Large and quiet with plenty of seating. It's a much better place to wait than out in the Union Station hallway but that is about the best that can be said. The staff at the desk isn't unfriendly but seem to work at their own pace. Free WiFi but so slow and spotty as to be nearly worthless. The coffee is surprisingly good, but you have to know the secret: to dispense, push the button that shows a POT of coffee. The button with the CUP of coffee icon doesn't work. Snacks are desultory muffins wrapped in plastic, potato chips, and popcorn. A few apples that looked well past their prime. The club has a soda fountain but the OJ was empty at 11am. There are a few stacks of free newspapers here and there. Overall, better than nothing but not an impressive lounge. A more pleasant choice for waiting would be to spend a few dollars on coffee or food and sit in one of the restaurants.

Well this is my first time taking an Amtrak train. Likewise my first experience in an amtrak lounge. While not loaded with amenities, it is clean and the employees are extremely helpful since I have many questions. There is a small snack station with small bags of popcorn, cheeseits, and a nut trail mix. There is a small soda station with Pepsi, diet pepsi, ginger ale, and lemonade. There is warm water and juice in bottles. The coffee and ice were broken. The lounge area has seats nicely spread out in a modern look and 2 TVs with local news on. There are departure TVs as well. When it's time for your train, there is a big announcement and you are taken to the train. I'd come again.

    Plug looks unsafe to me.

In the 1980s I spent a lot of time in Union Station as I went to college here and would take Amtrak back home. After the renovation, it is a beautiful station and considering Biden's love of Amtrak, I thought the lounge would be beautiful. And I have to admit, the only other lounge I've been in was three weeks ago at the lounge at Moynihan Hall on NYC. They set the bar high. I have a 7 hour layover and based on my experience there, I figured no problem. Like NYC, they should have a large selection of sandwiches and salads, which were quite good by the way. Nope. All they have here are potato chips, packaged danish and muffins and a variety of drinks. I can't walk around well and after what another passenger just told me, the restaurants I've seen here, all fast food or fast casual, is outrageously expensive. So no real dinner for me. The staff seems very nice but the WiFi took several minutes before it allowed me to log on, the air conditioning alternates between the warm side of comfortable and a bit oppressive especially when you put on your mask. Within 90 seconds I have to take it off to catch my breath. Basic things like the outlets are in major disrepair.

    West gate for early boarding

Ok no free beers, buffet or anything but for some crackers/pretzels and soda/coffee; however, they have these wonderful two side doors- one heading east and one west which let's you board most of the trains ahead of time - and, if you have seen those long serpentine lines for general boarding, this privilege at Union Station is priceless. I don't like this gentrification but don't mind this little perk for the true road warriors. And yes, a cleaner restroom inside - which is also a perk if you have used the main restrooms at Union Station. Sorry, the Wifi still sucks - at least it did on this particular day. Since my train was waiting for an engine, I explored this place a bit more. They actually have two conference rooms (see pic) with speaker phones (see pic) which can hold a meeting for about 8 people! It's FCFS but you can reserve ahead. And, get this, you can invite non-members as attendees as long as the host is a member. There is a limit of 2 hours on reservations.

Very quite lounge. At first I was impressed. The mice seem to highly recommend it. See photo and uploaded video interview.

I am Amtrak's biggest fan. Seriously. I can sleep like a baby and/or get tons of work done on the train, and I love how convenient everything is on the Northeast corridor. When I got a free upgrade to First Class on Acela, I decided to actually get to Union a little (gasp!) early to check out the ClubAcela Lounge. The lounge is located between Gates D and E. It is endearing in a rundown, dated kind of way. There is free WiFi that seems to be a bit faster than the general WiFi throughout Union but, otherwise, it is nothing special. They do not allow you to bring in any outside food so thankfully (heavy, heavy sarcasm) they serve you delicious SaraLee's pastries! Also, as of March 2018, their only refreshment is very stale coffee. This is in no way comparable to a standard airline lounge so leave your expectations at the (scratched and squeaky) door. Apparently you can pay for ClubAcela access which, if you glean anything from this review, spare yourself. Instead, spend that money otherwise and head over to the Chipotle on the main floor (not the basement, they're stingy with their servings), grab yourself an infant-sized burrito, set up at a table, and await your train while engaging in people watching.

Amtrak passengers with a same-day ticket (departing) or ticket receipt (arriving) in First Class or sleeping car accommodations can access Club Acela. United Club members (such as myself) with a valid United Club card may bring in up to two guests or their spouses and children under the age of 21. Additionally, United Global First or United BusinessFirst passengers with a flight coupon or boarding pass with a segment in United Global First or United BusinessFirst can also access the club . ClubAcela provides a quiet atmosphere where passengers may wait for their trains or unwind after detraining, which is what I did today for my morning arrival and late afternoon departure within the same day. The club itself is not as nice as most other airport clubs. This club is definitely dated. Complimentary non-alcoholic beverages and snacks, such as when I arrived in the morning were Sara Lee cheese danish and mild coffee. I am a Starbucks guy, but, what the hell this coffee is for free. There is a Starbucks just outside the club if I ever needed a real caffeine fix. When I arrived on my return they offered prepackaged pretzels and Pepperidge Farm Goldfish crackers. Complimentary wireless internet access, free local phone calls, fax and photocopy service, newspapers and periodicals, live television are also provided. But today I arrived earlier than my normal 5pm return so the normal outside line to change tickets had about a 20 minute wait. Well Club Acela provides attendants to assist with reservations, ticketing, local entertainment needs and in my case a change for an earlier Northeast regional express, which costs me an additional $32. Well worth the change and no waiting on lines. ClubAcela lounges are located in the following stations: Boston, New York - Penn Station, Philadelphia - 30th Street Station and the Washington, DC - Union Station.

Clean, comfortable unassuming space amidst a sea of turbulence known as Union Station. Complimentary food, drinks and periodicals is a nice touch....even if one cannot eat food purchased elsewhere, secure baggage is available. Members must ring the doorbell to be buzzed in, but the check-in process is effortless (just flash your ticket). As an alternative, one could choose to sit just outside the club doors with the homeless. This space exceeds the "you get what you pay for" standard - that's all I needed (I don't travel Amtrak for their club facilities).

The welcoming front desk advised us to find seating in the section behind the elevators, which featured a huge fireplace, a living room-like atmosphere, and huge floor to ceiling windows looking out over the airport. On this side, there was a fridge with some fruit and yogurts, plus a drink counter with sparkling water taps, teas, and coffees. On the other side is the bar, bathrooms, more seating areas but mostly tables and chairs, and the food. So we walked back and forth from each section, but preferred that to being in the busier part. We found 4 comfortable chairs facing each other and ended up at times sitting on the rug in between playing board games. The bathrooms were pristine, and my kids loved the cherry blossom display next to the door. The food was ample, with fixing to make sandwiches with, plus soups, and lots of other items to snack on, plus granola and nut mixes, brownies and cake bites, and a coke machine that had so many options! Plus, the handmade guacamole station- the guacamole was delicious and my kids loved it. I wish there was a takeout box or two so I could have brought my children's leftover sandwiches on the plane with us. Thanks to everyone who made our visit so pleasant!

It's not your best spot for drinking (expensive and light pours with a limited selection), but you're here for the vibes. NOTES: -Accessibility-wise, there are two stairs that are required to get into the pool. Most of the available seating were high-top chairs; the couches and chaises were all next to the pool and in high-demand. The high-top chairs are plastic, seem a bit flimsy, and have arms. -Bar has a limited liquor selection. They can make a few basics outside of their menu, but don't expect to have your run of things. -There are towels available at the pool. I don't know if they're for hotel guests only or able to be checked out by any patrons. PROS: -Really cool urban views. If you get a high-top table, you can watch Thomas Circle and the iconic church as well as a good chunk of the area from the roof. Luckily for you, the high top chairs with that cool view also happens to be away from the pool, so they're much easier to get ahold of than the poolside chairs. -Tons and tons of pride flags. The entirety of their glass fence was decorated with pride flags for June. They were a bit unwieldy in the wind, but I was really happy to see them there. -Cute drink selection. It's definitely cocktail and wine forward with just a few beers available. Drinks are served in plastic "glass" glasses. -This place has to be amazing for events or private parties. They have a gigantic projector that can project movies/screens onto the building to watch from the pool. -Bathrooms are readily available down a simple hallway. They have multiple stalls and were really clean - though they were almost out of soap. CONS: -Depending on your view of humanity, people are either greedy or too drunk to remember to clean up after themselves here. There are lots of empty chairs (and people standing or leaving because there's no space) that have towels "saving" them for someone. Sometimes those people are just in the pool, but sometimes, it's a family of two parents and a kid taking up six chairs. It's frustrating because it leads to a rooftop pool just feeling like a lot of empty chairs with dirty towels. There are empty drink cups sitting on the sides of the pool and on most surfaces. -Multiple people standing in the pool taking FaceTime calls on speakerphone too. It's odd to be able to hear someone on the phone from across a pool. -Cocktails are poured on the light side of things. For the price, yeowch. Be aware that you're "paying" for the view and the pool. If you need a bit more booze, Stan's restaurant is a couple blocks away and has triple the booze for the same price for a starter/ender to your experience.

It's a small but quaint spot with a mix of booth and table seating, making it a nice place for a relaxed dinner with friends. As a picky eater visiting for the first time, I kept my order simple with wings and rice. The wings were the highlight of the meal--crispy, flavorful, and well-seasoned. The rice, however, was disappointing. It was dry and lacked seasoning, and I found myself wishing it had at least a little butter and salt to enhance the flavor. The mocktails were delicious and complemented the meal well. The atmosphere was warm and inviting. The music was at the perfect volume--easy to enjoy while still being able to carry on a conversation without shouting, which made for a pleasant evening with friends. Our server was attentive, friendly, and made us feel welcome throughout the meal. One small note: the ladies' restroom was clean but very small and narrow. It had a hook-and-latch style door but no place to hang a purse, which would be a nice addition. Parking on H Street is always a hit or miss, so plan accordingly if you're driving. Ratings: * Food: (3/5) * Atmosphere: (3/5) * Service: (4/5) * Dinner with Friends: (5/5) Overall, Lydia on H is a pleasant neighborhood spot with friendly service, tasty wings, and excellent mocktails. For starters, it's pretty quiet in the late afternoons, which is nice if you're just popping in for a quick drink after a long day. They light a fire at 5pm daily, so if you want to relax and stare contemplatively into the flames, just grab a high-backed chair and a highball glass, and slip into a daze. On Thursdays, there's a free wine hour from 5.30-6.30, which brings in a larger crowd that generally stays substantially later. What sets this bar apart is the quality and variety of their cocktails. Be warned, they come on strong, so if you're going to try to make it through the whole list (which I did), you should bring a friend or two to share them (which I didn't). Highlights include, in my preferential order: Penicillin+ This is A Lounge's take on an old classic, and the first drink I ordered. It's listed as being Yamazaki 12-year, Ginger, Honey, Lemon, and Ardbeg, this cocktail instead included Habiki as the base, with a Laphroaig float (welcome substitutions, for the record). The honey mellowed out the smokiness of the Laphroaig beautifully, and, overall, this was a well-balanced cocktail with several layers of complexity and flavor. Next up was a Blood & Sand, the concoction from the eponymous 1922 bullfighter film, according to the lovely Melani, who was so artfully mixing drinks behind the bar. This one's also scotch-based, with a dash of Aperol and a healthy splash of Dolin vermouth - quite tasty. I also tried the Honeycomb, which combines tequila, honey, Pernod, and lemon for a refreshing take on a margarita, less the salted rim. Lastly, there was the Yoshinori Red 100, an exclusive in-house offering celebrating the 100-year anniversary of the Cherry Blossom Festival. I had stopped writing down ingredients by this point, so you'll just have to go and try one for yourself. Sit for a while, sip for a while, and be glad you stopped in.
