Another quality visit to Coach's. My friend and I visited around 5:00 PM on a Tuesday. I've had the sandwiches a few times and wanted to try chicken wings. Our waitress was very friendly and attentive. We had Miller Lite drafts, a dozen wings and fries. The drafts were cold, the fries were outstanding, and the wings were a little overcooked. This is probably my favorite wing spot in Pittsburgh. It's a hole in the wall for sure but the service is always great, their homemade ranch is top 3, and the vibe is extremely cozy. We went to Coach's last night for the first time to meet up for a friend's birthday. It is located in Banksville Plaza next to Kuhn's (grocery store). Because of this, there was plenty of parking and we ended up with a spot by the door - how convenient! We entered and walked around without being greeted but I didn't really expect a host/hostess with the bar atmosphere. The table we chose was completely unstable but a few napkins shoved underneath it did the trick. Our waitress stopped over pretty quickly to ask if we wanted to put in drink orders or appetizers to start. I got a Tito's and cranberry while my husband (the driver) chose ice water. My drink was good. After a bit, we decided to order food and selected the fried pierogies. There were 5 and honestly, since it was an appetizer and most people share those, I would have like to see an even number. They were absolutely delicious though so maybe I just wanted more of them to nosh. The Steelers/Bengals game was on and that made for a fun atmosphere. We went in for a kids' basketball team party, and had a blast! The atmosphere was very laid back, the waitress was incredible dealing with all of us at once, and the fiod was delicious. I had a cheeseburger and fries, burgers are cooked to order & very flavorful. Next time I need to try the Brookline burger! My wife got the Italian sub and loved it, the kids got wings and loved those too! A draft pitcher of Yuengling was a reasonable price. Met a coworker for lunch here and was pleasantly surprised. It's definitely more of a bar than restaurant setting, but still very welcoming. It has that hometown bar feel. The bartender was friendly and took care of both our drink and food orders. It seemed like he was taking care of the entire place himself, but handled it very well even when it got busier. I ordered the cheeseburger with fresh cut fries and ranch. Everything was really good! We ended up staying there for over 2 hours and didn't feel rushed or anything. Ordered via Doordash a few nights ago. I ordered the cheeseburger with garlic Parmesan fries & a garden salad with ranch dressing. Food took a bit longer to prepare than was quoted, and my Doordash driver was stuck waiting for it. It arrived packed very well, with a cutlery packet, as well as lots of ketchup packets for the fries. Everything looked so yummy. Unfortunately, I was super disappointed to find that the burger was not seasoned at all, it literally had no flavor. No salt, no seasoning. I never even notice these type of things usually, which tells you how bland it was! Same thing with the fries! Although I could visually see Parmesan cheese on them, I just tasted potatoes. There was no salt or garlic taste at all. I was shocked because everything looked exactly how it should, there was just zero flavor! The garden salad and ranch dressing were fresh and delicious! I don't think I'll order takeout from Coach's again. I'll save it for dine-in, if I'm trying to stay very local, or need a late night bite. read more

A group of eight of my friends came here recently for a late dinner. The typical bar food here is decent, and there are other options, too. I didn't even know they served brunch. I ordered old bay wings and garlic parm fries. Both were okay-- the wings could have used more seasoning, they were on the dry side, so the seasoning didn't really seem to stick. For 2 soft drinks, 2 dozen wings and 2 side orders of fries, the bill for my boyfriend and I was around $44 before tip. Your typical bar food and atmosphere. Plenty of tvs, so it's a good place to watch a game. They also have great deals on Labatt during the Penguins game. I ordered the loaded fries and was kind of disappointed. The fries were overdone and completely smothered in nacho cheese. The dish was so cheesy that I couldn't taste the bacon or even the jalapeno that were mixed in, also the fries got soggy very quickly. As a positive, the dish was quite large so it's great for sharing and is reasonably priced. Our waitress was nice and didn't pressure us to leave or order more the entire time we were there watching the Pens game. Came here on a Friday night with a group of 8 friends. We have been here a few times throughout the years and have had a good time. The bar is your average bar. Nothing amazing and nothing too bad to go on about. The place is a bit understaffed and the food is average. Drink selection has a good variety and the menu has a good variety too but I think it is probably overpriced for the quality of the food. Fries were a good appetizer and I'd get that again. We ate here yesterday not really knowing what to expect. It is a lot larger than I expected it to be. It is a sports bar so a lot of tvs were playing various sports and it was a little dark. We decided to split 12 wings and a buffalo chicken sandwich. We were most definitely both pleasantly surprised! The wings: AMAZING. I had the jalapeño honey and you could tell it was a homemade sauce. The wings were crisp but not overdone. Plenty of sauce but not drowning. My bf got the buffalo ranch and he preferred those to my flavor but, like myself, really liked them both. The buffalo ranch is a pretty basic sauce but it was great, too! The sandwich: The waitress asked if we were splitting it and offered to bring it out on two plates. We said it wasn't necessary but she did it for us. The sandwich wasn't too spicy (I like hot things, so maybe to others it would be?) and was cooked perfectly. It was served on brioche so we both were SOLD. It was reallyyy good. The fries: The sandwich came with fries. We subbed the regular fries (there were multiple options such as garlic, oil bay, etc.) for sweet potato waffle fries. They were awesome. Came with a sweet butter side which was good (think Texas Roadhouse butter) but we just used ranch and ketchup. All around really good food. They have specials every day and we'll definitely be back to try more, especially since it's right by our house. Every burger and plate that came past our table looked awesome and prices are very fair. The waitress (I don't know if she ever said her name) was so nice and polite. Miller Lite special during the game. .45 cent wings and 6.00 Yuengling pitchers 12-5 (Saturday). I had the cheesesteak with Cajun friends and it was delicious. The sandwich had quality chunks of steak with onions green peppers and mozzarella. Obvious sports and classic rock references aside, Kay and I had a grand slam of a lunch here recently. Occupying the former spot of the late, lamented Whiskey Hollow Grill, Coach's interiors are sparse, achromatic. For a sports-themed establishment on a Sunday afternoon, the ambience was rather low-key despite there being a ballgame on the telly. Our Pittsburgh Pirates were in the midst of a rally as we dined. A lively, lovely, and agile server by the name of Dani brought to us a buttery bunch of their patented Pub Pretzels for our first inning. These toasted, crispy, chewy, gorgeous billyclubs of dough and salt glistened in the light, putting stadium pretzels on the bench. A creamy and potent Yuengling beer cheese accompanied the batons, making them as worthy of fame as their menu claims them to be. Next at bat was an easily appetizing bowl of "Chef Ed's Famous She-Crab Soup." Smooth and luscious like the best chowders, it maintained a richness without smothering the natural flavors of the abundant crabmeat. A first-class, "O"-league pile of "seasoned salt fries" that were most likely battered due to their brittle properties seconded a burger called simply "The Coach." Lettuce, tomato, a magnificently moist and honeyed pulled pork, a milky/crunch-a-rific cole slaw, and an onion ring topped an ideal medium-rare patty of sultry ground chuck in a bun of Italian bread. It was the equivalent of Andrew McCutchen making a 9th inning moon shot with the bases loaded while down by 3 runs. A wedge of dense, candy-studded, salty-vs-sugary Toffee Cheesecake ended the game with an already padded lead. While I may miss the Whiskey Hollow Grill, I've found that Coach's is worth rooting for. I really like this place. It is a sports bar first and foremost. Many locals come and see Coach. I have talked to Coach a couple of times - he is a very social cat. This is a place where you can watch any Pittsburgh Sporting event, have good food, and drinks. It is usually crowded. The prices are reasonable. The vibe is really good. One of the reasons why I go back. They have weekly food specials (Thursday $3 burgers). If you are in the area, you should check it out if you are looking for a place to watch the game. Service - Excellent - whether you are at a table or at the bar - the service has been great. Price - very reasonable - Food and Drinks prices will keep me coming back if I want to watch a game and pay realistic prices (compare to a bottleshop). Food - It is okay - I would not come here to specifically dine. I would come here to meet friends share some wings and be social. Environment - The vibe is great. Used to eat here constantly about a year ago.. food was crispy and unbelievable. The last few times it's been absolute garbage. They must be under new ownership or using lesser quality foods. Just ordered delivery - the sampler platter with a side of Garlic Parm fries. After it arrived they didn't include the ranch which is a huge disappointment to begin with, then when I open the fries there's no seasoning on them whatsoever.. I continue to the mozzarella sticks only to find all four are hollow (see pict)- literally no cheese at all. As if that wasn't bad enough the quesadillas don't have any meat on them just cheese jalapeños and tomato. I used to love them Coach's but clearly something has changed.. I'll never eat there again, sit-in, or delivery after this garbage.. wish I could have tipped post-meal. Coach's is a great local hang out for my husband and I. The place is always clean. Tia is one of our favorite bartenders due to her excellent customer service and friendly attitude. The owner, John, is typically around and is always willing to chat with customers. As far as the food goes, the wings are some of the best that we have had. We typically get Cajun or old bay. The fries are really good and all of the appetizers that I've had are awesome. Definitely try the pickles or mozzarella sticks. read more

We ordered a fish sandwich with a side of "vegetables" (side options were very limited--fries, soup, and vegetables). I'll let these pictures below of what they are passing off as a side of veggies speak for themselves (this is right after popping the lid off the cup). After eating some of the "veggies" look at the oil/drippings at the bottom of the cup. The fish was adequate at best but you could get the same thing at Eat n Park down the road and have better side options.
