Precision, flow, musicality, and an expectation that you move with intention. That's exactly what I look for. Blair's classes are not beginner classes. They move quickly, and that pace is a feature, not a flaw. I love it. The class assumes body awareness, coordination, and a willingness to keep up. If you're used to being talked through every micro-movement, this may not be your style. For me, it's energizing and deeply effective. For anyone new to Pilates, this studio clearly offers Foundation-level classes designed for neophytes. That's where beginners should start. Blair's classes are for students who already have a base and want to work at a higher level. I leave his classes feeling strong, focused, and challenged in the best way. Not every class is for every body, and that's a good thing. If you appreciate dance-informed Pilates, fast transitions, and an instructor who expects you to show up ready to move, Blair delivers. One last thing, because it's honestly bizarre. Some reviewers have taken pot shots at Blair's dog, a calm, friendly, well-behaved Shih Tzu who quietly exists in the studio. That says far more about the reviewer than the class. If a small, non-disruptive dog is enough to derail your workout, Pilates probably isn't the issue. Focus matters. Perspective helps. Critique the class. Don't invent villains.

It's light, bright, and offers a great view of the Upper East Side out the windows. Another pro of this studio is that it's open to practitioners of all levels. New York Yoga offers various types of yoga, including yin, slow flow, all levels vinyasa, power flow vinyasa, and advanced power flow vinyasa. There's really something for everyone. Also, the heat! It feels fantastic. This is exactly where you want to be in the cooler weather and it actually helps you acclimate to the warmer weather in the summer months. This hot yoga studio is conveniently located by the 86th subway station , right off the 4/5/6 and super close to the Q train on 86th as well. This review is for POC only…read more As I walk down memory lane of revisiting one of my favorite studios in NYC, I land at New York Yoga. Remembering the day Dana Miller aligned me forever with my Triangle Pose (Trikonasana) many years ago (I still practice her method today) and being excited to see an NYC all-time favorite, Victor Cotto, on the schedule, I decided to revisit my past for a quick refresh. However, my visit was initially denied due to perceived racism and bias. Can a Black girl/yoga teacher no longer do yoga at New York Yoga? I buzzed twice with no response as I watched previous European Americans easily enter with ease. Shocked, confused, and feeling deliberately rejected, I had to call to make sure there was a class, during which I felt like I had to ask permission to enter though a reservation had already been made. It was obvious. It is a rarity to experience blatant racism in your face in New York City, but a yoga studio? This is maybe my first. Anger then tears prior to class. But, in short, the class was graceful. This studio is wonderful for any white members in the community. For any Black yogis, please call the studio upon arrival so they can see you in the camera and mention or ask to take a class. If not, Victor is one of the best teachers in the city. Please head down to SUI Yoga in Soho to experience the charm of his flow. Moreover, the experience was so slight, maybe minor, but heavily felt. I will continue my tour of the best yoga studios in NYC again, both new and old, and report to my POC community as the new age New York Yoga customer experience has dampened my original glow, now and forever.

After my Mom died suddenly in December 2023, I stumbled into Barre dead with grief...I have been Erin's student since then. She's a true fitness teacher ( not that hogwash social media coach/influencer kind), who understands the female anatomy and biomechanics and consistently delivers excellence, which is really hard to achieve if you think about how life events may affect our performance. However, this woman invariably teaches stellar workouts that are greatly appreciated by those of us going through menopause in particular. Also personal trainers constantly run around and desperately try to sell you sth. A very cheaply operated location, and they do not know better. This young trainer left much to be desired as far as a promise to create a program for me. When I asked about nutrition, I was told to count calories. There was no attempt to include exercises I actually enjoyed, and I had a large problem after he highly recommended his physical therapist to help my injured shoulder. Unfortunately for me, this man turned out to be a serial predator of women, and his license was expired which was an issue when I tried to report him for the assault I experienced in his office. Instead of helping me with a report, my trainer gaslit me and said he was suicidal and to not go after his job. Claimed to have no idea, has referred many clients to this man. I was not going to chance having that on my conscious and stayed silent. I have not been mentally well since, and have struggled getting support. I could not understand or believe how my trainer would not go out of his way to help me. A year later he went on my personal Instagram and made a point to call me a racial slur for my apparent political views. I was floored. The lack of professionalism, respect, class, and immaturity of it all on top of my previous assault I kept quiet to "save his job" has now become to much for me. I reached out to him a couple weeks after this hoping he would be of clearer mind to explain I was not a bad person, I don't even have strong political opinions, and the gym was my safe place/necessary for my mental health, and to please make peace. He responded asking me to "stop harassing him." As he called me such a malicious name and is larger than me and knows where I live, I fear for my personal safety and am left very disillusioned and confused as I has such high expectations for such a high end brand. I will live with ptsd for the rest of my life and regret ever joining equinox and meeting that trainer.
