corporate and tried calling, but there's not even a 'customer service' choice on the main number - it's all about the franchisee. (Hello CORPORATE - are you at least looking at YELP reviews??? That 5th Son my review is missing because of YOU, not because of anything the local Club does.)
Speaking of the local New Rochelle Club, I must say that the owner has been responsive and gotten back to me on my questions or concerns, even if there was nothing she could do because they fell to 'Corporate' to address.
I do hope this review helps at least provide a different perspective to what is a great new local resource for New Rochelle. And for those of you that haven't done pilates before - give it a try. It's great exercise! Just please take the intro class first.
UPDATE 1/31/2020 - I just had a great conversation with the communications team from corporate and provided them the feedback first hand. They were quite receptive to it and I look forward to seeing the positive impact! read more
