We were fooled by the high Yelp rating. BUYER BEWARE. TOTAL SCAM ARTISTS, hack plumbers and electricians. Make sure you scroll down to bottom of the reviews page to click on '41 other reviews that are not currently recommended'. Somehow this way their bad reviews are hidden. We hired Ricardo and Dinesh to relocate our gas and water lines and add electric to build a brand new kitchen. Plumber license 1504 belongs to a master plumber called Johnny (Johnny P&H contrac inc). CN hides this as he has terrible reviews! 1. Ricardo sold us on the idea that they have done this before and would drill holes through the center of the floor joists according to DOB code to move the lines but instead they cut 12 inches by 3 inch deep cuts on the top of structural floor joists, and several holes for electrical totally illegal and not to code and dangerous. My husband knows the building codes, and was shocked to see this so he brought in a structural engineer who said the floors are compromised and unsafe and not to let them even touch the joists any further. When my husband questioned Ricardo, he became aggressive and said drilling holes through the joists would require much more labor and materials, but that is what we had paid him a lot of money for!!! Now we are spending thousands of dollars getting it fixed. THEY HAVE NO KNOWLEDGE OF EVEN BASIC NYC BUILDING CODES. See the pics, THEY BOTCHED 10 structural joists in the living room. 2. They cut the ceiling of our downstairs neighbor, left early without informing my husband. Our neighbor was furious, and when my husband called Dinesh, he made up LIES AND EXCUSES acting like he didn't know what happened. LASTLY #3 - They illegally shut off gas meters without immediately notifying DOB & Con Edison of gas leaks which is required by law and waited 1 week to notify DOB & Con Edison because they were trying to sell the co-op board on a $91,000 "solution" to "fix" the basement and when the board asked them for more documentation and details after a walkthrough on Friday at 5:30 PM, they knew they couldn't provide legal documentation and continue the scam of the co-op so they immediately notified DOB & Con Edison only for them to come on Friday night at 8:30 PM to shut off gas for the whole building BEFORE THE SNOWSTORM. I STRONGLY ADVISE YOU TO NOT FALL FOR THEIR TACTICS AND USE SOMEONE ELSE FOR YOUR PROJECT. read more

These guys are at best handyman skill level, at worst putting lives at risk, conducting illegal not to code plumbing and electrical work. My wife and I hired them for filing NYC DOB plumbing permit, relocate kitchen plumbing and upgrade electrical in my east village co-op apartment. Big mistake, they didn't know that I have a decent level of electrical and structural engineering knowledge (studied in college) and once I saw the work, got very concerned, showed pics to my NYC registered architect that I had used last year and guess what? nothing to electrical code and terrible plumbing work not running pipes through the middle of joists as they had promised and thus compromised the structural beams (see attached email pic, redacted to protect personal info). Next, they tested my gas line, found leaks in basement, illegally turn off 2 gas meters, came up with a $91k estimate to "fix" the problem, and did not notify DOB and con-Edison for almost 1 week until they figured we are not going to give them more money. We got advice from a referenced licensed plumber and again guess what? totally illegal and dangerous acts. Now we are hiring a legitimate company to help us. I suspected neither of these guys (Ricardo or Dinesh) are properly trained, educated or licensed to handle anything more than simple handyman work that they probably learned while picking up small jobs. I spent about 30 mins this morning researching their license numbers on DOB &DCA site and was shocked to find their GC license (621125) belongs to East Enders nyc inc, electric license (02938) belongs to some Joey elec't. Most concerning fact, the plumbing license (1504) belongs to Johnny Nanhu, the master plumber of Johnny P&H contrac inc who has a DOB violation record of fine and 2 year probation!!! (see attached pic) just unbelievable how all this information is hidden behind CN coterie which is just a registered cooperation (DOS ID 5034867) with no licenses and thus no legal liability which means their contracts are worth zero and will not hold up in a court. No wonder when I asked them to fill in the DCA contract template, they suddenly called me to come up with a new 'idea' to save us money and I never received the DCA contract since the template asks for a DCA home improvement contractor license number that they obviously don't have, what a scam! Should have done my proper due diligence before hiring, just glad I did not hire them for a large scope of work and can easily supersede the permit to complete my renovation. I never post reviews but this was so egregious that I felt a responsibility to alert the community. Please be careful before hiring for them for anything...even if its a simple handyman job. read more

These guys are TOP notch. I don't know about you, but I've significantly struggled finding fair, decent (not corrupt!) contractors in New York City. I've been burned by several electricians including ones who overcharged and did not wire things to code. I had a multitude of remaining issues lingering in our apartment, from a leaking sink to a weak toilet valve to 2 dead electrical sockets. I was on the lookout for someone who could tackle a wide range of issues and am glad I found Ricardo. He came in, assessed each issue, and fixed each one. He took his time to make sure that everything was fixed as needed. The electrical work proved tricky, but he stayed as long as needed till everything was just working, even when it involved having to rewire outlets and other work that wasn't anticipated to fix the issue. This company was very responsive, but extremely pricey. Our hot water in our shower wasn't working. The contractor came by and replaced a part behind the fixture. They entered the apartment at 12:14pm, and left at 12:24pm. Less than 10 minutes of actual work - awesome. So kudos for this. I work for a property management company, we discovered CN Coterie on Yelp 2 years ago. Initially we contracted them a electrical repair on one of our property, our tenant at the time was pleased and they expressed to us that CN was punctual, professional and gave them a detail explanation of the electrical fault and solution. After our first experience with CN we then started to use them for more of our properties. They are very reliable especially when we are in need of emergency services. If CN says that they will be there in 45 minutes then they will be there in 45 minutes. Ever since working with this company we never had a issue that needed to be repaired twice. If CN come out to make a repair then that issue is fixed, we never have to worry about the same issue recurring. It's a relief to know that if we have a service request on one of our properties we all that we have to do is just send CN a email detailing the work needed and they will get it done efficiently. read more

The good news: CN is relatively responsive and will book an appointment for your project and your wallet quickly. The bad news: Completely helpless service guy couldn't figure out a routine disposal and faucet install. Ongoing leaks, improperly diagnosed fitment issues, poor quality workmanship, lousy follow up, 5 service calls, miscommunications and nothing to show for it- only guesswork, hack mechanics, and a bad attitude. Ladies and gentlemen, this is what service nightmares are made of. Costs as much as a lawyer, and you get even less for the money. CN could learn from the old saying: "Measure twice, cut once". We reached out to several lighting companies re: the installation of 8 recessed lights with a dimmer switch in my living room. Many of the companies replied, but could only do half the job - they could install the lights, but could not repair or patch the holes, meaning I would have to find a second company to do all of that. Annoying. Thankfully, I kept searching and came across Ricardo at CN Coterie. After a quick estimate, we finalized details for the entire job, and work began a few days later. It took a little longer than anticipated (2 full days of work) to install the 8 lights and wall dimmer switch, and then patch, sand and paint the holes, but the work itself was great and the price was reasonable. Very disappointed. I spent hours finding an electrician who was avail at a specific time to coincide with our internet provider for my office. CR said they would be there between 12-1 and confirmed by email. They never showed up, and when I called, I kept getting a vmail response which says "mailbox is full". So I emailed them - and the person asked where they were and they responded asking me what time they were supposed to arrive. (didn't I request the time the day before and they confirmed that it was at noon? Just scroll up and look at the original email). By 2pm still nothing, and I had to cancel my other service person who I arranged to be there at the same time. It seems like it is a one man show and no one knows what is going on. Fantastic all around!! My situation was dangerous and getting worse. My 50 gallon gas water heater set off my carbon monoxide alarms 3 times in 2 weeks. Im around today only because I made sure to replace old batteries. Beyond stressful to say the least. Ive reached out to numerous contractors with no success. The only thing they did was charge me a inspection fee, get their money, then never return any of my calls. Within minutes of placing an ad here on Yelp, the Coterie team was the first to respond. I spoke to Denish. He arrived at my home same day within 2 hours. Saw my very dangerous scenario then took action immediately by disabling the gas heater on the spot. Then came up with a plan and a solution. Two days later I had a brand new electric heater. No more exhaust or worrying about that pilot light burning without proper ventilation. I should mention I live in a duplex. Main power grid is on first level. Water heater is on second level. Holes needed to be made in walls to run power.
