WOW! AMAZING! UNBELIEVABLE! First time going to a certified rolfing therapist. Never knew about this kind of therapy other than from other people who swear by the results. I injured my knee 6 weeks ago which was swollen, very weak, stiff, and painful to walk on or bend. I started physical therapy 3x a week, which very slowly started to help, but the weakness was still there and the swelling only reduced a little. I had an MRI which showed fluid buildup around the ACL. I went to Gary Sat afternoon, explained what happen, and after a quick examination of my knee, he went to work. And let me tell you, he REALLY went to work. The amount of energy he used to work on me is simply amazing. He has what seems like laser focus as he was able to pin point EXACTLY where the issue was with my knee. He treated me for about 1 hour, and worked on multiple areas that are all connected to the root cause of my knee pain. This is not a massage by any sense of the word. It does hurt when Gary works on you but you're in complete control. You tell him how much pressure you can tolerate while he works on you and he adjusts accordingly. All I can say is his hands work MAGIC! When he was done, I could not believe it but my knee pain was GONE! I mean completely GONE! And so is the swelling! I woke up today Sun thinking ok, I bet some of the pain will be back because there's no way its all gone after only 1 session. Nope, today is the same as yesterday... NO PAIN! I had been eyeing this deal on Groupon for quite some time. I finally bought it after my friend went and raved about her experience. Tip: it books up extremely quick, so plan your visit for about 2 months out. Gary was wonderful and managed to get me in as I was visiting So Cal from Oakland. I've been having excruciating lower back pain for over a year. I can't do too much walking or sitting without hurting my spine. I went Saturday and was sore for about a day. I then drove to Vegas and did a ton of walking. It was then I realized I was able to walk without my spine feeling as if it were going to snap. This is therapeutic bodywork that is lasting and transformative. It's certainly not relaxing, not always comfortable, and sometimes downright painful (in a good way). But oh so worth it! I've had chiropractic treatment, physical therapy, swedish and deep tissue massage, the whole gamut. Each has its place, but I've found that the relief often takes several visits and/or it lasts for just a while. Rolfing on the other hand, is a realignment of the body's mechanics by releasing and lengthening connective tissue. So it frees up muscles, joints and ligaments and allows everything to function properly. Gary Mock does a great job of explaining how this all works. When you go, wear shorts and a t-shirt that allows access to put pressure directly on your skin. The treatment room IS the main office so if you arrive early for your appointment, you may need to wait in the hallway or front room. And there is no disrobing- you keep your clothes on at all times. You should also know that you may find Gary working on your extremities or other parts of your body that you may think are not related to the area that is in pain. He is very intuitive and is finding the connected spots that might be actually causing your pain!! After trying this out with a living social deal, I purchased a package and am very happy! read more

I had a mild bicep tendon injury in my shoulder that bothered me for months. I did physical therapy and acupuncture for weeks. Physical Therapy just made me feel sore from the cupping. Acupuncture I felt better for a few days before it started bothering me again. I did a session with Gary after a friend recommended him. I found Gary last year through a last minute Groupon deal I decided to try out while visiting my sister in Vista. I am sooo glad to have been introduced to Rolfing by him! I walked in hoping to just loosen up some of my stiff muscles and walked out feeling fixed and balanced for the first time in years. He took the time to work through the knots and scar tissue that had accumulated over a decade of competitive cheer and dance, and gave me hope to continue competing as a professional tandem surfer (I hold two world titles). I felt so good after a couple of sessions spent "unlocking" my hip, shoulder and neck that I signed up for aerial silks and contortion classes the very next day. Felt great for months after. I had a great experience. I am always on the hunt for someone who can do a great job! I heard about Gary through one of my friends who had a session with him in Dec. She also had a great experience. She went into the session with no specific pains and walked out feeling great. I have had some shoulder pains, along with suffering from migraines. As a massage therapist, I understand that the entire body is connected and massaging my deltoid for a hour won't fix my shoulder. There are areas around the shoulder that affects its issues. He knew so much! My shoulder feels so much better and my neck feels light. Throughout the session, he checked in with me on pressure and how I was feeling. (I hate when someone just does their thing with no care of my opinion of pressure) The room was a basic office space room. He said he was moving to a better location soon. I honestly don't really care what the room looks like- my eyes are closed during the session. Gary is very skilled and knowledgeable. I have always been a little afraid of being Rolfed after a very intense experience I had with a Rolfer in LA years ago, but I have been having a lot of hip pain so i thought I would give it a try. The work started with my feet and lower legs, and was pretty intense, but afterwards I felt like I had more of a normal gait and wasn't limping. i have gone for five sessions now and each one has addressed various issues in my body. I have been a professional dancer and then yoga teacher and there are some pretty cranky areas. I feel like he has a compassionate way of helping a client move through discomfort and into greater health. read more

Gary is super nice. Laid back. Fixed some problems I forgot I had. Would have preferred we spent more time on my neck and shoulder. I have a herniated disc in my neck which is why I was there. Went for six sessions. Worked on low back one session which was awesome. Did the shoulder and neck for one session, also awesome. Worked on my arms and hands for two sessions which was kind of strange and pointless. Legs and feet for the last two sessions, that was awesome too. Sort of frustrated we only spent one session on what I originally came there for though. Got busy with work and stopped going. Might go back when I get more time. read more

Where do I start? Is been over a year that my shoulder started hurting. No injury, just age and wear and tear. I got to the point I couldn't raise my arm over my shoulder. I Sometimes needed help just removing my shirt. Sometimes raising it or reaching behind me would bring me to a jarring curse laced halt due to the pain. I can't count how many nights I took Advil PM in the hopes of actually sleeping through the night. Pulling up the blankets, reaching up for the pillow, or just trying to sleep on my side would be enough to wake me in a pain induced wide awake frustrated start. With luck I would go to sleep just in time for the alarm to wake me. That kind of pain and lack of sleep affects everything. Work, chores, relationships... temperament. When you're awake at 3am on weekends because of pain. .. unless you've been there... it's not something you can describe. Acupuncture, a few chiropractors, countless massage types/locations, pain meds... Occasionall relief for a day or two and then on to something else. My neighbors recommended Gary. Out of desperation or just to appease my GF I went. By the time Gary finished I raised my arm over my head expecting the pain I had grown to associate with the movement. I was in disbelief. I felt a small ache, but that was it. He is amazing. It's been a week, I've slept through the nights med free and have woken up refreshed and feeling like I actually slept! Depending on what your malady is, he may need to dig in and work it out... let him work his magic and you will not regret it. I can't thank Gary enough for the relief he has brought me. I have had fibromyalgia for years and Rolfing has been a game changer for me. The muscle tightness that fibromyalgia clients experience is a constant tightness which causes overall body pain. I do yoga and Rolfing regularly. Yoga is great because it brings the oxygen into the body and gets the muscles opened up but Rolfing is the only way I can break up the tightness in my muscles. The hands on approach of Rolfing is completely different than basic massage. I like to say it's massage with a purpose when I'm explaining Rolfing to people that haven't experienced it. Rolfing structurally aligns our connective tissue in the muscles to where they should be. It's like a chiropractor for the muscles. It frees up the muscles, joints, and ligaments so everything can function properly. I am a HUGE advocate for Rolfing because of the way it has helped me. Rolfing is beneficial to anyone. I see so many people with poor posture and in pain that don't know about Rolfing that could benefit from it. One Rolfing session helps but just like anything else in life, a regular routine of integrating Rolfing into your health lifestyle is where one can truly benefit to find your consistent lifestyle balance. I was born with congenital club feet requiring multiple corrective surgeries as a child. About 5 years ago I started experiencing pain in my right ankle that progressively got to a point that I could not walk for more than an hour. I am a hospital physician and am on my feet all day. I carried ibuprofen everywhere. I had a stash in my car, purse pocket..... That is how I got through my day, limping. 5 independent orthopedic surgeons offered to fuse my ankle. Doing a fusion at age 45 years means a hip replacement at 55..... Then I heard about rolfing from a colleague and decided to give it a try. Today marks the anniversary of that experience. Gary was nice but I'm not sure if Rolfing is for me. I do believe in no pain no gain, but the pain was way too much and didn't justify the temporary minor relief I got. I have a super high pain thresh hold but this was a bit ridiculous. If you're thinking of this practice just be prepared to be in pain at a extreme level. no lies. I also had a couple of slices on my skin from his nails that I found later. It might work for some but it's just extremely painful. read more

We got Group On coupons for California Rolfing and Massage. Gary is friendly and did listen to my concerns, hurts, and pains. However, I did not care for his insisted massage spots after I told him to concentrate on the back, he decided the legs instead. Although my wife looked into what 'rolfing' was, the deep tissue specializing was not for us. I went to a chiropractor doctor and advised us that we shouldn't do rolfing massages - because of the lack of fat and muscles in our body. I called Gary after seeing his Groupon and I'm so glad I did! I tweaked my neck to where I could barely move and he gave me so much relief. Its not your typical massage with oils and what not but I got better results than any other massage I've had. Gary focuses not only on how to get rid of you pain but on where its coming from or what could be causing it and treats that area as well. I'm on the thin side and had no problem with anything as you can have him adjust the pressure to your liking. Any chiropractor that discourages this (as mentioned in another review) probably doesn't quite understand it or just wants your business and doesn't want you to go somewhere else. If you are looking for a traditional deep tissue "body" massage, this is not for you. Gary concentrated on deep tissue massage of my shoulders, arms, and hands for one hour, the last five minutes on my neck. Be prepared to lay down on your back for the length of the session. Enter through east door and he's the 2nd door on the right. Small rooms is basically a small bedroom sized treatment room. If you're early, sit in the chair out in the hall. Gary is an intuitive therapist with great knowledge. He is very aware of changes made to your body throughout each session and has you walk, stretch and see how your body feels several times in each session to work on exactly what you need. I am a Family Nurse Practitioner and recommend many of my patients to PT. However, I feel that rolfing is much more effective for many people and I wish it was covered by insurance so more people could have the best results I've had with any therapy. Rolfing has absolutely, hands down changed my life. I have been to other roofers and Gary is amazing. Do your research before you go in. This isn't about a relaxing massage - though he has someone that can do that. This is about making functional changes in your body and while its intense, it's effective. What an amazing experience - just WOW! Hanja has a magnificent presence and instantly made me feel comfortable. My neck had been bothering me for a few days before I went - I was thinking about going to the chiro but decided to try this first and I'm so glad I did. It was not painful - there were a couple of spots I let her know were tender when she worked them and she took the appropriate care to make the pressure manageable, getting me to the point where there was no discomfort at all.
