Before…read moreordering IV vitamin C, a physician must order a G-6-PD RBC test to rule out genetic abnormality that would render the IV C fatal. He never apologized to our family. The office has a nice enough staff, but it is extremely poorly run. Do not expect diagnostic codes nor insurance codes as Dr. Winkler runs a "cash" practice. The family member being treated for cancer at the Winkler clinic became significantly worse under his care. Unfortunately there are very few integrative oncologists in the San Diego area (Dr. Winkler is not a trained oncologist, only someone who made the decision to specialize in cancer care.) The procedures were not adequately explained and frequently we left the office with billing for procedures that were not expected. We had an appointment with him for a consultation in conjunction with nurse treatment but were told he was too busy to see us. Subsequently we had a consultation prior to a "detox" procedure and requested that we hold off on the procedure due to a severe reaction to his previous detox treatment. His exact words were "Oh no, you can't cancel" before we regrettably acquiesced to his modified detox treatment. The subsequent treatment left the patient dizzy and at fall risk and took two days for recovery. We were left with the feeling that he was more interested in paying his office overhead than he was in the patients desires or well being. We were simply not listened to. He was supposed to order a diagnostic test but failed to do so and we had to get the test ordered by another MD. Finally, after one month and repeated inquiries to his office, he ordered the test at another location, not the one he originally said he was using. In short, we spent around $30,000 for ineffective treatment that left the patient worse off. Since leaving practice, we have found integrative care in Orange County that is far superior to what Dr. Winkler offers. We are now seeing improvements, but have been told by the current practitioners that they had to start from behind due to the errors at Dr. Winkler's office. He chose ineffective chemo agents and did not verify his choices with the widely available RGCC testing. He relies far too heavily on subjective "muscle testing" to help him determine treatment modality. In my opinion and experience there are FAR better integrative cancer practitioners, but one may have to drive a distance to find them.

IVs were the last thing on my mind and they were in no rush for me to use the credits as I did not receive any type of reminder call from them. A receptionist confirmed that I did, indeed, have a credit and that it was for an IV package. She talked to the manager and told me that, not only can they not provide me a refund, but I can come in to redeem the credit for only one IV session since their prices went up. I was upset by this because it's not like I was asking for a refund for a service I was unhappy with, but for a credit that I clearly cannot use since my move. I explained to her that I had paid cash for the promotion that didn't come with any stipulations. I didn't sign anything and the person who sold it to me didn't tell me about any rules that came along with the promotion. The receptionist danced around the best she could, explaining to me that "most people usually use the service within a year" and offered me a vitamin B shot instead, which is worth less than an IV session...I declined and asked to speak to the manager, but, of course, she told me that they were unavailable. I asked that the manager please call me back later that day to discuss this matter further and left my number. I still, to this day, have not heard back from anyone. To me, this is pretty piss poor service and unprofessional. They basically are ignoring me so that they don't have to pay me the $380 back. It's not like it's $20. This is a big chunk of money that they've held on to and collected interest on.
