Clyde's Southern Wood Fired BBQ is a take-away food truck in Renton serving up a variety of BBQ meats and sides. They certainly don't scrimp on the portions! The pulled pork sandwich was MASSIVE - more like a big heaping plate of pulled pork with a toasted bun on bottom and top. You'll need a fork (trust me). The BBQ sauce is too sweet for my taste but I appreciated the buttered/toasted bun. The meat was pretty good! Some dry/burnt bits but overall good. The texture of the mac'n'cheese is more like a baked mac. On the dry side with cheesy bits rather than a moist, cheesy stovetop mac. Service was so kind. I ordered rib tips and they were completely black (burnt). It was very unfortunate because I've been passing this location and I really wanted it to be my go to bbq spot. The sauce was great! What can I say about this joint right here. When I arrived, the fragrant smell of wood being fired and the smell of barbecue. Makes your mouth water in ways that only barbecue can satisfy. I was greeted with the warmest welcome. The cashier was patient enough to me to allow me to place my order even with me being on the phone to ensure it was an accurate order. She was kind and very polite. The food was a nice portioned plate. And she asked me if I wanted my links to be cut or to be a full one, not fully used to someone asking me that question; however I'm glad to have being asked since you never know. The links are mildly spicy. The brisket is tender and has a wonderful chew to it. The barbecue sauce is on point. The potato salad has a nice flavor of mustard. By comparison I personally prefer either or. And the mustard is a wonderful welcome since (for me) I usually get mayonnaise based "tato" salads. The baked beans are also on point too! This is the best BBQ I've tasted in the Seattle area! I ordered the brisket sandwich, fried okra, and collard greens. The sandwich was packed with brisket, and the sauce is the perfect balance of sweet, savory, and spicy. Tip: get the BBQ sauce on the side if you don't plan on eating it right away. The fried okra, so crispy on the outside, cooked through to where the inside had that creamy texture. Perfectly seasoned. The collards I could have eaten a while pot alone. No extra vinegar, hot sauce needed. It's in there! The pot liquor? Whooooooo! My only regret, I didn't get the cornbread to soak it up. I wasn't going to waste any of that liquid gold! First the good news. The okra was delicious. Now the rest of the story My order was for ribs, brisket, potato salad, okra, cornbread and hot links When I got home I did not get the potato salad or hot links. Maybe they were great, but I'll never know. The brisket was very dry, and clearly was leftover from another day. The ribs were ok, but I'm not sure they were fresh either. BEWARE!! I went to Clyde's BBQ in Renton today for the first time in almost 2 years (I don't live close by). As I was walking up to the window to order, I saw anlittle black dog come out the back door of the food truck and was standing on the deck area where the bbq smoker is. The lady that worked there was calling the other male worker to come and get his dog. Excuse me, why is there a DOG there to begin with!? To have a dog in the area where food is being prepared and cooked for customers is very unsanitary. Dog hair could be shedding in the inside of the food truck, the works could be touching the dog without washing their hands, you just don't know. But needless to say, I did not order any food from this place. Oh, and I also noticed that their food inspection rating is now "Okay" when previously it was "Excellent". Seriously disappointed with this one. Seen this place for years, it's a high traffic area with Fred Meyer on one side and McLendons on the other. I tend not to be impressed with commercial BBQ, but love a good Hot Link. The photos showed what appeared to be a traditional link. Some place do weird things like Jalapeno Cheddar and Apple Mango, but just serve me a regular hot link. Some place split them in half, grill them and do all kinds of wild-ish that ain't southern. The thought of getting a real deal smoked hot link had my jowls, expressed! Unfortunately, what I got was a room temp link that was under cooked and cool if not cold in the center. With all the smoke and heat coming off this truck, that was completely unacceptable. I will say at $3, it was a fair deal and if he invested in Hot Dog Buns and served these suckers hot, he would be printing money at $3.50 per Link. Oberto is just a few miles up the road and I think for $6, you get a link, chips and a drink, which beats most fast food options. Drove past this food truck and noticed the bbq smell. After seeing consistent customers I decided to stop by and give them a try. I was skeptical at first being the area isn't particularly know for good bbq. Needless to say I am glad I stopped. I actually ordered here twice now as I write this review. The first time I had the rib meal which I got the bbq sauce on the side, I had their two standard sides (potato salad and baked beans). All meals come with the standard side and there is a $1 upcharge to change the side. I enjoyed the ribs they were tender and moist, I honestly didn't even need bbq sauce. Both sides were good as well. My second visit I got the chicken meal and it good as well. I recommend this place if you're looking for good bbq . Lastly, the customer service was great. On my first visit they forgot to add an extra side I payed for in addition to my meal. I was unable to go back and called and left a message. My husband, two littles and I shared two plates for about $40 and even had some leftovers for lunch the next day! We chose the ribs for one plate and brisket for the other. Both came with a good portion of BBQ sauce, slice of cornbread, scoop of potato salad, & good portion of baked beans. My husband definitely liked the flavor of the ribs and the brisket was your standard from a good BBQ place. Clyde's is definitely a gem for the otherwise hard to come by legit BBQ options in the Pacific Northwest. Not sure it's my favorite to be honest but definitely decent and appreciated the value! On October 7, 2024, I ordered a pound of ribs. I believe it was 8 pieces of which I shared with my mother. I visited here a few times in the past and enjoyed the food. However, this was the first time I paid for burnt ribs. I believe the cost for a pound was $24. I didn't do it on purpose. We realized they were burnt when we were nearly back in Seattle so wasn't worth it to return them. Eating out these days is very expensive. But when the restaurant sells you their food mistakes instead of taking the loss themselves, then it's time for bad review. Anyone who gets the craving for bbq in the Seattle area likely already knows that there are very limited options available. I was pleasantly surprised to find Clyde's Southern when visiting Renton. I didn't honestly know if any bbq was going to score above 3 stars for me in Washington but Clyde's managed to barely scrape by. For real, 3.5 is more accurate but hey! I'll take it! For starters the sandwiches are a fair $10 and each sandwich busting full of smokey, tender, juicy bbq. I really don't prefer brisket to be chopped, so that was a bit off putting and I wondered why they did this. The meat is so tender, that mixed with the sauce and a soft bun, the sandwich is very 1 texture and really needs something with a crunch like a pickle. Sides are painfully overpriced at $5.50 each so I skipped on that. The bbq sauce is a real winner here. Mouth watering smokey! A bit too sweet so it may upset your stomach so be aware of that. Still the BEST PULLED PORK SANDWICH I have ever had. First time was what 7 years ago....I thought gee about 10 bucks...is that high...WELL I was STILL enjoying it the next day for lunch. It was HUGE. Totally worth it. In fact tastes so good I'd pay more. Over the years Clyde and his wife have done a fantastic job. Even had a big fire damage year or so ago...but they made it though that BIG PROJECT. MY SYSTEM / SUGGESTION is buy the Pulled Pork sandwich for NOW...then get at least a pound(if they have enough) for several meals at home. I say I share some with friends....but they have to be special friends...it is so good it is hard to give it up. I warm it up and put a pile on a salad. Gad...when I make the salad I am popping fork fulls into my mouth....you know like hot chocolate chip cookies where you are supposed to let them cool for dessert.??.? no where did this 4 cookies go? It is a ways for me to drive down Rainier from I-90 area...BUT so worth it. I'm giving this place 0 STARS!! ABSOLUTELY THE WORST customer service I ever dealt with from the person on the phone who took our order to all the staff working the food truck. We called our order in at 4:22pm and were told it would be 20 minutes. After waiting 40 minutes and hearing all numbers called that were after us to come get their order, we were told our ticket was lost (we had already paid btw) and it would be 5-10 minutes longer. From that point, we were told 15 minutes longer several times til we finally got our food at 6pm. At one point, we were told to talk to the cook that he was 72 years old and there was nothing he could do to make him speed up...that he couldn't tell him nothing. We weren't offered any type of compensation...it was all just BS and a horrible experience. Confident I won't ever be back, even if the food is amazing. I ain't got time for the BS!! read more

You can switch out a side for another option for an extra dollar each. I got beef brisket with baked beans and mac n cheese. Each plate also comes with some cornbread Once we ordered, we waited about 10 minutes for it to be ready. The baked beans, mac n cheese, and cornbread were all wonderful sides. My brisket was a little dry but very flavorful and smoky. My husband's brisket was yummier than mine. He also got the fried okra which was great!
